If you decide to visit Northwestern Connecticut you could not ask for a lovelier location for a holiday or a more welcoming place to stay than the Mountain View Inn in Norfolk. We decided to call the elegant country inn homebase for an 11 day getaway to explore the southernmost portion of the Berkshires in the Litchfield Hills region of Connecticut...the arts, wineries, history and rural charm all on a country road. The innkeepers were an invaluable resource with their full knowledge of the town's history, upcoming events and the region's varied restaurant choices ...complete with spot-on driving instructions! Whether we started our day on the covered porch with a cup of coffee watching the wildlife or sat down with the inn's guests in the historic dining room, each location offered up its own particular charm. We got to start our day with a lovely choice of breakfast items. A full morning menu - parfaits, quiches, baked goods and fresh seasonal fruits - fueled our daily adventures. The grand yet homey inn was the perfect spot to recharge at the end of a very full day with its luxurious bedding, claw foot tubs and tranquil setting. I saw one room readied for its guests with a champagne bucket and red roses, and heard from another couple that they were intent on seeing the venerable Connecticut based White Flower Farm - something for everyone. The steady flow of travelers reminded me that reservations would always be necessary as this area provides so much in terms of destination. The exquisite period appointments throughout the English style country home added to the unstoppable charm of this idyllic setting and was only outdone by Dean and Jean Marie Johnson's gracious and accommodating ...but not intrusive... attention to their guests' needs. We can't wait to go back.

I've never written one of these reviews before, but I was so pleased with the Mountain View Inn that I wanted to spread the word. We were in town to attend a concert, and left by 9:30 the next morning, so our stay was brief. The room was great, the food was delicious, but best of all, the hosts were warm and unpretentious, while at the same time interesting folk to talk to.

We were blessed to stay at the Mountain View Inn this past weekend, while visiting several local waterfalls. Our hosts, Dean and Jean Marie (and we mustn't forget Miss Noelle!), were genuine and warm throughout our stay, and had many good recommendations for local area attractions. Our room, The Felix, was spectacular. We wanted to steal the plush, wonderful bed and bring it home! Overall, the stay was unparalleled, and we plan to return as soon as we are able

My bride and I spent several wonderful days courtesy of Dean and Jean Marie! We both loved the Victorian decor, and friendliness of the innkeepers. The room was immaculate, and the breakfasts (especially Dean's coffee), were superb! Even their poodle, Noelle, made us feel at home. Thanks again, for making our honeymoon special! Our stay was perfect - from the ambiance of the room to the delightful breakfast in the morning. The house is just as pictured in photos - positively beautiful - museum quality yet comfortable and inviting. We will definitely be staying there again - happy to be quests of the very gracious Dean & Jean Marie. ~ Lauren & Shem

Hidden within the lavish evergreen forest of small town quaint Norfolk lies the exquisitely beautiful Mountain View Inn. At first glance a weary traveler may inquire about the mountain view vantage point so evident in the name; however, once settled in any of the spacious and elegantly appointed rooms you will find that from every window views are simply breathtaking. Upon arrival you are greeted with a warm feeling of good-old-fashioned Southern Hospitality from the kindred spirits of the Northern Couple and owners Jean Marie and Dean Johnson and the unforgettable, absolutely adorable, and charming white poodle “Miss Noel.” Once settled in visitors can walk, jog, bike, or drive through the Old American town and revel in the regal beauty of community and family that irrevocably define the American lifestyle in all its glory. Or perhaps one fancies nightlife and opts to enjoy a performance at The Infinity Hall, which also is in walking distance. Whatever your niche may be you will get a dose of it here. Weather you yearn for inspiration for your great American novel or just need a quick excursion from the hustle and bustle of city life. This home and its surroundings will be sure to reinvigorate all your senses providing you with a wonderful breath of fresh air, vitality, and energy as you emerge in a transcendental state of requiem.

My husband and I on the spur of the moment decided to go for a mini vacation and my son recommended a beautiful B&B only an hour and half away and was sooooooo pleasantly surprise of this beautiful jewel in the heart of Norfolk, Connecticut. The rooms gorgeous, Dean and Jean the owners so very cordial and attentive. A wonderful and refreshing place so close to home. Thank you again for the great experience and as promised we will be back.

Thank You Dean for helping us out at the last minute! My husband and I arrived on a Saturday with our son and couldn't wait to check in...problem was our check in day was Sunday, ugh! But thanks to Dean we not only got to stay the night but we had the Guest house all to ourselves. It was perfect! Our son loved having his own room and we were so lucky that Dean could make it happen. Breakfast the next morning was delicious and hit the spot. If we didn't have a wedding to get to we would have loved to have stayed and enjoyed all the Mountain View Inn has to offer. Beautiful property, terrific owners, worth a stop and stay when in Norfolk.

Would you like to travel 100 years back in time and be welcomed graciously when you arrive? You wouldn't have to travel very far. The idyllic town of Norfolk is snuggled in the hills of northwest Connecticut, and the handsome Mountain View Inn is there to greet you with genuine hospitality. For us, a stay at the Mountain View was the perfect place to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary, and we celebrated in grand style. Dean, our host, greeted us warmly at the front door of this perfectly restored Victorian mansion ("B&B" doesn't do it justice) and showed us to our well-appointed room. Thankfully, there's no phone, no TV, no Wi-Fi. The vintage furnishings and historically accurate decor, apparent in every detail throughout the Inn, are witness to the glory of a bygone era. We lost ourselves completely in the ambience and found ourselves living large in the Gilded Age. We admit to enjoying every minute of it. Dinner at the popular Infinity Bistro down the road and a delicious breakfast, thoughtfully prepared and artfully presented by Dean the following morning, completed our stay. We never wanted to leave, but The Present beckoned. As we drove off in our time machine, we promised ourselves we would return to the past, confident that the Mountain View Inn would be there to welcome us. Deb & Joe - Time Travellers

We recently visited the Mountain View Inn for two nights. Everything was outstanding...our room, hospitality, and breakfast. Seating options for buffet breakfast included large dining table, smaller table for 2-4, or outside on the covered porch or open patio. Dean and Jean Marie were helpful in every way...they gave us great suggestions for dinner and music in Norfolk. This was a perfect stay before we drove to Woodbury to visit friends. We hope to return! Kathy and Joe

We absolutely loved our stay at the Mountain View Inn. The innkeepers, Dean and Jean Marie, were welcoming and gracious hosts. They take great pride in their B&B and it shows in all of the beautiful antiques inside and the care and maintenance outside. Dean is an artist and we really enjoyed talking to him about his paintings which were beautiful. Our room was the smallest but had a beautiful private sunporch. It was beautifully furnished and immaculate. Before checking out we made reservations to come back and spend more time in Norfolk. We have stayed in many B&B's and we have to say this is truly one if the best!

As soon as we walked in we felt as if we were transported to a bygone era of beauty, graciousness and elegance. Everywhere we turned our eyes feasted on artistic and decorative treasures chosen and/or created by our hosts Dean and Jean Marie. We immediately felt welcomed and at home and by the time our four night stay ended we came to know them not only as innkeepers but also as friends. Our room was comfortable, well appointed and well maintained. The breakfasts were sumptious, filling and delicious. We were provided with excellent information about local attractions and spot on directions. Last but not least we were enchanted by the company of their dog, Miss Noelle.

Charming and immaculate rooms and cottages offered by owners Dean and Jean Marie Johnson. Norfolk is a pleasant surprise with free concerts by college students studying at the Yale University Summer School of Music and Arts in Norfolk. Great dining and entertainment at the Infinity Concert Hall.We are definitely going back this summer.

This is what a bed and breakfast should be: pristine, charmingly decorated, friendly, gracious hospitality of the innkeeper and his wife, beautifully presented and scrumptious breakfast.

With its peaceful setting on the side of a hill, beautifully restored rooms, elegant yet warm and welcoming, incredibly comfy beds, and bountiful breakfasts served by a gracious host, the Mountain View Inn provided the perfect spot to relax and unwind. It's an easy drive from NY suburbs, and in the most convenient location for music, antiques, and exploring the countryside. Can't wait to return and see it in another season!

Lovely large house, restored to functionality by caring new mgmt, but still with the rustic and historic charm synonymous with the area. Quirky vintage clothing and accessory shop in the ground floor run by mgmt as a side business - big plus. Expansive property with big lawn all around and patio in the back- big porch is perfect for lounging around with a book or tablet and watching the world move by slowly. Mgmt. uses local farms for ingredients to make breakfast and the caring and effort shows with their presentation and attentiveness in the morning. It's great - it's everything one should expect of a perfect B&B.

I have enjoyed the hospitality of many B&B's in the past 20 years. The Mountain View Inn stands out as the very best of my B&B experiences. Dean and Jean-Marie provided an outstanding venue for our wedding weekend! As it was a second-time-around for both of us, the guest list was limited - our parents, our children and their significant others, 10 in all. The Inn was the perfect size for our party, and we were allowed to treat it as if this was our home to enjoy as we pleased! Breakfasts were sumptuous and beautifully laid out. The family-sized table in the dining room hosted a Friday night dinner, our breakfasts, and wedding cake and champagne post-celebration meal on Saturday night. We enjoyed picking out some special treasures from The Gilded Peacock boutique, an impressive collection of unique vintage clothing, jewelry and accessories. Our wedding was held in front of a tranquil fire, in the the Inn's parlor. Dean's recommendation of a restaurant in the area was spot-on; and the quiet presence of Dean, Doug and their staff in the background, anticipating our needs, helped our plans to flow without a hitch. This place, and its innkeepers, are gems!

First let me say my wife and I did not spend a lot of time at the Inn, as we were late for a family party when we arrived, and had commitments early the next morning. Now let me tell you the setting is perfect for a stay in a quiet country Inn in New England. The furnishings are picture perfect and seem to be a life long collection of innkeepers that truly enjoy what they are doing. The Johnson's provided a great breakfast,(I particularly enjoyed "Grapes in the vinyard"). I would recommend a stay here without hesitation!

We spent 3 days and nights at the Mountain View Inn and wish it could have been longer. From the moment we arrived we felt welcome and so very comfortable in the Jenny room with a porch. It was relaxed elegance with beautful surroundings and the breakfasts were scrumptious!! Dean & Jean Marie covered every angle to make our stay a very memorable one. A perfect spot to unwind, rest and watch the world pass by on the patio. Thanks to you both for a fantastic stay!

My husband, son and I had a wonderful time at Mountain View Inn. It's so clear that the Dean and Jean Marie love what they do. I would stay here again without hesitation -- if you're ever in the area and need a luxurious home away from home, don't miss the chance to stay here. Every little detail is perfect and the breakfast is out of this world!

What an extraordinary experience! The inn, itself, is magnificent. Victorian décor doesn’t usually resonate with me but the Mountain View is infused with such artistry and taste that it took my breath away. Every detail of design and comfort was thought of. Breakfast was a feast. However, the crowning jewels of the inn are the charming innkeepers themselves. From the moment we walked in the door they set a tone of informal grace and warmth. They generously shared their wealth of knowledge about the area, its history and possibilities. We’ll return again just for the fascinating conversation!

From the moment we arrived in this lovingly restored old Victorian we felt at home. Dean & Jean Marie are warm, friendly and interesting hosts who clearly have put their hearts into this Inn. Every room is filled with wonderful antiques that reflect their artistic talents along with the home's rich history. We stayed in room #4 which was very comfortable and had the added feature of an attached sunroom. We spent our evening in Norfolk at the Infinity Music Venue and had a terrific time. The venue has great acoustics and an eclectic line up of well known (and somewhat less well known) performers. Upon our return to the Inn cookies and port awaited which we enjoyed while lounging in our sunroom. Our breakfast was beautifully presented and hosted by Dean who we truly enjoyed spending time with. We had a fun-filled, relaxing weekend in CT and will definitely return to the Mountain View Inn.

This place is gorgeous! Everything was perfect, incredibly clean and comfortable. From the welcoming fruit juice and cookies the the morning after full breakfast, not a single detail escapes Dean and Jean Marie Johnson. This may be the best B+B I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy, but it's more than that. Dean and Jean Marie really make you feel really special and at home. It doesn't get better than this!!!

The Mountain View Inn was even better than I expected. From the beautiful wraparound mahogany porch to the freshly baked, white chocolate, macadamia nut cookies, Dean and Jean Marie's (owners/innkeepers) attention to detail was impressive. The Inn had antique charm without being stuffy, and the atmosphere was friendly and comfortable. For Dean and Jean Marie, the Inn is not just a business, it is their home. I believe this is ultimately what made our stay so wonderful. In addition to the beautiful inn and great service, the breakfast was delicious, and the homemade breads were better than anything I've purchased in bakeries. The Mountain View Inn is only a minute from the Infinity Music Hall/Bistro, so my friend and I ate at the Bistro and attended the Dar Williams concert. The newly restored, historic music hall has an atmosphere unlike any other music venue I've ever visited. The 300 seat hall with its soaring ceilings and stained glass windows, is set up in a way that promotes interaction between the artists and the audience. Dar Williams expressed how thrilled she was to have the chance to perform in such a unique place. Apparently, word is spreading around the music community that Infinity Music Hall is a place that performers should not miss. If you plan on attending a concert here, order your tickets well ahead of time because they sell out fast. In addition, I'd recommend making reservations for the Bistro if you plan on dinning there before an event. Overall, our stay at the Mountain View Inn was the perfect weekend trip. The convenient location in the quintessential New England town of Norfolk makes it a place I will visit again. I also look forward to seeing Dean and Jean Marie (and their rescue poodle, Noel), because when I left I felt they were more like friends and not just innkeepers.

This is a wonderful, comfortable, very clean country inn/bed and breakfast. It is an intriguingly restored large Victorian home, for many years a reknown German restaurant. The owners (Dean and Jean Marie) are warm, engaging hosts. My wife and were there for a dinner/conference. The food and wine were fabulous (catered); the breakfast the following morning was wonderful. Great location steps away from the Yale summer music center; Norfolk's Infinity theater is just a bit farther. Great location for exploring the southern Berkshires. Just superb. Enjoy. FC

The hosts Dean and Jean Marie are helpful and eager to please guests. The food service and preparation is of top quality.
