The Priory at Gouvix

9 Rue de l'Eglise , gouvix, 14680 France (Show map)

About

Welcome to our beautiful old priory, dating in the most part from the 17th Century. Filled with light, and set in a 2 acre orchard garden 15km south of Caen on the edge of the Suisse Normande, we offer spacious, informal b&b and delicious home cooked evening meals, using the best of the abundant local produce. We also provide 1 to 4 day cookery courses - accompany us to a local market and learn how to prepare some of the great dishes for which the area is famous.

About the innkeepers

Escaped a corporate life in medical technology some years ago. I love running the b&b for the 6 months of the year that we are open, and get as many thanks in a week as I ever got in a year working in a big company

Signature Dish

Fruits de Mer
"Signature dish" sounds a bit pretentious - this however is something we have from time to time and particularly like to eat : A selection of local seafood, bought direct that morning from the local boats / producers. Sunday is best. Making a regular appearance (although not all at once!): Tourteau (Crab), Araignée (Spider Crab), Bulots (Whelks), Bigorneaux (Winkles), Coquilles Saint-Jacques (Scallops), Petoncles (Queen scallops), Huîtres (Oysters), Crevettes (Prawns), Crevettes gris (Brown Shrimps), Coques (Cockles), Palourdes (Clams), Couteaux (Razor Clams), Encornet (Squid), Seiche (Cuttlefish), Langoustines, Moules (Mussels).
