I just visited The French Country Inn in Lake Geneva, WI, and it was wonderful. From the very beginning of making reservations, continued throughout check-out, the cozy in made us feel special. I took my "now fiance" to the lake for what was just supposed to be just a romantic weekend getaway, and we were amazed from the winding road that led right to breath-taking views of the lakefront inn. It wasn't until later that we didn't know that wasn't the great "Geneva lake" (Lake Como, actually...) that everyone talks about. We wouldn't have known the difference, because we were that impressed with the surroundings. The Innkeeper gave me wonderful advice during my initial call for reservations, and was caring and excited right along with me. With dinner recommendations of what ended up being a spectacular dinner at Kirsch's, which has "romantic fireplaces, charming private dining rooms, a tri-level lakeside deck and patio, and panoramic sunset views", the innkeeper even gave advice on romantic spots to pop the big question. Her advice was right, the moment and atmosphere was perfect! She even rejoiced with us at check-out, excited that the answer was yes! Later, I was sad to hear that Kirsch's is closing in October. This place was a wonderful addition to our stay, and whoever runs/chef at this place should definitely open another restaurant somewhere else. The food was that good. Each room had it's own walk-out to the "lakefront deck where you can sit outside and appreciate the sunsets and tree lined shores". I sat there for quite a while, just enjoying the marvelous view. To sum it up, we had a very memorable time in a place that might get overlooked in the shuffle of people who want to be right in the middle of everything. We felt like it was perfect for those who like being tucked away a bit. We will definitely be back to visit!

We booked a two-night stay in one of the luxury rooms (L'Auberge room 123) and absolutely loved it. Right on the lake, we had a gorgeous view of the water and French doors that led out to our own little sitting area. We were so instantly relaxed by the setting, we spent the whole first afternoon just reading books outside under the shade of a tree. As for the accommodations, it felt more like having our own townhouse than a room. It was spacious, with a beautiful two-person whirlpool and a large shower. There's a nice-sized fridge in the room, so definitely pick up some wine and cheese to enjoy the sunset! The staff was super-friendly. The one small problem we had - the pool wasn't open - was quickly remedied. The front desk reimbursed us for day pool passes we purchased to a resort next door. The restaurant on site is really charming, especially out on the patio at night. There's probably not a more beautiful outdoor place to eat in Lake Geneva. It is a little expensive, but the food is absolutely top-notch, and elegantly approachable for all kinds of tastes. French Country Inn is a great place to escape the city stress and enjoy your own little piece of the lake. It can be romantic, relaxing, active, or fun, depending on what you make of it. We loved that it had all the charming details of a B&B, with all the modern amenities and privacy of hotel. Just a few minute drive to downtown Lake Geneva, you can really enjoy everything the area has to offer by staying here. We will definitely be back!

My husband and I decided to get away from the daily stress and the week had not been over yet...right here and right now is when we made the decision...as we ate at the Red Geranium we perused through the Lake Geneva Visitor's Guide for places to stay that night...what caught my eye were the words,"Shabby Chic" and and "French Country"...I had not even noticed that it said it was located on the "edge of the lake"...what a pleasant surprise!!!the beautiful entrance through the massive woods...the wonderful view of the lake as you pulled up...the fact that it was not overly commercialized...two story buildings that catch a magnificent view of the lake...cozy rooms with ceiling fans for just the right comfort...beautiful bedding and comfortable...I had not slept so well in quite a long time...we just had to come back...
