Inn Details
The Wilson School was built in 1917 and functioned as a one-room school until 1965. Recently restored and elegantly furnished to retain the open atmosphere of the original schoolhouse, it still retains much of its original character and charm, including the original slate blackboards.
The Wilson Schoolhouse Inn has a large living and dining room, two bedrooms (one with a queen-sized bed and the other with two twin beds), a sitting room, two sleeper sofas each accommodating two. a futon for a child, and two bathrooms. It is fully equipped with gourmet kitchen, laundry facilities, air conditioning, cable television, DVD, and a stereo. Coffee, tea, juices and cereal are available in the kitchen. The Schoolhouse sleeps 6 to 8 persons and is ideal for several couples; the entire facility is rented out as one unit.
The Wilson Schoolhouse Inn is listed on the Wisconsin and National Register of Historic Buildings. It is located in a rural setting on 10 acres of woods, fields, and gardens, only 10 minutes from downtown La Crosse.
In downtown La Crosse you can visit Riverside Park with Mississippi River Cruises. You will be only one mile from Mt. La Crosse ski area, offering both downhill and cross-country skiing. Guests can enjoy canoeing, fishing, and boating on the Mississippi River, or bike the Great River, La Crosse River, and Elroy-Sparta Trails. Visit the Upper Mississippi River Natural Wildlife and Bird Refuge. The Inn is also near Amish Country, Valley View Mall Shopping Area, and antique shops.
