From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel extremely welcome by Vick & Madeline, the Innkeepers. It was a prefect location to explore plenty of wineries and in walking distance to shops & restaurants. Madeline was adorable, with her cute little southern accent & welcoming arms, I felt I was at home with family. Her breakfasts are amazing..without a doubt the best! The cheese & wine cocktail parties in the afternoon was a little cherry on top of our busy day….& great way to meet the other guests. We loved our loft room with the separate access, parking was a breeze. Overall, our first visit to Napa Valley will be very memorable due to this quaint little B & B, Inn St Helena. We can’t wait to return!

You are a short drive away from everywhere. After a couple of "tastings" every day, the white picket fence said "kick off your shoes you are home again". Take a snooze and head out for dinner with plenty of choices in town and nearby Yountville. Very reasonable for the area.

We arrived later than the posted wine/cheese hour and found a key and front door code instructions taped to the front door. We did not see anyone until the next morning when we met the manager who was preparing breakfast. The room was adequate but small, the bed comfortable. The main issue was the carpet, in public spaces, hallways, and our room, which was very very soiled (beige carpet which showed all kinds of spots and wear, tear, and dirt). I don't think I've ever seen anything that bad in any kind of accommodation. The manager fixed a nice breakfast and chatted with guests.

Very much enjoyed our stay here. The house has been updated and tastefully decorated. (i.e. every surface isn't covered in lace and flowers like many other B&Bs.) The bed was comfortable and despite the heat outside the air was very nicely air-conditioned. Everything was very clean and well maintained. WiFi signal was strong and 20Mb internet let us stream our shows at night.

My boyfriend and I celebrated our birthdays in Ambrose Bierce House. We stayed one night only and met Christian, the innkeeper, but by the end of our stay it felt like we came to visit our best friend. The B&B itself is charming, with beautifully decorated rooms, super comfortable beds and an absolutely delicious breakfast, situated in the heart of St. Helena. The location of the B&B is perfect; you can walk to some of the wineries and a number of restaurants. However, what really sets it apart from other B&Bs is Christian. I have never seen a person (including my friends of 20 years and family) that went the extra mile to accommodate us. It started with a pre-visit inquiry of what wineries and restaurants we should visit in the area. I was at a loss since there are so many great establishments in Napa and St. Helena area. Christian asked for our preferences and gave us a very good and focused list of places to go. We were off to a good start already! Then we had a chance to chat with him a bit in the B&B and also enjoyed an amazing waffle breakfast. A week after we came back, Christian followed up with an email asking how our stay was. I was astonished to see that he remembered every little detail of our trip, including our birthday celebrations, our itinerary before and after Napa stay, etc. Christian paid attention to everything! I loved his waffle breakfast so much that I asked for the recipe. Not only did he email me the recipe, he also mailed me a bag of waffle/pancake mix! I highly recommend staying at Ambrose Bierce house. You will make a friend for life in Christian and enjoy a beautiful B&B in magical St. Helena.

A friend who had stayed here a couple of times during his vacation highly recommended that we stay at the Ambrose Bierce B&B. We stayed five nights and were extremely satisfied! The location was perfect as we were able to walk to a different restaurant for dinner every night. The room was nice and clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Christhian was the host during our stay, and he was amazing! We awoke every morning to a delicious home-cooked breakfast spread with fresh fruit in the dining room, and came back in the afternoons from our daily ventures to find wine and hors d’oeuvres awaiting us upstairs in the lounge. Christhian was fun and we enjoyed visiting with him. He made some great suggestions on wineries and restaurants, provided maps to get us where we wanted to go, and he made our stay with Ambrose Bierce very enjoyable! We’re planning to go there again to celebrate our 30th anniversary after the first of the year! Can’t wait to go back!

My sisters and I stayed at this quaint spot for a girls weekend reunion. We stayed in the new loft apartment and couldn't have asked for a better experience. The staff were both friendly and accommodating and the location was perfect! They were nice enough to let us take our complimentary breakfast up to our room so we could enjoy an intimate breakfast on the balcony. We felt at home and honestly couldn't have asked for a better wine tasting get-away! We will definitely be back!!

From when we first spoke to Tamara to confirm our check-in, we knew we had picked a great spot for our stay in Napa! The Inn was adorable, clean and quaint. We haven't stopped talking about how comfortable our beds were. We say "beds" because our AMAZING assistant inn-keeper, Christian, invited us to stay in a large king size suite on our second night because this room had no reservation. We had previously booked a small room which was comfortable but tight quarters. Little did he know that we had gotten engaged that day and this was the perfect addition to an unforgettable day. Christian went above and beyond to treat us not like guests, but like family. The gourmet breakfast was piping hot and delicious every morning. Each evening we were greeted with wine and appetizers. I accidentally left behind a piece of jewelry. Christian promptly contacted us about it and immediately mailed it . All in all this was a perfect piece of an unforgettable trip. We aren't sure when we will be able to return but we know when we do, we will be at Ambrose again!

Stayed nights of 8/14 & 8/15 for a getaway weekend (and proposal) for my girlfriend. Location is right on Main St. close to lots of shops and food. Cristhian was a great host and cook I'll be back.

My boyfriend and I stayed one night at this beautiful B&B. The location is great - brief waking distance to the shops and restaurants of downtown St. Helena. The house is cozy and nicely decorated. The innkeeper Cristhian gave us a warm and enthusiastic welcome and took very good care of us! We were the only ones booked at the inn for the night, so the amazing Cristhian gave us a free upgrade to the Ambrose Bierce suite. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was nice and big, with a jacuzzi tub. They provided robes and extra towels so we could enjoy the outdoor hot tub, too! Cristhian made hors d'oeuvres and even though we weren't able to make it to cocktail hour, he left food and carafes of wine for us to enjoy later in the evening. In the morning, the other amazing innkeeper, Tamara, made oatmeal creme brulee - yum!! Overall, it was an amazing experience! We highly recommend Ambrose Bierce House and we'd love to go back again soon!

We recently stayed at this well kept and charming bed and breakfast with two other couples. Innkeeper Meldalina was a warm, delightful hostess who whipped up delicious dishes for breakfast as well as special treats that would tempt any palate! Her personal touches and attention to detail ensured that everything was "just right." Our group especially liked the quaint common area that provided a relaxed atmosphere to gather throughout our stay. We will definitely return!

Erin and Meldalina were very accommodating hosts. Both were very helpful, and gave numerous suggestions on restaurants and wineries. Breakfast was very tasty, and the snacks/wine in the afternoon hit the spot. Location was very convenient to shopping, restaurants, and wineries-walking distance for some. Our room was downstairs in the back very close to parking. Bathroom had a tub/shower for two. The gas fireplace was also a nice touch. Will return if in the area again.

The Ambrose Bierce house was wonderful. The breakfasts were delicious and the tips they gave about dining and attractions were spot on. The afternoon reception was lovely, and a great opportunity to visit with our hosts and other guests. The only downside was that our room was warm, and didn't seem to cool off well. Not a big surprise in an older house. The location was great and we could walk to many excellent restaurants.

The Innkeeper Chris was very nice and helpful with recommendations for meals and wineries. Breakfasts were very good. Overall, the inn was nice; rooms are a bit tight; maid service was acceptable but not exceptional; beds are firm; bathrooms and tubs are nice; outside hot tub is great and can be used 24/7; wine and cheese at 5 pm. Location is excellent, close enough to restaurants and shops, but in a quieter part of the town.

My now-husband, our son and my immediate family stayed in this beautiful property for the night before/of/after our wedding in July, 2011. Everything was just perfect. The rooms were beautiful, the setting and location amazing and the hospitality perfect! The included breakfasts were UNBELIEVABLE and gourmet!! We loved our stay and would happily stay again.

Our stay at the Ambrose Bierce house was perfect. It is located in St. Helena walking distance to many restaurants and a few wineries. The northern part of Napa is definitely the place to stay and the views are beautiful in this area. The house is priced very reasonably and the breakfast was terrific. Mimosas every morning too!

The house is extremely nice, well maintained, and felt private even with 6 guest staying over the weekend. We enjoyed the breakfast and the host was very helpful in providing guidance for wine tasting, restuarants, and other attractions. We would definitely stay again.

The room was very nice and comfortable. Breakfast was very good as well. We stayed in the Molly Day rom, which has a private entrance and we enjoyed that. There is a nice outdoor sitting area that we didn't use this trip but when the weather is nice it will be wonderful and very private. The hot tub is right outside the room, but unfortunately there is no gate from the Mollie Day patio, so you have to go around to the front of the house to enter. No big deal. My one nit is that I ordered a package of roses and champagne and chocolates to be in our room on arrival and that was forgotten. Since we were there for 2 days I mentioned it and it was corrected that day. The downside is we had one less day to enjoy our lovely roses before leaving. I would recommend the Ambrose Bierce House, and we would stay there again. If you do stay here, don't miss Market, just a short 2 block walk south on Main St. The food is delicious and the prices reasonable. Cheers!

This is one of the nicest places my wife and I have ever stayed. The house was clean and wonderfully decorated. The rooms were beautiful. The hosts were kind and gracious and we felt right at home. Wonderful champagne breakfast with the world's greatest and largest croissants. We will go back again. Thanks Ambrose Bierce House. Doug and Dawn Mozealous Miami, Florida

John and Lisa went out of their way to make sure our stay was the best. It was our 20th anniversary-they made reservations, suggested winerys we might enjoy, and other places to eat. We brought champagne to share and Lisa graciously served it and visited with all the guests. John's breakfasts were to die for and our room was lovely. Thanks so much, RT and Denise Tillery

Ambrose Bierce House is very cosy. The rooms are rather small but gorgeous. It feels like coming home to your parents place. The breakfast is celebrated every morning at 9am sharp. This also gives you the chance to get to know the other guests as it is only one big breakfast table for all 10 guests. Carlos, the manager is looking well after everybody and has a recommendation for everything you want to do. Additionally they organising taxi services for the guests as the normal black cab in Napa is ridiculously expensive. It was a great experience and I can only recommend it to everybody. Book early as it is booked out fast. I was lucky to get a room as they had one cancellation.

Just spent three fantastic days and two nights in Napa Valley, all made possible by the great folks who run the Ambrose Bierce House B&B in St. Helena. First they were thoughtful enough to call us before we even arrived in Napa Valley to see how they could help. They suggested some great spots to stop for lunch and to see on our way up. Once we got there, they took the time to listen to our interests and not only made great suggestions, but went out of our way to make the necessary arrangements making the entire trip in Napa effortless. The rooms in the inn were charming, comfortable and clean. The afternoon wine and cheese was a joy, and the breakfasts were the highlight of it all.
