Our first time in Mendocino and it was amazing. The staff at the Sea Gull Inn provided so many options of what to do, where to go and what to see. Our entire weekend was planned in minutes. The food recommendations were perfect as well. The morning breakfast brought right to our door and it too was delicious.

Enjoyed a two night stay. Particularly appreciated a delicious gluten free breakfast. I highly recommend the Sea Gull Inn to Mendocino visitors.

My stay was lovely. The rooms were clean and charming. My shower was extremely small - not sure everyone would fit in it, but it was otherwise perfect. The staff was great and the breakfast delivered to the room was delicious and very filling. I would stay there again!

Jim and Ayla and their cat Sophie at the Sea Gull Inn are like family. We're always treated like royalty with their hospitality, breakfasts, and local guidance. We like the Lookout 2 room. I HIGHLY recommend a stay at the BEST B&B in Mendocino !

Comfortable bed, beautiful old garden and unbeatable location... But those muffins! Superb! A friendly, low key place to stay in Mendocino.

My boyfriend and I adored our time at The Sea Gull Inn. It was the perfect location in Mendocino- walking distance to everywhere, had the comfiest/coziest bed, and a delicious breakfast that was brought to us in the morning. I definitely recommend a stay here!

We stayed in a separate room with a loft for our friends. The owners have had the place for about 9 years but I hadnt been there for over 20. Its nice to see that things havent changed much and its comforting to see them as I remember them.

Enjoyed our two nights in Mendocino. We had a room with rockers on the porch outside, and spent our evenings and mornings there. Sophie, the cat, came to visit a few times - very friendly.

We were lucky enough to find the Sea Gull Inn with only one room left and with two beds which is exactly what we needed late afternoon! The host was accommodating and attentive to our needs. The room was quite comfortable and breakfast was outstanding!

The Sea Gull Inn is everything I love about Mendocino. It's an absolutely beautiful and historic place to stay - the room as well as the garden, with a view of the ocean from my window and deck. It's spotlessly clean, the decor is tranquil and inviting, and everyone was so pleasant and accommodating. A wonderful, rejuvenating stay.

Clean, comfortable, well-located B&B in Mendocino. Quick walk to virtually everything of interest. Tasty and healthy breakfast. Friendly kitty. Would definitely stay again and recommend highly to others. Larry Bethesda, Maryland

Small room, but lovely breakfast, particularly for me as a coeliac. Needs a kettle.

The garden was lovely and the host friendly and accommodating. I was particularly pleased that he provided a filling and interesting gluten free breakfast. The room was adequate, although it was slightly off putting to be told it was the smallest room. A kettle in the room would be a welcome addition. Kathy Tavistock, UK

Who raves about sheets! I do. They were heavenly and the staff delightful and inviting. A lovely stay in the wonderful town of Mendocino. The bed and breakfast is true to its title. Breakfast was brought to your bedroom. The organic pumpkin muffins were the size of a toddler's head. And to top it off, Mendocino has a fabulous shoe store. I wish there had been a Sea Gull Inn in all of our stops. Jane and Dorothy Holt

After much research, my family booked the entire Inn for their wedding. We all stayed for 4 days, 3 nights. There's beautiful gardens & quaint rooms, with each room having its own charm! Jim & Ayla were gracious & accommodating to put up with the many "special" requests -- needing info about the area & recommendations for places to go & things to do. We loved every minute of our trip. We recommend this Inn with 5 stars & look forward to going back. (I know they'll remember us!!)

We stayed in the Geranium room which was very spacious and comfortable. it was surrounded by beautiful gardens and had its own entrance. The owners were welcoming and helpful. Breakfast is delivered to your room each morning and was both delicious and filling. I would definitely recommend this bed and breakfast. The only dining at the Inn was at breakfast, but there are numerous restaurants just a block or two away.

My husband and I spent a night at the Sea Gull Inn to celebrate our anniversary. We stayed in the Shed room, which was very nice! Very clean and comfortable. We arrived late for check in due to traffic, and the hosts were very gracious in allowing us to take our time. Breakfast was brought to our room and was delicious! We will definitely be back next time we visit Mendocino.

Wonderful place in a great location in Mendocino Village. We particularly loved the gardens and the nice breakfast. Very helpful and friendly staff. Will definitely plan to visit again. "The Shed" was a very cute and fun place to stay. We would have liked the shed better if it had a little more space and some bedside tables. Overall, we had a great experience. Thanks much!

I stayed 2 nights in the cozy Sea Urchin Room, which was spotlessly clean and tastefully and comfortably furnished. Having breakfast delivered to my door was a treat, and I especially enjoyed the fresh fruit and yogurt and the delicious egg puff. Jim and Ayla are excellent innkeepers -- when I phoned to make a reservation, Ayla was so pleasant and helped me decide which room was best for me. When I arrived, she had a hiking map of the area ready for me, based on our phone conversation. The gardens are gorgeous, even if it was too windy to sit outside during my visit. Mendocino is lovely, and the Sea Gull Inn an ideal accommodation.

Stayed at the Sea Gull Inn for two nights. This historic B & B has many rooms to choose from and all are very clean, charming, and cosy. We started out on the second floor in the Abalone Room, which was comfortable and quiet, but due to some painting being done in the hallway, which created quite a pungent odor, the innkeeper, Ayla, offered to move us down to one of the first floor rooms at no extra charge the next night because we were the only guests staying there so early in the season. This was greatly appreciated and we chose the Lookout-Two Room just off the front garden. This turned out to be more spacious, with a larger bed, two armchairs, and a small desk where we could work. Breakfast consisted of tea and coffee, (huge) freshly baked muffins, fresh fruit, yogurt, and orange juice, all delivered to our door at the time of our choosing. The first morning we ate on the deck just next to the office and the beautiful front garden that was just perfect, as was Sophie, the resident inn-cat who joined us to lie in the sun while we ate and checked our email. Our second meal we took in our room because it was raining, but we had a wonderful view of the garden again, so that can't be beat. We will definitely keep The Sea Gull Inn in mind the next time we find ourselves in the neighborhood.

My wife Marilyn and I came up to Mendo to support a dear friend giving a class...we were extremely pleased with the comfort of the room we had and the breakfast was outstanding. But unfortunately, my wife has an artificial hip and knee and severe arthritis in the other knee so the stairs were an issue for us. Not having on site parking was a deciding factor for whether to come back here or not. Wonderful place and super hosts...highly recommended if you do not have the issues we are dealing with.

We had a most wonderful stay at the Sea Gull Inn when we were back in town after 25 years! Jim and Ayla are excellent hosts, and the room and grounds were very beautiful and relaxing. With perfect weather, we were able to have our fantastic breakfast on the deck by our room. This will be our home base for future coast visits

We has a Bed and Breakfast gift card and looked up lodgings in Mendocino that accepted it. We found the Seagull Inn and booked on line. It is a beautiful Inn with a tranquil garden and a great location for walking. Near to market, coffee shop, St. Anthony's Catholic Church, restaurants. Jim and Ayla were gracious hosts and provided an elegant breakfast served in the room. We stayed in the driftwood room which was comfortable with a fireplace which we used. The bathroom was excellent and well provided. We will stay here when we visit the North Coast again from our home in Texas.

On a trip down the coast I spent the night in the "Garden Shed" room. It was just as charming as described and shown on the Inn's website. Really wish I wasn't just passing through as I could easily have spent several more nights at the Seagull Inn. Breakfast was really nice as well. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again!

This is a charming and affordable B&B in the heart of Mendocino. My wife and I stayed for two nights, last week and 24 yrs. before that. The owners are sweet and helpful, there is a beautiful garden and cat, and it couldn't be in a better spot.

Upon arrival, Jim the owner was there to greet us, he was super nice, checked us in, gave us a map of the area & told us good places to eat :) .......then showed us to our room, which was the "shed".......looked exactly like the pictures online!!.....so CUTE!!! the bed was super comfortable and the bathroom was roomy......loved the fact that there was always a little shelf or a little table to set your necessities on :) They served a continental breakfast each morning and it was yummy!!!.....consisted of coffee, juice, warm homemade muffins, fresh fruit, & yogurt....all delicious!! They also provided umbrellas in the front office......for those of you who forgot to travel with an umbrella (which we did!!).... The Sea Gull Inn was perfect for us and we would definitely stay there again!!!

We enjoyed our stay at the Sea Gull Inn. Right in the center of town where you can walk to all kinds of restaurants and bars. Lovely staff and a sweet kitty named Sophie, who greets all the guests. We stayed in the room called the "shed". It was a bit smelly like moldy, musty but this could be due to it being attached to the laundry room. Would stay in a different room next time but will definitely return.

Great room with very little noise from upstairs guests. Comfortable bed, small bath with shower; had everything one needs for a hotel/B&B. Outstanding service from staff, who were able to get me an earlier breakfast due to an early checkout. I really appreciated that! Amazing breakfast: OJ, hot chocolate, fresh fruit and a large muffin with cream cheese.

The Sea Gull Inn couldn't be better situated. Park your car and forget it. Walk everywhere, views are spectacular. If you are looking for the typical Parlor type B&B where you gather for breakfast with others to share experiences the Sea Gull doesn't have that but your breakfast is served directly to your room.
4.8 on August 13, 2015
The bed was very comfortable, and the room was quiet. Each morning a delicious breakfast was brought to our door. The muffins were absolutely the best I've had, but the coffee was week. We stayed in Lookout one so we had a porch to sit and read on. It would have been nice to have a small blanket for the cool nights and mornings. Staff was excellent.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Sea Gull Inn for our first wedding anniversary. We stayed in the shad, and were very pleased with the room. We loved that it was a bit separate from the house to give a little privacy. We also loved the gardens, and took full advantage of them - enjoying a glass of wine out there at night was amazing! Breakfast was also delicious; we also enjoyed the garden during breakfast. It was awesome to have a home cooked pastry and fruit every morning - it was a great start to the day!

We enjoyed our stay in our little room in the shed. We were told it would have an "earthy" smell and I wonder if I'd have noticed if that suggestion hadn't been planted in my brain! The breakfast was simple but tasty, brought to our room. I actually would have preferred being able to have it delivered earlier than was allowed so we could head out and investigate the area, but we dealt fine with it. The people running the B&B were friendly when we encountered them, but of course it's not the sort of place where you sit around in a room together and chat. It's more of a private sort of stay place.
4.6 on July 25, 2015
We stated two nights and felt right at home. Comfortable room and excellent breakfasts, which we enjoyed on the porch. Laura, Jim and Ayla were exceptionally accommodating and helpful. Walking distance to anything you'd want to visit in the area. It was built some time ago and as has the feel of an old-world New England Inn. We'll stay there again next time we visit.

Just returned from a 2 night stay at the Seagull Inn, and, as usual, had a marvelous time. The room is lovely and affordable and perfectly situated on the edge of town. The owners - Jim and Ayla, are friendly and helpful, sharing information about what to see and where to eat. They serve a delicious breakfast at your room for no additional cost. The gardens at the Seagull are quite beautiful and a good place to sit and enjoy a good book or a quiet snooze. I think you'll find it as enjoyable a place to stay as we have for these many years. The atmosphere was quite peaceful and quaint. We enjoyed the beauty from our porch and the awesome scenery on the grounds. Just a short walk to the shops and the eateries The Mendocino Cafe right next door and Patterson's. Our favorite part was breakfast with a berry yogurt muffin and lots of good coffee. This stay far exceeded our expectations in every way. All I can say as the words of the governator "I'll be back".

The Sea Gull Inn was a great place to stay in Mendocino. The location is perfect. It is close to everything. It was relaxing and quiet. Breakfast was delicious and couldn't be more convenient served directly to the room. The only caveat is if you are looking for a B&B with common areas this would not be your place.
3.2 on March 08, 2015
Located right in town, it was a pleasant walk everywhere and any where you wanted to go. Our room, Outlook 1 - There was one hanger in the closet (for two people to share?). The bathroom was small with no shelving or place to put any toiletries except on the toilet seat. It was also a bit tatty. - dry rot, musty smell. Towels were like sandpaper. Shower stall was VERY small with no water pressure at all and the nozzle was permanently affixed so that what spray there was, was aimed at the corner. I must have hit my arm on the wall 50 times. Continental breakfast was very good and delivered to our room (no common dining area). Garbage trucks came at 7:30am, 8:00am and another one a bit after that. Don't plan on sleeping in! Even after we told the maid we'd be gone on 15 minutes, she still knocked on our door three times. Nothing like starting the day feeling rushed. Innkeeper was friendly and animated and welcoming. Bed was very comfortable and the room had plenty of beautiful natural light. Perfect place over the walled-up fireplace (non-working) for a flat screen TV but alas, no TV. Deck outside had two comfortable rocking chairs with a commanding view of the ocean. The garden was partially in bloom and absolutely gorgeous. Might stay here again in a different room.
We would like to thank the guest for taking the time to provide a review, and thank them for the positive aspects. We do wish they would have let us know that there were missing hangers or if they would prefer one of our available rooms that had a television. Unfortunately, despite our efforts over 8 years, we are unable to affect the timing of the weekly trash pick-up. While none of the staff on duty this particular day remembers multiple trips to the room, we regret that we apparently made the guest feel rushed when we were looking to remove the breakfast tray. Prior staff who made guests feel rushed have been dismissed, and current staff normally excel at making the guest feel comfortable. We will endeavor to ensure the guest is not rushed.

I had reserved only for 1 night but the next day I decided immediately to extend my stay at the Sea Gull Inn and it became my home while visiting this county. My first room was the Look-out-one room which has a nice sitting porch which is the ideal place to take your breakfast. My second room was the Sand-Dollar Room and has a very nice view with a spot on the ocean. The best thing of the Sea Gull Inn, beside the very nice hosts and very comfortable beds, is that you fall asleep with the sound of the ocean and a frog concerto (January) and that you wake up again with the sound of the ocean but this time combined with the singing of the birds and if you are lucky, the sun shining brightly into your room (both my rooms) It was definitely one of the most charming places I have ever stayed and as a Dutch/Swiss I am a big traveler and looking for quality PS: although I had to give a review on the dining, there is no dinner served, but very good restaurants around. The hosts will definitely give you suggestions as per your wants

We have ventured to other B&B's "just to try it out" that were more expensive and huge disappointments compared to the Sea Gull Inn. We will never stray again! The rooms are super clean and the beds are INSANELY comfortable. My fiance (official from our Mendocino trip last weekend!) has a sensitive back and the bed can make or break the trip. To be honest, part of the excitement of a mendocino getaway for us IS the bed at the Sea Gull Inn. A wonderful night's sleep. The owners are incredibly nice and always seem to remember us which makes me feel very special. They are welcoming and the breakfasts they make are absolutely wonderful. Warm large muffins and fresh fruit and orange juice and yogurt and coffee! Mmmmm! You can walk everywhere - it's right IN town and if you stay anywhere else you've made a mistake. (Just don't be in my favorite room when I try to go! LOL) I know this is a rave review but I honestly cannot think of ANYTHING they could improve upon. :)

Our four day stay in the Sand Dollar room at the Sea Gull Inn was just what we needed. Mom and I had planned a goodbye trip with a friend of ours who as it turned out was too ill to travel. Jim and Ayla were very accomodating and understanding with our last minute change of reservations. Once there, the warm and cozy room, the comfortable beds, and the delicious breakfast brought to us every morning, were just what we needed. We usully didn't get up and dressed and out of our room until around 2:00 every day. When we finally did venture out, the whimsical garden reserved hidden delights in every corner. The town of Mendocino is charming, and we came home rested, renewed, and refreshed.

We had spent 3 weeks traveling in California and had stayed a various places including several B&Bs. We were very pleased with the Sea Gull Inn. The SeaGull Inn is conveniently located in Mendocino, within walking distance of the major in-town areas. The rooms are of varying sizes and shapes, but all are comfortably outfitted. Our room had a stove and heater in the basement to supplement for the cooler evenings. There is no AC. The breakfast was generous and served in room, since there is no communal dining area. The grounds have a variety of seating areas and some interesting plant life and artwork. A pleasant space to stay in Mendocino town.

We stayed here for a single night, in a very pleasant room that opened onto a garden courtyard. Our only complaint about our experience was that the management disturbed us multiple times in the morning about the breakfast tray, and rushed us at checkout, coming by to get the keys. Other than that it was a nice and very comfortable room in a great location right in town.
Ayla and I, Jim, (the owners) would like the reviewer to know how much we regret that our staff disturbed and rushed them. This is not how we wish our guests to be treated and it is not how we have trained our staff. However, the situation has given us pause and opportunity for re-education with a renewed focus on our customer service. Since reading this review the day it was posted, we have gone back and rewritten our training guidelines and sat down with each of our staff members to emphasize what Ayla and I expect of staff, that being: the happiness, comfort and well being of our guests from the moment they arrive to the moment they depart.

I decided to take a last minute weekend trip to Mendocino for some R&R. I could not find a place to stay. So I found the last room at the SG B&B. Great price and location. Oh my gosh it is an awesome place to stay. The beach was across the street and restaurants and walking distance. I stayed for 2 nights and I loved it. The room was gorgeous and so clean. The bed was heavenly! I can't believe that breakfast was included and delivered to my room. I would definitely recommend the Sea Gull B&B. The Inn keepers are so nice and helpful. I give this place 4 stars!!! Thank you Jim and Ayla! MO

Usually I'm not a fan of Bed and Breakfast Inns, that said, we were surprised and very happy to find that we were wrong in this instance. The Sea Gull Inn from start to finish is a class act. Our room was exquisitely decorated and super clean and the bed gave us the best sleep ever. Breakfast was delivered to our room and was perfect. The hostess is casual friendly but not pushy. I would say that if we are going to Mendocino again we will definitely stay at the Sea Gull Inn.

Our second stay at the Seagull Inn. We have not stayed in the main house because we enjoy the separate cottages called the Shed and the Barn. Both are nice and extremely comfortable. Both have televisions with cable channels. The staff has always been welcoming with a satisfying breakfast delivered promptly to the room. The gardens are what I truly appreciate which are beautifully maintained. Having breakfast in the garden on one of several outdoor tables is truly enjoyable. The inn location is great, close to the Main Street businesses. Moody's coffee shop is a short walk for a morning latte. My only request would be a source for hot water for evening tea. Access to a microwave or water dispenser would be nice. We would highly recommend the Seagull Inn

With such beautiful surroundings you wouldn’t think a Bed & Breakfast would make a difference. We came for our honeymoon expecting to have a very pleasant stay in this classic Northern California town. But it was the Seagull Inn’s quaint, impeccable, and unique (all the rooms are different) room; its comfortable and attractive sitting garden; and its very friendly and well informed proprietors (gardeners and cooks!) , Jim and Ayla, that turned our stay into a memorable experience. The Inn is unpretentious and very affordable; offers a secure WiFi connection; and provides a tasty room-served multi-item gluten-free breakfast. It is walking distance from the Mendocino shops and restaurants and the Mendocino Headland trail (a nature trail from which you can observe much of the local plant and animal wildlife (check out our room’s guestbook for a list of species we saw), and if you are lucky, a whale or two). If you want good shopping, great food, and spectacular views—we were lucky enough to view a full lunar eclipse from our room’s veranda—consider Mendocino. If you appreciate enhancing your visit with accommodations that are cozy, quiet, considerate, and attractive, choose Mendocino’s Sea Gull Inn.

The hosts took this in stride and held our deposit on file until we were finally able to make it. If we ever get a chance to go back, this is where we'll stay.

My husband and I have stayed here 4 times now. Each time, Jim and Ayla are very helpful hosts. This stay Ayla recommended a film showing the town was putting on day after Valentine's Day, which we attended and enjoyed very much. The breakfasts are always lovely. This was our first stay in the Geranium Room, our usual rooms choice is/was Lookout 1 or 2, but the Geranium Room was larger and actually fit our needs better, will be our fist choice now. Would recommend this B&B as a lovely place to stay. You can park your car once and walk the entire town, as they are close to everything.

This may be the oldest of the Inns of Mendocino but this place is by far the best. From the sheets to the towels, the breakfast the well done rooms and location is walking distance to everything you need to enjoy in town. Management keeps the rates down and it will keep us coming back for years to come. You won't be sorry you stayed here.

We had a most pleasant stay at the Seagull B&B recently and would be happy to recommend it. The owners, Jim & Ayla, are very friendly and accommodating, the rooms are furnished with a variety of antiques and more modern items which make it all very homey and inviting. The beds are extremely comfy, and the breakfasts are delivered to your room in the morning at a convenient time and feature homemade muffins, fresh-cut fruit and lots of delicious coffee, complete with fresh flowers. I understand there's an egg dish on Saturdays...we'll have to include that with our next visit. A very cozy place for your Mendocino Coast getaway.

Nice clean and quaint B&B located in the heart of town with easy access to everything. Hostess was very pleasant and a more than adequate breakfast included. Would stay again and recommend.

This is our second stay at this beautifully and lovingly maintained historic home and garden. The owners Ayla and Jim, along with their staff, could not be more accommodating; they were always available for any questions we had about the area. They also offer the perfect balance to privacy and interaction. After our three-night stay, it was a challenge to move on after such tranquility and pampering. Our light-filled comfy room was just the right size for the two of us, typically small in an older structure. I felt like a princess in our sumptuous bed, enveloped in luxurious linens. Without the delicious breakfast of homemade muffins and scones, fresh fruit and steaming coffee brought to our room at our prescribed breakfast time, I'm not sure I would have made it out of our snuggly bed for our morning walks along the beach and bluffs. We preferred not having to drive after out evening meal and drinks so the Sea Gull Inn was the perfect location at the edge of the small town, only a few minutes walk from any of the local restaurants. Each room has a different character at the Sea Gull so do ask about the differences when seeking accommodations. We stayed in Lookout Two, which has a room above it. One early morning we were awakened by guests moving about but this was a result of the lack of insulation in the floors of the old building. Nonetheless, we look forward to returning to the comfortable Sea Gull Inn for another pleasant stay.

The room we booked initially (the Shed) was smaller than we had hoped for so the innkeeper gave us a larger room (Driftwood) which was perfect. Large sunny room with a nice size vintage bathroom.

It was our first visit to Northern CA and it was worth it. Staying at the Sea Gull B&B was a great choice. Jim and Ayla were super hosts. The location, our room , and breakfast were all great. We found our hosts to very friendly and both made us feel at home. We stayed 3 nights and if we had time would had stayed longer. One thing you need to do is to walk down to the beach. The sight of the river, ocean and cliffs coming together is just beautiful. And it is only a short walk from the Sea Gull. Till this day my wife and i still talk about breakfast and the beauty of Northern CA.

I've been staying at the Sea Gull for upwards of 30 years, and it just gets better every time I come here for a bit of a "get-away". The rooms are lovely and very clean, in a beautiful, quaint garden setting; great breakfasts served in-room, and charming & helpful hosts. What more can I say? I look forward to each and every visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Seagull. From the comfy beds and lightly lavender scented sheets to the inn's beautiful gardens and scenery of the nearby town and bay, we loved this quaint historic inn with friendly and accommodating innkeepers. We stayed in Lookout 1, from which we could see trees, people arriving for the music festival, and waves crashing on the far-off cliffs. We also enjoyed the two big white rocking chairs on the porch. The breakfast was so delicious and served to our room, warm sundried tomato and artichoke heart quiche, with fresh local organic fruit, yogurt, pot of coffee, tea, and orange juice. We couldn't have asked for a more relaxing and charming honeymoon stay!

Our first visit to California and we had travelled from a lovely hotel in San Francisco. The location was excellent within easy walking distance of the beach and the cafes and shops. Our room was very comfortable with an excellent bed. Our only disappointment was the breakfast. It is served in your room which is fine if you aren't sociable in the morning (we missed meeting other guests) but was quite small. One muffin, a small bowl of fruit and an egg cup of yogurt was not what we had expected for the such a high price.

The Sea Gull Inn turned out to be the perfect place for a quick getaway. Our room was cozy and comfortable and the location of the inn can hardly be beat. All the fun of Mendocino Village is right out your door, including the shops, great restaurants, and the beautiful ocean scenery. Breakfast was just the right start to our day, and we were well taken care of the whole time. And, by the way, the rates are very reasonable! Thanks to innkeepers Jim and Ayla for a great stay!

My husband and I enjoyed three nights at the Sea Gull Inn in Mendocino. We loved our room, The Shed. It was charming, clean and had everything we needed. The Inn keepers and staff were friendly and helpful when asked for resturants.etc.The flat screen was nice for watching TV or DVD's. The most appreciated part of staying at the Sea Gll Inn was the location. We left our car parked at the Inn and walked everywhere. We plan to return and are sharing our experience with our friends.

My husband and I stayed at the Sea Gull Inn 2 years ago and loved it. This month my mother and I were driving up the coast and all she wanted to do was stay at the Sea Gull. Both my husband and I had talked about how wonderful and homey it was. It was just as great as I remembered. Jim and Ayala are so welcoming and make you feel like special from the time you check in. Then there is the breakfast! I have stayed at many B&Bs and find this one of the best breakfasts I have had. I would recommend that anyone that wnats a wonderful experience with a great B&B you should stay at the Sea Gull Inn. Anytime of the year is great!

The lovely photos and reviews I saw of this inn before my arrival did not prepare me for how enchanting, peaceful, and comfortable my stay would be. No ground line phones in the rooms and the bare minimum of needed services made this a true retreat. I could get what I needed and then withdraw into the cozy room or blooming garden. Everything from the luxurious king-size bed to the wood stove made the Driftwood room most inviting. The breakfast tray, delivered directly to the room each morning, was always a meal to look forward to. Mellow hosts, artistic cooks, considerate maids, a beautiful setting, and Sofia the cat greeting guests on the front porch. I'll be going back.

Breakfast was great...all organic and very tasty and freshly baked. Jim and Ayla are very nice. We also met Sandy and Consolacion when we checked out... both nice and sweet ladies. I will recommend this B&B. Very good value for your money. Danny & Connie G

This was the first time in years my son and daughter had time off from their student schedules at the same time. We went to San Francisco and Mendocino to celebrate. Loved staying at “ the Barn “ with its loft, its double-Dutch doors, its rustic feel and its privacy from all the other rooms. The gardens were gorgeous, the inn-keepers so helpful and friendly, and the breakfast, which was served in our living room was great! The central location was a real plus as well. Highly recommend it.

My daughter and I stayed at the Sea Gull Inn for two evenings recently and everything about the stay was absolutely charming. It can be difficult to please a teenager, but Jim and Ayla took such good care of us, and the room was sooo accommodating and beautiful and comfortable that we both were like happy little pups the entire length of our stay. Even the stormy weather was wonderful when coupled with this charming room. Thank you- we will be back.

Great getaway from the busy city life. Flew in from outer state and loved the quietness and small community. One of the best things is their scones yum!!! The rooms are nice & cozy the owners told us of gret places to taste wine & eat, i.e; Toulouse Winery, Great Garlic Fries & Food in Fort Bragg and LePetite Riv in Mendocino. The owners, Ayla & Jim are very nice and accommodating people. One of the most relaxing things was having no phone, newspaper, or tv, just sitting in the garden and reading hearing the Pacific Ocean in the distance. One day we would love to go during Whale watching season.

My girlfriend and I had never been to Mendocino so we decided we'd take a quick trip for an overnight stay for Christmas. We were pleasantly surprised at the quaintness of the "shed" that we stayed in. The property owners were very pleasant and accommodating and were a wealth of information. Very cool downtown with lots of shops to check out. Ocean trails, biking and views were awesome. We will definitely be back in 2012.

Our stay at Sea Gull Inn was wonderful. We loved the little Shed Room. It was cozy and very comfortable. The location couldn’t be better - within walking distance to shopping, dining, etc. The owners were so personable and very helpful with restaurant suggestions. We enjoyed walking along the bluff overlooking the Pacific. Great little town, great B & B.

Ayla & Jim - the hosts and owners were extremely kind, helpful, sweet and caring. They made sure we had everything we wanted or needed, they made a difficult reservation for us at 955 Ukiah restaurant (delicious), made sure we knew how to get everywhere, showed us all the special things about our charming room, gave us names of their colorful exotic plants that surround the Inn (really magical sitting areas amongst the most beautiful gardens), provided us with the most incredible breakfasts (special egg dish, fresh fruit, OJ, yogurt, good coffee - Sat & homemade pastry with everything else on Sun) that arrived right on time, and they were just the nicest couple you ever wish to meet. We could not have been more pleased with our way too short stay - we can't wait to go back!

We only had one night at the Sea Gull, and I wish it had been a week! The owners were very warm, and our rooms were gorgeous. With fanciful driftwood art dotting the garden, the grounds are a nice place to explore, too. Breakfast was absolutely delicious. Whether you're a carnivore or vegetarian, the owners gladly accommodate your dietary requests. This would be a great place to stay while you explore the area around Mendocino.

I love Mendocino and wanted to introduce it to a college friend who is a historic preservationist. We stayed in the Sand Dollar room and loved every minute of our visit! The inn is cosy and old fashioned, clean and cheery. The owners greeted us on our arrival and gave us a wealth of information about the inn and the town. After a restful night we were presented with a gorgeous breakfast tray in our room - coffee, fresh fruit, yogurt and huge raspberry muffins, still warm from the oven. It was a beautiful, quiet oasis from an otherwise hectic trip. We'd love to come again.

My birthday treat from my wife, two nights at the Sea Gull Inn in Mendocino, couldn't have been more enjoyable. Even the weather was a Spring respite from the raging winter we left behind in Sacramento. Having stayed at the Sea Gull Inn more than 30 years before, I was impressed at how it had become downright elegant, when once it was at best funky chic. The friendliness of the Innkeepers and staff, including Sophie the Cat, really contributed to the comfort of our stay. The delicious breakfasts were the perfect compliment to my perfect birthday dinner at the nearby Cafe Beaujolais. We will return and recommend to our friends and family.

We wanted a comfortable, cozy, and special place to stay for 2 nights in Mendocino. We were so happy with the Sea Gull Inn, the innkeepers and the location, we've decided to give our son and daughter-in-law a two night stay for their 10 year anniversary. In addition to being a lovely place to stay with a delightful breakfast in our room, we received excellent recommendations for places to eat and things to see, including the Botanical Gardens and just the right place to view the sunset! We will return.

My partner and I had a wonderful experience here which made our whole weekend special. The Sea Gull Inn is by far our favorite B&B ANYWHERE!!! Jim and Ayla (and Sophie the cat) are wonderful hosts, and have created paradise. Our favorite room, Lookout 1, is beautful, warm and inviting, the breakfast was so delicious with generous portions, and just walking into the garden gives a sense of beauty and peacefulness. We can't wait to return, to re-live the experience of being pampered!

A single traveler, I spent 2 nights at the Sea Gull Inn. The first night, which was in The Shed was mixed. The decor was charming and comfortable, but several sowbugs from the garden kept finding their way in and proceeded to crawl around the bathroom floor and up the walls in the main room. They aren't dangerous, and it wasn't a hoard of them, but it was a bit annoying. One even managed to make its way into my computer case. At night in The Shed, two racoons crawled up on the roof and reminded me that I wasn't in the city any more. They do make a lot a noise. I couldn't get the bathroom window to close completely either, so I stuffed a towel in it. This also helped cut down on the draftiness. However, the heater worked very well. The second night I was in The Abalone Room. This room had nice views of the garden and had better natural light than the shed. No sowbugs here, but when the wind picked up the bathroom window rattled enough to interfere with my sleep. Not to worry, I stuck a handy item between the window and the sill--it worked! The breakfasts were delicious, and it was wonderful to have them delivered to the door. The people were very nice and friendly. I would stay here again. I felt it was good value for the money, and most of my complaints are simply a result of the Inn being in an old house which doesn't fit together as tightly as it once did.

My husband and I spent a long weekend in the Lookout room. The bed was very comfortable, the breakfast was nice, loved that it was delivered to our room. My husband would go over to the coffee place (Moodys) for a cap for him and a latte for me while we waited for breakfast. Very nice to be right in the center of Mendocino, walking to anywhere was so easy. We did have nice weather for a day and half, then on Sunday, when we were leaving, a very strong rain storm came in, in the process of packing the car and trying to keep dry, my husband forgot a bag that I had a couple things that I had bought in town. When we realized our mistake, I called and talked to the manager to see if he could find it, he did, it was right where we left it, I asked him if I sent some money, could he mail it....he said "no money was necessary" and he mailed it to us! We got it in about 3 days, I was so thankful for him doing that. We only live in Santa Rosa but a drive back to Mendocino would not have been our choice to retrieve our treasure. All in all, we loved our weekend (even with the rain), am planning on going again maybe for our anniversary in July.

Thank you Jim and Ayala. Looking forward to our next stay.

My girlfriend and spent two nights at the Sea Gull Inn in April 2010. We stayed in the Lookout 2 room, which actually has two beds, a nice couch, and a bit of extra space for relaxing. If you're looking for a comfy, homely bed and breakfast then this is the perfect place. The owners were tremendously nice, offering suggestions and responding quickly to any issues. We actually heard a sound from a smoke detector which had a dying battery in the middle of the night. I called the landlord and he was there to swap it out in minutes. Great response! The breakfast isn't much, but it was way better than we expected. Freshly baked coffee cake, fresh fruit and berries with some organic yogurt, and coffee. They'll bring extra coffee if you want, though we tended to go over to the Organic Coffee shop one block away which always had 4-5 types of coffee brewing. Mendocino is fantastic. We had a wonderful picnic, and we also went wine tasting in Anderson Valley. Also we went on many lovely walks. I highly recommend the Sea Gull Inn and we hope to return soon.

Despite the rain, our mood was kept uplifted by the adorable paintings and the warm cozy setting. Falling asleep in the Sea Gull Inn with the sound of the storm outside made us feel safe. And waking up in the morning to a divine breakfast delivered personally to our door added to its perfection. Thanks for a very memorable stay.
