Nice and quiet for a city setting
on March 24, 2015
My wife and I stayed at the Devoe house across the street from the Rosenberry because we wanted to enjoy the Jacuzzi tub. The hot water seemed to run out before the tub filled up, but it was still nice to have in the room. One of my favorite features was the REAL fireplace. A sign in the room said that the fire was prepared to light for our convenience, however, that wasn't the case at all. I ended up putting in the kindling, paper, and log to get a fire going. The nice thing, is that the wood was nice and dry, and took right off, so it didn't require a lot of messing around with. The room also had a cd player and speakers with nice relaxing music to enjoy while sitting by the fire or while enjoying the jet tub! The bed in our room (Adelaide Suite) was pretty rickety, and didn't seem too stable, but like much of the rooms' décor, was very antique like which my wife just loved! Breakfast in the morning was fantastic!! The caretaker was friendly, and very helpful. I thought that the price was a bit high for what you get/experience, but maybe that's because I'm just an el cheapo! Overall, it was a nice place and we enjoyed our stay. I was very surprised at how quiet it was given that the location is in town. We did tour and look at the rooms in the main house (Rosenberry) and were very impressed with the layout and décor in most rooms. I would have to give this place an overall 3 out of 5 star rating!
Cozy, comfy night's stay
on February 18, 2015
This B&B is a great location to downtown Wausau and staff is friendly and helpful. The room was extremely comfortable and gets very high marks-- the mattress made for a good night's sleep. On the downside, we were basically shown to our room and told when breakfast was served and left to our own devices. The host was helpful when asked about things but didn't offer much up front. Breakfast was adequate but not up to par with some B&Bs we've stayed at, but then again I like to be up and on my way and try to steer clear of those B&Bs that offer ten course sit-down meals that take all morning. We stayed in the dead of winter, and our room was delightfully warm and cozy; the public sitting/TV area downstairs was just too chilly at night to use comfortably so we mostly hug out in our room, which unfortunately did not have a comfortable chair for reading.
Extremely friendly staff

They went out of there way to make us feel welcomed.
Cute with a Fireplace
on December 17, 2014
The William Suite is cute if you don't mind climbing some stairs and not being in the main house. The fireplace was nice but the hot water often ran out. Breakfast was lovely, just the right amount of food. I do wish they had coffee other than a Kuerig machine but I'm a bit of a coffee snob.
We can't wait to come back!

My fiance proposed to me in front of the lit fireplace when we stayed there:) It was an amazing place. We will go back. Thanks! Becky and Adam Justman

We stayed in the William Suite across the street in the DeVoe house. It has very steep stairs to reach the upstairs suite -- keep that in mind if you have lots of luggage or issues with your legs. The fireplace was not set up -- but it was July adn we did not use it. The 2 person whirlpool tub was great. The location is within walking distance of the "downtown" so shops and restaurants are very handy. We ate at the Way Back Cafe -- a very nice upscale establishment (most every table was filled on a Thursday night) There was even a band concert in the City Square. We stayed on a weekday so our breakfast was only continental style -- but very nice. Since we were the only guests, John sent the leftovers with us for snacking on later :-). We had a nice visit with John over breakfast.
Great old house
on August 02, 2014
It's a beautiful historic home in a fine area of Wausau, an easy walk to the charming downtown area. The rooms are interesting and comfortable, and the small refrigerator was very handy to have in the room. The baths tend to be small, with old sinks and limited or no counter space. But the showers are new Kohler acrylic prefab units. The main staircase is really gorgeous, with fantastic art-glass windows. The front porch is huge, facing the morning sun.....a great place to enjoy coffee in the morning and wine in the afternoons.
Stay at Rosenberry
on June 27, 2014
We stayed on a weeknight after dropping our daughter at camp, and enjoyed a wonderful summer evening at Rosenberry. After walking downtown for dinner, and along the river afterwards, we enjoyed sitting on the humongous front porch rocking in the chair and reading. It was very pleasant and the house was nice. Our hearty breakfast in the morning was accompanied by John, who sat with us and had good conversation for about 45 minutes. He was a good host, and we liked our stay.

We stayed one night at the Inn. We enjoyed walking around the quiet neighborhood, relaxing on the front porch, and the beautiful room. A private bathroom is a plus for a B&B. We were disappointed with the breakfast meal. The granola and muffins were good but we were expecting a hot meal of a fancy egg dish or special pancakes. Otherwise the host did a great job.
Rosenberry Inn-Devoe House William Suite
on January 23, 2014
We had a wonderful stay for three days. Although I loved the dual Jacuzzi and fireplace in the William Suite because the weather was really cold, I wish we would have had a comfy loveseat or chair in front of the fireplace. Having said that, guestbook entries indicated that the porchswing in the room was a favorite! If you are visiting during colder months, the jacuzzi and fireplace are a real plus at the end of the day.The room was exceptionally quiet at all hours. Given the rustic nature of the Devoe House you might expect dust and cobwebs; however, the place was exceptionally clean. No dust. No cobwebs. If you're looking for a roomier bathroom, you might want to select a room in the Rosenberry. Krista was very helpful and John (and sons) were delightful, intelligent chefs who joined us in conversation each morning. With the exception of driving to the state parks, we walked everywhere. The location is accessible to everything that Wausau has to offer. Restaurants were great; the town square with amphitheater and winter ice rink drew families daily, we loved the Downtown Grocery as well as all the shopping options.
