Wildernest Inn

We just celebrated our 7 year anniversary with a weekend at Wildernest Inn. What a wonderful place! It was our first time ever at a B&B and this place has set the standard very high. The bears were roaming the area quite frequently. They provide a lot of entertainment. There is no television show that will offer you more entertainment than those animals. The hosts are wonderful, we instantly felt like we were part of their family. We cannot wait to make a trip back!

We loved the Wildernest cabin! It is a very peaceful and private place to get away from everything. The only noise you hear is yourself and the relaxing sounds of nature. The only "problem" wasn't really a problem. There were lots of cobwebs in the cabin. Now I know you are thinking, well of course there are cobwebs in a cabin. I just don't like cobwebs. Cathy assured me this is not the "norm". This however did not take away any of the pleasure we had at the cabin - it just made it feel even more rustic. It's all good. When you make your reservation to stay at the cabin, make sure you also make reservation for dinner at least one night at the Inn. The food is exquisite and very plentiful. And I bet you will see at least one bear while dining there. It is important that you make sure you bring your supplies (food, etc) with you. Don't wait until you get there (like we did) as the closest town is about 12 miles or so away. We highly recommend staying at the Wildernest cabin. We would definitely go back and stay again.

Our fall visit to the Wildernest Inn last year was our first time ever staying at a B&B. Kathy & Stewart really made us feel at home. What a beautiful home they have. We are planning a trip back this fall to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. The view from the inn and the wildlife are incredible. We love WV, and the Wildernest Inn is the best of the best.

If you like a comfortable bed, great food, great scenery, and close encounters with wildlife, This place is a MUST! Everything you could ever want in a bed and breakfast and SO MUCH MORE! The food was great! The Pery Pery Chicken and the Eggs Benedict were among our favorites. The room had the most amazing view! The entire inn was clean and comfortable. We stayed in Heaven's View. The no entry privacy policy (by the inn keepers) worked great for us, as we are not the tidiest of people. Kathy and Stewart are passionate and knowledgeable about the black bears that visit their property and use their deck as a lounge and crossing area. We stayed for five nights and wished it could have been longer. Kathy and Stewart were welcoming hosts who were often asking us if there was anything we needed. Other than an occasional libation we didn't need to ask for anything! Everything we needed or wanted was always there when they said it would be. YOU WILL get an education on black bears and much more if you visit this inn! My husband and I were fascinated by all the stories and information Stewart and Kathy shared with us. From growing up and living in Africa, scuba diving instruction in Puerto Rico, to this amazing wildlife refuge, these two people have really seen and experienced more than anyone we have ever met. We will return for sure!!!

From the moment we arrived and met our hosts Kathy and Stewart we knew this was going to be a very special experience they were so warm and friendly and the location was just heavenly. The view from our room was so special we couldn't wait to wake up !! We had booked breakfast and dinner both were great, we met some great people and some even greater wildlife. They describe it as their little piece of heaven it was a much bigger piece than that. Our only grumble was, we hadn't booked long enough and just did not want to leave, luckily Stewart was in no hurry to make us go !! Nick and Jan England

This place is special. The rooms are comfortable, the food is delicious and the owners welcoming. But the real draw about this place is the amazing wildlife. You see bears, birds, raccoons and dear while sipping a glass of wine from the comfort of the balcony. Well worth the pleasant drive!

This is a beautiful B&B in the mountains of West Virginia, a convenient drive from Alexandria, VA, surrounded by wildlife, making it an ideal weekend getaway.

Outstanding place to stay, the wildlife was incredible. I've never seen so many deer. Every evening we were treated to wild bears outside that made this an unforgettable experience.

Wonderful accommodations and exceptional hosts. The serenity and peacefulness of being on top of the mountain was exceptional. Kathy and Stewart's breakfast and dinners were not only tantalizing to our taste buds but all organic. Having dinner provided allowed us to stay put and not go scrounging for food. The beds and views were breath taking but the bears added pure delight to our stay. it was wonderful to see wildlife being looked after in their own habitat without it being altered. At first we were a bit concerned for they are wild creatures and have the reputation of being very fierce. With Kathy and Stewart's stories and experiences we were educated and had the joy of seeing them up close and personal. It was truly an exceptional place to stay and we are recommending the Wildernest Inn to all of our family and friends.

At the luxurious mountaintop Wildernest Inn, the chatty hosts cater to your every need. Good food, spectacular view, comfortable beds and many extras. The best thing, though, are the friendly bears that come right to the back door, just to hear the owners say "hello"!

The owners were amazing hosts. The omelets that Stewart makes are humongous and phenomenal! They absolutely love bears, which is a love that my fiance and I share. I would definitely stay here again.

My trip to a Wildlife Sanctuary with Deer and Bears was wonderful. Watching Bears up close was a unique experience. Charming hosts, outstanding view of the lake, mountains and sunsets!

Each time we have visited Wildernest we have not been disappointed. Beside the wonderful view, the surrounding forest offers its inhabitants--deer, raccoons, eagles, and black bear-who live in concert with the inn-keepers Kathy and Stewart. If you enjoy wildlife and nature, you will love Wildernest.

The Wildernest Inn was the most relaxing amazing place one could ever spend their vacation. The surroundings were surreal and the bears will make all hearts melt. The Hosts overwelmed us with love and delicious food as if we were family.

Where does one begin with such a great place! Beautiful views and accompanying wildlife. After the trek up their amazing driveway you come upon the Wildernest and will be greeted by the friendliest innkeepers I've ever met and one amazing view from their ceiling to floor windows. You may look upon Kathy & Stewart as good friends after your visit like my wife Doreen and I. All of the rooms are clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. Though I'm not sure you'll spend too much time in them. The front deck took much of my time, along with a book and binoculars. You will see deer, eagles, and chipmunks (quite entertaining) just to mention a few. Breakfast and dinner are excellent (yes dinner, it's a little extra but DO IT). If you walk away hungry it's your fault. Beer and wine are available all day (priced to make you smile). I could go on and on and NO they didn't pay me for this (though Stewart should at least give me a beer). If you go in the near future PLEASE finish the crossword puzzle downstairs. Stewart would be quite appreciative. Doreen and Jill almost finished it. Do yourself a favor and go. I'm certain you'll return.

I would like to thank Kathy and Stewart for making my family feel welcomed. They are wonderful hosts. If you need a relaxing getaway the Wildernest Inn will releave all the stress of everyday life. The view of the mountains and lake is breathtaking. For the nature lover there isn't any other place to stay, the Innkeepers are animal lovers and are very knowledgeable about the wildlife that resides in the area. We are going to return to the Inn very soon. I can not thank you enough for your hospitality.

The wild in Wildernest is short for the wildlife that abounds around the inn. The hosts were helpful with their tourism advice. The other weekend guests were frequent guests of that Inn.

Five couples & a single celebrated my sister's 60th birthday.Everything was perfect from the gracious hosts,food,rooms, communicating with nature and just relaxation.Thanks Stewart and Cathy.

My husband and I have been here 4 times and love it. Gorgeous settings, gracious hosts, delicious food, great hikes on property and great wildlife viewing met all of our requirements in looking for a B&B. We are in of another fix soon! Kathy and Stuart are awesome!

If you are planning a quick getaway weekend where you can enjoy scenic hikes and canoe trips down the Potomac River as well as curl up with a good book on a wraparound deck that provides spectacular views of the mountains and rivers of West Virginia, the Wildernest Inn is for you. What’s more, guests have the incredible opportunity of seeing all kinds of wildlife up close including colorful yellow finches, perigran falcons, eagles, white deer, etc. and most important, black bears! The inn itself is very homey and comfortable, and the breakfasts, prepared by the innkeepers, Kathy and Stewart, are delicious and sizeable. The optional dinner, which includes a nice glass of wine to accompany Kathy’s tasty cuisine, is highly recommended and well worth the price. The Wildernest Inn is by far my favorite place to get away to.Kathy and Stewart make you feel right at home.The scenery is absolutely beautiful.Definitely a little piece of heaven.The deer and bear cubs can keep you entertained for hours.You will be glad you made the trip to the Wildernest Inn.And say hi to Kathy and Stewart from us.

We are very happy to have discovered this inn! We will definitely plan on a return here. The woods and lake provide a great place for hiking or bird watching. And the inn itself is a jewel: excellent food and a comfortable space with gracious hosts.

The inn and the surrounding area were more beautiful than I had expected. The peacefullness of the land and the breathtaking views were just what we were looking for. You couldn't ask for friendlier hosts than Stewart and Kathy. They make you feel right at home and take exceptional care of all who stay with them. Thanks for a great weekend!

Many, many thanks for your kind words! This weekend due to 12 inches of snow and the abrupt end to outdoor "maintenance" and extension of the deck, we've started the complete redecorating of the rooms. Two left!! Thank you snow, I had Stewart indoors to help with painting, installing bathroom fixtures etc!! They look sooooo much better and more in keeping with our "nature oriented" Inn. I am really excited welcoming the first guest to see the rooms! Three returning guests on Thursday, hope they'll love the changes! Now to decide on new room names.... not an easy task. I'm leaning toward Native American bear/nature names. Stewart not so easy to persuade! Any suggestion? Thank you once again..... we hope to welcome you again?-)

Our second trip to the inn was every bit as memorable as our first five years ago. Wonderful hosts, wonderful inn! This is a very beautiful part of the country, and this property is everything you would think this area should offer- peaceful suroundings, beautiful views, and abundant wildlife.
