We stayed at Carlson's Lodge for 3 nights during the first week of October. We were pleasantly surprised by the spacious room, homey atmosphere, and overall cleanliness. Carol, the owner, provided information on area attractions and dining, and made us feel at home the minute we walked through the door. The lodge has been in the family for 4+ decades and the common areas are filled with family pictures and heirlooms. After checking out, Carol promptly left a voicemail to notify us that we had left something in the room. We were several hours away when I checked my messages so Carol offered to send our item to our home. Carlson's Lodge is a real treasure in the White Mountains.

Great place to stay! Loved the owners. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Close to restaurants and attractions. Only issue is light continental breakfast begins at 8:00 am. I think it should start at 7:00 am. Other than that we recommend the place!

This was the nicest place we stayed on our ten day trip in New England. Our room was extremely clean. It appeared to be brand new although it was not. Beds were very comfortable with high count cotton sheets. We did not dine onsite, but the staff was very helpful in selecting a place to dine. I will be staying here on next trip to White Mountains.

First the pros. The rooms are big, comfortable, clean, warm, and cozy. In the hallway on the side of the building where we stayed, they had a wood stove which was a nice amenity to return to at the end of the day. Our hosts were polite, friendly, and sought to be as accommodating as they could be. Discount lift tickets to Bretton Woods was a plus too. The location being really close to things was also very nice. It was a cozy place, felt like my grandmother's lake cabin. The cons. Communication could be improved in some areas. For example, I wasn't told that our suite was on the second floor and I plain forgot to ask, and ultimately this was not an option for us for disability access reasons, so it took a few phone calls to work out a solution on the first floor. Maybe it's my fault for not asking, but usually I've been told what floor a room is on. The other thing was daily housekeeping - normally we do not like daily housekeeping, and we weren't told that a cleaning person would be in our room on the first day while we were out. If we knew this we would have taken our valuables with us. Also I'm allergic to cats, and there's a cat who lives in the lobby so just fyi. Very friendly kitty but I have a rash on my hand now. But the deal breaker for me is the lack of breakfast. There is coffee, juice, and cold cereal served from 8am to 10am, and if you are leaving early to go skiing, hiking, or any other outdoor activity where you'll want an earlier start, you can't even access it - not to mention that it's not much. I know what a continental breakfast is, but why not Danishes? regular sized muffins? bagels? Fruit? Yogurt? It's best to just bring your own food, or get up even earlier and eat at one of the diners in town. We ended up just eating at the cafeteria in the base lodge at the ski area, which is disappointing considering what we paid for a place advertising an included breakfast.

We were almost alone in the hotel. It was the weekend before mid-winter break. The stay was very nice. Not too many restaurants were open during the early week. We had planned on skiing at Bretton Woods. The owner was really nice and personable, as was her helpers!

Very comfortable and quaint. Got discounted tickets to BW and saved $60 on 3 tickets, no need to wait in ticket line - just went to the chairlift. We got a two room suite that had plenty of channels on the TV for the girls. Lots of neat sitting areas. My favorite part was drinking my coffee while looking out the window at Twin Mountain.

We staying in the lodge during a ski trip. The area had very little dining options on a Tuesday. The lodge had a roaring fire, game room, and was very quiet and comfortable. Owner very nice and sociable!
