Conveniently located in Central Vermont, Maplecroft B&B allows you to experience Vermont from its heart. Maplecroft is a grand 1887 Victorian home built by Scottish immigrant and granite entrepreneur George Mackie, and features a circular tower, carved wood trim, high ceilings and antique furnishings. Lovingly renovated, Mackie's "Scottish castle" is the perfect place from which to enjoy the Barre-Montpelier area and Central Vermont with all its beauty and history. Maplecroft offers three double-occupancy guestrooms and two suites with TV's, one with a full kitchen. All rooms have either a king or queen bed and a private bath, and both suites have an additional queen-size sleeper sofa. Common areas include a period parlor, dining room and music room with grand piano, as well as a comfortable den with a TV and a wraparound porch.

We have stayed at several B&B's, each has it's own charm, but Maplecroft hit every mark. The decor was well done and at the same time not to pretentious. Our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. This beautiful home was only outdone by the gracious Innkeeper, Dan. He spent time explaining the history of the house when we asked, gave a great recommendation in town for dinner, and made us feel like friends over for a visit. We had plenty of time to enjoy the common areas of the home by ourselves. Yasunari's breakfast was fabulous!

Everything was immaculate, the attention to detail was pleasing to see the innkeepers really care about their guests and home. The linens, bed, soap and shampoo's were far better than any hotel you would stay in. The breakfast alone is puts the value over the top and felt like we got a great bonus. The food was outstanding, well presented and prepared with great care. You cant go wrong.

We recently stayed 4 nights at Maplecroft while vacationing in northern Vermont. We stayed in the Elia Corti suite. The house is a beautiful Victorian, located a block from the downtown area of Barre. We were greeted warmly by Dan, Yasunari, and their westie, Barney. The suite was quite spacious with an exceedingly comfortable bed and linens. Once we got over the fact that the rooms are not keyed, we settled in. (Barre is hardly a hotbed of crime, and Yasunari is home virtually all the time). The breakfasts were OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD! I looked forward to them each morning, wondering what Yasunari would make for us next. He bakes his own breads and bakery. Each breakfast started with assorted fruit and vegetables(!) which was different, but refreshing. Each breakfast highlighted Vermont products (of course!). Dan was available during breakfast for recommendations, directions, local history, etc. We often returned in the evening to Yasunari's beautiful piano-playing. Maplecroft is a short drive from the granite quarry and Hope Cemetery. Make the 20-minute trip to Montpelier for dinner at both Salt Cafe and NECI on Main--both superb! Overall, a wonderful stay, and we would return in a minute!
4.0 out of 5A beautiful bed and breakfast in a beautiful town!

Dan and Yasunari were most welcoming and made us feel at home. We slept very well on the comfortable mattress and breakfast was delicious. Hope Cemetary is a must to visit and the master granite carvers skill is awesome. Don't be afraid to ask for directions as the residents are very friendly. One lady actually told us to follow her in her yellow VW bug and drove us directly to the cemetary. Unbelievable! Will be sure to return.

We spent one night at Maplecroft. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Yasunari and their delightful Westie, Barney. We stayed in the Tower Room, which although small, was well appointed and had the most heavenly cloud-like bed. Our private bathroom was just across the hall. It was chockfull of lovely Vermont made soaps, shampoo, and conditioner. We took a leisurely stroll down Main Street and came back to a treat of hearing Yasunari practicing classic piano on a baby grand. We slept like babies and in the morning got to meet Dan, and had one of the best meals of our entire trip! A delectable breakfast of broccoli, egg and cheese casserole, thick bacon, roasted mushrooms and tomatoes, zucchini bread and fresh fruit salad. YUM. All of the guests were enjoying their stay so much. It was an awesome experience. The only downside is we would have liked to have more attractions within walking distance.
