    Rustic Get-Away

    July 28, 2011

If you're expecting a regular, run-of-the-mill B & B experience, you will not find it here. We loved the Betty Macdonald Farm B & B because it WAS such a unique experience! My husband and I love history and this place has plenty! The farm is situated on a stunning piece of Vashon Island and Judith (the innkeeper) keeps the flowers blooming and the refrigerator full of farm eggs, yogurt, Half and Half, English muffins, and butter & jam. We brought our own coffee and were able to make and eat breakfast at our leisure. The deck on the loft faces Mt. Rainier and the Douglas Fir tree hosts a pair of Bald Eagles. You'll have to climb stairs to get to the attic/loft of the barn, so be forewarned. It's old, it's rustic, and it's a wonderful adventure. We'll be back!

    A Trip Back In Time

    July 15, 2010

As I stood on the ferry's deck I saw Mount Rainier to the South and Vashon Island beckoning me home. Due to a fortuitously modest water table, development on this getaway oasis has remained quite modest. The result is an unparalleled country experience minutes from Seattle. Being a guy, I didn't bring any pots and pans or condiments, but everything was furnished with the cottage. A television, CD player, and internet Wi-fi was available, but I found myself spending more time reading and exploring the island. Since I wake up slowly on vacation, it was a relief that my wife and I were able to make our own breakfast and dine on our deck overlooking Puget Sound in mid-morning. Ms. Lawrence was a friendly and informative host, but gave us plenty of privacy during our stay. My wife loved the experience of sitting in the bath tub and seeing eagles, wild flowers, and a forest through the window. After a couple of idyllic and restorative days we found ourselves reluctantly packing our bags to return to the city. We both made a vow to stay much longer next time.

    Its like coming home!

    July 14, 2010

We have been coming to The Betty McDonald Farm for over 20 years. It never ceases to amaze me with the beauty of each season touching every part of the Farm. My first words are ALWAYS "Oh my gosh!!! Its so lovely!".. The new curtains, the fresh flowers, spotless kitchen, private cooking facilities. On this visit I couldn't help but notice the jasmine blooming, sweet peas, raspberry and roses climbing an arbor TOGETHER! And of course the eagles nesting in the trees as I view Puget Sound and Mount Rainier! How Judith keeps every detail so fresh is always beyond me! The linens, the robes, the thick rugs under foot! All this with an eye on preserving the environment! WOW!!!

    Fabulous!

    July 14, 2010

What a special place - so unique and lovely. So enjoyed talking with the innkeeper, Judith, who was very gracious and interesting. If the view of the water and Mt Rainier emblazoned by an amazing sunrise wasn't enough - there is an eagle family nesting in the tree right in front of us! It wasn't just a nice place to stay - it was an experience!

The ultimate Mount Rainier view, and beautifully furnished, too!

    June 27, 2010

The Betty Macdonald Farm is only 30 minutes from downtown Seattle but exists in another world of birds, green, and country quiet. We stayed in the loft but have also looked at the cottage; both are cozily furnished and designed so you feel as though you are a in a delicious shelter magazine's pages. Don't miss taking a bath in the cottage's bathtub with the perfect Mount Rainier view. When you arrive you may love it so much that you have not the slightest interest in going anyhwere on Vashon Island. The farm buildings are fascinating, the delightful innkeeper provides you with lovely breakfast materials and leaves you, graciously, to your own devices. With the exquisite view of Mount Rainier, the water and, in the spring, the nesting eagles you may never want to leave again.

Absolutely beautiful and peaceful on this little green island. A view of the mountain and the bay and the snuggest little bower a couple could wish for!

    Valentine's Day gift

    March 26, 2009

Judith has been a longtime family friend. My wife gave to me a weekend at the farm with her as a Valentine's gift, so of course my revew might seem biased. The truth is that Judith has put a lot of blood sweat and tears into making the farm a place to relax. It is so quiet, romantic, charming and cozy at the farm, and theviews are to wonderful. Do yourself a favor and book atleast two nights, because you will want to enjoy the relaxation you get, for as long as you can. Great place to be regardless of the weather, because of the beauty and comfort. Judith is an absolute sweetheart of an innkeeper, and goes to great lengths to make your stay memorable. Super cozy beds, warm touches of character and detail, views and plantings make this a great place to get away from the everyday stuff.
