Beautiful B & B

5 on September 27, 2014

This was a wonderful haven in a beautifully restored mansion. Glen and Brenda were very attentive to our needs. Restaurants were only a block away and on our last morning Brenda packed an outstanding breakfast to go as we left early to catch the clipper.

Innkeeper Response
Thanks so much! Glenn and Brenda are treasures indeed and take enormous pride in making the Mansion a warm and welcoming place.

Vintage Luxury

5 on September 26, 2014

It's stunning to realize that this architectural gem was once a private residence. All of our hosts, including the owner, Ana, were very cordial and excited to share information about the physical details and history of the Mansion. There are several comfortable common rooms downstairs, oozing with vintage charm. The guest rooms are all bright and roomy with views to the Capitol Hill area and beyond (we could see Elliott Bay and the Olympic Mountains beyond from our bedroom in the aptly-named Elliott Bay Suite). There are shops and restaurants within easy walking distance and the #10 bus (one block away) will take you on a short ride to the heart of downtown Seattle and Pike's Place Market. Overall, this is THE place to stay when visiting Seattle!

Innkeeper Response
Thank you for your succinct characterization of some of the things that make the Mansion so special. I may be just a bit prejudiced but Ana is #1 in my book!

a mansion on capitol hill

5 on September 22, 2014

The hosts are friendly, accommodating and very helpful. Our room was big with a comfy bed and and an extra room for a third person. They are located one block from the bus and getting to downtown was easy. Continental breakfast is actually big and will keep you going all morning. All that and the house is gorgeous, too.

A fabulous B&B!

4.6 on September 15, 2014

I was fortunate enough to be able to get a single night stay at this fabulous B&B. There is nothing negative to speak of. The owner is very accommodating and extremely pleasant. The house and grounds are beautiful! I no longer have any desire to stay at one of the overrated/over priced big name hotels in downtown.

Great Stay

5 on September 12, 2014

Enjoyed our stay. Very nicely run B&B. Brenda was great!

It's a Must Stay!!! I would go back in a second!

5 on September 06, 2014

We had a great time! Lovely property in historic Capitol Hill. Anna was very sweet, and always accommodating and helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to see Seattle from a locals perspective. It's only a 10 minute bus ride to downtown too.

Best B&B We've Ever Stayed At!

5 on September 05, 2014

We stayed in Seattle from August 27-30 over three nights. The room was amazing. Brenda was fantastic and made a wicked Wife Saver breakfast as well there were continental options too. The B&B was in a great part of town easy to park, get around by transit, and close to all amenities. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend a stay here. If we are ever in Seattle again, we will definitely stay here. And what a wonderful ambiance. We loved it!

Fabulous Bed & Breakfast

5 on September 03, 2014

From the person who owns it to the managers, this place is a fabulous place to stay in Seattle. Located in a quiet neighborhood but within easy walking distance to shops and restaurants.

Beautiful B&B

5 on August 25, 2014

Ana and Brenda were very hospitable and the home was absolutely beautiful!! Location is just enough out of the crazy busy city of Seattle, but close enough to jump on the bus to get you downtown.

Lovely B and B

5 on August 20, 2014

This was our second time staying at the mansion. We like the convenience of being able to park on the street and all the lovely homes surrounding it . Brenda is always accommodating and happy to see us. The breakfast is delicious with plenty of different food choices. The grounds are beautiful and the proximity to downtown make it a lovely walk for us. We will stay there again next time we are in Seattle.

Wonderful stay in Seattle

4.4 on August 18, 2014

We loved the atmosphere of the beautiful restored mansion. So relaxing to sit in the public rooms, or sit on the porch even in the rain. Lovely large rooms with very comfortable beds, very clean bathrooms with plentiful hot water. Such a wonderful place to come back to after a busy downtown Seattle tourist day. We will be back. Thank you for such a nice experience.

Charm and location

4.4 on August 17, 2014

This B&B did not make any promises it didn't keep. The inn is gorgeous, with plenty of spaces to relax in. The innkeepers were welcoming and continually helpful. When we realized we had forgotten something and contacted them from home, they packaged and mailed it to us right away. The nearby park and gardens are a plus, and there are more than several good restaurants within easy walking distance. We would happily return.

Charming house and people

5 on August 16, 2014

Very charming mansion/home with great character. We had an excellent and peaceful stay. Breakfast was amazing and the staff was friendly and helpful. The owner was very nice and made us feel right at home. Our room was quiet and spacious. The bathroom was remodeled and nice. Plenty of areas throughout the home to explore and sip coffee that was provided. Great customer service. A+. Thanks and God bless.

Top notch select registry inn

4.2 on August 02, 2014

Wonderful location with good public transit to all the key places and a great restaurant area nearby. Also great common rooms (especially the sun room). For a buffet breakfast, top notch.

Best bed and breakfast

5 on July 28, 2014

This was the most relaxing bed and breakfast we have ever stayed at. They were so friendly and made us feel welcomed. Great organic coffee!

Great stay at B&B

4.8 on July 25, 2014

We were in Seattle for my sister's wedding and enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was included and was a delightful surprise of deliciousness every day. The B&B was easy to walk to downtown or take public transportation.

Great B&B to stay in Seattle

3.8 on July 11, 2014

Ana is a great and warm host. We would come back anytime. Neghborhood is nice. Parking is free.

Elegant B&B

4.4 on June 28, 2014

The house is huge, elegant and interesting. Searching in the library, which contains a lot of old and new books, may give you new knowledge about Seattle`s history.

Superb place to stay

5 on June 27, 2014

I couldnt imagine staying anywhere else in Seattle. The hosts were so friendly, the rooms very large and quiet, the breakfast delightful. Capital Hill neighbourhood is a great home base to explore the wonderful cuty of Seattle

A home away from home

5 on June 26, 2014

If we ever come back to Seattle, we will surely stay again at Shafer Baillie Mansion. Our stay was just perfect, the breakfast outstanding. Brenda and Glen made us feel at home.

Seattle Trip

3.6 on June 17, 2014

Good location and fantastic hosts but note that children are allowed at this B&B. Not a deal breaker but babies do tend to cry at times during the night.

Best B & B

5 on May 26, 2014

You won't find a better property in Seattle for value, service and room quality. D Schimka 5/14

will definitely return

Great place. Equisit furnishings. Very pleasant staff.

Like checking into heaven

5 on May 15, 2014

My sister and I loved our stay at the Shafer Baillie mansion -- the beauty and serenity of the place was exceeded only by the kindness and service of the people there. Thank you Brenda, Glenn, and Anna! We'll treasure the memories. M.E.R.

Extraordinary B&B Experience

5 on May 10, 2014

Loved the breakfasts. Not the typical menu - more like a European breakfast, which we love. Healthier too! Still plenty of goodies though. Keep up the good work.

Rare to find such a gem

5 on May 09, 2014

This mansion B&B exceeded all expectations and was absolutely the best we've ever stayed at. The staff cares and treats you like family. The mansion is impeccable, warm, comfortable, and very regal. The breakfast was delicious and easily worth $25 in a high end restaurant. The location on millionaires row is awesome. The tree lined streets, exceptionally beautiful homes, and volunteer park at the end of the street is amazing. Just incredible. The value was great and cheaper than a hotel. No noise and you get a idea of local living. We will only stay here while in Seattle.

Wonderful B and B

5 on May 07, 2014

I loved my recent stay at Shafer Baillie Mansion. The innkeepers were so friendly and helpful. Loved my room, so comfortable. The atmosphere was very quiet and low-key and is located in a beautiful part of Seattle. And the food was outstanding! Very delicious breakfast both days. I enjoyed visiting with the other guests as well. Carol D.

This B & B met my....high expectations....

3.0 on May 05, 2014

Yes, we are well traveled B & Ber's, so our expectations are high. The Baillie Mansion served us well. Parking is limited to the street, but during our stay, we readily found a spot. B & B's generally go out of their way to "breakfast impress"; The Mansion did not however. Very much appreciated the bus service just a stroll away from the Mansion. Took us right downtown. SEA is a nightmare insofar as parking is concerned. Take the bus or a cab.

Mom/Daughter Weekend Getaway

5 on April 30, 2014

My 17-year-old daughter and I stayed in the Master Suite. What a fabulous room! The original (refurbished?) rib-cage style shower and the soaking tub were amazing. The bathroom was HUGE! Perfect for relaxing in the tub and getting ready together. Loved the neighborhood (on "Millionaire Road" in Seattle), which was so close to Volunteer Park. Brenda and Glen were great hosts. The heavy continental breakfast exceed our expectations...fruit, pastries, cheese, hard-boiled eggs plus bagels with smoked salmon, fruit crisp, egg and sausage strata and more. Will definitely stay again!

Really beautiful and pleasant!

4.0 on April 23, 2014

We were very happy here. Loved the location near Volunteer Park. Our room was comfortable. We liked all the reading material and the snacks!

A very good Choice

4.6 on April 10, 2014

The pictures don't do it justice. Beatifully appointed and romantic. Rooms and bathrooms spacious clean and the sheets were exceptional. Could here folks walking outside the room but not through walls. This was not too common. Will stay again with girlfriend

Great stay!

5 on April 10, 2014

Shafer-Ballie is a beautiful mansion in the Capital Hill district of Seattle. We loved our room and Glenn and Brenda (innkeepers) were very helpful. The breakfast was amazing!

Great neighborhood!

3.6 on March 22, 2014

We had a very pleasant stay. We stayed in the largest suite in the mansion and it was quite large. Very unique shower and bathtub. The breakfasts could have been varied alittle more. Same egg dish each morning. Also they seemed to cater to the other group that was staying there at the same time. But all in all it was a nice experience.

This could become my home away from home

5 on March 03, 2014

Such a special place. Can't wait to return!

Fantastic place to stay

5 on February 20, 2014

This was a wonderful B&B. the hospitality was amazing. Very clean and located in a great neighborhood.

Beautiful B&B

5 on February 16, 2014

The Shafer Baillie Mansion was great! It is in a beautiful part of Seattle, a block away from a park and a few blocks away from the rstaurant/shopping part of Capital Hill. The innkeepers were very nice, the room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. I'll stay there again!

my daughter and i sent four wonderful days at the shafer baille mansion. everyone was welcoming and couldn't do enough to make our stay memorable. our rooms were great, and the sheets were like silk. where do they get those? the house is on millionaires row on capitol hill, a beautiful area and walking distance to great restaurants and tourist attractions. i would stay there again.

Home-away-from-home in Seattle

4.4 on January 05, 2014

Our latest was one of many stays at this welcoming B&B in Seattle's Capitol Hill district. The house has been beautifully renovated and the staff take great pride in keeping it that way while keeping their guests comfortable. This place is a gem.

Amazing

4.8 on December 30, 2013

Because I desperately needed a vacation, I was so out of it that I accidentally booked for the wrong weekend. Cut to my dismay when I show up and they're caught off guard, not expecting any guests that evening. Not only did they honor my reservation for the next week then and there, but they gave me my pick of rooms. The place is exquisite, my bed was super comfy and the host super welcoming. It was unusually cold outside so I had been freezing all day- you'd think an old house would be drafty? Not so. Warm throughout! No cold spots at all. Walked to great coffee and restaurants the next morning. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Wife's birthday at Shafer-Baille

4.4 on December 11, 2013

Took my wife to Shafer-Baille Mansion for her 26th birthday/early Christmas getaway. We rented the King Suite and loved it. The place was very well put together, very clean, and very comfy for such a large space. We were amazed at how peaceful and quite it was the weekend we were there. The service was great, we were given a short tour of the place, and were able to meet Ana the owner in the morning. Breakfast was poorly represented in lots of previous reviews I read, but my wife and I loved the breakfast setup. they had a great variety of food, and did a very good job of catering to any reasonable requests. We had breakfast alone for the most part which, we both kind of liked (we are more reserved), but we were able to meet some other guests during our time there. It was a great experience, and I would recommend it to any young couples our age (24-30) looking to splurge a little, have a memorable night out, have a romantic weekend, etc. I don't have anything bad to say about this place.....Oh, also, go to the french bakery down the road! It's amazing!

Great Location. Great Staff. Great Accommodations.

4.8 on November 15, 2013

Our stay at the Shafer Baille Mansion was a wonderful experience. It's located in a quiet neighborhood next to Volunteer Park and near several restaurants and coffee shops. The innkeeper is knowledgeable about the area and Seattle in general and serves a delicious breakfast. The room we stayed in was quiet and comfortable and our stay could not have been better. We'll return!

Enjoyed Our Stay at Shafer Baillie

5 on November 03, 2013

What a beautiful house! They don't build em like this anymore. Looks as good in person as the pictures show. You will not be disappointed. They went through a first class restoration process and have binders of photos in the library off the foyer that show before and after. But enough about the house itself. In the course of our 4 night stay we met the owner Ana Lena who was very friendly and accomodating and we were tended to daily by Brenda and Glenn.....each of whom would go out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. They gladly provided advice and directions prior to our leaving for a day of adventure. Breakfast was served buffet style each morning providing a variety of options including fresh fruit, yogurt, granola, cereal, smoked salmon, prosciutto ham, hard boiled eggs, cheeses, mini cinnamon rolls, danish, english muffins, bagels, and sometimes an egg casserole. As filling as you want it to be. We stayed in the "Volunteer" room which was great with plenty of room, a nice period bath and it had a walk in closet. The bed was quite comfortable and we slept sound. For dinner each night we ate down on 15th street which was maybe a 4 block walk from the house. We found it easier to walk rather than drive and park. There are a good variety of bars and restaurants. Our favorite meal was at the Coastal Kitchen where I recommend the Jambalaya....excellent. Capitol Hill is a great neighborhood. We found it very safe. Lots of walkers, many student aged, some mothers with baby in strollers, joggers, dog walkers, you name it. Everyone very polite and helpful the few times we asked for directions. All in all a great stay.

Great Hidden Gem

4.6 on October 31, 2013

First trip to Seattle and I could not have asked for a better place to rest my head then at Shafter Baillie. The staff were friendly, the rooms were clean, and the food was great to grab and run. I appreciate the extra things like maps and directions for local food and shops. Notes where to catch the bus, etc. They were warm friendly and definitely made the trip fabulous. I will be recommending everyone to stay there!

Hidden Gem in a great area

4.6 on October 31, 2013

Husband was there for a conference and we decided to stay outside the city this time. Found Shafer Mansion on Trip Advisor. A really grand place, peaceful and in a neighborhood. Block away from Bus 10 which takes you right downtown. We met some really nice people from all over and had some fun breakfast chats. I had a 12 year old and Ana Lena let her play the piano and welcomed her. Really a wonderful place to experience.

Beautiful palce to stay!

4.0 on October 30, 2013

We really enjoyed our stay at he beautiful Baillie Mansion full of charm. Clean, greatly styled, beautifully renovated with great rooms and lots of comfortables sitting areas. We felt welcome and the service was impeccable. They even had almond milk and gluten free bread for us for breakfast. I will come back for sure. And the neighboughood is lovely! Loved it!

Good Experience

4.4 on October 28, 2013

This was our second visit to the mansion. I like the location, so near to Volunteer Park. Shops, restaurants and coffee bars are within walking distance. One bus to downtown Seattle. The caretakers are particularly helpful with directions and suggestions for daily fun things to do in Seattle. We'll stay again when in Seattle.

So glad I found this BnB

4.4 on October 27, 2013

When I learned that I would be visiting Seattle every couple of months, I knew I wanted to find a bed and breakfast that would feel good as a Seattle "home away from home" -- one that offered warm service, attention to detail, comfort and cleanliness, and a rate that seemed reasonable. After sampling a few others in the area, I found Shafer and Baillie and I'm so glad I did. Liz

Beautiful Old Mansion, Huge Suite, Great Old Neighborhood

4.2 on October 27, 2013

This is a wonderful old mansion in a great part of Seattle, and the service was friendly and efficient. We had the "master" suite with it's three rooms and huge bathroom with original "steam punk" shower (I was afraid to try! Used the tub!) Huge squeaky bed and squeaky old floors, but all of it beautiful. Our stay was short but really fun, and ended with a very good continental breakfast.

Wonderful weekend get-a-way

4.6 on October 23, 2013

We stayed in the less expensive Queen Ann room during the off season and feel we got a great value for the experience. Comfortable and luxurious, though the mattress is very firm. The view overlooks a parking lot. Beyond that, it is fully renovated with modern amenities and period details. The staff is friendly, but not overly so. Breakfast has variety and quality ingredients. Location is the best! I wish we could stay her all the time.

First stay on 2 week vacation

4.0 on October 21, 2013

The house is gorgeous and spacious. The stairs are a great workout. I really enjoyed my stay at the Mansion, the only negative was the buffet style breakfast. I have stayed at many B&B's and have never had a buffet style breakfast. The food was the same day after day. My husband and I would definitely stay here again, but we know that we will be eating breakfast out.

Wonderful overnight stay!

4.8 on October 17, 2013

We can't wait to return. This mansion has been beautifully restored with such attention to detail. Amazing!!!!!

A lovely bed and breakfast.

Loved the fresh raspberries and blackberries every morning. A beautiful bed and breakfast that I would go back to and I've already recommended it to my friends.

Perfect for our wedding

5 on October 15, 2013

When we decided to have a small, intimate wedding of just immediate family, my (now) wife and I found it was a bit tough to find a venue in town that would be both reasonably priced, as well as accomodating. We stumbled across the Shaffer Baillie pretty early on, and from the getgo, we were impressed. The location is simply gorgeous. They have done an amazing job of maintaining this beautiful prohibition-era home. We chose to do an indoor ceremony, as we were having an early Fall wedding, and the parlor on the main level was absolutely perfect. Brenda, our main contact, was incredibly flexible with us, allowing us to arrange the space in a way that worked for our ceremony. (For the record, there is a gorgeous space outdoors where one could easily do a ceremony. We did photos out there, as we lucked out with a 70 degree day). We decided to go with the in-house catering (which is done by the owner's sister), and couldn't be happier. We served two dishes: chicken and beef tenderloin (well, three if you include the mac and cheese for our nephews) and both were outstanding. In fact, a couple of the people in our party commented that it was one of the best meals they'd ever had. How's that for a wedding dinner? We decided that since the Shaffer Baillie is a B & B, as well as a venue, that we should stay there the night after the wedding (which also allowed us to have a room for my wife to get ready in). We stayed in the Master Suite which is just awesome. It's very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was perfect. So there you have it. Should you stay here? Yes. Should you have your wedding (or birthday, or anniversary party) here? Yes. We are so grateful to Brenda and everyone at the Shaffer Baillie Mansion for helping to make our wedding such a wonderful day.

wonderful!!

4.6 on October 14, 2013

We spent 4 days in September. Everything was just great. Brenda was so helpful with our daily activities, suggestions. House was gorgeous! Breakfast great! 5 Stars on all!

Excellent Stay

4.4 on October 12, 2013

Located in a neighbor hood with many restaurants within walking distance. Excellent nearby bus service to downtown areas. Parking was not a problem Rooms well decorated and comfortable. Breakfast is very good with variety of options and plenty of food. Sitting areas are lovely and comfortable. It is an excellent choice.

Seattle Winner

We enjoyed our stay at the Shafer Baillie Mansion in late September 2013. We stayed for two nights and the food each morning was different and delicious. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They were available whenever we had a question or needed their assistance. The room was quiet and spacious; we had a nice large closet with plenty of hangers.

Love it!

5 on September 14, 2013

My husband and I booked a night here based on the great reviews - and we were not disappointed. Awesome location - walking distance to local shops and restaurants, but close to downtown. Mansion is located on picturesque street with plentiful (and free) parking. The mansion itself is beautiful, rooms are quiet and have a "olden" feel but with modern convienences (tv, a/c, etc), beds super comfy and the sheets are heavenly! Breakfast was delicious and everyone is super friendly! Would not hesitate going back.

Beautiful Experience!

5 on August 31, 2013

Loved everything about our stay! Ana and Brenda were both lovely and took wonderful care of us. The breakfast was excellent and had something for everyone. Who could resist fresh berries and prosciutto? Being guests of the Shafer Baillie Mansion was a wonderful experience! Definitely recommend and will stay again given the opportunity. ~Anna (Lori) Lundberg

Four Days in Seattle

5 on August 27, 2013

This is an elegant, yet very friendly inn, where the innkeepers make every effort to help you enjoy your stay and make you feel relaxed and at home. They are knowledgeable about the city, its attractions and the local neighborhood surrounding the inn. The breakfasts are wonderful... the rooms beautiful and immaculately clean. This was my second visit and I would choose to stay here on every Seattle trip! Many thanks!

Very enjoyable stay

4.8 on August 16, 2013

We stayed one night in the East Ballroom with our two-year-old. A very comfortable room with all the historical details we love. An amazing breakfast, hospitable innkeepers and owners, and overall a very nice stay. We are already planning our next trip to Seattle.

Great B&B in charming neighborhood

5 on August 16, 2013

We stayed two nights - the innkeepers were so friendly & hospitable, breakfast was yummy, room very clean & comfortable, and the location, near Volunteer Park, and 1 block to easy-to-navigate Seattle Metro Bus was ideal. You won't be disappointed!

Our New Favorite Seattle B&B

5 on August 12, 2013

My husband and I stayed at the Shafer Baillie Mansion for three nights recently. Our suite was beautiful, the bed comfortable, and the atmosphere perfect for relaxing. The common rooms were spacious and beautifully decorated. Breakfast was served in the beautiful dining room, and the morning that we had to leave early, they packed a "to go" meal for us. We will definitely stay here the next time we are in Seattle. (The mansion is on Capital Hill - you can walk almost anywhere but be warned that Seattle is full of hills!)

Outstanding stay at shafer bailie mansion

Shafer Baillie Mansion

5 on August 06, 2013

Shafer Baillie Mansion B&B was wonderful. Really enjoyed my stay there. The surrounding neighborhood was fantastic and beautiful. Within walking distance to a beautiful park in one direction, and food and restaurants in the other. I would stay again. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was wonderful. Room was clean and comfortable.

We keep going back!

5 on July 25, 2013

This is a beautiful, historic mansion in most lovely neighborhood in Seattle. Right next to Volunteer Park and a short walk from downtown. The owners and staff tailor your experience to make it your own. We call Shafer-Baillie "our mansion in Seattle." We keep going back and plan to on our next stay in the area next year. Kudos to Brenda's amazing breakfasts, to Glen's quiet kindness, and to Ana's warm welcome!

Best of everything

5 on July 25, 2013

We love staying at Shafer Baille Mansion whenever we are in Seattle. Easy to get to, easy street parking & outstanding value in every category.

Elegant with Superb Hospitality

5 on July 21, 2013

Everything met our expectations–a perfectly romantic Honeymoon getaway. The mansion was a photo opportunity at every turn. It was a privilege to be surrounded by elegant and lovely architecture, decor, comfort and hospitality from the care takers. We felt right at home and enjoyed conversing with guests and the house keeper about the history and renovation of the grand mansion. Our room was on the third floor. We enjoyed the cool breeze and privacy. Volunteer Park was only a block away and we enjoyed the surrounding neighborhood homes, shopping and restaurants a short walking distance away.

Great stay

4.2 on July 21, 2013

Excellent B&B with a great Breakfast.

Beautiful and historic

4.6 on July 20, 2013

This historic Mansion was wonderful. The food was delicious (Brenda's strawberry cobbler is fantastic!) and the service was great. The rooms were decorated in the older style of the home yet the amenities were all up to date. The only downside is the parking, but I'm afraid that's how all of Seattle is!

Wonderful stay!

5 on July 19, 2013

My friend and I have a wonderful stay here. Our hosts were just lovely and super helpful ;)

Delightful stay!

4.4 on July 18, 2013

The hosts at SB Mansion were very accommodating and hospitable while respecting our privacy. They were friendly and offered up excellent recommendations for a variety of interests. The room we stayed in was absolutely delightful and the beds were so comfortable!

A magic place

5 on July 16, 2013

We stayed 3 nights during our honeymoon and fell in love with this stunningly beautiful house. Our room (Elliott Bay Suite) was dlightfully beautiful and well equipped. Everything worked our splendidly and we can only recommend this wonderful place. If you appreciate old world charm you are in for a big treat!

Above and beyond our expectations. A MUST stay!

5 on July 15, 2013

This is the ideal B &B. Totally renovated, charming, and walking distance to everything. The food, guests, innkeeper and owner were professional and delightful. My husband and I were traveling through for two days on our 30th Anniversary trip. Next time, we will stay longer. We stayed in a 3rd floor room, with King bed, window seats, day bed, on-suite bathroom. It was just lovely. I have been recommending to all our friends in Florida!

Stop Over In Seattle

5 on July 15, 2013

Late June, my husband and I spent 3 nights at the Shafer Ballie Mansion. What a treat! Location is excellent! A short walk in one direction takes you to various restaurants and coffee shops. A short walk (one block) in the other direction takes you to Volunteer Park. What a gem! The mansion itself was fabulous. The staff was super. Brenda recommended loads of dining and sightseeing options. The perfect hostess! Breakfast was bountiful with bagels, casseroles, fresh fruits, wonderful coffee and teas, yogurts, sweets, etc. The courtyard was the ideal spot to relax and enjoy a bottle of wine. We found the Shafer Ballie Mansion a perfect stopover for our trip to Alaska, but it would make a perfect destination too!

Amazing place, fantastic hosts

5 on July 14, 2013

An incredible, beautiful place to stay in Seattle. Very comfortable and the hosts are fantastic. We will be back.

AWESOME!

5 on July 13, 2013

This was our first time ever staying in a B&B. We normally stay in 4 star hotels and were very apprehensive. However our experience couldn't have been better. The house and grounds are absolutely beautiful and the neighborhood is very nice. Walking distance to restaurants, bars and shopping. Will definitely stay again the next time we go to Seattle.

fantastic

4.8 on July 12, 2013

a great place to relax

A lovely and fun place to stay

4.4 on July 09, 2013

A glorious old home from a bygone era. Brenda makes an outstanding breakfast. The rooms are charming and decorated beautifully. The one thing I would caution is that housekeeping in the rooms is spotty. We received wash cloths one day, but not the next. The garbage in our room was removed once while we were there, but not the other days.

The Best of Both

5 on July 06, 2013

Shafer Ballie Mansion was a dream. The house itself is lovely to behold, but more than that its staff was warm and welcoming. I've stayed at B&B's before, but seldom felt comfortable to use the other areas. One rather warm day my daughter and I sat and read in the sun room with the windows open and just relaxed. The room itself was decorated in beautiful colors, lovely bedding and a modern well equipped bath. The area of the house close to volunteer park was a great walk in the morning. We did take the car downtown, but were able to park with our hosts guiding us to where we might find available parking. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Nice Stay in Seattle

4.6 on July 04, 2013

We have stayed here twice and both times have been pleased with the location, historic house, and well done breakfast buffet. The breakfast has many options with yogurt, fruit, cereal, egg dish, smoked salmon, hard boiled eggs, juices and coffee. I love the sitting room where early risers can get a cup of coffee and read. The staff are very helpful and know Seattle well.

Mansion of my dreams!

5 on June 28, 2013

We so loved staying at the Shafer Ballie Mansion. The pictures don't tell you how huge the place really is and how beautiful everything feels. The hosts were welcoming and wonderfully helpfully. The best surprise was the area...we were able to walk to multiple eateries, coffee houses and bars...and could get the bus to downtown and back with no problem. We are already planning our next stay.

Seattle's Stylish B&B

4.4 on June 26, 2013

We were wonderfully surprised with the Safer Baillie Manson as the place to stay for my wife's first trip to Seattle. The service and friendly demeanor of the Inn-Keepers is the jewel in the crown of this brought back to life mansion. We know that we will book there again for our next trip to Seattle.

Beautiful Location

5 on June 12, 2013

My husband and I couldn't have been happier with our visit to the Shafer Baillie Mansion. The place was lovely, and we enjoyed the historical feel of the place. The Elliot Bay Suite had an extra room with a door for privacy and a day bed for my adult daughter to stay with us. We loved the location in Capitol Hill. There was plenty of breakfast and coffee, tea, and fruit and snacks was left out during the day for guests to enjoy. I highly recommend a stay at Shafer Baillie Mansion.

Set the bar high

5 on June 11, 2013

This was our first time in a B&B and we were blown away from the moment we walked in. The hosts greeted us by name and knew all the details of our stay. They even gave us our choice of rooms that happened to be available the same time as our reservation. The architecture, decorations, landscape, and historical setting were outstanding, and the service and friendliness of the hosts were second to none. This visit set the bar so high, any other place will have a hard time coming close.

Excellent!

5 on June 06, 2013

Awesome mansion in a great location! It is near a huge park and lots of great dining options. The people there were very friendly and helpful with suggestions about what to do in the area.

Beautiful

5 on June 05, 2013

Our stay at the mansion was delightful. The room was absolutely beautiful as well as the entire mansion. The employees were all very helpful and informative and made the stay even more pleasant. For anyone looking for a lovely Bed and Breakfast in a prime location I would definitely recommend the Shafer Baillie Mansion!

A Lovely Old Mansion

4.8 on June 02, 2013

This is a beautiful home with gorgeous landscaping on a street of other magnificent homes. The house has lovely leaded stain-glass windows. Inside you'll find a spacious and wonderfully charming home. Brenda greeted us and she couldn't have been more welcoming. We instantly felt right at home. Our room (Volunteer Park Room) was very spacious with a walk-in closet, deep bathtub, and a queen bed you just sink into,. The sheets were the best sheets I have ever slept on. The Mnsion is in an extremely convenshortly cation - just a short walk to the lush and massive Volunteer Park, as well as a huge variety of restaurants. The bus stop is just a block away where you can catch a bus that takes only 10-15 minutes to get downtown and to Pike's Market. I highly recommend this B&B. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Seattle.

Shafer Baillie Mansion

4.8 on June 01, 2013

My wife and I recently stayed there for 2 days. The only regret we have is we could not stay there longer. The mansion is beautiful, the food and service outstanding and the location is great! The neighborhood with all of its mansions is wonderful to walk around in and there are plenty of good restaurants nearby.

Memorial weekend review

our stay was very enjoyable and relaxing. The food was very good. We would recommend our family and friends to stay here.

Spring in Seattle

Beautiful house. Wonderful owners and staff. Convenient location. I highly recommend staying there!

Great Place to Stay

4.4 on May 13, 2013

I stayed here during a week-long meeting at the convention center. I rented a car and drove back-and-forth. Street parking was always easy to find. I thoroughly enjoyed the area. The neighborhood is beautiful to walk (although the sidewalks are very uneven), the park is a block away, and there are shops/bars/restaurants within a 5-minute walk. The B&B service was great. Check-in and check-out could not have been easier, and the hostess was more than willing to prepare a breakfast when people needed to leave early in the morning. I would definitely stay here again when returning to Seattle.

Loved it. Sold me on B&B's

5 on May 02, 2013

Very caring. They went out to get muffins when my wife asked if there were any for breakfast! Won our hearts!

Lovely location and home

Shafer Baillie-Seattle

4.4 on April 12, 2013

Comfortable, beautifully restored, turn of the last century mansion. The two Innkeepers were particularly helpful and knowledgeable about where to go and what to see while in Seattle. The atmosphere is warm and friendly making you feel more like family than a guest. Close to great restaurants, walking trails, and public transportation. Would recommend to anyone wanting to explore Seattle.

Great experience!

5 on April 09, 2013

We had only stayed at a bed and breakfast one time prior to our stay at Shafer Baillie Mansion. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will definitely be back. We were greeted right away by the host upon our arrival and given a tour of the mansion. He also made sure we had plenty of dining ideas and even a bus schedule and map. We stayed in the Elliot Bay Suite and it was clean and comfortable and spacious. The breakfast in the morning was great with plenty of choices. Our host made us feel very welcome and gave us a few recommendations for our run after breakfast. Friendly service, good food, comfortable rooms....what more could we ask for! Thank you!

March getaway

4.4 on March 26, 2013

we stayed at the mansion for 2 days in the central ballroom suite. Quite a hike up two flights of stairs but the views out the window were wonderful. All of the innkeepers were very helpful and friendly, but knew when to just leave us alone so we could read in peace and quiet. The beds were very comfortable . The only thing in our bathroom it said the floors were heated, but they were not, would have been a nice touch. The little alcove in our room was wonderful, but could have used better lighting. All in all we really enjoyed our visit and hope to return someday.

Fabulous experience

5 on March 15, 2013

I would definitely stay here again! The Queen Anne Hill room was lovely; very cozy with a beautiful bathroom and amenities. Breakfast each morning was delicious and served by Brenda, the very welcoming and friendly hostess. The Capitol Hill area is also beautiful with Volunteer Park just up the street and many different restaurants; all within walking distance. Water, tea, and coffee are always available and they are eager to help you with sightseeing plans. Hope to be back there soon!

Our favorite

5 on March 13, 2013

My husband and I have stayed here several times. The mansion itself is beautiful, the rooms are comfortable and clean, parking is free (a rarity in Seattle), and the staff is so friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

Shafer Bailie 2/21/13

4.2 on February 26, 2013

Our recent stay at Shafer Bailie was outstanding. The mansion and rooms were incredible. The neighborhood was the best in Seattle, if you like beautiful, old mansions. The expanded continental breakfast was great, lots of fresh berries and pastries. I would definitely recommend this B&B to my friends and family!

Seattle sensational B&B

5 on February 03, 2013

Perfection! My husband and I stayed three nights in the spacious Southwest Ballroom, which offers a beautiful sunset view of the Olympics. We usually like to stay in different B&Bs for the experience, but we will return to the Shafer-Baillie Mansion for its convenient location, personable staff, gorgeous grounds, inviting public rooms and delicious breakfasts. Housekeeper Brenda and Owner Ana were delightful and informative.

Wonderful Experience

5 on January 30, 2013

We needed a place to unwind and relax, and Shafer Baillie Mansion was the perfect place to do so. The home itself is classic, beautiful, and extremely well maintained. Brenda prepared a lovely and delicious breakfast, and we enjoyed getting to know her. The entire experience greatly exceeded our expectations, and we recommend Shafer Baillie Mansion to anyone visiting Seattle from out of town, or just for the day!

From Arlington, Texas

3.2 on January 24, 2013

Very nice place. Beautiful mansion. Large rooms. Good breakfast with an assortment of pastries, fresh fruit, at least one hot option, and several other selections. A wonderful public park at the end of the street. Neighborhood restaurants within walking distance. Only minor annoyance was that the wireless Internet was not working the first night, but worked fine after that.

A Special Overnight

4.6 on January 18, 2013

My family (husband, toddler, and me) did a late check-in, slept in a beautiful 3rd floor room, and enjoyed a simple but well-thought-out and delicious breakfast before heading out to nearby Volunteer Park and Pike's Market. Thank you for your attention to detail and for making our quick stay in Seattle memorable. We would love to come back again!

Wonderful!

4.8 on December 13, 2012

It was one of the best bed & breakfasts we've ever had. Wonderful in every aspect. We would love to come back!

Beautiful mansion

5 on December 04, 2012

This mansion is gorgeous! The woodwork and broad staircase are so impressive. We stayed for 3 nights in the Master Bedroom on the second floor, the largest suite in the house. It was truly enormous and quite pretty. Innkeeper Glen (the owners were not on property) was helpful and accommodating. We did not take advantage of breakfast as we were out and about early, but they had coffee, tea and various goodies available at all times. We were left to come and go as we pleased, and saw other guests only in passing, which worked well for us. The neighborhood is charming and we walked easily to many fantastic restaurants, as well as to Volunteer Park less than a block away. We would highly recommend the Shafer-Baillie Mansion to anyone visiting Seattle... It is both charming and grand.

Wonderful, relaxing stay in a grand old home with wonderful people

4.2 on November 27, 2012

Our stay at the Mansion exceeded our expectations, Anna, Brenda and Glen were wonderful host, making us feel at home as they welcomed us with open arms, helping to make this a wonderful, relaxing and memorable stay.

Ohio couple

5 on November 16, 2012

We always enjoy our stay in at Shafer Baillie Mansion. The food in terrific snd we feel very welcome. The extra plus is that the B & B is 30 seconds from our grandchildren. Because we were leaving extra early to catch a plane home, the hostess prepared two take-out breakfasts for us. That was what I call going the extra mile.

Seattle overnight

4.4 on November 10, 2012

One couple + 2 singles, 1 night in the Elliot Bay room. Room accommodated our needs perfectly with all the amenities one would expect, as well as cable TV/DVD, stocked toiletries, and supplemental space heaters (room was plenty warm without) that were a pleasant surprise in a B+B. Safe neighborhood, free parking, access to bus line and proximity to plenty of restaurants and Volunteer Park make this a no-brainer for any length of stay. Online reservations and the attentive staff kept check-in/out hassle-free. I'll be back.

Great Stay!

4.8 on November 07, 2012

The two hosts we had were amazing and were very quick with email responses. They were able to accommodate the extra people in my party and were very patient with me when we went back and fourth about how many were going to be staying an extra night. They happily showed the vendors to my room was, as it was my wedding day. I would stay the night here again. Beautiful decorated place in a quaint neighborhood.

Anice stay

3.4 on November 02, 2012

The Mansion is close a lot of great dining in Capitol Hill and an easy 2 block walk to the bus downtown to Pike's Place. There is also free street parking which is convineint. Breakfast was nice - would have liked to see a little more variety. We were also called "kids" the entire time by our host - my husband and I are both 30 and don't appreciate being talked down to because we are younger than the average guest. Felt like we had to walk on eggshells.

Wonderful Inn

4.4 on November 02, 2012

My boyfriend and I spent a weekend at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. Overall our stay was great. The house was gorgeous. We stayed in the Capital Hill room. It looked just liked the picture. The room and bathroom were beautifully kept. The staff was very friendly and warm. They provided plenty of food for breakfast and it was delicious. They had a microwave, a tiny fridge, and complimentary bottled water. :) My only criticism is that the floors creaked and the bed made a lot of noise upon sitting and getting up. Other than that, everything was wonderful and I would definitely recommend the Shafer Baillie Mansion.

Nice Place

3.4 on October 27, 2012

Nice place with friendly hosts. Nicely restored. One block from Volunteer Park with lots of space for walking and a Conservatory and Asian Art Museum. We planned to take public transportation, but wound up driving places because bus service was not very convenient.

Love This Place

5 on October 23, 2012

This was our 2nd stay in 3 years at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. The property is warm, clean and comfortable. The rooms are private and the common areas very comfortable and spacious. The bathrooms are beautifully done and the linens are luxurious. The breakfast spread is generous and fresh. The inn keepers are very accommodating and sweet. The location is ideal for walking to a number of good restaurants as well as volunteer park. The neighborhood itself, Capitol Hill, is an interesting place to explore filled with mansions of all kinds. Please note that street parking is the only option and in the evenings availability is limited, you may find yourself parking a block or more away from the property.

Dad and son get-away

5 on October 18, 2012

This place is UNBELIEVEABLE! I do not have enough good things to say about my two night stay here. The building is beautiful. The rooms are wonderful. The staff is incredible. The food left me stuffed for days!!!! WOW. I will definately come back to Seattle just to stay at this B&B.

Elegant stay. Service exceptional!

5 on October 18, 2012

The entire 1st floor is dedicated to well-appointed quiet public space. Plenty of room to relax outside of your own spacious room. The photos are an accurate depiction of the property. Breakfast is nicely done. And on the morning I needed to leave extra early, Ana & team put out a mini-buffet for me at 6 am. WIFI is available throughout the property. Street parking was no problem as promised. Beds and linens very comfortable. Easy walking distance to Broadway district restaurants and shopping. Nice residential neighborhood. Felt very safe. Highly recommend.

Wonderful stay!

4.6 on October 15, 2012

Wonderful 4-night stay at the Shaffer Baillie! Brenda, Glen and Anna were all very helpful with advice for our first time in Seattle. Queen Anne room is on the small side, but beautiful and very clean. Breakfasts were European style and lovely. Great neighborhood, close to Volunteer Park and public transportation to downtown. Highly recommend a stay here!

Tops My List of B&Bs for work or play

5 on October 11, 2012

Perfect scores might be suspect, but this location is REALLY GREAT. Of the eight B&Bs I've stayed in this summer while vacationing across the US this is my favorite. Newspaper in the library, coffeee in the sunroom, a novel in the living room, and ample space in my own bedroom for computer or curling up to write a letter. I enjoyed walking to 15th and to Broadway in this safe neighborhood full of restaurants. And, since I also prefer B&Bs to hotels for work, I highly recommend this to the corporate traveller. Nice internet wefi in a stately mansion, near Broadway dining, plenty of easy street parking, or on a handy bus line to jump down the hill for Seattle meetings. There are at least four large seating areas for conversation, so you could invite a small meeting to come to you, or rent the dining room mid-day for a corporate board meeting. I can imagine 1920's meetings here on millionaires' row, and just bet many local Seattle business leaders would enjoy the change of venue.

Quiet Nights in Seattle

5 on October 08, 2012

We decided to take a fall trip to the northwest area. We spent four days and three nights in Seattle. I discovered this B&B by searching the internet for places that were within one of the city neighborhoods. Capitol Hill had great reviews from previous visitors. This place we found sounded very interesting and descriptive on their web site. The location was excellent, quiet neighborhood, close to Volunteer Park, walking distance to the public bus system, neighborhood pubs, restaurants, and coffee shops. Excellent service, friendly and very knowledgeable in the history of the area, the mansion and the city attractions. We highly recommend this place. Ask for Brenda or Glenn.

Wonderful!!!!!!

5 on October 06, 2012

The Shafer Baille Mansion is a very special Bed and Breakfast. I would rate it with more stars if possible. The owners purchased it in 2004 and have since put more than 2 million into restoring to its former glory. Brenda and Glen, the Innkeepers, are are so helpful and do a fabulous job. They make you feel like family. Without hesitation I recommend this place. We have stayed in many Bed and Breakfasts and this one is at the top.

what a HEAP of work these folks put into the property. well appointed, nicely restored/ maintained, clean, and convenient. would prefer a cooked breakfast or at least a hot buffet item for breakfast. would likely stay here again

Beautiful B&B with very gracious hosts.

4.2 on October 01, 2012

We stayed 2 nights and loved the Shafer Baillie. The house and furnishings are beautiful and also very comfortable. Ana was a very gracious and helpful hostess and we enjoyed talking with her during a delicious breakfast. The house is in a good location and there were many restaurants and shops within walking distance. We will definitely be back!

Century Old, Amazing Renovation, Outstanding Hospitality

5 on September 30, 2012

We visited this location about four years ago and thought it was wonderful. If possible, it is even better now. Upper story, third floor rooms have been added for overnight stays after renovation, the outside gardens have been replanted and refurbished, a brick patio with nighttime lighting allows for more gathering space. We love the library, the sun room, the healthy yet opulent breakfast, the attentive and helpful service from the staff and owners, the period-decorated bedrooms, the cleanliness, and the renovation of this manor in keeping with the early 1900’s. We also love the high speed internet, access to Broadway and 15th Street restaurants, and the closeness to downtown. Try Poppy for an amazing dinner a short walk away on Broadway. Of the nine B&B locations we’ve visited this year, the Shafer Baillie Mansion is by far the most historic, opulent, and memorable.

Great B&B with charm

This was my second time at this B&B and enjoyed and loved it again.

A Gracious Mansion in a Great Neighborhood

3.4 on September 21, 2012

We enjoyed our stay. The mansion has been carefully restored and is very comfortable. A lovely side patio has such potential. It needs additional comfortable seating (three tiny wrought iron tables with 2 chairs each) , potted urns and larger tables. While the breakfast offered lots of carbo choices, a hot protein choice would have trumped cheese and smoked salmon. The small wine chillers did not keep drinks cold. Access to the kitchen refrigerators depended on staff availability.

old and beautiful

5 on September 20, 2012

It was a treat to stay. It felt like a home away from home.

Starting out at the top.

4.8 on September 19, 2012

I settled my Dad into the Mansion. It was his first B&B experience and I told him he was starting out at the top. Shafer Baillie is the most beautiful B&B I've experienced. Grand stairway, old stained glass windows, large well-appointed rooms, beautiful antiques and an absolutely lovely immediate neighborhood coupled with a hip, young neighborhood just 5 blocks away. The hosts are super friendly, open and helpful. The morning breakfast table is an enjoyable place to start the day.

Girlfriend Getaway

What a beautiful old mansion. So well maintained and furnished. The Breakfast serviced each day was amazing from fresh fruits, salmon and pastries. The best! The staff was extremely courteous and always available to assist. And the beds...the most comfortable I've slept on in years. I would definitely stay here again. What a great way to spend my nights in Seattle. Thank you!!

Fabulous experience

4.6 on September 16, 2012

This B&B is one of the very best. The building itself is a step back in time with every detail lovingly refurbished. We stayed in the Queen Anne room with a comfy four poster bed and a sparkling, modern bathroom. Couldn't have asked for more. The hospitality and wonderful breakfast made this a very special stay. Be sure to walk the neighborhood. The house is only a coupe of blocks from the park with it beautiful flowers and lawns, plus you are able to experience this wonderful old neighborhood with its beautiful homes. You won't be disappointed!

Unsurpassed

My wife and I have been staying in b and b's for approximately 20 years. The Shafer Baillie Mansion was by far the best in which we have stayed. Brenda was a great hostess. The location was perfect. The mansion was exquisite. I highly recommend staying here.

Shafer Baillie

From the moment you walk through the doors of Shafer Baillie Mansion, you feel transported to another year and time. The incredibly well-maintained grounds, immaculate rooms and friendly staff served to make this a truly incredible experience. This place met and exceeded my expectations on all fronts. If you're in Seattle, this place is definitely worth checking out.

Thumbs Way Up

5 on August 29, 2012

The Inn at Pike Place was fully booked. That turned out to be a godsend because the Shafer-Baillie, located in a quiet, leafy neighborhood of elegant homes, was the better venue. A wonderful stay. The double room was spacious and immaculate, and the hosts are delightful. We would return to Seattle in a minute just for the privilege of staying at the Shafer-Baillie. FSM Connecticut

We had a wonderful time and Brenda was very helpful. Ken and I really enjoyed our stay there.

The perfect vacation

5 on August 15, 2012

My family was visiting from Japan and they stayed at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. Everything was just perfect. The service was one of the best that we've experienced. All the staff members working there were so friendly and helpful. The room we stayed at was gorgeous and so are the other rooms. Breakfast was beautifully displayed every morning with a different warm dish that changed everyday. Fresh coffee was available 24 hours along with some snacks and pastries as well. We stayed at the mansion for a total of 6 nights and by the time we left, it was like saying goodbye to family. It was the perfect decision to stay here. We are definitely going to be staying again next time!

outstanding

I shared a wonderful visit with my friend Ann Gearing to Seattle. The accommations at the Shafer Baillie Mansion were the highlight of your short visit. Innkeepers Brenda and Glenn made everything special. It is a must stay on your next trip to Seattle. Karen FitzRoy

Beautiful stately mansion

5 on August 13, 2012

My husband and I only had time on this trip for one night at this lovely B&B. We definitely plan to stay there the next time we are in Seattle...for several nights this time! The owner and innkeeper were both so friendly and interesting to speak with. They gave us good recommendations on local eateries within walking distance in the charming, friendly neighborhood. The stately mansion has been carefully tended to and represents the elegance of its era. Bathroom facilities have been updated but maintain the charm of the time. What was described as simpler breakfast fare was actually quite substantial, with many choices and a hot egg dish. We highly recommend this B&B!!

A Beautiful B & B

5 on August 08, 2012

This mansion has been beautifully restored. If you don't mind climbing stairs, we would highly recommend the Southwest Ballroom. It is so spacious, has great views of the city, and is very economical. The breakfast was very filling, and we enjoyed hearing stories from the other guests about sightseeing finds. We had to leave very early in the morning on our last day, and our hosts prepared a wonderful breakfast-to-go for us. We will definitely stay at Shafer Baillie on our next trip to Seattle.

Elegance and Charm

Ana and Brenda were tremendous hostesses. Our stay in Seattle was heighthened by the extraordinary care we received and also the care that the mansion has receieved by its owners. The close proximity to Volunteer Park was a bonus that allowed us to enjoy the Park and Conservatory. The egg strata served at breakfast was delightful. The dining room was full of folks so friendly and eager to share their travel experiences as well. If you are looking to travel to Seattle, you must stay and the Shafer Baillie Mansion. It will definitely be a highlight our your visit.

The mansion is a wonderful B&B and a must stay if in Seattle. The house is beautiful, the innkeeper's warmth and hospitality welcomes you. House is a great location, a short bus ride to downtown. Will definitely return should our travels take us back to the Pacific Northwest.

Good experience, but watchout for your bed!

3.8 on July 10, 2012

This is by far the best experience we had with b&b. The only gotcha is the bed. We travel with 2 kids, one of the bed unfold in the middle of night. A bit scary for the little one who slept on it. But glad no one pitch finger!

Great place!

Exceptional Experience

4.4 on June 29, 2012

Shafer Baillie was my first B&B experience in Seattle and it was exceptional. Innkeepers Anna and Brenda were terrific, warm and hospitable in every way. The restoration of the mansion is first-class down to every detail. The location is superb and just a few steps to the wonderful Volunteer Park with an intimate conservatory, impressive water tower overlooking the city, and home to the Seattle Asian Museum. The Capitol district is very close with outstanding bistros, bars and coffee houses. Not to miss is the intimate Oliver Restaurant. The continental breakfast at the mansion was simple but ample with fresh fruits, cereals, cheeses and smoked salmon and other specialty meats, and fresh breads. I enjoyed the european touch vs. an over-the-top breakfast typically offered at B&Bs. I also enjoyed the huge and varied commons rooms of the mansion, in addition to the large outside terrace. The innkeepers provided just enough service and attention without being intrusive. The overall ambience and hospitality of Shafer-Baillie Mansion is superb. I come to Seattle every year and this will now be my preferred residence. It's highly recommended. 4 Stars! Phillip, a frequent inn-traveler

Great B&B sorry Mansion

This is an impressive spacious Mansion is located in a quite area within what was once called Millionaires Row. Downtown Seattle can be reached by the number 10 bus (5 minute walk from B&B). There are also many restaurants for evening meals within easy walking distance. The breakfast has a great choice of food. Also during the day there is coffee / tea / cake and fruit available. We had the Elliott suite with a queen size four poster bed you need steps to get into! Great fun. The adjoining room can be made into additional sleeping area but is not in our opinion for another couple. It would be fine for a child’s room. There is a need to fit blinds in this room something I think is on the agenda. Overall this is a great place to stay the breakfast was just special and would highly recommend this B&B.

Wonderful gem...

4.8 on June 17, 2012

My stay at the Shafer Bailie Mansion was a delight. From the friendliness of my welcome to the lovely breakfasts to the size of the room, everything was a bit more than I expected from a last minute booking I made. The owner was especially gracious. I love the neighborhood; there was a quick walk up to 15th for a variety of restaurants. Volunteer Park is at the end of the block. Wonderful.

Keep it a secret

4.4 on June 14, 2012

I was reluctant to rate this gorgeous mansion because I am worried that next time I visit Seattle I woudn't be able to get a room or the prices will increase because of the increase in demand. The Shafer Baillie Mansion is a treat, but please keep it a secret.

Excellent Stay

5 on June 14, 2012

My family recently stayed at this beautiful bed and breakfast in Capitol Hill, Seattle. The innkeepers were very helpful, kind, friendly and lovely. The rooms were impeccable, as well as the rest of the house. The was the first time we stayed here and certainly not the last. We would highly recommend the Shafer Baillie Mansion for any Seattle stay.

Awesome stay at Shafer Baillie Mansion in Washington!

5 on June 13, 2012

This is a beautiful mansion that we were so fortunate to stay in for two nights in June. The area where this house is located is lovely with large homes all around and beautiful flower gardens in every one of them. Our stay was very quiet and relaxing. Brenda, who helps run the mansion, is a great and fun person. She brings the right touch to your stay here. My daughter and I found Brenda to be so personable, we shared stories of our families over breakfast. The morning coffee and breakfast is a great start to your day discovering Seattle or just hanging out. What a refreshing place to stay instead of the run of the mill hotels! My next overnight away from home will probably be a Bed and Breakfast Inn again.

Wonderful Stay

4.8 on June 06, 2012

The rooms were beautiful, and I love that we were allowed to wander around the inn and into unoccupied rooms. The owners have done a wonderful job preserving the original features of the home; if you like old houses you won't be disappointed. Brenda was very helpful in planning our days. There were a couple of tiny, tiny things that would take my review from outstanding to exquisite: fluffier pillows, an option of down would be nice, and wood toilet seats instead of plastic would be a nice touch in the old-fashioned bathroom. That's how picky I have to be to find suggestions to make. We will definitely stay here again; we had a lovely time in Seattle, and the price for what we got was pretty unbelievable.

Well done hosts!

5 on June 03, 2012

Rooms were gracious and clean. Hosts were gracious and very accommodating. This will become our destinatino stay for all future trips to Seattle. No fee on street parking beats all the local hotels charging outrageous amounts for parking. Breakfast was a very classic and tasteful fare. Love the Capitol Hill location. Well done hosts!

The Best Experience!

LOVED the stay! Beautiful views, great location, awesome hostess, fabulous antiques, whats not to like? Thank you for everything!

Great Place - Great Location - Great Staff

5 on May 20, 2012

We stayed on night here in the SE Ballroom. The room was lovely - great bed. The house itself is amazingly elegant and grand. What a pleasure to stay there! The location was very convenient - a very short walk to the bus that gets you downtown in 15 minutes. Volunteer Park is 2 blocks from the mansion and it is beautiful. There is a lovely Victorian Conservatory there along with the Asian Art Museum and a water tower you can climb for great views of downtown and also Mt. Rainier. The staff (Brenda and Greg) were perfect hosts - very welcoming and helpful - they had lots of suggestions for things to do and places to eat. They could not have been more accommodating. Plus the breakfasts were delicious with lots of variety. We would definitely stay here again.

The only place I will ever stay in Seattle

5 on May 20, 2012

We were absolutely blown away by this exceptional B&B. The location is so quiet that we rarely saw or heard anyone outside our open windows, but it's 6 minutes from downtown. The house itself is incredibly beautiful, the accommodations deluxe. Rather than an airpot of increasingly stale coffee for off hours, they provide the luxury of a Keurig -- truly fabulous. The only suggestion I would make is that they provide a dark makeup removal cloth ... I hated using the white washcloth; even washing my face several times before using it, I got some mascara on it, and then spent several minutes trying to get it back out. On the other hand, if it's not bothering them, I don't know why it should bother me!

Shafer Baillie Mansion is a winner

4.8 on May 10, 2012

I recently spent six nights at the Shafer Baillie mansion and the the entire experience was excellent. The rooms are are contextual and very comfortable. The breakfasts were nutritious and delicious. The innkeepers, Brenda and Glenn, wee helpful and treated us like family. The surrounding neighborhood is beautiful and walkable...even down to Seattle's downtown. I plan on returning for my next visit to Seattle.

1 night stay in the Capitol Hill Room

4.8 on May 03, 2012

We recently stayed at Shafter Baillie Mansion for the second time and were just as impressed as we were on our first visit. Great service and delicious, laid back breakfast. Coffee and snacks available all day as well! Our room was spotless and very comfortable. Beautiful walks through the neighborhood and we loved the restaurant that was recommeneded to us by the hosts, Coastal Kitchen. It was a very short walk away. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Seattle.

A lovely place to stay in Seattle

5 on April 18, 2012

Great place. Beautiful neighborhood, within a good long walk of downtown (at least on a sunny day). Rooms are large, well appointed, and the public rooms are the same. Innkeeper is very helpful and engaging, and the breakfasts are just about perfect in their wide selection. We intend to make this our regular place to stay when visiting Seattle.

Loved it! Charm and peace and close to the city!

Loved our stay

4.0 on March 13, 2012

We recently spent two nights at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. This is a beautiful, welcoming estate. Great care has been taken to furnish the home with lovely antiques. The staff was very friendly and made us feel at home We came in late one evening and helped ourselves to hot tea and biscuits in the dining room. I felt as if we were staying at Downton Abbey. The breakfast was lovely with hot berry cobbler, fresh fruit, yogurt, etc. We look forward to staying there again.

review of Shafer Baillie Mansion

5 on March 06, 2012

thoroughly enjoyed our 4 day stay - very welcoming - excellent, tasty expanded continental breakfast (rolls, bagels, pastries, cheeses, fresh fruits, smoked salmon, prosciutto, cereals, yoghurts, homemade cobblers, coffee, tea, juices, etc.), spacious library, sunroom, living room, dining room - very comfortable beds - close to downtown & bus transportation - lovely neighborhood

A step back in time with modern comforts

4.8 on March 05, 2012

My first visit to this lovely B & B will certainly not be my last. The newly renovated historic mansion is both visually pleasing and comfortable. The owners and staff are gracious, knowledgeable and helpful. The breakfast was as beautifully presented as it was delicious. I wished that I had played the piano well enough to take advantage of the opportunity to play the grand piano in the parlor. The library beckoned invitingly for a leisurely reading of the morning paper each morning. Overall, my feeling was that I had been the most welcome guest of highly accomplished hosts in a very well appointed home.

What a beautiful place to stay and in a beautiful location. Relaxed and comfortable.

Best and most beautiful B&B in Seattle

4.8 on February 24, 2012

This house is as beautiful as the pictures show it to be! The numerous public rooms are jewels. The rooms are lovely, comfortable, quiet, very clean, and well maintained. The linens on the bed were luxurious. The expanded continental breakfast was great--I enjoyed it more than I thought because of the variety offered and the flexibility. This is the best bed and breakfast in Seattle, in my opinion. I don't want to stay anywhere else when I'm in Seattle.

A Beautiful Building

3.6 on February 15, 2012

A fantastic old mansion in a great part of Seattle, close to shops, stores and downtown. The rooms are clean and the furnishings wonderful. The maid keep everything beautiful but the Inn Keeper is less than the building deserves.

ANOTHER AMAZING STAY!!

5 on February 13, 2012

Thank you Brenda and Glenn for another wonderful, relaxing and yummy stay at the Mansion! The girls were so excited to wake up every am to see what was for breakfast and we sooo enjoyed our Elliot Bay room -- perfect for all 4 of us! Thanks again for all of your warm hospitality and help! See you again in March! Cassie

Lovely B&B

3.6 on January 30, 2012

The mansion was beautiful, cozy and enchanting. We stayed only one night, but for that amount of time, it felt like we were in a different time or someplace other than beautiful Seattle. The surrounding area was charming and inviting, especially with all the snow that fell during our stay. We wouldn't mind staying there again!

Brenda and Glen were fantastic, gracious hosts!

4.4 on January 30, 2012

Just wanted to send a few words praise about Brenda and Glen, who were both wonderful

Charming, gracious describes Shafer-Baillie and its host

4.6 on January 18, 2012

The Shafer-Baillie Mansion is by far the best B&B on Seattle's Capital Hill (we've stayed at at least four others, which shall remain nameless). Entering the front gate, you feel like you're stepping back in time, but the hospitality is all 21st century, from the room amenities to the info on what to do in Seattle to the decadent Dilettante chocolate beans on the sideboard and the always-available coffee, tea, fruit and sweets. And the beds---oh, the lovely silky sheets! HZ, Atlanta

Great B&B

4.4 on December 26, 2011

The B&B has a great location being walking distance to good food and close to downtown. Service was excellent, rooms very clean and my wife loved the period decore. We would highly recommend a stay.

Lovely setting for a lovely stay

4.8 on December 25, 2011

We had our small family wedding at the Shafer Baillie Mansion this past week. The setting was gorgeous and personal. The staff were incredibly helpful and easy to work with. We stayed the night after the wedding and found the rooms luxurious and immaculate. In other words, it was perfect.

hidden treasure in capitol hill

4.0 on December 10, 2011

we spent 5 nights at shafer baillie and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. the rooms are beautifully furnished with authentic period furniture, the bathrooms upgraded, spacious and modern. by keeping the main floor as public area, you can relax in the gorgeous living room, library, or sun room and the excellent breakfast is served in the enormous dining room. the mansion is a showpiece and set amidst a neighborhood filled with historical homes. very conveniently located--it is a gem!

A great getaway

4.8 on December 09, 2011

This charming old mansion has been renovated to perfection. The room was spotless, welcoming and very comfortable. The bathroom sparkled and was not at all fussy or over-decorated. The breakfast defies description: it would discourage lunch for most normal eaters! The staff was very attentive, with just the right level of friendliness and involvement. We would definitely go back for another visit.

Great place in Seattle

4.8 on December 08, 2011

This B&B in the Capitol hill area of Seattle is a real gem. We spent 3 nights on a short snowshoe holiday in December 2011. Friendly people, comfy rooms, fun neighborhood, easy walk to downtown and easy to take a bus or cab back up the hill. Home is beautiful with an interesting history. Food plentiful and delicious.

Great intro to Seattle

4.8 on December 07, 2011

My husband & I stayed on 11/22/11 for one night. We were flying in from the east coast and the staff at the inn accomidated our late check in and even reccomended a few resturants in the area which was greatly apperciated after a long day of travel. Room was clean and the bed comfy. Next time we head out to Seattle, we will make a point to stay here again.

Wonderful place to stay

4.8 on December 06, 2011

We had a wonderful time. This home has been lovingly restored and I felt like the Duchess of the Manor. The location was also fantastic. Glenn and Anna made us feel so welcome and helped us learn our way around town. We participated in the Seattle Marathon, so they arranged food for our early start and researched how we could best get to the start of the race. Most enjoyable!

Excellance

4.6 on December 01, 2011

My wife and I attended Seattle to participate in the Marathon. The owners and staff of the Mansion went out of their way to assist with transportation to the marathon, preparation of pre-dawn breakfasts and extra fruit to replenish our bodies after the big day. The rooms, house, location and atmosphere are beyond expectation. This is the best B&B we have ever stayed at.

Our experience at SB Mansion

4.0 on November 26, 2011

We had a great time at SBM and would recommend it to all. The house is lovely but we felt at home and comfortable. The neighborhood is great with interesting houses, in easy walking distance of good restaurants. Highly recommended.

Magnificent welcome on the Hill

4.6 on November 22, 2011

Wonderful B&B. Without a car a bit isolated from anything other than local 15th street shops/restaurants in cold weather. Taxis reliably arrive with 5-10 minutes and it is a short drive to all main areas of Seattle.

Nicer than Home away from Home

4.4 on November 13, 2011

We've stayed here twice. Each time, we were welcomed warmly, housed in well-appointed rooms and felt free to relax in all the Mansion's welcoming, luxurious public rooms. The hosts were knowledgeable about the surrounding area when we asked for help finding certain types of stores, and encouraged us to explore the neighborhood. Generous breakfasts gave us a good start to the day. When we needed to stay later in our rooms, the manager was accomodating. We'll be back!

A Seattle jewel

5 on November 02, 2011

I surprised my wife for our 20th anniversary at the mansion, and our stay was wonderful. The staff was great the house was so warm and rich with history and detail. Ana and mark did such a wonderful job with the restorations, keeping it true to the period. The mansion made such an impression on our first trip to Seattle. Many thanks to all who maintain and manage this lovely treasure. We look forward to visiting again oneday and meeting the owners.

This is the one

5 on November 02, 2011

A magnificent mansion, built about 100 years ago. Huge rooms. only 8 rentals so the feeling is as a visiting guest rather than as a customer. Wonderful ambiance. A large library. It is the best.

wonderful time!

4.2 on October 30, 2011

the mansion has been beautifully restored. the owner and the inn keeper are both incredibly friendly and helpful - but not too 'invasive'. we had to leave very early our second morning and the inn keeper left us custom to-go breakfast for our drive. the neighborhood is nice and right near volunteer park. beautiful part of seattle. i would definitely stay there again!

Fabulous weekend

5 on October 26, 2011

The Shafer Baillie Mansion is not only located in a gorgeous setting, but is also made of gorgeous and comfortable rooms. We stayed in the Southwest ballroom and it was fantastic. The room had a wonderfully comfortable Cal King bed and a whole seating area with a couch. We had our 6 month old with us and the owners were so nice about that. The bathroom floor was heated when we woke up in the morning to take our showers. Such a comfortable room. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic. From the home make egg strada, to the fresh fruit and delicious pastries. We couldn't have asked for more. We will only stay here for our next visit to Seattle. Love it!

A must stay at if in Seattle

5 on October 06, 2011

The mansion was beautiful both inside and out. And if you are on the third floor like us there is a pretty view of the city lights. I particularly liked that there was books and comfy readings nooks spread all over the house. However, if reading is not in your plans just take a little walk and there is everything you could want just a few blocks away. (A park, little shops, bus stop etc.) And most important the staff was warm and friendly.

great place to stay

4.4 on September 29, 2011

The bed in the Southeast ballroom is heavenly; so were the sheets. Beautiful place. I only wish every room had a soaking tub! Expensive but worth it as you would pay nearly this much for most other accommodations in Seattle.

Must be the best bed and breakfast in Seattle

4.0 on September 28, 2011

We stayed for three nights and couldn't fault it. The mansion has been beautifully and tastefully restored. The breakfasts were superb and Brenda and Glen went out of their way to make us welcome and helped us to make the most of our time there.

Great Capitol Hill B&B

4.8 on September 27, 2011

Ana is a delightful hostess and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the mansion among the lovely antiques. Our room was large and comfortable. I would recommend this B & B. It is a short walk to Volunteer Park which has an Asian museum, a beautiful dahlia display and a green house with great views of Seattle.

Beautiful and Charming!

4.6 on September 25, 2011

I made a special before I booked the master suite and I was treated very well. The gentleman who greeted my party was more than helpful. I met the owner in the morning and she was also quite charming. There was another lady who was short with me in an email reply and not very welcoming when I ran into her in the hallway. She was not rude, just not as warm as the others I met.

Welcome sight at the end of a long days drive

4.8 on September 22, 2011

Glenn and Brenda went out of their way to make us feel welcome. I stupidly left my iPhone behind and they helped return it to me late in our trip. The rooms and house are beautifully restored and a very welcome sight after having been on the road for 8 hours from Portland via Columbia Gorge and Mt St Helens. The house is situated in a very funky part of town with lots of local colour and a range of places to dine. We only had Seattle down as an overnight but if you were spedning a few days here this B&B would be a great place to base yourself. Being able to brew a fresh coffee whenever you want is a definite bonus! we are alrady planning a return visit to spend more time in the Seattle area.

Charming

4.0 on September 17, 2011

We love this very well located B&B for the spacious and charming rooms, the beautiful dining room, the library and hall. It was a delight to be welcomed at breakfast in the morning by Brenda, who was there to take care of all our needs.

Beautiful Home

3.8 on September 17, 2011

This is a beautiful old mansion in a beautiful neighborhood. Volunteer park is a block away. A two block walk puts you into the Capitol Hill business area where there are a number of fun pubs and good restaurants. The breakfast at inn was delightful and included smoked salmon, fresh baked goods, along with the usual fare. It is on our "return" list.

great stay at sb mansion

5 on September 12, 2011

Stayed two nights at SB Mansion. Staff was prompt and polite at check in, nice amenities (food and beverages available all the time). Beautiful house, lovely room, nicely appointed with all the modern conveniences (TV with cable, free wifi, computer available in library). Staff was very sweet and the breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Location is great. It's in a quiet section of the neighborhood, but within a 5 min walk of parks, shops, many restaurants and bars. Did have an issue trying to find the location with the Garmin. You have to be specific to 14th Avenue East instead of just 14th Avenue, but a quick call to the SB Mansion and all was resolved quickly.

highly recommended!

4.6 on September 08, 2011

A beautiful place to stay with very welcoming innkeepers. Our only difficulty was upon arrival - for some reason we hadn't realized the owners would not be on-site before 4 pm unless previously arranged. And just after 4 pm we again didn't realize that the mansion is so large that loud knocking on the door rather than relying on the doorbell is necessary! A beautiful area of Seattle, close to the center. Our room was enormous with tremendous charm - we only wished we could have stayed longer.

Wedding at the Mansion

5 on September 08, 2011

My daughter recently had her wedding at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. It was a beautiful event in a beautiful setting! Everything went as planned and I credit a lot of that to Brenda who is the manager at the mansion. She is fantastic at what she does. Her advice and guidance was invaluable. Not only did we have the wedding there but most of the wedding party stayed in rooms at the mansion for a couple nights. The rooms are very comfortable, clean, and great views. The buffet breakfast each morning was so delicious and even included baking from some of Brenda's family recipes. It was a perfect weekend!

Great Lodging & Outstanding Hosts

4.6 on September 07, 2011

We stayed at Shafer Baillie for 2 nights after returning to Seattle on our Alaskan cruise. We had rented a car, and we had prepurchased city pass booklets. Glenn and Brenda went above and beyond to help us out, Brenda told us we should take the bus and monorail to get where we wanted to go rather than drive, she told us exactly where we needed to go and what bus we should take, this saved us a substantial sum of parking fees as well as the hassle of trying to find a place to park, our visit coincided with the Bumbershoot Festival. As for the Mansion, the only reason I didn't give it an outstanding was that the rug in our room was curled up on one edge and you had to be careful not to trip on it, but we were told about it ahead of time. The food was delicious, smoked salmon, boiled eggs, fresh strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, coffee cake, cobbler and more. What a magnificent building!!!

Wonderful Visit.

4.8 on September 06, 2011

My husband, sister and I stayed at the Shafer Baillie Mansion for six days in August 2011. The staff was exceptional and the mansion is beautiful. We would recommend the Shafer Baillie Mansion and plan on staying again when we are in Seattle.

Perfect getaway

4.8 on September 04, 2011

If you are a " high maintenance " person, this B&B may not be for you...if you want a quiet, private luxury experience... this is your place. After you check in and are given the tour, the staff melts into the background and you feel as if the mansion is yours. You are now ready come and go as you please while seldom running into guests or staff. Breakfast is when the staff shines...I felt the menu was more than "continental" and quite varied and plentiful. Also Brenda, the manager, kept the atmosphere cheerful and the conversation flowing. I only wish we lived within driving distance so that we could visit on a regular basis.

A place to revisit

4.4 on August 31, 2011

The mansion is wonderful, stained glass, oak wainscotting, comfortable furniture. Our suite was spacious, well lighted, comfortable, great antique bath fixtures. Delicious European-style breakfasts, great neighborhood with Volunteers Park just 1 block away and a comfortable walk to Pike Place Market and countless pubs and restaurants. This is a gem!

love at first sight!!!

5 on August 31, 2011

Absolutly beautiful place! The rooms, the gardens, the sun room, everything was just perfect. Super clean, friendly service, so comfortable and relaxing. All the little details made it a perfect stay. The first morning for breakfast they even had a homemade blueberry cobbler, yum!!! My only regret is we didn't have more time to enjoy it. -Joy Franklin

The best B&B in Seattle

4.8 on August 23, 2011

This is the fourth time we have stayed at the Mansion while visiting our son in Seattle. The rooms are not only beautiful but very spacious and comfortable. The breakfast provided each morning has something for everyone and is one of the best we have ever seen at a B&B. The innkeepers Ana Lena, Brenda and Glenn are so friendly and helpful they make you feel like you are one of the family. This will be our home away from home as long as our son lives in Seattle!

The Shafer Baillie Mansion provides a unique experience.

4.6 on August 15, 2011

The house is a gorgeous historic mansion, meticulously restored, on "Millionaire's Row" near Volunteer Park in Seattle. Great Stay!

Was pleasantly surprised to find the grounds very well manicured and the staff extremely helpful. From the minute I opened the front door until the minute I left, I felt like I was very much at home and didn't want to leave! Would love to stay there again. A great B&B at a great price!! Amazing food too.

Shafer Baillie Mansion is superb!

5 on August 11, 2011

We thought the price for a night's stay at the Mansion was a bit high, but decided to stay anyway. Wow, were we impressed! The entire property is lovely, the common rooms are very inviting and well preserved to the period the mansion was built. Our room was large clean, and very comfortable with exquisite chandelier lighting to enhance the interior view. Breakfast was European style with a delicious buffet. Coffee and tea is available all the time with chocolate candies to top it all off. It was definitely worth the value!

Exploring Seattle

4.6 on August 10, 2011

We were in Seattle for our wedding and pseudo honeymoon. We stayed at the Shafer Baillie Mansion after our wedding day as we explored Seattle. It definitely exceeded our expectations. What a wonderful home with a rich history. We will assuredly be back some day.

Mansion very nice, Hosts (not owner) a little "off"

3.2 on August 08, 2011

We stayed for several nights recently at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. Upon arriving we were met by the hosts Brenda and Glen and another couple arrived at the exact same time. Unfortunately we were treated a tiny bit like it was an inconvenience (by Brenda) that we all happened to arrive at the same time. There was also another incident when we were exploring the grounds and told rather rudely (by Brenda) that we were in a private area. There was no sign marking it as such and it made us feel uncomfortable. After those two experiences with her, one of our group said that he would be hiding in the room the rest of the time and did not want to encounter her again. I overheard two other guests say things to her like, "sorry to have bothered you" and "oh, you weren't just being mean...you were looking out for my safety...". It seemed unfortunate to me that not just us, and not just once, but others also felt put off by her several times. I couldn't quite figure out how she got that job, seeming so easily flustered and annoyed by her guests. Besides that, the mansion itself is really pretty and kept very clean. I found it odd that the coffee was single serving and self-help, I guess I thought for Seattle it would have been brewed freshly in very nice big pots. Also, for anyone sensitive to smells, it seems they are burning incense or something very heavy that permeates the whole place and hits you like a wall when you walk in. We would not stay here again. Sad, but true.

Ideal location, unique property, excellent hospitality

5 on August 01, 2011

I don't think there's a better venue for getting to know Seattle - easy walking distance to great restaurant options, parks, public transportation. Easy parking too! The property is genuinely mansion-like in feel and scale - be sure to ask to see downstairs. Brenda and Glenn were outstanding hosts - very helpful; and the breakfasts were superior quality yet informal.

It is hard to find a great family room at most B & B's. The Shafer Baillie has three excellent rooms that accommodate four people. We stayed in the Southwest Ballroom, which had lots of space and lots of windows. It was only a few dollars more than the so-so hotel we stayed in last time, and here we felt safe, comfortable and taken care of in beautiful surroundings. Fun, walkable neighborhood--interesting houses and good restaurants nearby. Quick drive to other sights. Hosts give excellent directions. First rate without being snobby.

Shafer Baillie is a Vintage Gem

3.4 on July 20, 2011

We recently spent 1 night in the Master Suite at Shafer Baillie and were delighted at the size of the suite - it was spacious and comfortable. There is a charming soaking tub in the bath, although it didn't plug or drain well, and it would've taken over an hour to fill half-way, and I felt it would be wasteful - and I couldn't figure out the plug anyway! (the drain problem was that the bit that seemed you would pull up to open the drain was completely loose and not connected to anything!). BUT the shower was wonderful. The sideboard snacks (fruit, cinnamon rolls) were tasty. Not much interface with the innkeeper, so if a guest had questions, it would have meant interrupting her in her room. She did come out around dinner time, though, to point some of us the (walking distance) direction of some local eateries. Nothing spectacular to walk to, but a short drive would take one to some more interesting restaurants, I'm sure. SHAFER BAILLIE itself, though, is a vintage masterpiece, a true gem of an old house. Stunning leaded glass, wood paneling, spacious & gracious public rooms - simply beautiful. Quiet, peaceful, on a wonderful tree-lined street - in a great neighborhood for walking, saying 'hi' to the neighbors, etc. LOVED Shafer Baillie and would stay again.

Lovely

Our stay at Shafer Baille was very relaxing. The house and grounds were clean and quiet and they have wonderful Egyptian cotton sheets on the beds. (nice touch) The owners have put a lot of time and effort restoring this beautiful home. The people running the B&B for the owners were very helpful in getting us acclimated to the area and made a wonderful breakfast for everyone. My favorite rooms are the dining room and the sunroom with all of the natural light shining through in the morning. But every room has its own character and some interesting detail. This is a great place to unwind while still being close enough to Seattle to enjoy the city if you want to. If we visit Seattle again, we would definitely stay at Safer Baille again.

Great time had by all!

4.4 on July 11, 2011

Not only convienent, but an absolutely beautiful location! Very cozy feeling. We were a group of five couples and it was so much nicer than being spred out in a hotel. Wonderful food, staff and service! Would definitely stay there again.

A fantastic place to stay

4.6 on July 08, 2011

My wife and stayed here on our west coast honeymoon trip. The service and care from the innkeepers was absolutely outstanding. While not downtown, the location is convenient for taking public transportation to the waterfront, making it very easy to get around to all of Seattle's biggest attractions. Would definitely recommend to anyone as a great place to stay.

Will be back definitely!

4.2 on July 07, 2011

I love the community, and the owners go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Always look forward to going back.

Great stay!

Beautiful house, close enough to walk to the water (about 2.5 miles, but definitely a fun walk). Room and bath were nice, breakfast yummy.

Can't wait to stay again!

5 on June 20, 2011

We had an amazing experience at the Shafer Baillie! The entire staff was great, each breakfast was delicious, and we loved not only our room, but the entire mansion. Not to mention the great neighborhood--it's a stone's throw away from Volunteer Park and quite a few little restaurants. We will be staying here again if the opportunity arises!

Wonderful!

5 on June 20, 2011

What a beautiful home! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The mansion is elegant but warm and beautiful. Our accomodations were very comfortable. Perhaps the best of all were wonderful visits with the other guests and especially with our gracious hostess, Brenda. I would highly recommend staying here!

Beautiful historic building

4.6 on June 17, 2011

This beautiful heritage building has been lovingly restored and elegantly decorated in period style. The rooms are spacious, the service was welcoming and friendly, and the breakfast was delicious. The Shafer Baillie Mansion is located in a great location at the top of Capitol Hill, just a block from Volunteer Park. Make sure you climb the water tower for the 360 degree view.

Great B and B in Seattle

5 on June 10, 2011

Wonderful historical restoration. Good neighborhood. Easy parking. Friendly host.

Great Stay!

5 on June 09, 2011

The Mansion was amazing! The Inn keepers are so freindly and informative. The house has so much history and is in a great location. My far the best neighborhood in Capital Hill. There was pleanty of parking out front each night. Breakfast was more than you would get at any other B&B in town and the best thing was that you can eat anywhere between 8-10am. Would definitly recommend this again!

beautiful place

4.2 on June 02, 2011

we really enjoyed our stay at the Shafer Baillie mansion- it's a REAL mansion and is fun to explore. We stayed in one of the ballrooms, the bed is one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on. The location is great, close to Volunteer Park and the Asian Art museum, just a few blocks to the bus stop that takes you straight downtown. I can definitely recommend this place!

clean, cozy B&B in great neighborhood

3.8 on June 01, 2011

Stayed here for 2 nights over Memorial Day weekend 2011. Brenda and Glen were great hosts -- warm, friendly and helpful with information about places to visit. The Mansion is well-kept and located in a beautiful and quiet neighborhood, within easy walking distance to Volunteer Park and restaurants, cafes and shops. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. The breakfast is continental but a generous one, and there is a Keurig coffee/tea maker available for use throughout the day. I'd definitely stay here again.

We loved the Shafer Baillie Mansion!

5 on May 29, 2011

From the moment we arrived we loved the mansion. We were actually lucky enough to have the mansion almost to ourselves. The mansion was so beautiful with some many lovely places to sit and relax. The room was very well appointed and clean. Breakfast was delectable! The mansion is in a beautiful part of town and downtown is a nice walk away. We would love to come back to Seattle and we would definately stay at the Mansion.

Perfect End to Month-long Trip

4.8 on May 22, 2011

Everything about this recently stored mansion was outstanding: location, rooms, service, and value. Managers Glenn & Bertha were a delight to meet and made great suggestions for side-trips.

Lovely B&B in outstanding neighborhood

The Shafer Baillie Mansion is a glorious old house with comfortable accommodations and beautiful public spaces. The neighborhood is great for walking, and close to everything you want to see in Seattle. We will stay here again!

Space and Class

Superb house in a superb neighborhood, very large facilities (both rooms and common area), well tuned piano available to guests and a very convivial service: what else?

Stay at the mansion

3.8 on May 09, 2011

Classy, quiet, seemingly in a secluded location but not too far from the hustle and bustle of the city. Everything was very clean. The excentric owners were very inviting, very conversational and hospitable. Breakfast was delicious and there were too many options to choose from!

very charming, beautiful decor

5 on April 25, 2011

It made our 1st visit to Seattle very special. We will stay here in future visits.

The Mansion

The hosts were friendly and helpful but not intrusive. Lovely home.

Relaxing vacation!!!

4.8 on April 11, 2011

We really enjoyed our stay. The staff, including the owner were very helpful in giving suggestions of places to eat and visit. There are several excellent dining choices within walking distance. Loved all the breakfast options. The cobbler was delicious. We loved the Southwest Ballroom. The California king sized bed is so comfortable and the room was very quiet. My husband's favorite room to visit was the library. He loved the selection of books and magazines. We will recommend this place to our friends and family. We plan to return again next year. Hope this place is still open in ten years to renew our wedding vows here for our 20th anniversary.

We really enjoyed everything about the place the rooms were very clean and nice. The breakfast was very good and had a little of everything which was also very good. I would defintely reccomend this place to my friends and familoy and plan on returning again in the future.

Shafer Baillie sssh...don't give away the secret

5 on March 29, 2011

What a gem! Wish I could keep this one all to myself, but that would just be selfish! This is a gorgeous home with wonderful hosts. We played the piano in the salon, sipped coffee in the conservatory, had breakfast in dining room like the elite and investigated the neighborhood and nearby park. Fabulous views of the city...comfortable beds...and heated tile floors! What more could you ask for...this family of four (yes, including teenagers) votes this is one place we will definately return to!

Stately urban mansion

3.8 on March 28, 2011

Beautifully renovated while preserving historical details. Love the urban setting. Breakfast is a cold buffet, but includes a wide variety of high-quality gourmet food such as prosciutto and fresh berries. More spacious than most historic homes. Gracious owner and managers. Parking on street.

Goodbye to Seattle hotels!!

4.2 on March 24, 2011

We are frequent travelers and Shafer Baillie is now on the top of our list. Everything about the inn was better than expected. The hosts are amazing, genuinely interested in their guests without being intrusive. The mansion oozes character and history, while retaining a warmth that glows from every room. An added bonus is how squeaky clean the staff keeps the inn. Beautiful, rich bed linens and every amenity you can think of. Finally, we enjoyed the location. Being runners, we had access to the arboretum, Volunteer Park and the unique charm of the Capitol Hill neighborhood. Many great neighborhood cafes and restaurants within walking distance. Can't recommend this place enough!!

Thanks a million for a one-in-a-million experience.

5 on March 18, 2011

The sheets alone would give this property a high rating. However, the staff definitely clinche it. They are very personal, warm, and friendly such that one feels like family. The Shafer Baillie Mansion is a beautiful, well-maintained property with comfortable common rooms where guests can "hang out" and enjoy being pampered. Delicious food for breakfast. Beverages and snacks available 24/7 and a dish of chocolates on the entry table is a welcoming temptation when you return from your day's adventure. The beds are unbelievably comfortable with those sheets I mentioned. I can easily recommend this B&B. Many thanks to Brenda, et al for a lovely stay.

Quiet and comfortable

4.8 on March 17, 2011

Our 5 night stay was very enjoyable. We enjoyed visiting with the hostess, and she was very accommodating as to check-in and check-out times We found the room to be clean and very quiet, and the bed was quite comfortable. The location was convenient to the activities we had planned and the bus was just a block away. We would definitely stay there again.

An Excellent Choice

4.4 on February 25, 2011

My wife and I really enjoyed the lovely home and our room (The Capitol Suite) was great. Very comfortable accomodations and a we enjoyed the breakfast variety as it was a very upscale contintental. The hosts are very nice people who make you feel welcome the moment you walk in the door and they are very knowledgable about their area.

Once won't be enough!

5 on February 23, 2011

All I can say is, this is such a beautiful place... we didn't want to leave. Though it was winter, from the moment we entered the gated courtyard, it was like stepping back in time. Our Innkeepers, Brenda and Glen, couldn't have been nicer and every detail was perfect. We had run of the house during our visit and every morning breakfast awaited. This is an amazing piece of history and visit again we will. Thank you Brenda and Glen, you are awesome!

The Best Bed and Breakfast in Seattle

5 on January 23, 2011

The Shafer Baillie Mansion is a delightful establishment in a quiet old residential neighborhood on Capitol Hill. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the hosts couldn't be more friendly and helpful! We plan to stay there whenever we come to Seattle!

Picasso Exhibit Weekend

Beautiful home! We had a lovely room (the Volunteer Park Room) with wonderful sheets, etc. The breakfast buffet was fabulous and the hosts completely gracious. We will be back!

Our stay was fantastic!

5 on January 13, 2011

We really could not have enjoyed our stay more at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. Our room was lovely, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and lavish, with home cooked items and local specialties. But the best part was the wonderful welcoming hosts, whose knowledge of the city enriched our stay tremendously. You will not disappointed if you choose this terrific spot to stay while you visit Seattle.

great stay

5 on January 07, 2011

Gorgeous internal architecture with character; very specious common space for work; bedroom (we had the Central Ball room on third floor) had magnificent view on Seattle and was very clean and well maintained; quiet neighborhood yet walking distance to two great restaurants/commercial areas (15th, and Broadway). Fantastic breakfast and very friendly and helpful innkeepers.

Katey and Alan from North Carolina

5 on January 03, 2011

This was our second stay at this beautiful mansion in Seattle. The mansion is beautifully maintained and kept spotlessly clean. The breakfast every morning was fabulous. I especially appreciate the couple who manage the facility as they are warm and friendly. I have never stayed anywhere that I have felt so comfortable and welcome. I cannot say enough great things about Shafer Baillie Mansion. LOVED IT!!! I will go back.

We love this place!

4.8 on December 29, 2010

We have stayed here several times and adore it. Beautiful hardly begins to say enough, and we look forward to returning. There was a wedding during our stay, and it got a bit hectic, but otherwise this is an incredibly serene and relaxing place for a get-away.

Shafer Baille Mansion rave review

5 on December 15, 2010

This was the most magnificent B&B we have stayed in. The atmosphere was relaxing, rooms elegant, location perfect, and service was superb. I would travel to Seattle just to stay there.

Elegant pleasure

not only the comfortable clean room and welcoming hosts but a pleasure just to experience this house. Wonderful!

Best B&B in Seattle!

5 on September 27, 2010

This B&B is by far Seattle's bed and breakfast. The photos on the website do not do this place justice. A warm and inviting inn... it feels like home.

Shafer Baillie - Rosebud

5 on September 10, 2010

Yes, Citizen Kane could've been filmed here. The mix of clients and staff makes an enjoyable and peaceful vacation in itself.

A very cosy alternative to a hotel

4.6 on September 06, 2010

We were looking for something different for our 3-day trip to Seattle and the SB Mansion certainly fit the bill. The owner was very welcoming and helpful about other amenities in the area. The rooms were very comfortable with added pluses like an i-pod dock/alarm clock. The wi-fi was also a great feature. The library also contained albums outlining the history of the mansion along with pictures. Capitol Hill is also a great area close to bus transportation, coffee shops and restaurants and is only a 20 minute walk from downtown. We would definitely stay there again and have recommended it to others.

"Our Seattle Home"

5 on March 29, 2010

We have stayed at the Shafer-Baillie many times over the past year and a half, and it has truly become our home-away-from-home in Seattle. Our oldest daughter goes to school in the area, so we have been fortunate to get to know Brenda and Glen's hospitality well. From the moment you arrive, they make sure to take care of every need. We have stayed in many amazing places throughout the world, but this inn stands above the rest. It is lovingly restored, yet unpretentious. Immediately, you feel at home in this magnificent historical landmark. More importantly, Glen and Brenda connect with their guests through their sincere desire to make your stay perfect, as well as a genuine interest in everyone they meet. This being said, they are never intrusive or overbearing. They have made us feel like family, whether we are there for a brief stay or a more lengthy visit. Quite simply, there is no better place to stay in Seattle. The Shafer-Baillee combines luxury, hospitality and warmth to make for a perfect stay.

Absolutely beautiful!

3.2 on March 11, 2010

The Shafer Baillie Mansion is absolutely beautiful including the grounds. We enjoyed being able to walk to the park and local dining. Brenda was so welcoming and very helpful to us as this was our first visit to Seattle. The rooms were beautiful and fairly comfortable, a little creeky but I guess that is to be expected. We were very disappointed in the breakfast, mostly carbs, kind of a continental breakfast.

A most excellent "staycation"

4.8 on February 16, 2010

Our children gave us a gift certificate a year ago for a bed and breakfast, but we had never used it, never having gone to a bed and breakfast before. Finally, we decided to celebrate our 31st anniversary there. It was amazing! Inside I felt like I was in a page from Gone With the Wind. It was beautiful with dark woods and plush furniture. A bowl of truffles welcomed us in the main hall. A room was comfortable and private. The breakfast was outstanding, much more than a traditional continental breakfast. Fine cheese, proscuitto ham, salmon, boiled eggs, fresh fruit, and homemade breads and pastries. We want to come back every year!

Beautiful Rooms, Great Hosts

4.8 on November 09, 2009

What a gem.....this mansion has been lovingly restored and is a peaceful retreat during my visit to Seattle. Great location in beautiful tree lined neighborhood. The rooms are all impecible, beds are sooooo comfy and the bathrooms devine. Brenda and Glenn are great hosts and are a reflection of true "Southern Hospitality" in the Pacific NW. Thank you a delightful stay. A return trip is guaranteed !!

Wedding Week

3.0 on October 11, 2009

The SB Mansion was a great spot for family to gather for the wedding. The location was beautiful and there was plenty of room. Any room problems were taken care of promptly. The plumbing in the Master Suite bathroom (shower) was unique to see, but not so user friendly. If the old plumbing could be left in place to see, but more modern controls put inside the shower, it would be a great improvement. The breakfast was fine for the first few days, but I think on the weekends it would be a nice touch to have scrambled eggs and bacon or a waffle maker, just to break up the routine. Brenda and Glen do a good job of welcoming you and answering any questions. We enjoyed our visit...thanks

SB Mansion is outstanding, pleasant, comfortable, and stylish.

5 on July 26, 2009

My parents and I enjoyed our two-night stay in the SB Mansion very much. It is located in a quieter part of Seattle, a bit off of the regular tourist trail. With a number of other beautiful houses nearby, the SB Mansion also offers access to several restaurants and coffee shops. Volunteer Park -- one block away -- is a nice place to spend a summer afternoon; the Conservatory in the park is outstanding. SB Mansion itself is full of great amenities with the feel that much work has gone into its restoration. It provides a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, while retaining its historical charm without pretense. Ana (one of the owners) is an easy-going and friendly person, who is truly interested in all of her guests' backgrounds, and who is helpful in providing information about the neighborhood. She has a gift for what she has chosen to do, which is nice to see. We found the breakfast to be superb with a variety of cheeses, prosciutto, smoked salmon, pastries, good coffee, cereals, and fresh fruit (prepared and replenished throughout the morning so that guests may conveniently serve themselves to eat around a large table in the dining room which receives a nice morning light). Overall, our stay was fantastic. I would highly recommend SB Mansion to anyone.

Seattle's Best

5 on July 23, 2009

My wife and I spent weeks researching B&B's in Seattle and we decided on the Shafer Baillie Mansion after reading the reviews online and checking out their website. We have stayed in many different hotels and B&B's around the country, and I must say this is in the top two. The website does not do this place justice! The house itself is a sight to see. Exceptionally grand. It has been restored to perfect condition. The rooms are large and have top quality beds and sheets with big screen TV's and cable. The house is located in the best part of town which was originally called "Millionaire's Row". All of the surrounding streets are lined with beautiful grand homes. The house has huge rooms on the first floor for relaxing, reading or conversation. While they do not serve a "full" breakfast, the expanded continental is plentiful and delicious. More than enough to get you through until lunch. Parking is somewhat of a challenge in Seattle but if you're relying on public transportation (which I recommend), the bus stop is one block over and you can catch a bus to anywhere about every 15 minutes. The Shafer Baillie Mansion is an excellent value and is highly recommended.

Beautiful House wonderful host

4.6 on July 23, 2009

We went to Seattle for the first time to visit our Son who recently moved there. We hope to be able to return and there is no question that we will stay at the Shafer-Baillie Mansion. Great location, wonderful and informative host and beautiful and comfortable accomodations. What else could you ask for.

Wonderfull B&B!

4.8 on July 16, 2009

We stayed here recently with our 15-year old son and were very impressed with the inn. Our room was on the recently renovated 3rd floor and it was readily apparent that they did a great job. Flat screen TV, comfortable beds, great linens - all the comforts of a fine room without sacrificing the atmosphere of a historic old home. The neighborhood is amazing with all of the other mansions and parking was never a problem (We have been to Seattle a number of times and parking can be extremely difficult in residential areas.) The staff was very helpful and gracious - helping with our luggage even when we arrived after our expected check-in time and providing breakfast before their normal start time. We would definitely stay here again!

Great Place to Stay!

4.8 on June 20, 2009

We stayed for two nights with our two year-old son and were very pleased with the Shafer Baillie Mansion. The mansion ha lots of historic charm with updated, new amenities. Our room was on the newly renovated third floor, and was very clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly and the continental breakfast was fresh and tasty (all products were organic). Although traveling with a toddler can be a challenge, we felt very at home at the mansion, and would definitely stay again.

Gracious B&B

3.6 on June 08, 2009

Gorgeous area. Mansion very beautiful outside & in. Very warm and gracious welcome by Brenda and Glen. Short walk to restaurants, lovely park, and transportation to downtown area. Very comfortable bed and we loved the heated bathroom floor. A variety of delicious pastries (some homemade) and local cheeses & fruits for breakfast.

Shafer Baillie Mansion

3.6 on June 05, 2009

If you enjoy staying in historic B&B's you will be very pleased with the Shafer Baillie Mansion. The exterior draws you in, the decor is nicely appointed, the detailed woodwork throughout the home is incredible and the beds are very comfortable. The breakfast offerings were ample and a walk around the surrounding neighborhood was a rare treat. No wonder they called it 'Millionaire's Row'. The best part of our stay was the welcome and service provided by our innkeepers - Brenda and Glen. Brenda has the right idea - "it's all about connecting with the guests". She is charming and a real 'People Pleaser'. Glen offered exceptional service that went above and beyond our expectations. A charming visit at a B&B we will certainly return to.

Ahhhh...bliss, beauty and bountiful breakfast

4.8 on May 31, 2009

The entire SB mansion experience is amazing. The gardens, patio and overall Capitol Hill location are ideal. Our room Master Suite was luxurious -- the bed was so comfy, the decor was enchanting and the multi-spray shower was heavenly. The Innkeepers clearly are focused on the enjoyment of the guests and we were so welcomed and pampered. We're already planning our next trip so we can again enjoy the walks into the charming, creative Capitol Hill area and bask in the beauty of the SB oasis.

Shafer Baillie Mansion is Excellent!

5 on May 18, 2009

We had a wonderful weekend. The hostess was knowledgeable and had maps and directions to everywhere we wanted to go! The house is beautifully appointed with period pieces and our room was very comfortable. The area in which the mansion is located is perfect. Volunteer Park, Millionaire Row and the Capitol Hill District is wonderful for walking and exploring. A totally different Seattle. We had an excellent weekend and would go back.

Awesome

5 on May 17, 2009

What a great surprise to find such a beautiful B&B just minutes away from the heart of Seattle. We go to many many B&B and this one is on the top of our list to recommend.

Feeling at home

5 on January 25, 2009

This great Bed and Breakfast is located in a beautiful neighborhood just outside the city centre, it is only a 20 minutes’ walk to downtown Seattle. The area is very green, with the Volunteer Park and the Interlaken Park nearby. The Shafer Baillie Mansion is a very warm and brilliant house. The atmosphere is unique and the whole house is a combination of style, tradition, and comfort. The fact that we extended our stay 3 times says it all. We really felt at home and the owners are incredibly nice and helpful. On the one hand, they are always willing to help you, you can always have a talk with them, but on the other hand they give you your privacy. In sum, we have had a perfect time in the Shafer Baillie Mansion, we felt at home, and we will definitely come back. Moreover, we highly recommend it to our friends and relatives. All the best, Maurits van den Noort & Peggy Bosch

Outstanding value

Best Place to Stay in Seattle.

This was our first visit to Seattle and I am so glad we stayed at the Shafer Baillie Mansion. It was beyond our expectations.

We'll be back

4.8 on August 25, 2007

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Mansion. I had a large family group (7) and it was our first visit to Seattle. Ana and her family were so friendly and kind to all of us, especially the children in the group. They have done and outstanding job renovating the home! Our only complaint is we didn't have enough time at the Inn. We hope to return for a much longer visit very soon!

Great B&B in Seattle

Great location on Millionaire's Row, Capitol Hill, near beautiful Volunteer Park. Extraordinary renovation with amazing attention to detail. We loved the Master Suite, a super value given its size, huge TV, and amazing rib cage shower. I promise you've never experienced anything like it. Cordial innkeepers, too.
