About

We are setting the new standard for the American Bed and Breakfast Inn. We cater to the new generation of B&B guests who want something more than doilies, egg bakes, and cheap sherry. With no televisions in the rooms, we choose to be counter-cultural and encourage our guests to disconnect from the world in order to reconnect to each other. This is not an inn for traditional B&B people. We are attracting the next generation who want great food for breakfast, well beyond the traditional omelets, frittatas, and egg bakes of old. This is where you get to experience a chef’s creative innovation each morning, one of his 150 recipes for breakfast, such as Corndog Omelets, Tomato and Egg Soup with Grilled Cheese Croutons, or S’mores French Toast with house made Marshmallows. And, YES, WiFi is available for those who feel they must stay connected to the outside world, but our hope is that you will learn to leave all that aside to enjoy great Napa hospitality here at the inn and at the wineries. We are in the heart of downtown historic Napa with access to 400 plus wineries in the valley, and Sonoma is just a 15-minute drive away.

The best B&B in Napa

5 on September 12, 2017

My wife and I are repeat visitors to the Inn on First - a favorite destination because of the extraordinary experience we have every time. This is what a B&B should be like - the decor, charm, location are outstanding. The breakfasts are incredible (get the cookbook if you want to replicate them) - that alone is worth the trip. But that's only part of the story: it's what co-owners Jim and Jamie do to make this the most inviting place possible, starting from the moment we arrived and Jim greeted us with "Welcome home". It really does feel that welcoming. Jamie and Jim know every winery in the area, and they'll ask you your preferences and help you find the ones you'll enjoy the most. Jamie now does a private wine tour. It's always a good option for people visiting Napa, but it's really special with Jamie. That applies just as much if you're driving yourself, of course, but it's even better this way. They can also give you the best advice for dining and activities. If you're looking for a wonderful experience in Napa, the Inn on First is the best place to go.

Great breakfast, people, and experience

5 on September 11, 2017

No wonder this BnB has won so many accolades. We had an amazing experience and Jim, Jaime, and staff are delightful. We could not have asked for a better Labor Day Weekend getaway. Instructions are very clear even prior to arrival so that we had no trouble with our late check-in. It's nice to have port wine readily available, homemade cookies (very addicting), and a split bottle of sparkling wine to greet you. You come here for the breakfast and you're always treated to cold and hot entree. The hot entrees change daily and Jim takes a lot of care and pride in his work. You're getting creative, fine-dining style breakfasts and all of them came out tasty and satisfying. Jaime helped us out with logistics and I'm so happy that he was there to help. We didn't have any wine tours pre-planned and he jumped to the call after understanding what we were looking for and booked us appointments at amazing wineries. We found 2 favorites during this trip and it's all because of Jaime's assistance. All of the staff is very friendly, everything that you want/need is available, when we come back to Napa, we're coming back to The Inn On First. No need to look elsewhere.

Innkeeper Response
Thanks for joining us for the holiday weekend. We’re so pleased to hear that we were able to accomdate your late check in with no worries, and that you had everything you needed (plus more) waiting for you on arrival. It so nice to hear that you enjoyed the outings that Jamie could help plan for you and we truly appreciate all of your kind words and wonderful review.

Lovely B&B in the town of Napa

5 on September 06, 2017

This was a wonderful B&B experience for us. We were two couples visiting the Sonoma and Napa Valley wine country from Sugar Land (Houston), Texas. As part of our trip we wanted to spend two nights at a B&B in Napa and we chose the Inn on First. From the moment we arrived and were welcomed by Jim, we knew that we had made the right choice. Jim offered us some tea or coffee with homemade cookies that he had just prepared. Additionally, he prepared some lactose free cookies for one member of our party based in information we provided when we made our reservation. It was like coming to visit old friends - we were made to feel right at home. Our charming rooms were in the main house and exactly as described on the website. We overlooked the outdoor garden where breakfast is served daily in a beautiful setting. The location of the inn was perfect. It was in a nice neighborhood on quiet street and just a few minutes walk to downtown Napa. This offered us a great opportunity to visit and explore the town of Napa. We all agreed that we would definitely stay here the next time we visit the area and that we would recommend the Inn on First to any of our friends traveling to Napa.

Anniversary stay

4.8 on September 03, 2017

This is our third year in a row celebrating our anniversary at the Inn on First. We had another great experience! The food is fantastic. The breakfasts are simply amazing and the cookies and fresh tea are a wonderful way to end the day. The hosts go out of their way to make sure your time in Napa is everything you want it to be. From restaurant and winery recommendations to arranging drivers, they are True hosts!

Innkeeper Response

Awesome B&B in Napa

4.4 on August 16, 2017

We had a great two night stay and were warmly welcomed by Jim, who was very accommodating in every way. As a vegan, Jim provided excellent plant-based alternatives for breakfast and (tasty zuchinni fritters) and even delicious vegan cookies! We left early for the airport and enjoyed the breakfast bag "to go" - a real treat. Was very appreciative of the attention to detail. Rooms were spacious, impeccably decorated and very clean. Split of champaign for morning mamosa's was unexpected and appreciated. Well done.

Innkeeper Response
Thanks for sharing such a lovely review. Chef Jim certainly loves accommodating to different dietary restrictions, and we will be sure to share your praises with him on the zucchini fritters and vegan cookies. Your kind rating and remarks are appreciated!

Signature Dish

Corndog Omelet
Take an open faced omelet. Fill it with spinach, prosciutto, and pepper jack cheese. Roll it up into a long cigar shape. Cut it in half, dip it in corndog batter and deep-fry until golden brown. Served with mustard, this dish brings together the smoky, sweet, spicy goodness of breakfast in every bite.
