Mountain Rose Inn

My husband and I had been traveling up from Georgia and had taken The Blueridge Parkway from NC on. It had been a long day on the road and when we finally arrived at The Mountain Rose it was like arriving home! Dora waited for us to arrive (we were a few minutes late) and made us feel like family. The Inn itself is beyond wonderful. The pool, the grounds, and the comforting rooms make it one of the (if not THE) most pleasant places we have ever visited. I HIGHLY recommend it, and we WILL be back next summer for a glass of sherry and a dip in the gorgeous pool. One night was NOT enough!!! Mrs. Paula Kirsch ps the wood thrushes sing for free, but they were priceless!

The grounds of this inn are expansive and the inn is very well-maintained and clean. Nice innkeepers and great breakfasts.

We recently spent a weekend at Mountain Rose Inn. It was delightful! The setting of the house is lovely, the house itself is quite beautiful, and the innkeepers did everything possible to make us feel welcome. Michael & Dora Jane are incredibly hospitable, and their breakfasts are delicious! We swam, hiked and played badminton on the grounds. From the hammock under the trees near the creek to the gorgeous humming birds that visit to the rocking chairs on the porch, there is something here for everyone. We left refreshed and relaxed. We look forward to going back one day.

We could not have picked a better place to have our wedding ceremony! We chose the Intimate Wedding Package and invited close family to be a part of our weekend celebrations. The atmosphere was welcoming, peaceful, and enjoyable! Every detail was attended to by the innkeepers, Mike & Dora Jane. The gift baskets in the room upon arrival, the bouquet of flowers in the bride's room, the snacks and drinks in the guest refrigerator, the afternoon cookies, the beautiful views inside and outside the inn, the hammock swing and deck near the stream, the spacious yard for family games, the fire pit for gathering around in the evening, and the delicious meals are only the highlights of this outstanding venue. We have already decided to make the Mountain Rose Inn one of our regular places to visit!

We just came home after spending 3 nights at the Mountain Rose Inn and we can't wait to go back next year. Our room was wonderful, the food was out of this world and the inn keepers are now friends. We felt so at home while staying there, they truely welcomed us into their home and made it one of the best vacations yet.

The elegance of this Inn was so wonderful! Dora showed such Southern hospitality with dignity and charm. The grounds were wonderful complete with chairs by a babbling brook. They are making it even better by building a deck for weddings. The breakfast was "to die for" and she had asked about food allergies and accomodated me with no problems. Such a great way to spend my birthday trip.

We stayed one night at the mountain Rose for our 2nd year anniversary. We were instantly charmed by the innkeepers’ warm hospitality and very comfortable rooms. Breakfast was fabulous. We will return!

We had such a fun stay! My husband and I have stayed at several bed and breakfasts and this is definitely at the top of our list. The property is beautiful. Unfortunately, we were never able to meet Michael and Dora Jane due to someone sick in the hospital but we were able to meet the older couple who take care of the property when they are out of town. They were so awesome! They set up a bonfire for us in the evening to enjoy which included smores of course. They gave us directions to great places to visit in the area and were such nice folks. We stayed in the Pride of Virginia room and that bed is one of the most comfortable beds I have ever stayed in. It was amazing and I still think about it! We slept so well. Definitely book your stay and enjoy the history and the relaxation the Mountain Rose Inn has to offer!

With so many wonderful locations to visit in our beautiful country, we tend to not travel to the same location more than once. The Mountain Rose Inn is our exception. We have returned 3 or 4 more times since our first visit 3 years ago. The Inn is a perfect location to get away from it all: beautiful facilities, oh so tasty meals with great service, and the best innkeepers that we have ever met! The Blue Ridge Parkway has numerous locations to see. The locals towns all have individual country appeal. We have also enjoyed the local wineries, golf courses, antique shops, hiking, back road exploring and geocaching. There's lots to do, or you can choose to sit beside the pool or on one of the many porches and relax. We have never been disappointed and plan to return often. We call the Mountain Rose Inn our mountain home that we don't have to clean or pay property taxes on.

We bought the weekend elopement package and ended up staying an extra night!!! we have never had such hospitality and service! The room was beautiful and we recieved so many unanticipated extras! You can stay at a five star hotel for many times the amount we paid and recieve so much less. The value was wonderful! And the food was outstanding... my husband is a very picky eater and they kept us very well fed! Everything was all we could have wanted for both our wedding and our trip, and we were so privledged to have Mike, Cat, and Dora Jane as a part of it all!!

Wonderful start to the weekend... "Cat" greeting us on the sidewalk, sherry & chocolate chip cookies. Beautiful room, Pride of Virginia. Outstanding breakfast, 4 courses no less! Wine tasting & dinner at Chateau Morrisette. Beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Last day... taking a hike around the property with Cat as our guide! The Mountain Rose Inn was an absolute dream! My husband and I stayed this past weekend and I wish more than anything we could go back and live there! The setting is breathtaking and the innkeepers have such a kind and gentle spirit about them. It was such a peaceful time. Not to mention the breakfast was divine, how could you not love a breakfast that includes dessert?! It was the perfect get away and we can’t wait to return!

Our stay was outstanding. The breakfast every morning was unbelievable. The inn keepers were so nice and welcoming. I reccomend staying here for a get away.

This B&B is clean, comfortable and beautiful. The decor and antiques take you to another time, but don't feel stuffy or dusty. The location near Floyd is beautiful if you want to be in the mountains and truly get away.

A grand house & accommodations found at the end of a winding road alongside a rocky stream. Peace, and nature at its best for a very special day!

Mountain Rose offers romantic and relaxing retreat. This late 1800's historical home-place is situated along a brook. Rocking chairs line the porches where humming birds gather. The 4 course breakfast was out of this world!

Not only is this a beautiful historic inn, but the hosts put "the golden rule" into action. Mike & Dora Jane serve scrumptious means with ease & make everyone feel special. The inn is impeccably clean & the grounds beautiful.

Luxurious room, beautiful scenery, phenomenal food and the nicest inkeepers possible. There is no better place to stay in this area. We will return.

This is a beautiful inn, well kept with lovely antiques and decor. The innkeepers were very friendly and anticipated your every need. I am on a Gluten-free diet, and they took care of my requirements- We would visit again!

We have stayed int hat area a few times to enjoy the scenery and wine tasting, and by far this was the best place. nice room, great food, and hospitality beyond compare!

Our overnight stay at the Inn was so wonderful and peaceful. The food was amazing, the house charming and the innkeepers were so attentive. It was well worth the money...we've already made plans for an anniversary trip!

This marked our second visit to the Mountain Rose. this time to celebrate my husband's birthday and be part of the fun at the VA Tech game. The rooms are lovely with a smile and 'how can I help you'. This time of year offered beautiful autumn leaves surrounded by the blue ridge mountains.

We recently enjoyed our first stay here and recommend it without any hesitation. The innkeepers are very helpful answering questions about the area. But the food! Food to die for. Breakfast is four courses: cereal (organic granola), fruit (apple crepes for example), main course (omelet with chicken, spinach, cheese for example) , and dessert (yes, DESSERT - for example peppermint ice cream). In the evening there's sherry and dessert (pecan pie for example). I have never had food this good and so creatively presented as this. So go - eat - enjoy!

Our stay at the Mountain Rose Inn was a celebration of our wedding anniversary and my birthday. So we wanted a B & B that was a bit special, and that it was. Mike and Dora Jane made us feel welcome, and were so attentive to our needs, it made for a very enjoyable stay. They are exceptional hosts, and they make this old house come to life. And yet the grounds and the house had a quiet serenity about them. Others may have detailed the breakfasts served, I'll just say that we found them to be scrumptious! You would too.

The Mountain Rose near Toggles Gap on the Blue Ridge Parkway- Dora Jane and Mike offer the best of southern hospitality with a cosmopolitan flair. The cold pear soup at breakfast was extraordinary! :)

The facility was nicely restored and well kept. The innkeepers (Carl & Carol) were delightful and graciously exceeded our expectations. Their kindness and hospitality was truly amazing and will long be remembered. People willing and capable of giving strangers such a pleasant experience are a treasure

We have stayed at many B&B's in VA & NC, but the attention to detail and the perfect amount of "presence" was most appreciated. We had a lovely time and hope to return soon!

The setting was a peaceful country front porch relaxation. Delectable food, warm and friendly service.

We visited "Mountain Rose Inn" for our July 4th celebration. The hundred year old home was immaculate. We spent rainy days reading on one of the inns 6 covered porches. Then swam in the pool, went antique shopping, canoeing, visited art galleries & wineries and rode down the parkway. Every morning was begun with a 4 course breakfast, an offer to pack lunch and dozens of hummingbirds. The fourth was celebrated with a shrimp & grits dinner with other guests followed by desert & fireworks! We have already booked for the fall !

An idyllic setting, a beautiful house, well-appointed and comfortable rooms, delicious breakfast and afternoon snacks, welcoming hosts (exceptionally welcoming pooch!), and even a swimming pool. Having visited more B&Bs than I can remember, I would have to rate this in the top 10.

The M.R.I. was a secluded yet romantic treasure we found online. The atmosphere made us stop and remember to enjoy the good things in life. The inn keepers went above and beyond to make us completely comfortable.

Just a one night stay and then we had to move on to meet our schedule. We realized as we walked the wooded trails, finding new spring wild flowers...that it would take longer to truly enjoy all there is to offer in such a wonderful spot.

My wife and I have stayed at the Inn twice and loved it! The rooms are comfortable and have the convenience of a private bath. The parlor is cozy and stocked with snacks. Breakfast has been fabulous, and Dora Jane went out of her way to accomodate my wife's dietary restrictions (no wheat) and still made amazing food! I cannot recommend the inn highly enough. The inn is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the antique shops and galleries in Floyd so it's perfect for the weekend getaway or as a stopover while driving the parkway.

Food was superb! Fireplace is ALWAYS stoked. Dora Jane & Mike are superb hosts. I could spend all winter in their front parlor. High marks all around!

Really, my husband and I could go on and on about our stay at the Mountain Rose... but we'll keep this practical, yet enticing. First, the innkeepers, Dora Jane and Mike, are tremendous managers and hosts!! They went above and beyond to make us feel right at home but completely special. We found ourselves drawn to them personally during our afternoon/evening down-time-- very easy to be with! They are open-books, professional business people, quick to respond to any needs, and eager to please. We actually miss them right now! My husband and I stayed at the Inn on a whim for our honeymoon, having never heard of it two days prior. We found them online and felt good about the website... and that was all we had going for us. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised with how modern it is (yet still quaint and cozy), how CLEAN they keep every room, well-maintained grounds, flexible scheduling, fireplace in every room, privacy, porches, very nice bathrooms, etc. Oh, and the multi-course breakfasts are outstanding!! It's truly the whole "too-good-to-be-true" bit. My husband is a man's man, and even he's telling everyone about this B&B now. We were looking for a mild-winter honeymoon destination with privacy and the opportunity to just be together. The small, hip, artsy town of Floyd is nearby for a good dinner, gallery-visits, country stores, antiques, coffee, music... And Mike recommended various spots for hiking (again, stunning!!)... but, really, we found ourselves saying to each other: "Let's just go back to the inn, sit by the fireplace, eat snacks, and play Scrabble." So we did. We didn't want to leave, even for a few hours. You just feel good there. We are officially fans of honeymoons now, but we're junkies for The Mountain Rose Inn.

Of all the inns we have stayed at this year, this is by far my favorite. The innkeepers are terrific, food fabulous, rooms beautiful and comfortable, location peaceful and relaxing. I would rather spend my money or time at the Mountain Rose than on anything else!

Each year for Christmas my husband and I take a mini vacation instead of exchanging gifts. We both agree that our stay at the Mountain Rose Inn has been our best present. The pecan pancakes served on our second morning were delicious. Our room was beautifully decorated. The bed very comfortable and cozy. Dora Jane and Mike made our entire weekend a very pleasant experience. We are already planning our next trip to the Mountain Rose Inn.

Mike and Dora were incredible hosts who made you feel right at home. The area was beautiful and the food was amazing, it made our honeymoon truly unforgettable.

The farmhouse so beautifully restored;the absolutely divine and delicious gourmet breakfasts; the champagne, roses, and cheesecake celebrating our anniversary; the porches overlooking the yard and creek and the graciousness of Dora Jane and Mike made the Mountain Rose Inn the best experience we have had at a bed and breakfast. We look forward to returning soon.

My husband and I were married at the Inn April 2006 and went back this April to celebrate our anniversary. And while we were there we discussed making it a yearly trip, we love the Inn. It is a beautiful place. The rooms are very romantic and relaxing. Breakfast at the Inn is one of the best meals you will ever eat. But the Innkeepers with their genuine warmth are what give the place a feeling of "home". Anyone looking for an enjoyable, relaxing and romantic trip near the Blue Ridge Parkway should definitely give the Mountain Rose Inn a try. You won't be sorry.
