My favorite place to stay when I visit my family. Probably the best thing that happened to Mazomanie.

Review Walking Iron Bed and Breakfast, Mazomanie, WI

Photo Album

The year was 1865; the nation was mourning the loss of Abraham Lincoln, an eighteen-year-old boy named Edison was launching his career, and an enterprising barrel cooper from Milwaukee named William Thompson journeyed to Mazomanie and began building his stately home.

Taken in 1873, this picture and many others like it, were used in the detail-driven full restoration of the brick Italianate...seven years were spent replicating the 216 balusters contained in the wrap-around porch! If you want to immerse yourself in real history, escape to Walking Iron B&B!Inspired by art nouveau artist Alphonse Mucha, Clara's Veranda blends the exquisite detail of nature with a dreamy sense of escape. Retreat into your garden-themed room of generous proportions...the king-sized scrolled iron bed with full canopy...the private bath, complete with double whirlpool and marble-tiled shower. Surrounded by whimsical architectural antiques and hand-painted tiles, you'll savor the passage of time! Step through the French doors and onto Clara's Veranda...your private garden haven!

Step through the French doors and onto Clara's Veranda...your private garden haven!Enter your room through Doctor Kester's re-created turn-of-the-century study - medical journals, stethoscope and top hat set neatly upon the desk, a crank wall phone and calendar situated as if the doctor just stepped out for a housecall. Step under the arch and into the bedroom with Rococo gold and cream wallpaper, queen-sized brass bed with cast cherubs, past the remote-controlled fireplace, and into your cozy private bath. If you love to shower, this is your room! A large two-person shower, featuring separate controls, body sprays and the hand-made English tile version of "A Coign of Vantage" by Lawrence Alma-Tadema make this the ultimate showering experience!
This room is named for Lenora Kester, the Doctor's wife who lived in the house from 1899 to 1954 and especially enjoyed her gardens. The room overlooks a perennial garden and features a Victorian floral decor. World travel is the theme here, making this a perfect room to relax and reflect. Named after the builder of our home and decorated in the Italianate style, the William Thompson Room contains rich burgundy wallpaper, regal carpet, hand-painted lincrusta frieze and ceiling medallion. Central to the room is a queen-sized half-canopied iron bed with pillow-topped mattress. The Thompson room's adjoining private bath features classic-styled fixtures, ceramic floor tile and six-foot double whirlpool, giving this room a sense of royalty.
The Black Earth Creek, just yards from your room! Sit in the swing and savor the passage of time...
