We just stayed at this little INN for 2 nights and were happy we did't need a car to get to the busier area of Santa Barbara (downtown). A very good night quiet sleep followed by great freshly prepared breakfast in the morning in this beautiful garden. The room had a small aircon unit attached to the window. Dominique was very welcoming and it was a pleasure to have met and have a chat with her about France, Europe and the living in California. We would always return to the Secret Garden, however next time we would probably try to get a cottage - nothing wrong with the room in the main building but prefer more space.

I came to Santa Barbara for a much needed relaxation and detoxification and I'm very happy that I choose to stay at The Secret Garden Inn. The place is clean, very homey and is very relaxing. The inn keeper, Dominique, is a very kind and sweet lady. Her breakfast (especially her quiche and orange pound cake) is to die for. The rooms are serene, spacious land very nicely decorated. I also love the fact that there is a private garage and a roaming guard at night to make sure that the property is safe. Would also recommend getting the in house massage service. Would definitely come back. perfect for families with pets, young and old couples and for someone who wants to have mini vacation or a break from the busy city life. We went here do our eight year anniversary celebration. We have an amazing time , we love the quint little cottages , and the home made breakfast and the brownies in the evening . It was a very relaxing and quiet weekend for us . We have been coming here for over ten years it's the only place we stay when we come to Santa Barbara . It's close to many good restaurants and even walking distance to our favorite ice cream shop. Thanks secret garden for providing us with many memories and more to come ¿¿
Thank you for your loyalty. We are glad you enjoy the Secret Garden.

The Inn was great except for the cottage we had. The Hummingbird Cottage is isolated in the back of the property overlooking an alley and a parking lot. It has no garden sitting area. There was a domestic dispute across the alley from us while we were there which was quite disturbing. I highly recommend staying in a cottage other than the Hummingbird.

Always a pleasure to stay with Dominique at the Secret Garden Inn. We have stayed in most of the rooms during the past 13-14 years and have never been disappointed. The breakfasts are bountiful with European flair. We would highly recommend the Inn to anyone who values a peaceful/pleasant venue, easy walk to the Mission and personable hostess. Bon voyage!
It is always a pleasure to see you . Have a Happy New Year !

We loved our stay at the Secret Garden Inn. We stayed in one of the cottages and it was perfect for us. Dominique is a wonderful host. The location is in a central location, walking distance (about 20 minutes) to Downtown Santa Barbara and the Mission. We walked and used Uber to get around. Perfect.

This is a nice B&B in a good area. We had a lovely, hot breakfast both days. Our room was not fancy but adequate and clean. We were in the main house (built in 1901) and, as guests started arriving for breakfast, it was just a little noisy. We were up anyway so it didn't matter. There were many cottages out back and I can only assume they were quieter. It was a pleasant stay. I especially enjoyed the resident cat, Peanut. It was nice to have a pet around in the common area as mine were left home!

My husband and I very much enjoyed our stay with our Labrador Retriever. Dominque was extremely kind and helpful. Breakfast and evening wine and snacks on the patio was fun. Nice to meet other guests. The cottage we stayed in was comfortable, cute and clean. Love the private patio and hot tub.

This is an amazing place to stay. We are going to make this place out new tradition every year. The place was serene and a great get-away. French cuisine was prepared every morning which we ate in the courtyard behind the main house. Wine and cheese is served on Friday and Saturday nights. It was a great way to get to know our neighbors. Dominique is very sweet and does an amazing job making sure her guests have everything they need. We stayed in the hummingbird and it had a private hot tub. Love everything about this place!

We are very familiar with Santa Barbara and having the Secret Garden as a quiet retreat was perfect while we visited our son for a few days. Dominique was hospitable in every way and has created a little oasis off the busy street where all is tranquil and one can sit on the porch or out at a little table and read and talk under the dappled sunlight under the trees. In the morning she greeted us with a smile and coffee and tea in her welcoming kitchen and made us the best omelet and quiche breakfasts and oh my, the breads baked by her daughter were out of this world! We stayed two nights and would have happily spent more nights in the comfy cottages with the bright colors, a good bed and nice linens. Other details we appreciated: the shower worked very well, and our internet too. We will definitely come back the next time we are in Santa Barbara.

Dominique, the innkeeper who is French, is so personable, charming and nice. She prepares fabulous breakfasts, wine and snacks at 5:00 and brownies and goodies with hot cider in the evening. Eating in her outside garden is wonderful! Our cottage, the Wood Thrush, was so comfortable and we were able to enjoy a warm fire in the wood-burning stove one evening when it was quite cool! Will definitely stay here again!

This is the second time my boyfriend and I have stayed here! We love it so much. They welcome dogs which makes us very happy as well. We will definitely be back! :)

The owner, Dominique, makes her guests feel welcome and valued, as evidenced by her gracious (and delicious) care! We were treated to wine and cheese in the afternoon, brownies in the evening, croissants and eggs in the morning, and delightful conversation when desired. The blue and yellow decor is charming - the cat, Peanuts, endearing; the garden relaxing -- We will return!

I write many reviews and travel a lot. We came to The Secret Garden in Santa Barbara on a lark. Wow, were we impressed. We had the smallest room, Kingfisher, but it was more than adequate. Came with a completely private patio and hot tub. The owner, Dominique is a treasure. It's worth staying just for her croissants. Breakfast was much more then I expected, and all of it good. Wine and cheese in the late afternoon. Good conversation. Helpful restaurant suggestions. Oh, did I mention the grounds are beautiful? Come stay for a night or for much longer, you will love it. mfp21

What can we say? Dominique is amazing: the perfect host! She is kind, funny, welcoming and effortlessly sets the energy of her space! In addition, we were greeted by a cozy room, delicious breakfast (and wine/hors d'oeuvres), and a quiet, relaxing ambiance. We came to Secret Garden Inn and Cottages for a couple days over the Christmas holiday, and could not have asked for a better experience. The best vacations feel like you are getting away, yet, at one in the same time, feel at home. We'll be back!

Had the most WONDERFUL 3 Days here...everything was perfect, I had the best 50th birthday weekend. The owner went beyond the call of duty when my fiancé had over a 100 red roses delivered to our room ahead of time and she put them in vases all over our little cottage. She was very sweet and thoughtful for doing that. We stayed in the Woodthrush Cottage, it was very quaint and private and we absolutely loved the hot tub. There was a fridge, but with there was a microwave too. The AC worked great and the King Size bed was super comfortable...we would totally stay here again!! Kudos...

Parking, Wifi. Breakfast, Evening Reception: Included! Hospitality inspired by true passion. Dominique and her team have lived in and travelled the globe; they understand more than most what a vacation stay should be. Parlez-vous français? Profiter d'une belle conversation avec Dominique! Enter a world of beautiful and colorful plants and flowers. A Victorian style home with architecture and craftsmanship from the early 1900's awaits you upon check in. There are individual cottages throughout the property with unique features on the interior and exterior. Our room was large and comfortable with a wonderful bay window. Windows that actually opened to let the fresh air in! On the deck there was a great hot tub that we took advantage of on both nights of our stay. The privacy and night sky view was incredible. We enjoyed fruits, wines, cheeses, breads and more; great Hors d'oeuvres to start our evening with. A nice outdoor dining area with plenty of tables and chairs for everyone in a tree lined garden oasis. Breakfast is served individually. Not buffet style and not with heat lamps and the like. The freshest fruits, breads and the tastiest scones youll ever find. Chilled juices, fresh hot coffees and your choice of teas. The grand finale is Dominique’s Fabulous Omelette. She puts some special love and magic into these and the result is just amazing. We discovered later that she is actually well known in the area for this! If you are into loud parties at night, do not care for privacy, peace and quiet, do not enjoy historic craftsmanship, nor understand the concept of true hospitality, this may not be the place for you. This is not a Motel 6, so class and respect for the hard work of this team goes a long way. Thank you Domique and team for a great experience!
We are so glad you appreciated your stay. Come back to enjoy another great omelette or quiche ! Thank you for your review.

Pros: Stay was in a private cottage with A/C. Proximity to State Street - dining/shopping/etc. Cons: Old bed, bedding, daybed. A little TLC would go a long way to upgrading the appearance and feel of the place. Old doesn't always mean poor condition, but in this case much of the place looked tired and worn. Many window screens appeared broken. Ants in bathroom. Ended up in my toothbrush, on the washcloths, etc. Had to go into main house to get bug spray. I wouldn't stay here again unless it was remodeled.

The substitute hosts, Ron and Linda, exceeded my expectations! The location of the Inn, and finding it were challenging for a visitor to Santa Barbara. But once found meet Mt expectations, and in some areas exceeded them. The hosts were gracious, and very attentive. The breakfast camaraderie with the other guests was appreciated, and special!

We stayed one night May 26th in the main guest house. Our room was clean, comfortable and cozy. The Innkeeper Dominique was very helpful and hospitable, the breakfast she served was a generous portion and was phenomenally good. We were fortunate to have been the only ones there because it was just after the Memorial Day holiday and everyone had checked out. Parking situation can be a little tricky but we were able to find a spot in the back of the property so we moved our car from street parking to the back the next morning. The property is situated in a great location, close to everything that there is to see and do in downtown Santa Barbara. We would definitely stay again, even Peanut the house cat was sweet and a nice addition reminding us of our cats we left behind at home. Our only regret is that we wish we could have stayed longer. Can't wait to go back and if we do we will definitely stay here again!! Book your reservation with no hesitation. Dominique will take good care of you and make you feel right at home.
We are glad you appreciated your stay, we hope to see you again.

We stayed in the Kingfisher room for a couple of days. While it's a small room (queen size bed and a table and chair, plus bathroom), the stay was very enjoyable. It's a nice quiet environment, delicious breakfast, wine & cheese at 5 pm, then brownies at 7 pm. The hot tub really made the experience. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Secret Garden.

I've never stayed at a B&B before and this was an excellent first experience. Both Dominique and her daughter were wonderful and welcoming and made sure I had any comfort I required. The Cardinal Room where I stayed was spacious and quiet, and the room and bathroom were clean. There were even some lovely French toiletries in the bathroom. There was plenty of bottled water and other beverages in the refrigerator and yummy desserts in the evening. Breakfast was delightful, my favorite being the scones. Also, when I accidentally left something behind, Dominique called me on my cell to let me know. Would definitely stay here again!

My husband and I spent a weekend in Santa Barbara. The location is good - very close to a wonderful coffee shop ( It's a Grind) and fabulous icecream ( McConnell's). It's about 20 minute walk to action on State Street. We walked everywhere even late at night with no problems. The breakfast was fabulous & healthy , all fresh and homemade. We enjoyed talking with the owner, Dominique as our son goes to school in France. The late afternoon wine and cheese was fun and we chatted with other guests then. Our room (Kingfisher) was small but adequate and we loved the hot tub. Overall a good value and location to enjoy Santa Barbara.

Charming place! Parking is easy. Park on the street or there is parking in back. I stayed in the Nightingale suite. It's one master bedroom with a fireplace, a smaller bedroom with a sofa bed, flat screen TV, a bathroom and a private patio with a jacuzzi. The master bedroom was a decent size and the bed was really comfortable. The fireplace was the only source of heat and it did a really good job of keeping me warm throughout the night, that and the cozy flannel sheets. The smaller bedroom also had a fridge in it, where we stored champagne. Within a closet in the smaller room, they included two bathrobes and extra towels for the jacuzzi. The jacuzzi was good except that the lights did not work and the heat seemed to drop a little, it stayed at 97, although I had turned it up to 102. Although I did not take advantage of it, they offer wine and cheese at 5 pm. I did take advantage of the tea they offer at 7 pm and onward. I did not indulge in the brownies they offered but looking back, I should have. To get these things, you need to go through the main house. It's also where you check-in and check-out of. The main house is decorated in beautiful paintings, has a piano and there's an adorable cat that lives there! Breakfast is served in the main house and Dominique (the owner) had put out scones, quiche, coffee, fresh bread... The breakfast was really good. The scones were fantastic. I really liked this place. It's really beautiful and charming and the service was really great. If I'm back in the area, I know where to stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The Secret Garden provides a charming alternative to the faceless chain hotels where my wife and I often stay, The owner instantly made us feel at home and the homemade French breakfasts were really appreciated. A B&B should not be expected to have all the amenities of a regular hotel (pool, workout area, etc.) and the Secret Garden is not an exception. However, we found the tradeoff well worth it when considering our overall experience.
Thank you for your good review, we are looking forward to seeing you again.

My girlfriend and I decided to try a weekend getaway in Santa Barbra for our 1-year anniversary. We found the Secret Garden Inn and chose it for our place to stay. It was very nice, cozy homelike atmosphere with a friendly helpful staff. We enjoyed meeting the other guests and chatting with them during the collective morning breakfasts. The breakfasts were delicious, French cuisine that exceeded our expectations. The 5:00 wine and cheese hour was wonderful as well with a nice patio to enjoy the treats with a scenic, quaint backyard view. The room was spartan (ours was called the "Garden Room" I believe, and others I imagine are different), clean and comfortable. My only real complaint is there was no refrigerator in the room and the ones in the main area were completely full. It made it so we chose not to visit the farmer's market we were interested in since we had no way to keep any produce or other food fresh and no way to keep ice or take leftovers from a dinner for a midnight snack. I think the patrons of Secret Garden Inn would do well to invest $50-75 on a dorm-sized fridge for the room we and any other that doesn't have one. Otherwise, a great place to stay when visiting Santa Barbara.

It was a pleasure staying as a guest of Mme. Hannaux (Dominique) in Santa Barbara. The bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom (including a claw-foot tub) was clean, modern and accommodating, the full breakfast (fresh quiche every morning with fruit and artisan breads & croissants) was consciously prepared and served every morning. Friendly cat, fresh-baked brownies at the end of the day, gorgeous patio on which to enjoy meals under a huge, spreading persimmon tree, gracious hostess. Like being in a French country cottage. Definitely will return.

We arrived after Dominique closed the office, but the key and instructions were ready for us to pick up in the prearranged spot. We wandered along a brick pathway to the rear of the main house, and through a well-lit patio area to our little yellow cottage, where the lamp was on, welcoming us in. The cottage was one of four that flank the patio area. The Whippoorwill Room was immaculate and homey. Breakfast of fresh fruit; made-to-order omelets; and a crunchy baguette or croissants, served with fresh butter and French jams, was out under the fruit-laden persimmon tree. It was absolutely lovely, with attentive service from Dominique.

Secluded setting in a residential area. Santa Barbara is small so getting downtown was no problem.Lovely patio and cottages with seating areas. Secret Garden is my very favorite Bed and Breakfast. It is beautiful, quiet and so peaceful. My own private Jacuzzi surrounded by trees, flowers, birds singing and stars to watch at night is such a wonderful gift. The other touches of lovely wine and cheeses in late afternoon and brownies and tea before bed and not to mention the amazing breakfast. The owner Dominique is French and so kind and gracious she adds to the total experience. She has heavenly French soups to take home form gifts too. I absolutely love the Secret Garden.

The Secret Garden Inn is located in a residential area of Santa Barbara with quiet and pleasant surroundings. It is a short (20 minute) walk to the historical Mission in one direction, and a half hour walk to the downtown area in the other; of course one can also just call a cab. It is thus very convenient for those needing some R&R but do not want to stray too far from civilisation. Our party of three adults and a baby fit comfortably into one of the larger cottages. The cooler evenings of the Californian central coast, even in summer, makes the hot tub a wonderful addition. The only thing we did not expect was that the pull-out bed for the third adult also functions as the hallway linking the main bedroom, the bathroom, and the patio with the hot tub. This caused some very minor inconvenience for us but should not trouble any guests with only two adults. The breakfast is as wonderful as advertised: the quiche is phenomenal. We also very much enjoyed the wine-and-cheese service in the afternoon and the availability of the hot drinks and brownies in the evening. The way the refreshments are set up really encourage guests to unwind a little and chat with each other, giving the place a rather unique atmosphere compared to other B&Bs.

Cozy, Comfortable and Clean! A private, "homey" cottage in a residential neighborhood, yet close, (5-10 minutes) to the beach, stores and restaurants. I felt right at home both in my little cottage and in the patio garden while having a delicious homemade breakfast right from the kitchen. Service was non intrusive yet extremely friendly. Its own little parking lot - no struggling with luggage. Much, much better than the motel - hotel experience especially for the dollar value. if you are traveling to Santa Barbara, I highly recommend Dominique's Secret Garden as a place to relax in the evening and greet your morning.

My daughter and I just spent six days at the Secret Garden, and I'm already feeling a little wistful remembering how much we enjoyed its peaceful atmosphere, and the friendly welcome from our hostess Mme Dominique Hannaux. As others have mentioned, she puts out a bountiful spread every morning, then at 5:00 pm there is wine and cheese, and later yet hot water for tea/herb tea, as well as brownies. Breakfast under the persimmon trees is delightful especially when her sweet cat Peanut comes to visit. Madame Hannaux was very helpful with restaurants suggestions, and possible excursions for us since we were car-less. Her clientele is international, during our stay there were guests from France, the UK, Norway, Canada. This added to the fun at breakfast time. Over all, a wonderful experience!

We had an enjoyable stay at the Secret Garden Inn! Our room was quaint and clean. Breakfast every morning was plentiful and delicious! In the afternoon we were greeted with wine and appetizers. We would certainly stay there again! The one thing you should be aware of is that there is no air condition in the rooms. We were provided with 2 fans, but it was hot:)

My boyfriend and I went to Santa Barbara for a wedding over 4th of July weekend. This place was half the rate of any other hotel, and less than a mile to the center of town. What a wonderful surprise! We stayed at a charming little cottage (ours was the Mockingbird room), in a quite area with a comfortable bed and shower. The main winning point here was the service. OUTSTANDING breakfast each morning, friendly people and cider and brownies at night. It was a truly special experience, and close to State Street, the main drag. Would definitely go back!

Over the last four years with my daughter attending UCSB, I have stayed at many hotels. In trying to reduce the costs I looked at B &B's. We had a wonderful time and even had our own private hot tub! We could walk downtown and did not have to drive, great place!

If you are looking for a quiet getaway, this is the place to stay. We had an outside cottage room with a hot tub and wished we had booked more days here. The Secret Garden Inn and Cottages is quaint and charming with flowers blooming in the courtyard, good food and good service. We will be returning.

Pleasant room, friendly staff, excellent food. The grounds are gorgeous, and being able to eat in the gardens was very nice. Wine and cheese in the evenings, dessert at night, with coffee and tea available throughout the day, made for a delicious stay. Breakfast was hot and delicious, and the homemade scones were fabulous. Would definitely recommend. Oh, and parking!

I was in the Kingfisher Suite and it was quiet and comfy. The [full] breakfast was delightful and b/c it was June and warm we were able to dine outside in the lovely garden with the blooming flowers. The suite had all the regular amenities except for and ; the bathroom was spacious, the bedroom was cozy. All VERY clean. The closet was spacious and has a refrigerator, which was a very nice bonus. The tub needs a bathmat or anti-slide strips. The tub was a bit slippery. I thought the pillows were too flat, but pillows are such an individual thing. There were fluffier ones in the shams so i could have swapped them out. There was no ceiling fan and I did not see any AC, so if you are coming during the heat of summer you may want to see if they remedy that during the heat-filled months with a window unit. It was a borderline warm evening when I was there, so it made me wonder how I would ever sleep there if it was truly hot. The Inn Keeper and her cat are delightful, very warm and friendly, very helpful with plans and suggestions; very high energy and gracious. I recommend staying here. The price is well worth it and affordable for Santa Barbara. Close to State Street and also convenient to HWY 101.

This cute bed and breakfast is in a quiet neighborhood and close to State Street and Stern's Wharf. It's a good value considering that hotels in Santa Barbara seems pretty expensive. My friend and I stayed in one of the rooms in the main house and I was initially nervous since we were next to the kitchen, but noise wasn't a problem at all. However, we were up at 7am and breakfast wasn't served until 8:30am, so I can't tell you how noisy it would be during the breakfast hours. And because we were up at 7am, we decided to go out for breakfast instead of waiting at the inn so I can't comment on the food. I did try a brownie from the kitchen and it was delicious. Overall, I would stay here again when I'm back in Santa Barbara. Note: I was forced to enter a rating for Service and Dining even though "not applicable" would be the best option for me - so I choose the middle rating.

Everything just right for us, casual, comfortable, reminiscent of Europe. Decor tasteful, not fancy or cluttered. Spacious bath, cozy bedroom, private deck and hot tub. Excellent food and drink.

We stayed mid-week. The room was small, but well appointed for a B&B. The proprietor was very pleasant and knowledgeable about the area and amenities. She was a marvelous cook and very friendly. Because it was a small B&B we sometimes had a slight delay in reaching her via telephone. That is the ONLY "complaint" with this establishment. I will be staying there again.

The cottage design is cozy and makes you feel at home. The fireplace and the patio jacuzzi adds to the relaxing atmosphere. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway this is the right place for you. We didn't get the chance to attend brunch that comes with the stay, so we cannot comment. Breakfast and late evening tea/ brownies are served in the main kitchen. You have to be there early on time though, as they run out soon. We just cared about hot tea late night, but there was no hot water left in the flask. We loved the place, and we will come here again.

Very pleasant stay at this lovely inn. The secluded, gated garden was perfect since we were traveling with our dog and while the room itself was small it suited out needs nicely. The location of this inn was perfect for us - yoga studio just across the alley, coffee shop on the next corner, ice cream parlor half a block away, and very close to State Street and Highway 101. It was quiet, private, relaxing, and the complimentary breakfast an added bonues.

The room was small and hard to fit luggage into. We could barely fit our luggage in-between the hot tub and and the wall to the bedroom to get to the front door. I realized from the photo that is must be photographed from outside the front door-not totally accurate.

Decided to stay here on a whim. Good thing we did, thoroughly enjoyed the stay at the Secret Garden! Dominique was an outstanding host, her breakfasts were unique and extremely tasty, and the property was better than expected as it appeared to be fairly close to the 101 freeway. We enjoyed a quiet and restful stay at the Secret Garden Inn. So far, it is the best value for the money we've found in Santa Barbara as we stay there 3 - 4 times per year for family events. Would definitely recommend it!

The secret garden is a great little B&B close to Downtown Santa Barbra. My Girlfriend and I stayed here in the Hummingbird room for valentines day this year and it was the perfect ending to our already wonderful night. We stayed up late relaxing and listening to music on our private deck in the hot tub under the stars. The breakfast was a little disappointing because I thought there would be a bit more food to chose from but overall what we did eat was delicious. Our room was a sweet little homey place with a nice comfortable bed. I would've liked a bigger T.V. to watch our movie on but we made due. For the price (considering the hot tub, late checkout, food and surrounding location) it was worth every penny! My Girlfriend and I will defiantly be coming back especially now that i know they allow dogs!

The breakfast was fantastic. Wine when we arrived, brownies and hot cider in the evening. Excellent service. Clean room. The host went out of her way to make guests feel comfortable. We stayed in Bob White which is in the main house. So that means you're a little closer to the kitchen and have a little less privacy than some of the other accommodations. Also the shower is a little odd, but it's exactly as portrayed in the photo on their website. All in all a good experience.

We enjoyed our 3 night stay in the Garden Room with its comfortably furnished private enclosed garden space & deck; the soothing blue decor of the bedroom & the spacious bathroom with artistic touches. We understand the wine receptions are always wonderful though we didn't participate (there was a lot of new territory for us to explore out & about - we walked to museums, the botanic garden, town & wharf). Breakfasts were excellent. Dominique is an absolutely wonderful person and host and it was a joy to talk, share stories and laugh together.

As veterans of B&Bs for many years our standards are high, so we came with high expectations, hey it's Santa Barbara . We were not disappointed. The Inn Keeper Dominique was very gracious and an unbelievable cook. Both breakfasts were of French cuisine, plentiful and very delicious. I can still taste the pears cooked in red wine. Room was decent for the price, quiet and private. Location was a block away from McConnells Ice cream and close to State street. If you are going to SB, be sure and stay with Dominique, you won't be disappointed. J& B Oakhurst, Ca.

This was the second visit we made with our dogs. The location is very near downtown Santa Barbara, with a very quiet and restful feeling. Breakfast was generous with warm homemade breads, and the dogs have plenty of places to sniff around in the garden. If you like staying in places that feel like you live in the neighborhood rather than an impersonal hotel, it is your kind of place. My husband was not crazy about the only one glass of wine per guest during the evening happy hour, and the pet policy is a bit terse--"pets off the furniture, housekeeping can tell if they've been on the furniture and you'll be charged a fee"--and you do get the feeling they are "pet tolerant" rather than pet friendly. But overlooking these issues, I'd stay there again as it is overall a very pleasant place.
Thank you for coming back to the Secret Garden, we appreciate your business and your comments. A little precision, we do not limit our guests to one glass of wine and yes we do not love dogs unconditionally when they leave paw marks on the bedding and the furniture.

Nestled in the trees in a quiet neighborhood, the little cottages felt very homelike. Scrupulously clean, private and comfortable. Dominique is a lovely, friendly person and is genuinely interested in her guests and their comfort. Breakfasts were delicious -- fresh-cooked quiche and omelettes, warm croissants, persimmon and pumpkin breads. A friendly place where new friends can be met, over breakfast or a 5:00 glass of wine and snacks (also included). Loved it, and would definitely stay there another time.
Thank you for your review, we are happy you enjoyed your stay and we hope to see you again.

The location is away from noise. Easy access and parking. The happy hour everyday with appies and wine totally amazing!!! The breakfasts....fresh fruits, pastries and quiches....all things yummy! The bed, oiy, my poor back and shoulders. Never ever had pain in my back before....sleeping on a super extra firm surface not good for me or my spouse. So, if sleep is high on your comfort list, this might be not the right one. But ask when you book if they have different cottages with different beds.

Just completed our third stay at Secret Garden. Needless to say, we really like it and plan another visit next year. Most recently we enjoyed one of the rooms with private hot tub - what an after dinner treat! We also like the Bobwhite room in the main house. Everything in the rooms has been thoughtfully and charmingly arranged. Breakfast overseen by hostess Dominique is like dining out at a fine restaurant ... but at someone's lovely home. Try the patio when the weather permits.

You can't even tell this Inn exists from the street but the Secret Garden is a hidden oasis in Downtown SB. The rooms are charming and many have their own decks and hot tubs. Stayed here for our 20th anniversary. The big selling point was the private hot tub in the cottage we stayed in. Most places, when they say they have a "Jacuzzi", it ends up being a regular tub in the bathroom with some jets, something two people can't possibly fit into together unless they're under 5 feet tall and weigh less than 100 pounds each. This place has an actual hot tub in several rooms that is private to that particular room. It's not quite spa quality (jets weren't that powerful, and it struggled to maintain 104 once two 98.6 bodies were in it) but it's worlds better than your average "Jacuzzi" tub, and IT'S RIGHT THERE!! Also, breakfast both days was great, staff was really nice and helpful, and the grounds were quaint without feeling sanitized. Only complaint was the parking was a bit tight, and that wasn't helped by people parking in abnormal ways. Once we got out of the car, though, it was great!! :)

Great location for a BnB. We stayed in Santa Barbara for a wedding and decided to stay at the Secret Garden Inn and Cottages over staying at a traditional hotel. It was the best decision. My husband and I have been to the Secret Garden Inn several times over the past 15 years. It has always been a treat, and easy get away from LA. The cottages with the private jacuzzi's have been our favorites. It had been a few years since our last visit, and unfortunately I think we may look elsewhere for our next visit to Santa Barbara. For starters, they used to have the option of having breakfast served to your room - which we really loved. This time when I inquired about it, the woman who checked us in had no knowledge that had ever existed (she had been working there for about a year.) The next morning, I went into the kitchen to see if it was still possible to request that. The owner, a stern French woman, greeted me with a bit of a sour face and barked "we don't have people here to do that any more." Now, if she had said that in a friendly tone and actually looked me in the eye I might have felt differently about it. For an establishment that should be based around service, she's in dire need of people skills. The quality of the breakfasts was also not what we had remembered. To top it all off, the next morning, we were awoken to the sounds of loud pounding and buzz saws. Apparently the cottage adjacent to us needed to have their toilet replaced "before the next reservation". Why on earth that needed to be done from 8am - 10am, instead of between 12-3 (after check out time and before the new check-in) is beyond me. For spending $300 a night for the room, is a little quiet too much to ask for? In addition, the room seemed a bit tired, and in dire need of a refresher. Everything seemed a bit faded. On the other hand, the gardens, which were beautiful and had grown in quite a bit since our last visit, were lovely. The other plus was the incredible brownies that had available in the evening. Overall, it was unfortunately a bit of a disappointment.

The Secret Garden is a charming inn. From the moment we arrived we felt more than welcome. Dominique is a wonderful owner - informative, full of suggestions, and an awesome chef. Her breakfast casseroles are sublime, and there's home-made jam on the table every morning. I highly recommend getting a room with a hot-tub. There's nothing more relaxing than hanging out on the private deck with whirlpool jets at your back after a long day of shopping up and down State Street. An added plus- McConnell's Ice Cream Shop is a block away, and Dominique leaves out baked goods at night too. Her chocolate chip brownies are the best!

If you look for perfection wrt to set-up, equipment and cleanliness this is not the place to go to. We stayed there for the second time and still think that the atmosphere is great!

This bed and breakfast is tucked away in a residential area. It would be a great place for someone looking to relax. Dominique is the owner and her and her staff were very friendly and willing to chat if you wanted and give you insight to things in the area including restaurants. The patio dining area was very tranquil and some of the guests entered into light conversations which was nice. We had a dog with us so the place is pet friendly. However, the dogs are not allowed in the dining area and have to stay on enclosed desk of room which was alright. I guess our only surprise was how small the room was for the price that we paid for it. It is really just a small room big enough for the queen bed and then a bathroom which was actually a nice size. We have a dog and was not much room for him to turnaround. The deck with the hot tub was nice too, but the jets on the hot tub were very low. Overall, out stay was very nice and the staff, meals, wine & cheese, and snacks were great! The rooms could be a little bigger for us and the hot tub a little more jet action. As for the value, it seems that Santa Barbara is a little pricey in the summer and this was right inline with everyone else. For the room size, it was a bit high, but you do get other amenities. We would return most likely in the winter. If someone is looking to get away for a weekend to read and relax and stay somewhere quiet where the staff are friendly and food is good, then I recommend this place. It is close to many things within Santa Barbara if you do chose to get out and enjoy the town. Thanks Dominique for an enjoyable stay!

This place was a unique and comforting home away from home. I loved the quaint charm of the property and the excellent care we received from the staff. (I especially enjoyed making friends with the B&B house cat!) We stayed here two night during a busy holiday weekend, we were able to make breakfast one morning, never made it to the mid afternoon treats, but enjoyed the sweets and cider at the end of the day. I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone staying in Santa Barbara. I can't wait to return!

My husband and I stayed in the Hummingbird, it was a cute cottage with our own private hot tub. The room was great, with a spacious bathroom, air conditioner and TV. The wine and hor d'oeuvres in the evening were a great way to relax after a day of touring the city. Breakfast was also delicious and fresh, the croissants were awesome! The only minor downfall was the main part of downtown was a 1.5 mile walk, which was a little farther than we would like but we got good exercise!

Cousins, spouse and ex-spouse celebrating 1) birthday; 2) 30th wedding anniversary; and 3) retirement. Secret Garden was perfect for the 5 of us. We lingered over a delicious hot breakfast in the courtyard for several hours, enjoying the company, our hostess and her stories, the flora and fauna. It was treat! The rooms were individualized and the beds so comfortable, the residential neighborhood quiet. I had to deal with four mosquitoes before I could relax and sleep in the beautiful room, but I'm good at killing them. TV was a nice treat too. Another nice treat were the brownies and hot tea at night (we missed the happy hour wine and cheese!). Others in our party said they had to deal with low water pressure (I did not) and one person could not close the door to her cottage easily (part of the charm). I would absolutely return. THANK YOU!

I booked the garden room, firstly the bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in! The room was a good size, my only reason for not giving 5 star was that there was no where to put my bag but in the center of the room so I had to step over it to get to the bathroom. The breakfast was okay, plenty of cold items only 1 in the hot selection and it is set out in a buffet style with the only hot item being kept warm in a buffet dish! Not a hearty breakfast considering the price you are paying! I have one other small complaint, I asked for an iron to just iron a shirt and was given this travel ironing board that you need to kneel on the floor to do and the iron was awful!! when I asked for the iron the lady gave me a look like I just asked for world!!

A wonderful place to feel like you somehow "got away from it all," but conveniently located right in Santa Barbara. The owner is friendly and conversational, and she is the one who cooks the marvelous treats for breakfast as well as the " happy hour." I stayed here with my boyfriend for memorial weekend. We loved all the amenities, enjoyed the space in the nightingale cottage. The bed was small for both of us [queen]. My boyfriend is 6'5'' so not enough room for two. Everything was clean accept the bed sheets. The sheets were clean however, they had some permanent stains [the ones that never go away even after a wash]. I would have requested for new ones but I didn't notice till late at night and the inn keeper leaves at 7pm. Its about a 5 min drive from the cottage to state st where all the shops are. The decor was really french and the hot tub was really nice. Hot tub was really private.

Had such a wonderful time. Our room was so comfy. Loved the wonderful breakfasts in the beautiful garden. A nice way to meet the other guests with cheese and wine at 5:00. Very romantic way to spend our 35th anniversary. Will be coming back soon!

This is our favorite B & B because of the small cottages, the friendly service, the location and value.

It is a beautiful B&B with a great backyard. When the weather is nice you can spend quite a long time and not notice it. The owner and employees are very friendly and interesting. I would stay there again.

Would highly recommend the Secret Garden Inn and Cottages. The owner is a lovely person with knowledge of the Santa Barbara area and restaurants. The Secret Garden is a beautiful, and peaceful, getaway. Definitely recommend it, and plan on staying again in the future.

This was something that we only dreamed about. Very nice accommodations and well kept place. My wife enjoyed it so much that we will be back a few more times this year. Nice settings, comfortable environment and comfy bed. Thanks to The Secret Garden Inn. The only reason the dinning got 4 stars was because we only ate breakfast there and it was on the morning that we left. Thanks again.

My husband and I stayed 5/3-5/2013 in the Mockingbird Cottage at the Secret Garden Inn and Cottages. We stayed there on our honeymoon 20 years ago when it was called the Blue Quail Inn. 20 years later we found it to be just as quaint and perfect for a little get away. We enjoyed walking around the pier and shops in town and saw a couple of movies. Sunday we went to a succulent plant show at a local park. Wonderful weekend! (We did not eat breakfast-I would have liked to but my husband wanted a heartier breakfast so we ate at a restaurant that was walking distance. We did have the coffee and juice and that was nice to have available)

This is our third visit, and we feel so lucky to have found Secret Garden! Adorable cottages, with private hot tubs, and this one had a fireplace and extra sitting room. Dominique is so welcoming and helpful -- excellent breakfasts both mornings (quiche, fruit, homemade scones and persimmon pudding). We highly recommend!!

Our cottage was lovely with our own spa on our private deck. The inn was in a secluded residential area but was within walking distance of downtown and the waterfront. The owner and innkeeper were very hospitable and made our stay very enjoyable. Everything was very laid back and low key. I hope to return every year for our anniversary.

If you don't want to spend too much money for a bed and breakfast but yet, want the benefits of a b & b perhaps you ought to give this one a try. We stayed in the "Nightingale". As luck would have it, Dominique upgraded us to a much nicer room than the one we had reserved for ourselves. The place had all the comforts of home. We slept well at night and during the day, we left the front door open so as to enjoy the greenery and chirping birds. Our room could use some decorating improvements as well as the dining room which was cluttered. We missed the cheese, wine and brownies but the breakfasts' were good.

Just returned from a one night lovely stay at Secret Garden Inn. Arrived at night to twinkling lights everywhere. Beautiful outside space. Easy parking in back. Warm water for my favorite tea with TWO choices of brownies. How wonderful to settle for the night after a long day of travel with a cup of hot tea and homemade brownie! Bed was comfortable, room peacefully quiet. Will recommend this treasure strongly to others!

Like a lot of B&B's, this one was fun but a little quirky. We had the Cardinal Suite, with a queen bed in one room and a daybed in the sitting area. Let's just say that the daybed is really a child's bed, and the child had better be small. We enjoyed the wine and cheese in late afternoon and the breakfast: Some sort of quiche, fruit, croissants, etc. Be aware that there is a $25 charge for kids sharing a room. Ours sure didn't eat that much, and he doesn't drink wine, so we thought this was excessive. Parking is tight in the little lot. If you park near the street it will be easier to get your car out. One negative: Found two dead bugs when we turned down the bed. Mon dieu!
I am sorry you feel we have cheated you, though I am surprised of your comment on the day bed and the additional fees , the picture on the web site shows the day bed, we do not make anyone believe it is a real bed ; your son does not drink wine but he may drink french soda we offer for non alcohol drinkers or juice, he showers too and uses bedding and towels . In most of the B&Bs, these fees for an extra person are $ 30... For the dead bugs you mention, oh la la ! you should have saved them for us to see, the sheets were just out of the dryer...

We drove down from Northern California for a New Year getaway. My husband and I enjoyed our stay. The rooms were clean! and the location was very good. We stayed in the main house and our room was sunny and quite. I enjoyed the home made quiche for breakfast and chatting with other guest. We stayed for 2 nights and it was a perfect location for us. We had tickets to see afternoon performance in LA and it was nice to come back to Santa Barbara.

The breakfast was better than I expected. We stayed here for a 50th birthday, and another night for dinner with other friends. It is not flash, I agree they need to upgrade the linens, but the chilled water is a nice idea, and wine and cheese, brownies, yum they make bread pudding and scones from the Persimmon tree in the garden and baking seems to be happening all day, so it smells lovely.

My husband and I planned a romantic get away at Secret Garden and we were pleased with our stay. The Nightingale suite was cozy and with it's two room set-up (sitting room and bedroom) was very convenient. We had one rainy day and could easily stay "house bound" in comfort. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend this B+B.

we had a great time, the place is cosy, intimate , quiet, wonderful breakfast, wonderful appetizers, Dominique is a sweet human being, the room was perfect, the bathtub cute, the garden inspiring, I only have good things to say about this place, I will be back soon, thanks Dominique for even having MATE! HAHA. LOVED IT! MARINA

Me and my wife spent two nights in this nice B&B. Our cottage was nice and clean. Dominique and her employees were always nice, friendly and helped us whenever we had some questions. All in all the Secret Garden was a perfect place to stay for a couple of nights. If you would like to stay here for a longer time (more than 3 nights) I would recommend to take one of the bigger cottages.

Everything was wonderful! The coffee and baked goodies were delicious! We stayed in the Whipporville and it was a treat! I enjoyed the old school bath tub and the lounge chair! The bed was a bit to hard though :( The owner and staff were friendly and answered our many questions! The best part was the glass of Cab every night! I'd go there again :)

Our initial impression of Secret Gardens wasn't outstanding as we crept into our bedroom in the main house late in the evening in the dark. But upon waking to a gourmet breakfast, and taking advantage of the beautiful garden and patio under a huge persimmon tree, our impressions changed significantly! In addition to the outdoor relaxation space, there are two large common-space rooms in the house to take advantage of. The property is a rather unique layout for an in-town B&B, with multiple cottages. The only change we'll make next time is to book a cottage room which has more privacy.

Dominique was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Besides the delicious breakfast, there was also wine and cheese at night and a bedtime snack. I found Secret Garden on Google, wasn't sure what to expect, but it was such a delightful find. The room was cozy and very clean, all the amenities one would want including a fan (it was hot when we were there), small room heat, hair dryer, you name it, we didn't want for a thing. The garden seating area is so beautiful and delightful. The innkeeper could not have been nicer and more accommodating. The breakfasts were inventive and quite delicious, down to her homemade jam. You really cannot go wrong with the Secret Garden and no doubt you will want to linger in the garden seating area as we did each morning with coffee and paper. I think the price was really good, especially considering the morning breakfasts, late afternoon cheese and wine, and late evening hot cider and homemade cookies!
4.8 on September 16, 2012
It was a wonderful place. The breakfasts were AMAZING and the whole atmosphere was very friendly. It was not close to the beach so expect to drive or have a long leisurely walk. But we liked that because it seemed less touristy and noisy and much more relaxing.

Stayed in the Whippoorwill room. The back rooms are located near the small side parking lot and an alley. Offers a full library of local tourism and dining options. The breakfast was good ... and the evening wine and snacks, fine. It is decorated simply with average quality, grandma-esque furnishings. Many hand painted pieces created by the French owner Dominique grace the walls throughout. Based on other reviews about the bedding, I did bring my own blanket and pillow, but for the price, it was fine (although expectations of a B&B should include a very comfortable bed with high thread count, I do believe). My daughter sat down and said "this feels like a hospital bed," and since the sheets were stamped with blue letters "medical" she was absolutely correct. The grounds are very pretty and the location is up a few blocks from State Street in a residential area.

It was wonderful! My wife & I were there for my 50th High School Reunion. We stayed in the Woodthrush cottage. It was eveything we expected. The innkeeper attended to our every need, including when I inadvertently locked us out of our cottage. Even though, in my opinion the facility was slightly overpriced, it was a wonderful experience and will stay there again.

We stayed for two nights at the Secret Garden B&B. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in, the Kingfisher, was wonderful, but we came during a very hot period and the room did not have air conditioning so it was a bit hot. The morning breakfasts were far beyond my expectations. I would definitely recommend staying here.

I have stayed at The Secret Garden many times, and will stay again. Unfortunately, I have seen a decline in the overall quality of the stay...The breakfast options are limited, the wine and cheese hour is severely downgraded and the new-ish prepay in full / no-refunds within 7 days of stay policy is draconian. Because of the cost value, the location, the individual cabins, and the quiet back courtyard area I will stay there again. However, because of the overall decline, I hope this review helps the owners pick up their service again.

We recently stayed in Nightingale, the most expensive unit. The front and back doors both stuck so much that we worried about breaking the glass panels when we had to open them. There was additional evidence of foundation issues throughout the unit. The windows in the bedroom would not stay open to allow fresh air. The bed was very hard. The water temperature fluctuated continually while showering. We were limited to 1 glass of wine each during the afternoon social gathering and the spinach egg casserole in the morning was watery and poorly prepared. When we mentioned the doors to the owner she was defensive and telling us they had tried to repair the sticking doors but there were foundation issues in the unit that caused a continuing problem. We have a rather long list of places we return to often and this will not be one of them.

Hospitality and the morning breakfast were great as was location, but the beds in the Cardinal room were disappointing for comfort and quality - didn't provide a good night's sleep in an otherwise comfortable place.
4.8 on July 25, 2012
If your looking for a secluded place in a quiet neigborhood in a big city this is it. The room was carming with a very private patio w/hottub. The beds were very comfortable and the grounds were immaculate. The service was top notch from the check-in to the wine in the afternoon , the brownies at night and the breakfast in the morning. Comparing the price to other Santa Barbara B & D's or hotels this place is a bargain. Will be back again. Thanks to the staff for a very relaxing peacefull anniversary.

This was our first time at a B&B in 'our home country.' The place is full of old world charm, neat and clean, and we are looking forward to staying there again! The food & amenities were outstanding. In addition we were lucky to have arrived on an afternoon & evening when there was a pianist, singers, and some other French (or French speaking) participants in the lovely living and dining area!

The lady who runs the business was nice. Overall it was a high quality average place to stay. The distance from the main street or beach was a little too much.

We booked this place online for our 23rd Anniversary and my 45th birthday. We loved the value and the pictures and description seemed wonderful --- but that was online.... In trying to find the place, we were in the heart of the residential area and wondered how could such a getaway exist here??? Don't get me wrong, the homes were beautiful, but when we pulled into the back alley for parking, we were taken aback. It was MORE than the online pictures and description! BEAUTIFUL!! And the food was wonderful! We enjoyed ourselves so very much and highly recommend this to everyone thinking of staying at a B&B. We were treated so very kind by everyone that worked there. Do not hesitate to book your stay there. Enjoy!

The Secret Garden is a very pleasant B & B. The gardens are lush and charming just as you would expect in Santa Barbara. My husband and I were visiting for a family birthday and really enjoyed the quiet time away in our own little "home away from home." Monique was extremely friendly and her staff was pleasant and capable. The breakfasts were very good and the brownies and chocolates at night were a sweet treat to look forward to. We were in the smallest room and there was barely room for our dog and us to turn around. The footed tub had no plug so a bath was not possible, the shower ran warm and suddenly ice cold intermittently. Private hot tub on the patio was a great addition. It was dog friendly, however dogs were not allowed in the garden or on the patio when food was served, rather a surprise as there are many dog friendly patios in Santa Barbara.
Thank you for your comment, no need for a plug in the bathroom, there is this device below the spout you lift , you probably did not see it. If dogs are allowed on a patio where food is served in Santa Barbara, disposable plates and silverware should be used ..that would not be fair to guests who do not have dogs...

stayed for 1 night at the Kingfisher Bungalow (private hot-tub was just what was needed after a long days drive and travelling). Pete the Innkeeper was warm and welcoming, as was Dominique the owner. Warm cider and brownies on the evening, and the breakfast the following morning were fantastic. It would have been nice to be able to make coffee in our room, but this was just a minir point and didnt detract from our stay. If we were travelling the west Coast in the future we would definately return to the Secret Garden, and would recommend it to others. Alan and Angela Prosser (UK)

There are a lot of good things about this place. My husband and I stayed in the Meadowlark room in the main house; it was right next to the front door so I feared it would be noisy but the guests here were all pretty courteous, so noise was not a problem. The room was very light & bright and clean. I appreciated the glass bottle of water that we got, as well as the tea and desserts set out in the evening. The neighborhood is really cute; you can walk up to a coffee shop and kind of feel like you're temporarily living in Santa Barbara. The pricing is pretty decent for what you get. The breakfast was fantastic-an egg casserole, nice fruit & yogurt salad, lots of teas to choose from, and good breads. Where this place loses the stars is the bed. It was horrendously hard; felt like we were sleeping on the floor. We both woke up throughout the night because it was so uncomfortable. There appeared to be a mattress top that had been put on for cushioning but it was also worn out. Everything else was good but since the BED is a big part of a bed & breakfast I have to give a lower score. There's just no excuse for a crappy bed that messes up your back.
I am sorry you found the bed too hard , and the " Cuddlebed " put on top of the mattress did not help.

Our first two days in Santa Barbara we stayed at another B&B due to there being no room available at Secret Garden. When we finally came to the Garden we were reminded of how special it is. The room was clean and nicely decorated. The breakfast was great with attentive service. The Inn is a bargain , while you feel it's a special place. We love the Secret Garden and will return.

My wife and I enjoyed our first anniversary at the secret garden. The entire experience left us planning our next trip to this wonderful B&B. The house is a quaint old house and the rooms are decorated per the 'theme' of the room. We stayed in the Bobwhite room mainly because my wife loves green. I lucked out because she adored the room, decorations and the claw foot tub. The hostess was attentive and the staff was helpful of anything we needed. The morning dishes were delicious and the freshly baked croissants were wonderful. In.the evening the cheese and wines were also delicious even if I'm not much of a wine drinker myself. The blue cheese were ever the got it was sublime. If I had any critism it would be that the bed was rough on our backs by the morning. But I have lower back problems and am picky in this area. Overall the short stay was just what we needed and will recommend, wholly, the secret garden to our friends and family and look forward to being guests again.

We were in town for a concert at the Bowl and found the Secret Garden Inn to be a very nice and reasonably priced place to stay for one evening. Our room, Meadowlark, was in the main house. It was comfortable, clean, and quiet. The Inn's location was a mere 5 minuntes away from the Bowl, and so convenient to State Street. Dominique, the innkeeper/owner, runs a very homey, peaceful retreat from city life (although you'd never suspect it is so close to downtown SB). A quick walk and you have your choice of noisy racous bars to wonderful steak houses-your choice. The grounds are exactly what they say-Gardens of trees, flowers and scents of jasmine. The patio area is tailor made for peaceful long breakfasts & the daily wine & cheese hour. The beds are wonderfully comfy and included in my room was a gas fireplace. There is a little "living room" on the way to the patio containing the TV, the closet, the fridge, a couch , so the sleeping area is just that-for sleeping. The highlight of the room was, of course, the hot tub on my patio. What an extra added bonus!! Try ignoring that temptation. Breakfasts are homemade-quiche, omelets. The extras are chosen with care and it shows. Wonderful breads,, croissants, jams, fresh fruit and the usual juice and really really good coffee, I was truly surprised that when I said I was staying at the Secret Garden that no one knew of it. Well, they all know NOW. I almost hate to tell too many about it because it is such a special place, I want to keep it to myself .But then everyone should at least have the opportunity to take a couple of days to slow down & enjoy. I had a wonderful two days and look forward to returning. Ronni Hinchman Anaheim, CA

Although, the rooms are unique in its artistic way, it is very comfortable and cozy. My stay would be even more enjoyable if the rooms were modernized and up-to-date.

We were so surprised by this little treasure! Such a beautiful layout with beautiful gardens and cottages. The private spa and deck were great vacation perks along with the great treats (wine and cheese and desserts) and home-made breakfast every morning. Cannot wait to return!

Well Secret Garden is a really cute and relaxing place to R&R for a couple of days, close to State Street Shopping/Parks and Beaches. We had a great time and the owner was really nice, yummy breakfast and brownies in the evening....We'll be back!

Situated within easy walking distance to many restaurants. Very comfortable, lovely and obliging owner and staff. Dominique, the owner, is a great cook and made very interesting delicious breakfasts and wonderful brownies for a bedtime snack. The 5-6pm wine and cheese hour was very pleasant before going out to dinner and is a great time to get together with fellow travelers and visitors. The rooms are equipped with all the necessary requirements and the garden setting is lovely. We stayed in the Mockingbird room and found it to be very quiet. All in all, a beautiful environment, a little like a home away from home where everyone is made to feel very welcome. Thank you for the lovely stay. Greg and Leslee-Anne

I'm been trying to get here for two years; broke my ankle with a long recovery and finally arrived for a much-needed weekend away. After all that time, you think I would have high expectations. And Secret Garden did not disappoint. First of all, I couldn't believe the amount of food we got. A HUGE breakfast (Sunday was omelettes any way we liked them, poached pears, a galette and some other sort of pastry), wine and cheese at 5pm, and brownies, chocolates and hot cider left out at night. I stayed in the main house and it was lovely. My room was spacious with a window seat and morning sun; I came to write and shop so this was perfect. Very quiet, lots of off-street parking, and help in negotiating Santa Barbara. I'm definitely coming back!

My husband and I decided on a spontaneous get-away for our anniversary in Santa Barbara. Just one day before we decided to go, I went on line, found the Secret Garden Inn, read the reviews and booked it. While we only stayed overnight, we had a wonderful experience. Domonique, the proprietore, was warm and welcoming and most helpful with suggestions for the short time we had to spend in Santa Barbara. The rooms was quaint, clean and very accommodating. Breakfast was delicious. The cost of our stay was extremely reasonable. We will definitely stay there again the next time we are planning a get-away to this wonderful city!

This stay was amazing. Dominique is just great at customer service and I love the rooms. We would recommend this place to anyone who wants a quiet, romantic and peaceful getaway. We only had planned to stay one night but we ended up staying two because we couldn't leave. The breakfast was great, the wine and snacks at 5pm were amazing and the whole experience was nothing short of amazing.

the only inconvenience is that they are very strict about dogs on the furniture. our pooch just happens to sleep in bed with us and it was inconvenient for him because it was cold and there were no extra blankets or what not for him to sleep in. otherwise, good stay.

very nice secluded room with private hot tub under the stars and even the dog was welcome

We've stayed here several times, and the breakfasts just keep getting better! Each cottage or room has its own character -- some aren't fancy but they're all clean, comfortably furnished and cozy, and let you feel you're on holiday, not a business trip. The gardens themselves give a spacious, peaceful setting and view from the windows. You could never guess it's only 4 blocks from the freeway!

Friendly reception, wine and cheese, very helpful with reservation of a restauration, very nice and homemade breakfast. Internet was really good - i.e. fast. - But still we found it too expensive, compared to what we could get cheaper at a hotel. Karsten Bonsdorf, Denmark.

Cottages are very private. Neighborhood is residential and quiet. Prices are lower than most hotels and motels, and you get breakfast, wine and appetizers, and cookies and cider. Breakfasts were different versions of baked egg dishes plus bagels, croissants, and/or cake - OK, but not as good as the B&Bs where I have stayed (mostly in Sonoma county). Bottles of water in the frig to take to your room. TV was small, but I usually don't want/expect a TV at a B&B.

Well situated, original lay-out with cottages......somewhat old / well kept but rooms small and not comfortable for a long stay(4 nights) Management/owener very friendly and accommodating/ too expensive for what is offered......perhaps due to the pricing in Santa Barbara in general!!!!

We had an extremely fun and romantic weekend at the Secret Garden. The hosts were fantastic and provided a great breakfast as well as great reccomendations for wine tasting in the Santa Ynez Valley. The location was quiet and while we shared a duplex with another couple we never heard them (likely not the same story from them...). We were a few blocks off State Street and had wonderful walks through the neighborhood to and from dinner each night. I look forward to staying again.

This was a great little place to stay on a recent weekend trip to Santa Barbara. The service had an elegance (the cold water we were offered on our arrival came in a beautiful glass bottle with crystal glasses, for instance). The garden courtyard was a nice setting for breakfast, which was wonderful. The scones were fabulous!

We stayed in two different rooms and did not like the more expensive one for it had no character and was abit shabby. The second room was colorful and happy room and we liked it alot more. The food is good and the service was good. We do think the Secret Garden has seen better days and is over priced.
The first cottage you stayed in is a cottage with a private deck and jaccuzzi , that is why it is more expensive than the other ones.

I found this on the web and booked it for location as we were going to a wedding in town. I found it charming, very good location to the downtown area, and reasonably priced. Though not large the room was comfortable and very clean. The breakfast was a nice plus. Would definitely stay here again or tell friends about it.

Even though it is located on an urban residential street in Santa Barbara, this B&B had the feel of a home in the South of France. The hosts were lovely and the food was excellent and accommodated our diet needs. Not the right choice if you want resort-type luxury, this inn has a homey, authentic, artistic atmosphere. We just loved it.

Secret Garden Inn and Cottages is centrally located in Santa Barbara. Set well back from the street and surrounded by greenery, it's quiet and charming. The breakfasts were all delicious and generous. I stayed in the main house in the Bobwhite room, which was spacious yet cozy. I loved the clawfoot tub with modern shower fixtures. The toilet could be replaced by a newer style, but it worked. The only thing I didn't care for was the skeleton key. I'm not crazy about them -- I frequently struggled with locking and unlocking the door to my room. Replacing the lock with a regular deadbolt and key would be a plus. Regardless, on my next visit to Santa Barbara, I would stay at Secret Garden again in a heartbeat.

This was our 3rd visit to the Secret Garden. We enjoy the setting and privacy. This time, however, we were disappointed in the meals. Breakfast consisted of an egg casserole type dish plus assortment of rolls, usually some fruit. We've liked their afternoon wine and cheese affair but now you're limited to a half glass of wine and the same 3 cheese assortment every day (we stayed 4 nights). They provide a nighttime snack, which is a nice offering--apple cider, tea or hot cocoa--and brownies. My only complaint with that is that is was brownies every night (no variety).

As an historical B&B, this is a real gem. The rooms are individually layed out and all have their charm because the design, gardens and the spacing nicely done. People are nice and friendly also it's located in a quieter part of town. Highly recommended for the value.

We decided on the Secret Garden Inn after glowing reviews from previous guests and we were glad we did. We selected the Garden Room but when we arrived, it wasn't completely ready. Dominique graciously offered to upgrade us to a suite but we didn't mind waiting and preferred the Garden Room. It's a lovely room and the most secluded. We loved it! Very romantic, very "french cottage". The bed was comfortable and we loved the natural light from the skylight. The garden was a bit barren but it had its' own charm. Breakfast was delightful although we aren't big fans of quiche. The homemade jams were outstanding! I wish Dominique would sell them to guests. Her homemade banana bread was perfectly moist and flavorful. The evening wine and cheese reception was ok but the brownies and cookies with apple cider and hot chocolate were superb! It was nice to return to our room late at night and still be able to enjoy a sweet treat. In fact, I was so spoiled that when we returned home, I was craving a brownie before bedtime! The Inn is in a great location. We walked to the Santa Barbara Mission and while you aren't within walking distance to lower State Street, you are within walking distance to several shops and cafes. Merci Dominique! We had a lovely weekend and hope to return soon.

We pulled up out front of the Secret Garden after a long drive. Our GPS guided us to the front door, where a police car was responding to a nearby issue. I thought, "This doesn't bode well." It was pure coincidence. The Secret Garden Inn and Cottages was our wonderful surprise on this vacation. For what we had paid to stay in a pretty dismal Best Western in Santa Rosa, our room fee allowed to stay in a wonderful compound full of fun and interesting people. Behind the main home are several cottages, one of which we stayed in. Very private, everything you need, in a garden setting. They had wine tasting with cheese when we arrived, which gave us a chance to meet the other travelers. Enjoyed a great night of sleep in the comfortable bed and sat out in the garden and enjoyed an individually prepared breakfast the next morning. The family that runs the home, along with several guests, spoke French and it was if we had been transported to Europe. They had wifi, which allowed me to get some work out of the way and if there was any drawback, it was the squeaky floors. I mean take a step and everyone knows. Call it "character" and our stay was perfect.

We had the comfort and pleasure of staying at the Secret Garden Inn for the weekend mid July. We are a young couple who came to SB for the weekend looking for affordable weekend rates and a good location near State St that did not fit into your standard Best Western mold. We succeeded! We stayed in the Garden Room which was lovely. It was comfortable and had a private gate & yard to enjoy. A warm & friendly staff serving wine & cheese in the evening allowing us to mingle with the fellow guests, and their dogs! A healthy breakfast (veg friendly) was provided on the outdoor patio which was simply picturesque. No more than a 5 min cab ride to the SB Bowl and just a few blocks away from State Street - if you like walking, its a nice stroll through the neighborhood. Fresh baked cookies & private parking were an added bonus. If looking for a relaxing getaway that feels like nowhere in Southern California, come here. We will be back!

Such a pretty place to stay. We had our own private garden with a table, chairs and lounge bench. THe room was beautiful with a comfortable bed, and breakfast was delicious. This is also easy walking distance to State Street, the beach, and Santa Barbara Bowl. We had a wonderful overnight stay.

We stayed one night at this beautiful B & B in a residential neighborhood in Santa Barbara. The room itself was very clean and comfortable, but a bit too close to the kitchen. I would try to get a cottage rather than Bob White or Meadowlark if you like privacy. The breakfast was delicious (especially the home-made jam), and the wine and hors d'oeuvres were nice. The other couples staying there were fun to talk to.
5 on July 15, 2011
We loved staying at the Secret Garden Inn and Cottages. The accommodation was perfect for us and our dog. The garden patio was magical. Delicious breakfast; cheese and wine at 5 p.m.; and dessert and hot drinks at 7 p.m. I mean, how spoiled can we get?! It's very conveniently located. McConnel's Ice Cream right across the street :) The room was immaculate and also loved their glycerine soap. Cant' wait to return.

Secret Garden Inn and Cottages were an excellent Bed and Breakfast. The innkeeper and her staff were pleasant, friendly, and went above and beyond to make myself and my guest feel at home. Our only issue was that the key to lock our bedroom door was finicky, and it was hard to get our bedroom door locked. Otherwise, it was great! It was also great to have our own bathroom in our room, and such a great breakfast spread.
3.2 on July 12, 2011
Our stay was ok...just ok. We had 2 spiders in our bathroom and a toilet that wouldn't drain. The toilet was remedied by us with a plunger after calling the innkeeper late at night to find out if and where there was a plunger...(there was one in the laundry room). The spiders were relocated to the garden. The breakfast consisted of coffee, cut fruit, croissants, and a broccoli quiche that was just way too broccoli. Overall, not a bad experience but not a good one either. This being our first time in a bed-&-breakfast and after looking at rates for other B&B's, this place is really inexpensive so maybe this is about right for the price.

My wife and I both enjoyed our stay at Secret Garden very much. We found Dominique to be very freindly and helpful offering suggestions as what to see and do in Santa Barbara. She put out quite an array of food in the afternoon for her guests which was over the top good. Breakfast was excellent and our room very nice. I'd suggest her B&B to anyone who wants to stay in the Santa Barbara area. Price was a bit much, but after all it's Santa Barbara so you get what you pay for. Excellent!

The food and brownies were dee-licious!! Yum, the breakfast is worth it BUT the room we stayed in was right off the dining room so it was really noisy in the morning, couldn't sleep in. So if you're an early bird then go for it if not spend extra for the cottages in the back.

We found Secret Garden to be everything that it claimed to be on the Airbnb website. The host and staff were helpful, polite and welcoming. We found the accommodation to be clean, comfortable and well-appointed. It was located within easy walking distance of downtown Santa Barbara. The only disappointment we experienced was that the internet would not operate efficiently within our particular cottage although we could access it from the garden area.

This a a quaint hidden gem in the middle of Santa Barbara. Dominque is a great hostess. The breakfast was great, as was the wine and cheese in the late afternoon. Unfortunately we missed the late evening's brownies and hot drinks, but i'm sure they were good too. The rooms are basic, kind of like staying at grandma's house, but very clean and homey. We were upgraded to a duplex cottage, which was good and bad, becaues our only complaint, with our stay is that the rooms are not very soundproof. The first night no one was in the other duplex room, but the 2nd morning we were awaken by the other duplex's water running in the sink and shower. It was quite loud. We were also awaken by birds at daybreak, which if you are an early riser would be great, but we heard an obnoxious Mockingbird, and ironically we stayed in the " Mockingbird" room. (all rooms are bird names). If you stay in a stand olone cottage noise would be a lesser issue. Overall though we enjoyed our stay, it was only 3 blocks form our son's apartment, and only a block from McConnel's yogurt and ice cream, a must visit for a great dessert. We would stay here again, thanks.

This b&b is arranged as small cottages on the property with the main house. The privacy is charming, but the room was a bit rustic. Our heat did not work and the weather was surprisingly cool so we wer a bit uncomfortable. The clutter of art and antiques in the main house was interesting, but not especially welcoming. The best part of the stay was the amazing breakfasts- fabulous fresh croissants, scones, and muffins along with an intestine gourmet quiche each day.

The Inn of the Secret Garden is a charming retreat from the bustle of State Street, and Dominique's hospitality is superb. The rooms are charming, comfortable, and spotlessly clean--no TVs, so the only sounds we heard were birdsong in the morning. Dominique went above and beyond, even managing to accommodate our last minute addition of a third person. The free parking is a nice bonus. We can't wait to come back!

My husband has messed up my birthday the past several years. In an effort to redeem himself, he planned a surprise trip (all by himself) to Santa Barbara - a place I had been wanting to visit. Being a cost-effective couple, he wanted to find a place that was be comfortable without being costly. After researching various places online, he settled on The Secret Garden. I could tell as we pulled up that he was nervous. Booking site-unseen while trying to make up for forgotten birthdays can be stressful. But as we approached the front entrance, he was able to relax. The Secret Garden was exactly what he was hoping it would be. The rooms are small and cozy. Our room had a TV with a DVD player in it and was perfect for watching movies on the one rainy night we were there. The bed was comfortable (and I am eight months pregnant). The room was clean and, for the most part, quiet. The main house is beautiful. And breakfast was delicious both mornings. We also enjoyed the wine and cheese hour as well as the brownies that were waiting every evening as a goodnight treat. We loved the location. Close enough to walk to the action on State Street, yet far enough removed that we honestly felt like we were in a little "secret" place. If there was any complaint it would be that we could hear the people in the room next to us from time to time -- however, that is true MOST places you stay. In the end, we were sad to leave but are excited that now, anytime we want to travel to beautiful Santa Barbara, we have a place where we a comfortable - both in the rooms and in the price. My husband said that the images and reviews online didn't do the place justice -- so I hope, if you are considering booking here, this review is helpful and that you enjoy it as much as we did.

We stayed 2 nights and wish we could have stayed a week. The Wood Thrush room was great. Especially liked the private deck with a hot tub. Breakfasts was wonderful! the homemade scones and other baked goods were amazing! Dominique made our stay memorable and we will be back.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay and appreciated everything, we look forward to seeing you again.

The hospitality was great, our favorite part was that you can bring your pets if you get one of the cottages with private gardens. They gave us an extra sheet for the bed, in case you werent able to keep the dogs off. We don't spend too much time in our rooms when we travel, but it was a great place to come back to after a long day of hiking or going to the dog beach!

One of the nice things about B&B's is the breakfast included in the deal. I don't remember ever seeing such a disgusting looking breakfast. The inkeeper (owner) and her kitchen assistant couldn't even agree on what it was. One called the dish a quiche, the other a casserole. I called it a plate of awfulness. Also, the area rug in the room had seen better days. I'm all for quaint little places, but quaint should not equate to not maintaining the place. The door stuck to the frame and could barely be closed. Secret Garden needs a little upgrading!
It seems a little strong , we are always happy to offer an alternative and cook an omelette, or scrambled eggs if you don't like the casserole served.

Our cottage was comfortable, we got the feeling that money was tight by the amenities in the room, the main house was very cluttered and the food was good but very haphazard in presentation and not presented in an appetizing manner, very different from any other B and B we have visited. Our hostess was very friendly and helpful. The wine and appetizers in the afternoon were good but again presented in a very casual way. We would not go back to this one.

The Secret Garden will not be a secret for very much longer given its value and outstanding service. Everything from the condition of the room, convenient walking distance from State St. and the Santa Barbara Mission, and the superb breakfast make this a one of a kind experience. The little touches of having snacks available for late check-in as well as motion-sensor lighting that light your path to your cottage make it even better. Dominique was wonderful and added a wonderful personality to the experience. My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary here and we could not have been more pleased. Looking forward to coming back for our 50th! Guy & Leslie Greensboro, NC
Thank you for your kind words.

It was good, not great. I stayed Kingfisher, the bed takes up most of the room but a big bathroom and mini fridge. It had a large wood deck with a nice sized hot tub, so that was definitely the highlight. I thought the food was good, not something I would cook or order on my own but still delicious.

I liked the room and the grounds. I was very content with the entire experience and most of all I could bring my dog which is exactly what I was looking for.

The Breakfast was exquisite. The hospitality is outstanding. Along the lines of a vegetarian menu, but the food was incredible. Almost makes me want to become a vegetarian. The room was immaculate. The sounds from the outside room were audible, although this is expected in a residence such as this. I would recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a great place to rest and have one of the best breakfasts you can imagine.

I visited the Secret Garden Inn and Cottages in winter with rain. The garden looked pretty and would certainly be gorgeous in spring and summer. The breakfast was delicious however it had very few options or variety and did not include fresh fruit. From the website I was expecting a number of choices of French pastries and there were only croissants available each morning. Overall it was great value for money, the room was very clean and the feel was more rustic than antique but very comfortable and the staff were kind and friendly. I highly recommend the Secret Garden Inn and Cottages.

Very nice quaint little place. Rooms were small, I was by myself so it was fine, but with another person it would have been very crowded. I tend to eat early so the 8:30 to 10:00 breakfast was a bit inconvienient. Dogs were welcome and I never heard any barking or anything. I would go back if I could eat earlier!

Stayed in 1/2 of a cottage and it was lovely. Great hot shower, fluffy towels, breakfast buffet of unusual delights, wine and cheese in evening and very friendly staff. Quiet and green, a nice escape. A special treat for francophones/philes.

The Mockingbird Room was comfortable and pleasant. The bed was very comfortable. The heater worked well but made a buzzing noise all night. Breakfast in the morning was convenient in the dining area with the variety of foods to choose from. Looking forward to coming back!

Outstanding food !!!! Rooms are older and could use refreshing - quaint doesn't work here. It was cold during our stay and the room took forever to get warm. It is expensive for what you get.
2.8 on November 27, 2010
Wonderful breakfast, charming concept but nothing has changed in the decade since we first stayed. It is time to repair creaky floors, replace worn furnishings, add door knobs, and install some soundproofing between cottages so that one isn’t startled awake when the neighbor showeres at 0600!

This is a pleasant B&B in a good Santa Barbara location. We had the Garden room, which has a great private yard to enjoy the evening snacks they provide or just read a book in the sun. The room did the trick -- cute, but not fancy, with an ok for a night or two bed. The food was tasty with homemade baked goods and hummus. The staff was adequate -- not warm and fuzzy, but that wasn't necessary. We would give it more stars for value if it were $25 or $50 bucks less per night.
4.8 on November 03, 2010
Really enjoyed our stay in one of the cottages. We sat outside in the garden with our bottle of wine - very private. The owner was very gracious as well as her staff. I even made the reservation on the wrong day of the week and she let me change it without a charge. Our cottage had a spa so we wheeled the TV over and watched the Giants beat the Phillies from out hot tub on the deck!!!

My wife and I just got back from SB, staying at The Secret Garden for three days. We found this B&B from the Internet by its pics and some of the reviews. Everything that you've read and heard about this eloquent rustic French garden is true and MORE! We fell in love with its charm, location (near everything including D/T State street), food, and the hospitality of Madam Dominique Hannaux and her assistant. I still can smell the aroma of the morning chocolate croissants, afternoon wine and the variety of cheese presented every evening. Thank you for a wonderful time and we will back soon.

Dominique is a perfect host. She paid attention to each and every request and gave personal service that was better than I've had in other B&B's. The garden setting for breakfast was so peaceful and the food delectable. The afternoon wine and cheese was a special touch.
Thank you for your nice comment, we hope to see you again.

The photos and writeups on the Secret Garden are true... We found Dominque and her staff to be delightful. I had a chance to "check out the other rooms" as we definately want to return and could very well bring our extended family. The Inn and cottages are in very close walking distance to State Street. Oh! and offstreet parking was a real plus. Thank you for a lovely stay.

we were there this past weekend and had a wonderful time.the secret garden was beautiful, great food and nice room.the service was unbeatable.the owner was warm.everybody there was so welcoming.especially a young man innkeeper there was really nice and helpful, from the moment we got there he was helping us with the luggages to the cottages and brought us cold water bottle, explained the sight and route how and where to go,recommended us the great restaurant had a wonderful dinner.the next morning he greeted us and introduced us the fabulous breakfast, and kept serving us coffee and getting the plates after we were done, and helped us with the map where to go shopping specifically.i think this is the best service we have ever had after having been to so many bed and breakfast.and every inn should have a great innkeeper like that to make everyone's staying total satisfying.even i can't remember his name, but i have to say thank you.you did a great job!and we'll definitely come back.

As a teacher, I am limited to when I can vacation. In a last ditch effort to actually vacation, I searched the web and found The Secret Garden. I could count the days until I arrived. I took my dog with me. The day came and we arrived. It was a lovely place. We were in the Garden cottage. At first, I thought it was a bit small. In the end it was just right. Hermione and I enjoyed our time. The food was good and the grounds lovely. The staff was welcoming. I love the tradition of the journals in the cottage to share with others about your visit. I will visit another B&B in the furture.

My wife and I spent the weekend at the Secret Garden Inn to celebrate her birthday and had an wonderful time. Dominique, the inn keeper, and her engaging staff, do a great job of making you feel at home, and the morning breakfast in the garden was fantastic. If you're a bird lover, you'll enjoy hummingbirds, mockingbirds, jays, warblers, and acorn woodpeckers as you sip your coffee in the sunlight. We enjoyed our private spa and the cozy accommodations, and left the car in the parking lot and walked everywhere we wanted to go in Santa Barbara. If you're looking for a low-key, cozy, friendly, warm, and relaxing get-away, this is your place. We'll definitely be back again and again.

The cottage was spacious, clean, and well maintained. The garden area and parking were great. The wine and cheese in the evening was plentiful. The proprietor/hostess was knowlegeable and friendly. My husband and I stayed here for our 8th year anniversary. Dominique was very helpful with restaurant suggestions and places to see. The breakfasts were outstanding, we particularly enjoyed the french toast and claoufuti both were delicious! What impressed us the most was Dominique's warmth and genuine interest in our being comfortable, a very lovely lady. Despite inclement weather we were able to enjoy the outside patio during dry spells, it felt secluded and relaxing. It was very nice to have private parking off the street too. We will definitely be recommending this place to friends and family. This is a great B&B with French flair.

Not only was the Secret Garden Inn & Cottages in Santa Barbara, CA a relaxing peaceful getaway for my boyfriend and I during a birthday weekend, it was also a great place for our dogs. If you have two large dogs, as we do, finding a place to stay while traveling with them is always difficult. The Secret Garden accommodated our needs, and the private outdoor patio and hot-tub attached our room made it seem so much more spacious than an ordinary hotel room. The setting within Santa Barbara was also great as it was close to everything we wanted to do around town. Although we never made it to the wine & cheese hour, breakfast on the patio was the peaceful end to our trip we needed before we got back on the road to head home. I would definately go back again and rates are great during the off-season.

We had a wonderful time spending our first anniversary weekend at the Secret Garden. The breakfasts were simple, but really good, the staff was hospitable and friendly and down to earth and the room was on the small side, but pleasant. First time at a B&B. My wife really loved it which was my main concern when booking it for her B-day. The Cardinal room is great with its separate sitting room and deck overlooking the main rear garden. The breakfasts were great with a homemade main dish. The afternoon and evening snacks hit the spot. The innkeeper and her staff are very pleasant and helpful. Easy access to all that Santa Barbara has to offer. The place could use a great handyman to keep it a bit sharper due to its age. Would return with few reservations.

This moderately priced B&B is conveniently located near down town Santa Barbara (walking distance for those of us used to walking a mile or two). The staff was friendly and helpful and the rooms were satisfactory, albeit not large. The best part by far was the incredible food! The French chef is a true gourmet whose culinary creations are the highlight of breakfast, which is often held on the patio in the morning sun. I went based on the Internet photos. The property is not well maintained, the room that we stayed in had a window unit a/c that I (asked for) did not operate well at all, hence little sleep. I feel this property is VERY VERY OVERATED. Even at a third of the price I would never return. In a nutshell the humming bird room was like sleeping in someones modified garage.

This B&B has a beuatiful garden, and it looks very cute and quaint. The cottage rooms and main house were filled with antiques and period details. The Inn Keeper was a bit eccentric, but she was passionate about the business. Going into our room, it was well put together, but all the window screens had holes in them. The provided air conditioner was attached to an outlet that did not work. To make matters worse, the door had been left open before our arrival and there were some spiders and mosquitos.

Cozy cottages decorated with French charm and elegance, uncluttered and gracious. Speaking of gracious, innkeeper Dominique personifies it! Great location on a quiet residential street, and most rooms open to the eponymous garden patio. Excellent value in pricy SB too.
