While on a road trip my wife and I needed a place to rest the night. I found Zaballa House online for a very reasonable rate and it also happened to be only minutes away from one of my favorite beaches. I took a chance and booked as I e never been to this BB before. Very pleasantly surprised: great location, very clean, roomy, comfortable with all the amenities including fireplace. We had a very romantic time and I will be visiting again. I'm glad I found this sweet little BB. Thank you.

When we got to Zaballa House we walked into a very pretty receiving area. We were then pointed to a outside to a building that is not connected to the main house. We did not know we would not be staying in the pretty main house. We had to hike up some steep stairs with our suitcase, along a worn wood walkway to our room. The room was not decorated like the the pictures at all. The carpet was stained and it just was not at all what we thought we were paying for. The room was very large, and the bathroom was very large. But the decor was like staying at a Motel Six. Just a TV, desk and a bed. No flowers, no pretty pained walls, no nice bed with a nice headboard. There where not any screens on the windows, so we did not feel comfortable in opening the windows to let in some air. There was no air conditioning and it was a hot weekend. We would have left, but it was a summer weekend and everything was booked up. If they put some money into it, it could be a very lovely hotel, not a bed and breakfast. The rooms in the pictures must be in the main house. So be sure to call and find out where your room is. If it is not the main house I would not stay there. We did not eat there the next morning, so I can't tell you what the breakfast was like. We were so disappointed with the room, we just wanted to leave. On a bright note, it was in a great location. Right downtown, next to all of the cool shops and restaurants.

The Zaballa House, built in 1855, is a very charming place. We had a room in the original building, which has a lot of character--not a coolke-cutter motel-style room. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfast, although simple, was nicely prepared and had a lot of variety. At both the breakfast and the evening wine and cheese, we were able to meet many of the other guests, which was an interesting experience. The owner herself served one of our breakfasts, and we enjoyed talking with her. A wonderful location, and a terrific experience!

My friend and I had a trip to Stanford and needed a place to stay for the night. This place was inexpensive and very beautiful. The staff were exceptionally nice and helpful. My friend has since passed on from the cancer, and I wanted to personally thank them for how they treated us at that delicate time.

We stayed in room 24. Pros: Very clean and spacious, nice staff. Cute decor. Breakfast was great. Location awesome, right in downtown. Cons: none-working fireplace and backed up shower drain. Also it would be nice to have more vegan or vegetarian options.

Pros: +Comfortable room +Jacuzzi tub +Away from the city +5 mins away from a great beach +Amazing price for staying in the bay area Neutral Bigger than your standard B&B, similar to a small hotel Food was more like a hotel breakfast than typical B&B breakfast Cons: -Away from the city Overall my experience with this B&B was great. Half moon bay is a small/quite community about an hour away from the city. Surrounded by the ocean and trees, it's very peaceful, especially compared to other parts of the bay area. Our room was nice, the bed was comfortable and it included a jacuzzi tub (no shower though). The food was mostly like a hotel breakfast, except for some homemade quiche that was quite tasty. There are more guests than a typical B&B but we knew that going in. If you're willing to sacrifice ~2 hours a day in travel to the city then this B&B is a great choice. I'll certainly be staying here the next time I'm in the bay.

The room was beautiful. We had the deluxe suite. It took some time to figure out the light, fan, and fireplace switches. It seemed like everything was opposite where we expected it to be... but we figured it out. Service was great and we met some very interesting people during breakfast. Overall, we had a great experience there and I would definitely consider it again. My biggest gripe was the hot water and water pressure. We had this nice jacuzzi tub but it took forever to get the water hot and the pressure was so low that it would take too long to fill the tub.

Delightful location in the heart of downtown HMB. the only thing better would be to be right on the beach, but it's not a bad walk. Room was spacious, clean, simple, great price. Breakfast is nice, other guests are friendly. I would stay again. Other reviews note that the rooms are hot... leave the bathroom fan on to pull some air in and it's not too bad.

The Zaballa staff loves to cook and enjoys meeting people. Sue loves to make quiche's and granola for breakfast. Marian also works for a catering company and will not be out done by anyone with her afternoon wine and cheese. Maria is always helpful and if you are nice she might make you her special waffles with fresh fruit.
Sue's Homemade quiche. You never know what Sue will come up with next but what you can expect is it to be delicious and filling.
