Baked Orange Pecan French Toast

  • 1 and 1/3 C All-purpose flour
  • 1 and 1/3 C Milk
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 16 1/2 Inch Slices of Italian Bread
  • 1 Cup North Carolina Chopped Pecans
  • Syrup: 1/2 Cup Butter, 1/2 Cup Sugar, 1 Cup Orange Juice, 2 Tablespoons Tapioca Starch


  1. Melt 1/2 Cup Butter and pour into three 9 x 13 Pans, Arrange Bread in a single layer on top of butter
  2. Beat together, eggs, juice, milk, sugar, vanilla, and nutmeg. Pour egg mixture over bread in the pans and refrigerate overnight
  3. Next morning bake at 350 for 20 minutes, add pecans and bake an additional 15 to 20 minutes
  4. Syrup: Melt 1/2 cup butter, whisk in sugar until disolved, add orange juice and then continue to heat and whisk in the tapioca starch till thickens
  5. Arrange French Toast on a plate and pour syrup on top, garnish with an Orange Slice and a side of local North Carolina Maple Sausage
