Built in 1900, the Iris House bed and breakfast in Eureka is a Victorian home with elements typical to the Queen Anne style, including a faux balcony and Ionic columns. The next owner will be stepping into a ready-to-run business – two rooms and one suite are fully furnished to accommodate guests and the downstairs dining areas can be rented out. The attic can be converted into an owner's apartment.
The front door is lined with stained glass windows crafted in 1979 and features pink irises and a full moon. On the staircase, part of the wall has the original anaglypta, which is a molded design from wood pulp, cotton and horse hair. A large chandelier hangs over the staircase, which can be lowered for cleaning and maintenance. The Chandelier Room has two vintage-style crystal chandeliers that provide a large, open space for guests to enjoy breakfast or it can be closed off to serve as a venue. Above the door to the side yard, a stained glass pane with a red flower ties the room to the house's floral theme.
In the kitchen, the commercial grade linoleum and dishwasher make cleaning simple and the large stainless steel island provides plenty of working space. It comes equipped with two full ovens with gas burners and a griddle each, and there is plenty of storage space. The private dining room provides space for dinner parties and other small groups. To create that Victorian feel, the room features period-style décor and the long table and antique bureau allow the area to function as a buffet room. A convenient powder room is right next door.
Décor in the study creates a cool and somber feel. The bottom half of the wall has the original lincrusta, which is a deeply embossed wall covering. A gas fireplace and a small brass chandelier provide lighting. Guests enjoy sitting in the leather chairs to read, watch TV or play games stacked in an out-of-sight wall cabinet. Named after the style of the house, the Queen Anne Suite features a gorgeous queen-sized, four-poster bed and white and blue toile wallpaper. Through a short hallway only accessible from the suite, guests can access a reading room. A nursery separate from the suite with two small beds can accommodate children.
Guests staying in the Iris Room enjoy the classic comfort of a Victorian home. The wallpaper lining the Iris Room is maroon with embroidered iris flower designs, topped with gold tone molding original to the home. With two double beds, plush chairs and antique furniture, this room is perfect for traveling companions or a small family. The water closet and shower are in separate rooms for privacy amongst guests. The Brass Bedroom is so named because of the stunning brass bed frame with onyx detailing. This room offers the largest bathroom, and the bedroom walls are painted a cheery yellow to match the brass feel of the room. An antique wooden armoire with two large oval mirrors provides clothes storage.
