Aunt Norma's Brownies

  • 4 eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 pound unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 4 squares unsweetened chcoolate


  1. Preheat oven to 350F and grease a 9X13 inch pan.
  2. In a double-boiler, melt the chocolate and butter over hot water (or slowly in an microwave). Add eggs, sugar, vanilla, and blend.
  3. In a smaller bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the egg mixture. Stir until well blended. Add the nuts and raisins.
  4. For fudgy brownies, bake for 30-35 minutes. The center will still be soft. For drier brownies, bake longer.
  5. Cool completely. Cut into squares.
