Inn Details
The Dryhead Ranch is a Montana Working Guest Ranch on the eastern slopes of the Pryor Mountains, south of Billings, Montana. We will share with you the dream to live on an authentic Montana working ranch for a week and ride with our cowboys while they care for 750 head of black angus cows and calves, 150 foundation bred mares and colts of various ages, 21,000 acres of grassland mountain country. We have one of the largest Buffalo jumps in the United States on our ranch and lots of Indian artifacts that will interest any history buff. We are near the Pryor Mountain Wild Horse Range where the oldest refuge for mustang horses is. You can see and photograph Spanish blood mustang horses who run wild and free on 70,000 acres of rugged mountain terrain near our Montana ranch. First thing in the spring we begin our Horse Drives and Cattle drives. We trail 50 miles into our Montana ranch all of our cows and calves and some of our horses to put them on grass for the spring, summer and fall. We are not a dude ranch. We ride well trained ranch horses that will work cattle and give our guests an opportunity to see how cowboys work and live. Some of our summer weeks will have mini-horse drives where our guests can learn horse trailing skills from cowboys who make a living riding their horses. Our Horse drives will be moving our riding horses or our young training stock or possibly our mares and colts from Montana ranch meadows to winter pasture many miles away. This authentic Montana working ranch is one of the few left in the guest ranch business that offers the real get down and get your hands dirty kind of cowboy adventure. Our guests come as strangers but leave as friends with a great western cowboy experiences to dream about and come back to experience again.
