We stayed two days in Walla Walla end of August and enjoyed Maxwell House very much. Penny was a very welcoming host to our family. The additional room with the two twin beds was perfect for our children (15+17) (maybe for a boy of 17 a bit too romantic ...) and the possibility to have a small couch for watching TV was really good. Penny invited us to have cookies, coffee, tea etc. and we also found perfect glasses to taste the famous Walla Walla wines in the evenings. Breakfast was very good and at a perfect size from a German's point of view - fresh fruits, muffins, pancake, eggs and sausages in different combinations. The location is great for exploring Walla Walla by foot - Main Street with shops and restaurants is only a 10 minute walk through the nice Whitman University Campus area. Also for jogging in the morning it is possible to run through the neighborhood without feeling insecure (as I experienced in some other areas in other villages).

We really liked our stay at Maxwell House this summer. We stayed in the Crystal room downstairs and the room was spacious, clean and had a great bed. Angie was very accommodating to our needs--every morning she made us delicious gluten and dairy free breakfasts. She was a very sweet hostess! We were lucky to have the whole house to ourselves the first two nights but even when four other guests arrived upstairs, we never heard them! You can eat inside or outside on the porch or back patio. The house has AC but you can open your windows for fresh air. Located on the edge of a gorgeous college campus--great for strolls. We walked to town several times and found a nice variety of restaurants. We found a gourmet food shop, a great bread bakery and a Safeway which supplied everything we needed gor picnicking. We are our picnic with a glass of wine at Basel winery--gorgeous place! Also rented bikes at Allegro--super nice people--and rode the Mill Creek paved trail out to Rooks Park and Lake Bennington (lake trails are only narrow dirt trails-you will get covered in dust!). We also rode out to regional airport. So many great tasting rooms and a wonderful bakery Hidden Valley which has gluten free treats--but get a Marion berry pie--they're heavenly!! Recommend tasting at Adament and Tamerac for fantastic wines!!!!

We stayed at Maxwell House during Spring Release weekend and couldn't have asked for a better B&B hostess than Penny. It was relaxing, the food was wonderful and the rooms were comfortable. We have already reserved our room for next year.

Penny is a gem! She is very helpful and wants to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Breakfasts were wonderful and large (maybe a little too large!) The house is in a perfect location for our stay. An easy walk into town, and plenty of safe neighborhoods to jog or walk around. Definitely on our "to stay again" list!

Wonderful B&B in Walla Walla - great food, comfortable rooms, and a kind and helpful owner. Look forward to returning to The Maxwell House again.

Maxwell House was the perfect place to stay. An easy walk into the heart of downtown and the Whitman campus, the delicious breakfasts were a delight to the senses. The owner's attention to detail enhanced every aspect of our visit from the first chocolate chip cookie out of the oven to the warm fire in the evening.

Great B&B at the perfect location - within walking distance to downtown Walla Walla. Angie (innkeeper) was wonderful, and she cooked wonderful breakfasts both Saturday and Sunday. We'll stay there again if/when we go back for a weekend getaway. Tom & Lezlie Post Falls, Idaho

We had a great time at the Maxwell House B & B. Penny was a wonderful host and we loved our breakfast each morning. Our room was very inviting and the king size bed was perfect. We highly recommend the Maxwell House B & B if you are going to visit Walla Walla.

This is our favorite B&B. We've stayed at the Maxwell house 3 times in the last couple of years, and each time has been a true pleasure. The historic house has been beautifully renovated and furnished. It's in a lovely neighborhood, and in easy walking distance to the college and downtown. Most of all Penny is a marvelous hostess and a treasure. .

Staying at this bed and breakfast was our first experience at one. It was wonderful. Much better than a hotel room. The innkeeper was so friendly and willing to offer information on the area, but it was also very quiet and private. The bedroom suites are so comfortable it was like we were at home and in our own little world. The neighborhood was clean, quiet and beautiful. Very near a large nice park and the college while being only a few blocks from downtown. We would highly recommend this B and B

The Maxwell House B&B is homey, clean, and a nice quiet place to stay. The breakfast was excellent, and the other people staying at the Maxwell House when we were there were very friendly. The conversation was excellent. Our hostess was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again.

Our family was visiting Walla Walla to visit Whitman College. Although we were traveling in northwest to visit some other colleges with our daughter, we all fell in love with the Walla Walla area and had an especially memorable time at The Maxwell House. Penny, the inn keeper was fabulous. She was personable and very accommodating. Her B&B was everything we hoped it would be.

I chose this location because I am alumnus of Whitman College and I thought the shadiness of the trees in town would make the summer days cooler. We were not disappointed. We were able to walk to eat in town and to stroll around campus. My wife ran each morning and found the town very easy to navigate. I would highly recommend the Maxwell House Bed and Breakfast.

We were looking for a nice getaway from our kids and found a gem at the Maxwell House. They were very gracious and accomidating the whole weekend. We would recommend the Maxwell House to anyone who is looking for a nice weekend in Walla Walla, Wa. The best part (besides the great breakfast!) was sitting the backyard drinking wine in the evening. Thank you for a great weekend! Ben & Marisela

This was an excellent place to stay while going wine tasting in the region. We will definitely stay again when in the area, and would recommend to our friends!

Had a fantastic time. Beautiful house and great location however the full payment was taken out of my account the day before we checked in with no warning. Not appropriate the day before payday and before vacation, usually you get an option to use a different card at the location that may work better for you.
Thank you for this input regarding the early credit card charge. Since the cancellation policy is 7 days I felt ok in charging your card 2 days early but will take this comment seriously and not do so again.

Will certainly visit again. Thank You Penny for your wonderful hospitality.

We had a wonderful time and were so pleasantly surprised and how wonderful the home was. Went with two couples and we were both thrilled. Penny was outstanding and very accomodating to our needs since I had made an error in my online booking but she figured out a way to make it work for all of us. She's within a short walk of the downtown area through the Whitman campus. We'll definitely be back.

Our hostess/owner was warm and wonderful, and made us feel like special guests in her home. She joined us in conversation but was not at all intrusive. The two breakfasts that we enjoyed, prepared by Ms. Maxwell, were delicious and beautifully served. Our room was large, light and nicely decorated and contained all that we needed. Our king-size bed was especially comfortable and luxurious. The only addition we would have liked was a reading light on both sides of the bed -- there was only a lamp on one side. The in-town location is very close to Whitman College and an ideal base for wine-tasting and exploring the city, too. We definitely recommend the Maxwell House B&B for your stay in Walla Walla, WA.

Penny was wonderful, my sister and I loved our stay there and would go back again. We stayed during a race weekend we were participants in, on race morning, Penny prepared a custom race breakfast to accommodate our running needs. She even made our breakfast early that morning so we could be out the door on time. We stayed 3 nights and the other breakfasts were fabulous too. Downtown is walking distance, and a safe night walk, we hardly used our car at all.

Our 3-day stay at The Maxwell House was totally relaxing and quite lovely. Penny was very accommodating, both before and during our stay. She has furnished the house to perfectly straddle the line between special and comfortable. Lots of little touches add interest and elegance, but we absolutely felt at home. Breakfasts were served at our convenience each morning and included a nice variety of tasty treats; homemade cookies, coffee and tea were available at all times. We loved the location adjacent to the Whitman College campus; downtown Walla Walla with its wide array of restaurants and tasting rooms is a pleasant 15-minute walk.

We had a wonderful experience at the Maxwell House. Penny was very welcoming when we arrived. The room was spacious, warm, and clean. The breakfasts were delicious. The location was perfect for walking to downtown. It was a little to cold to enjoy the garden or front porch, but imagine that we would have spent some time reading in the garden if it were summertime. I highly recommend this accommodation for the quality and the price.

This was our first visit to Walla Walla, and little did we know, the Maxwell House is PERFECTLY located to visit all of the wonderful little downtown tasting rooms. We stayed in the absolutely adorable "Clearly Crystal" room and the decor was perfect. Breakfast was WONDERFUL, Penny is an excellent chef, and the always-available chocolate chip cookies were to DIE FOR!!! This is a quaint, wonderful place to stay and we will absolutely return here on our next Walla Walla tour! Thank you Penny!!!

This was my second stay at Penny's home. The first was a business trip while this was to celebrate my husband's birthday. Both trips were wonderful and we will definitely enjoy Penny's hospitality again. Her hospitality and welcoming nature is wonderful. We enjoyed ice tea and warm-from-the-oven cookies upon arrival and delectable blueberry French toast for breakfast.

We had a lovely, relaxing stay at The Maxwell House whilst in Walla Walla for my daughter's graduation from Whitman College. The B&B is super-convenient for campus, just a short walk away. Penny is a charming and gracious hostess and serves wonderful breakfasts. The rooms are suite-style, with a separate sitting area as well as the bedroom and bathroom. Nice touches are quality toiletries - even makeup remover - and the "hostess" bar with teas, a Keurig machine for coffees and chai, and wine glasses and corkscrew for imbibing your purchases from area wineries. It's pleasant to sit out on the porch and a pretty garden with gazebo has tables and chairs for breakfast or enjoying the sunshine.

We stayed the weekend at the Maxwell House with another couple for winery touring and we're so happy we chose to stay here. Penny was such an accommodating hostess! She always made sure we had what we needed and her breakfasts were quite delicious. Her B&B is beautiful (Victorian is not a style I usually like but this place is quite charming), clean and her backyard patio and gardens are so comfortable and relaxing, especially with a nice bottle of wine. The location is very convenient for exploring both the Whitman college campus and downtown Walla Walla on foot, but she does have bikes available as an alternative. We will be referring friends and family to Penny and her wonderful inn!

Having visited several Bed & Breakfast homes over the years, I've found The Maxwell House Bed & Breakfast to be my absolute favorite. In addition to a very spacious and relaxing guest suite, guests are welcome to sit in the living room and utilize the microwave. Fresh cookies, coffee, tea, and water are available all day and night as you wish. Penny is truly a gracious host and wonderful cook. Breakfast is quite filling! We've stayed in both main floor rooms. They aren't the Four Seasons, but one cannot expect that at a B & B. They are roomy, have charming old fashioned touches, and are spotlessly clean. Penny, our hostess, makes delicious and unusual breakfast dishes. Plan on a light lunch - you may still be full from breakfast. Freshly home-made cookies appear every afternoon at the 24-hour, make-your-own coffee bar. Easy internet access. Comfortable living room for hanging out. Penny is very friendly and as helpful as a personal concierge, not only for dinner recommendations, bike routes, and such, but also for all kinds of problems. ("Forgot my prescriptions home. Where is a good place to get an emergency supply?") We have stayed at Maxwell House maybe 6 times and plan to keep returning.

We have had many happy stays at Maxwell House while visiting our offspring at Whitman College. Maxwell House is a classic B&B. Penny is a gracious hostess, helpful and respectful of privacy at the same time. She has a great attention to detail to ensure one's every need is met and includes an amazing number of extra special touches. She took care to find out our eating preferences and accomodate them. The yard is a delightful place to read a book under the pergola, and there is a fountain outside each bedroom window for a pleasant sound that wafts in with the windows open. The location is a pleasant walk to Main St, through the pleasant campus. This was the only place I found in town that offered a mid-week, multi-night special price which made it a great value.

Penny is a lovely host, very friendly and welcoming. We loved our room ( the pink rose room w/ claw foot tub) and enjoyed the privacy of being the only guests during our stay. I highly recommend Maxwell House in Walla Walla!

The most important recommendation - yes, I would stay there again.

We got every bit of our money's worth and more. The room was so well-appointed there was not one thing we were in want of. It was lovely and unlike the last B&B we stayed in, the mattress was of great quality and we slept wonderfully. High thread-count, patterned sheets, lots of towels, claw-foot tub (with a book and candle holder). The main floor lounge was beautiful but accessible and comfortable. I spent several hours reading out there while my husband napped. Beautifully decorated but not like I was in an untouchable museum. The owner is friendly and warm, and seems to know just when you need her and just when you want to be alone. We have been to B&B's where the owner won't leave you alone, or where you cannot find them to save your life. Not here! Last but not least, the breakfasts were incredible. First morning included a lovely quiche and scone and fruit, second morning a rose-patterned waffle with a choice of orange peel maple syrup or homemade rhubarb butter. She has her own house blend of coffee made and it is wonderful. Honestly, we have stayed at lots of lovely B&B's and this was our favorite!! John and Teresa Keene

What a great pleasure to share the Maxwell House with our friends, who thought they didn't like bed and breakfast lodging! Sitting around the living room with our group, borrowing the bikes and hanging around the dining area after breakfast or playing cards at the dining table made us all feel as if we were entertaining each other at home. Thanks, Penny!
