Fife & Drum Inn

My wife and I have been staying at other B&B's in Williamsburg for several years. Most of them have put huge dents in our budgets. At Fife & Drum for a little more than half of what we would have spent at another B&B, we had a wonderful time. We will definitely be back. Service and Value are outstanding. Room was small and tv could have been a little bigger. While the room was very clean when we checked in after we took our showers the first night, a heavy mildew smell tended to come from the bathroom. Everything looked clean so I don't know if it was the pipes or not enough ventalation in the bathroom. It was not terrible but was not pleasant either. For the breakfast, some people probably love it, but my wife and I have dietary restrictions and could not eat very much of it but cannot penalize them for that. What we were able to eat it was ok but not spectacular by any means. Overall though, we can afford to stay there two times longer than other places for the same money so we will most definitely be back!

Absolute best place to stay in Williamsburg. Location can't be beat. right in the middle of Colonial Willimasburg and the College of William and Mary. Each room is unique and spacious. Billy and Sharon are quick with Williamsburg history or great recommendations. I'll be back as soon as I can.

Have stayed at Fife and Drum 4 or 5 times now. Would never consider staying anyplace else in Williamsburg. The location alone is simply the best in town. The rooms, friendly service, homey feel, proximity to Colonial Wmsburg/Merchant Square/Wm & Mary College, and the great breakfast just add to the appeal. This is the THE place to stay.

We stayed in the Restoration Suite and loved it. Clean room and modern bathroom. Located right on the edge of the shopping and historic areas. Just park your car and enjoy.

Lovely Inn with wonderful rooms. Ideally located in the historic district and most restaurants with in a very short walk. The Inkeeper and staff were so friendly and helpful. I would definitely go back if in the area. Wonderful way to ring in the New Year with all the activities close by!!! The only down was the breakfasts served. Have been going to B&B's for over 30 years. I love to see how creative the Innkeepers are with breakfasts. Would have liked to see something more than a baked french toast that was not that good. It would have been nice to have something appropriate to the Colonial Williamsburg theme, spoon bread, Virgina ham omelet, hearty muffins such as pumpkin, carrot for some examples.

Arrived on a cold and rainy night to a warm welcome, a better map and good local advice, Thanks. We will return.

Stayed 1st week in Jan - had the place almost to ourselves - very convenient to return to around mid-day to warm up. Room was very quiet. Breakfasts very good. 'Aroma' cafe 30 feet away was excellent value.

The Fife and Drum was as comfortable as being with family. We were met at the door by Billy Scruggs who help us to our room and eagerly made reservations for dinner for both nights there. The location is perfect and within walking distance to great restaurants and the historic village. Billy and Sharon know the area well and have great suggestions for how to spend a day. We also took advantage of visiting both Jamestown and Yorktown in addition to Williamsburg. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the beds were great. We look forward to returning.

We spent 2 nights at the Fife & Drum B&B and would highly recommend it. The location is excellent, the owner was extremely helpful and very pleasant. The rooms were clean and fresh. The only disadvantage is that if stairs are a problem the B&B is upstairs on the 1st floor and there is no elevator. Breakfast was not great which was a surprise considering how good everything else was. We would definitely go back.

Enjoyed my wonderful stay at the Fife and Drum Inn!!

We went to Williamsburg for the first time New Year's Eve. I selected the Fife and Drum due to its proximity to the Historic and Merchants Square Areas. We like to be able to park the car and walk everywhere. The Inn was very nice, private and quiet. The Conservancy Room was beautiful and well appointed. I especially liked the footed tub! The staff were friendly and helpful. Rhonda was wonderful, kind and helpful! The breakfasts were all homemade on site with fresh fruit every day. I would highly recommend this Inn!

Clean, attractive rooms. Rooms on second floor and wouldn't be accessible for handicapped. Excellent location for reaching historic area and restaurants by walking. Breakfast only average. I would definitely stay again.

The Jamestown room was clean and well--appointed. Bathroom with shower adequate but lacking shelf space. Christmas morning breakfast was continental style - inderstandable since it was a holiday. Had an issue with room being too hot but proprietor remedied that by adjusting from another location. Very quiet and relaxing. Enjoyed the sitting area and coffee bar.

Excellent accommodations and service. Recommendations for activities to do (fife and drum evening march) and restaurants to visit were spot-on. Even suggestions of specific menu items were followed and appreciated.

This is our second visit to the Fife & Drum. And it was as wonderful as the last. The location can't be beat ... we park the car and don't have to drive anywhere to see all that Colonial Williamsburg has to offer. Billy and Sharon were great hosts... offering suggestions for dining and providing wonderful information about the area. The rooms are clean and comfortable with modern bath facilities. Rhonda keeps everything clean & tidy. We enjoyed having the breakfast available to start the day off right. This year we brought ourfriends with us and we'll most likely be back next year as well.

The room was charming and the service was good. The breakfast was fine. I suspect if you stayed more than a couple of days the bread pudding for breakfast would get a bit boring but for the two mornings we were there it was fine.

The Fife & Drum Inn is the best place to stay when visiting historic Williamsburg and/or William & Mary College. All attractions are within a few blocks of the Inn and it's in the middle of some great shops and places to eat.

My family of three have stayed at the Fife & Drum Inn a half dozen times, usually over a weekend in December. Its location alone would make it worthy (a block from the historic area, six blocks from the train station), but add that to its colonial decor, outstanding breakfasts (the leanest bacon ever!), and the cheery owners/staff, the place is perfect. Tea, cookies, and lemonade are available day and night as is a game table and a wide assortment of DVDs (not that you'd have much time for movies!). On our visit this past weekend, Billy graciously let us "keep" our room until we had to meet our train at 5 p.m. on check out day. When our daughter was young, he always gave her a bag of biscuits left over from breakfast to feed the ducks in a nearby pond. It's one of our favorite B&Bs anywhere, and the only place we'd stay in Williamsburg, VA.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience! The owners were very kind and extremely helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay there again!

We stayed at the Fife and Drum Inn in November 2011 the week before Thanksgiving. This was our 5th year staying at the Inn. We truly love everything about it, the Innkeepers, Billy and Sharon, the staff, Rhonda, are wonderful people. Its so clean and comfortable. Breakfast delicious. Location perfect.

We have visited Wiliamsburg numerous times but just recently stumbled upon the Fife and Drum Inn and decided to stay there on our recent visit for the Grand Illumination weekend. The LOCATION can't be beat! You can easily walk to Colonial Williamsburg and you are right next to Market Square and next door to AROMAs! We loved the Colonial feel of the Inn and the owners as very friendly and accomodating. Also, the breakfasts were wonderful and they were generous to share the recipes! I would strongly recommend it. I also think their cottage that sleeps 6 would be an excellent choice for a family because of it's location! I wish we had known about it when we took our children to Williamsburg years ago. All in all, we were VERY pleased. Another benefit if that they have PARKING for their guests.

The hospitality was the best we have ever had. The experience was wonderful and we look forward to staying here again.

Nice room, friendly staff, great location on Merchants Square.

The room was one of a kind. The owner Billy, was extremely helpful, informative and kind. The rooms have their own thermostat and the beds are sooo comfortable. The breakfast was simple but yummy---would recommend anyone to stay there!

Although I live in DC, this was my first trip to Williamsburg. I scouted a number of establishments online before booking with the Fife and Drum, and I'm thrilled with my selection. The owner (Billy), is very friendly. The room was a bit small, but very clean and comfortable. I slept like a rock. The best part about this place (other than its charm) is its location. We parked our car and didn't touch it again for two days... Merchant's Square, Colonial Williamsburg, W&M campus - we were in the center of everything, so it was hugely convenient. I'll definitely go back!

The Fife & Drum Inn is a wonderful, cozy, convenient, & yummy place to stay when visiting Williamsburg, Virginia! Billy and Sharon are warm and friendly hosts! The themed rooms are always comfy and clean w/ all the modern amenities! I would highly recommend the Fife & Drum Inn! Kudos Billy & Sharon for another wonderful vacation!

The room was clean with colonial decor and a comfy queen bed. It was surprisingly quiet even though it's facing a busy street. The shower is nice and large. The innkeepers are welcoming and friendly and will offer suggestions for dining/attractions. The location is wonderful as it is only steps away from great cafes and restaurants and a couple of blocks away from the beginning of Colonial Williamsburg. This makes it easy to eat or shop and then go back to the room to freshen up or drop off packages.

We enjoyed our stay. Next time i would choose a room not near the common room as noise from vivitors late one night was distubing

5-minute walk to all of Williamsburg's attractions. Wonderful breakfast. Gracious, helpful host.

We enjoyed visiting Williamsburg and our central location to this historic city made our exploration very easy as the town and all the services were right out our door.

Warm hospitality...the owners take a personal interest in ensuring that everything is ok. Knowledgeable about the local restaurants, etc.

We enjoyed our stay at The Fife&Drum, and will be looking to stay there again in the near future. We have recommended it to several of our friends. The owners very nice and helpful on what to do while we were in town.

Stayed one night. Location is fantastic -- you can walk anywhere. Staff were unbelievably friendly and helpful. The rooms are also quaint and make you feel like you are in Williamsburg. I would definitely recommend.

This was a mid-week surprise get-away with my wife to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary... We had a wonderful stay and were very pleased with our room, the hospitality, and breakfast. The location could not have been better...we enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Blue Talon Bistro (just down the street) and would highly recommend this place. Overall, we would go there again...my wife was very happy - she told me I hit a homerun on this one...

Great little Inn! I think the only complaint had very little to do with the service- the guests in the room next to us seemed to be pacing around half the night and with hard wood floors everywhere, it was a bit disturbing, as sound travels quite well! Otherwise, a great stay and fantastic location!

The Fife & Drum was my first B&B experience. I expected more from the breakfast after hearing from other's about their B&B experience. I got about what I get at a Hampton Inn. The location is key to F&D. It is one block from Colonial Williamsburg, 8 miles from Jamestown, and right next to William and Mary college and the shops of today's Williamsburg.

this was our second visit to the fife and drum inn, and it was as good as it was last visit. we have already booked our next visit down. the location was excellent, the staff could not have been more attentive, the breakfast was excellent, and the inn clean as a whistle. highly recommend the inn.

Chose to stay here on last night of trip. Owner very friendly and came to our room to help with broken shower faucet. Room was very cozy, and the location of the inn is great. We could walk to our restaurant. Folks who have difficulty with stairs should know, however, that the inn is on the second floor of an old building. No elevator.

Absolutely great location for sightseeing, touring, restaurants and access to Jamestown and Yorktown . Owners very friendly and very helpful! Beds inviting and comfortable. Breakfast was very nice but coffee needed to be stronger. Would stay here again.

Loved the closeness to historic Williamsburg. Inn is above business' but never heard anything from downstairs. Nice and quite. If you take a cab to the Inn just mention the Aromas Coffee shop and the cabbies know right where to go. Comfortable room and great breakfasts. We stayed 4 nights. What a pleasure.

Really close to Colonial Williamsburg and local eating establishments. Innkeepers were friendly and helpful. WIFI available but only accessible in the common room.

Billy and his wife are wonderful Inn keepers who gave us a beautiful breakfast each morning and service from a wonderful staff. Billy gave us great information on places to eat and things to make sure you see when you come to Historic Williamsburg. I hope to get back there again soon.

This B&B is in a fantastic location. Parking is nearby though it was not that easy to find the specific spaces for B&B guests. Partly, this difficulty was to do with the fact that there was nobody there to greet us when we arrived, although a key and welcome note were left, and so we were glad we had printed off the parking instructions. The room was lovely, well-appointed and quiet, good cleanliness and the bed comfortable. We were very happy with it. There was a good range of books available for guests in the main hallway. We were disappointed not to be greeted in the morning at breakfast, despite no greeting the previous evening. We were also disappointed with the choice at breakfast - from recollection, something cooked and some granola. The quality was fine, however. So, accommodation excellent, could improve breakfast and personal interaction/welcome with guests.

Our experience was first rate, and very pleasant. We had never stayed at a B&B before and our innkeepers made our stay very memorable. Sure beats going to a conventional hotel.

Beautifully decorated in a clean, minimalist kind of way. Authentically Colonial, but spotless and fresh. Breakfast is good, and Blue Talon breakfast across the street has absolutely amazing breakfast for $9.95 if you'd like to try that. The William and Mary room is lovely, but has an ice machine behind it. It didn't bother us much, but I'd avoid that room if you have a long drive ahead of you... This is one of my favorite places, and I highly recommend it. It's worth repeat visits!

We stayed at the Fife and Drum on 8/5-8/7. It was one of the best B&B's we have been to so far. The place is beautifully decorated, the rooms are great, and you can not beat the location. Right downtown in historic Willliamsburg. We loved it. We will definitely be back.

We very much enjoyed our stay. The Cedars Suite is very comfortable and a great value for that much space. The staff is friendly and helpful and we enjoyed the breakfasts and snacks. (We do wish the breakfast window was extended a bit though for late sleepers.) The location is very convenient as well, with the William and Mary campus, Merchant Square and the colonial area and buses nearby so you can park your car for the entire stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay here and were impressed by the helpful and friendly attitude of the owners and staff. If we visit the area again we would definitely return to the Fife and Drum.

Fabulous location in Colonial Williamsburg. Close to so many restaurants and historic sites. Rooms are nicely decorated and breakfast is yummy. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. We visit here every summer and always stay at the Fife and Drum.

Perfectly located in the historic downtown district. great rooms with historical decoration but all modern standards. Very clean and quite - despite the central location. Enjoyable breakfast. We will always come back if we can ever make the long trip from Germany again!

We have stayed at many B&Bs and many hotels over the years. When I make travel plans I take into consideration what we will be doing and the overall purpose of the trip. I was very happy to find that this lodging had a little bit of each. Fife & Drum Inn was like a hotel in that each room had a key-card and was off of an interior corridor. So I didn't get the feeling that I was in someone's house in their bedroom.(Sometimes you want this cozy feel and sometimes you don't). The bathroom was outstanding. Obviously the hosts put a lot of thought into the layout, useability and aesthetics. Always had as hot of water as I wanted and excellent water pressure. The bed was one of the most inviting beds I have ever slept in. It looked and felt beautiful. What a pleasure to return to the room after a long day of activities around Williamsburg, shower and relax off to sleep with a little TV. Another cross between hotel and B&B was the breakfast. Usually at a B&B you are given the time breakfast begins and all of the guests sit together at one or two large tables. Sometimes I really don't want to sit at a table with all the other guests. Sometimes I want a more casual approach such as a nod hello while getting coffee. Fife & Drum had several smaller tables and a buffet that allowed the guests to come and go. More like what you see at a hotel breakfast buffet. The location is AWESOME. Colonial Williamsburg, Merchants Square and William & Mary are all less than 5 minutes away. The Inn has a parking area and/or there is Free parking on the street at night. Very nice hosts. They seemed to have a knack for accommodating guests based on the guests needs and wants for their stay. If you felt like chatting they chatted, if a good morning was all you were up for they could do that too. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Fife & Drum Inn. It was a perfect blend of the pampering of a B&B and the anonymity of a hotel.

I have stayed at the Fife and Drum Inn many times in the past, and I simply love the location. It's proximity to the historic area is a real plus. Since it is located in Merchant's Square, it is very convenient to the contemporary dining options in that end of town.

We spent 2 nights at the Fife and Drum and found it to be a great place to stay when visiting Williamsburg. You can't beat it for location as it is right off of Merchant's Square, next to William & Mary, and an easy walk to any of the Colonial Williamsburg sites and events. Billy was a most gracious host.

We LOVE The Fife and Drum! We stayed here on our honeymoon (second stay) and felt right at home. Billy and Sharon are so warm and welcoming. I can't wait to go back!

Breakfast was skimpy and not very well done compared to nearly every other B&B we have stayed at. The room was fine, and the staff was knowledgeable about sites and events in the area. The location is stellar - an easy walk to the historic district, William & Mary, and several excellent restaurants (including a cute coffee shop two doors east). The price is For the location.

Good accommodation and friendly Innkeepers made this a good stay. Interesting decor and furnishings set the scene for the Williamsburg experience. The personal attention from Billy was especially helpful - lots of interesting information. Will definitely recommend to our friends.

Easy to find, good location, close to the areas most people go to Williamsburg to see. Owner seemed friendlier on departure as opposed to the businesslike and almost cool manner in which we were initially greeted. Breakfast was tasty but limited.

Great location. Tremendous service and an excellent Southern breakfast every morning. Owners are extremely knowledgeable of Williamsburg and truly care about the community. It's a comfortable place and worthy of a return trip.

We were quite pleased again with our stay. It was our second stay at their inn. They are both very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, quiet and met all needs. The owners go out of their way to answer all questions and offer suggestions for the area. We'll be back the next time we are there.

I am reviewed in my position and I always appreciate respectful direction which leads to improvement as well as praise so it is with respect and appreciation that I do the same for my stay at the Fife and Drum. First, you could not ask for a nicer Inn Keeper and staff - and willing to address any issue or need you may have. We stayed at the cottage and were putting on a wedding right up the street so things were crazy and I didn't have time to ask all the time. They beds were wonderful, the location fantastic - sincerely - coffee shops, college, old town. Here are my thoughts on improvement - clean up the yard, someone paying this much doesn't want to have weeds everywhere - make it beautiful! Give us a real place to hang clothes (maybe that supply cabinet?) Check on us more than once to make sure we have what we need. Also, I would love a bench to sit outside in the garden you are going to make beautiful for the next time I come back - because I will be back.

Fife and Drum offers a stay in a real Williamsburg atmosphere. The breakfast is excellent and the location the best. Walk to the historic district and lots of very good restaurants for dinner. The owners are on site to make sure everything is right.

We stayed in the restoration suite that accommodated my husband and me in one room and our (W&M) daughter in the front twin. It was a perfect arrangement with its own porch access. I absolutely intend to reserve the same room again and again ... you can't beat the location, the accommodations and Billy/Sharon's above-and-beyond care/service.

Great location for walking around to the college and to historic Williamsburg. Our room was the Yorktown - the bed was great and I only wish the room was a bit darker in the morning, but we needed to get up anyway. Breakfast was nice and different each day. We loved the fresh made cookies available all day and the ability to get a cup of hot tea anytime!

The reception we received was warm and enthusiastic with the obvious intention to invite us into a homely atmosphere. The Cedar Suite, where we stayed, was cosy, comfy, and had everything we needed, including a balcony where we sat to enjoy a late evening drink and snack in peace and quiet. Breakfast was great, and the room felt like a cosy Engish cottage. A great place to stay, a perfect location, and an amazing value for money! Long may it exist and prosper. Thank you. I would have like a variety for breakfast. Scrambled eggs one day or pancakes or something. The egg casserole was interesting once but I would have preferred to have some other choices on the other days.

I cannot imagine a better place to stay for a visit to Colonial Williamsburg. Our hosts were among the most friendly I have ever encountered at a B&B. Would not hesitate to go again and would recommend to all.

Fife & Drum was a wonderful place to stay. The room was spotless, comfortable and furnished with wonderful whimsy and art. We stayed two nights and enjoyed a delicious breakfast each morning. Everything we wanted to see in Williamsburg was in walking distance.

The Inn was clean and very homey; the staff was very helpful and friendly. Nothing will beat this place for proximity to the "in" places in Williamsburg. I'll stay here again next time I visit Williamsburg and will not hesitate to refer the Fife and Drum to anyone who asks.

Ideal location, charming rooms and very friendly and helpful owner and staff. Close to all restaurants in the 'Historic' area of Williamsburg yet quiet and restful inside. Perfect for visiting the area and a true Bed and Breakfast experience.

From the time we checked in to the time we checked out we have no complaints and only praises about our stay here! The owners were very nice and very helpful and the location is fantastic! We walked to everything and all of our meals! My only gripe.....coffee was too weak at breakfast! But if thats my only complaint, I ll take it! Definetly a great spot and a great location!

Great place to stay in the middle of Williamsburg. Best place to stay to walk to all the "happenings" in town. Great to be there during the Farmers' market and Art and craft fair too!... awesome place... clean and great ammenities.

Comfortable inn close to the restored area in Willliamsburg.

We stayed just one night and got the last room available, so I gather it may not have been the most beautiful one but still we liked it a lot. The innkeper (I suppose) we met was absolutely charming with us, and the breakfast, though not exceedingly much choice, was really fresh and tasty. The location is quite unbeatible. So we had a very happy if short stay and would certainly recommend the F&D Inn to anyone who looks for some more personal experience in W'burg.

We stayed in The Conservancy Room & it was GORGEOUS!!! We enjoyed it very much & although we're living in California, would love to come back again, we're from the area, so it's a good possibility! :) Breakfast every morning was always delicious, the staff was friendly and helpful..it was just all around a wonderful experience!! Inn is ideally located for stay in colonial Williamsburg. The room was spotless and comfortable. The innkeepers are quite helpful and knowledgeable. The breakfast was good; the common room offers a nice, "warm" area for guests. Overall, highly recommended

we took a short 2 night stay to get away i found the owners and staff to be very knowledgeable and helpful with both there knowledge and ability to get us reservations that we needed it was a most pleasant experience we were not only first time quests but it was the first time we had been to a bed and breakfast .

We had a lovely stay at the Fife and Drum in Colonial Williamsburg. The room was beautiful and the innkeeper was very friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, I recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone visiting Colonial Williamsburg who wants stay in the heart of it all.

We we really pleased with this bed and breakfast. It is conveniently located for visiting Colonial Williamsburg, the innkeeper explained us very kindly how to get around and what to see, the atmosphere was friendly , relaxed and the rooms impeccably clean, arranged with much taste. First trip to Williamsburg and couldn't have been more pleased. Got there first thing in the morning (well before the mid afternoon check-in time) and Rhonda was very helpful in showing us where to park (for free during our stay), going over things to do and pointing us in the right direct to get started. When we returned in the late afternoon, they had already checked us in, the key was available and we had a great stay. Breakfast was delicious. I'd recommend this B&B to anyone and when we go back there sometime in warmer weather, we'll definitely stay there again.

The Fife and Drum was the perfect B&B for my family! In a charming building, wonderfully furnished with cute details and items of historical interest, it's a very comfortable place to return at the end of a tiring day. Rhonda provides cookies and lemonade to refresh, and the assortment of historical videos and books added to our experience. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious and provided the perfect nutritious start to the day! Billy and Rhonda are wonderfully helpful and gracious, and they helped us to feel right at home. The B&B is only 2 blocks from Colonial Williamsburg, right across the street from William and Mary, and surrounded by easy shopping and dining in all price ranges. I can't imagine a better location or a more suitable B&B! I hope we can return!

We really enjoyed our recent two night stay in the Cedars Suite. Billy (one of the owners) and his assistant, Rhonda, are both very friendly and helpful, always happy to provide information about the area. The location really couldn't be more perfect - we walked everywhere while our car remained parked at the inn's free private parking area for our entire stay. We enjoyed the buffet-style breakfast, the complimentary lemonade and cookies, and use of the free wi-fi, as well as the atmosphere of the inn. We also highly recommend nearby "A Chef's Kitchen" for a delicious dinner and a fun, informative cooking class. We're sometimes skeptical about 1, 2, or 3 time contributor reviews on sites like TripAdvisor. However, in the case of The Fife and Drum Inn, Billy nicely asks that a post-stay review be written and we think it actually says a lot that people who don't normally write reviews (like us) enjoyed their stay at the inn enough to do so. Don't hesitate to book a stay and see for yourself what a great place this is.

My husband and I wanted to experience the true charm and history of Williamsburg, so we decided to stay at the Fife and Drum... we loved it! It was located right at the beginning of the historic district; we walked everywhere we wanted to go! No hassles with parking. Once there, we saw the other B&Bs in the area, and they were all a good mile away from the historic district. Our room was very charming with dormered ceilings and wood floors. The breakfasts were good, and there were always fresh cookies and lemonade/tea/coffee available at any time. Billy was extremely helpful when we first arrived, getting our Williamsburg tickets for us, suggesting restaurants, and making reservations for us. Overall, this is a romantic, charming place to stay. If you are looking to experience the authentic history of Williamsburg, the Fife and Drum is your best bet. We will definitely be back!

Great location. As you come out the main door, turn left and visit Colonial Williamsburg, or go straight across the street and you are in Merchant's Square. Had a great time, a great room and wonderful company visiting the Owners and other guests. I will be going back!

Fife & Drum Inn Is Truly A Very Short Walk To The Colonial City. If You Are New To Williamsburg, Billy and Sharon Can And Will Help You Find Anything. They Grew Up In Williamsburg. Their Staff Is Extremly Warm And Friendly And Just As Accomodating. We Had A Great Time and Will Be Back!!

The Fife & Drum Inn is a great alternative to the larger hotels in Williamsburg. A cross between a boutique hotel and a bed and breakfast, the Inn is within easy walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg and contiguous to Market Square restaurants and stores. Host Billy Scruggs offers recommendations for both casual and formal dining and other sights to see around Williamsburg. The rooms are comfortable with a modern bathroom in each. Besides breakfast every morning, there is a continuous supply of cold lemonade and fresh baked cookies in the public room. Highly recommend the Inn for anyone interested in personal, intimate lodging while visiting Colonial Williamsburg.

We stayed at the Fife and Drum in over Valentine's weekend because we wanted a little getaway to relax. The room was lovely( the Cedar suite) and very clean. The location could not have been better walking distance to the historic distric of Williamsburg. We will definitely stay there again on our next trip to the area.

Our new favorite Williamsburg accomodation. Beds were so comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. Loved the fpl in the dining/lounge area. Coffee,tea,lemonade,cookies available 24/7. Billy and Sharon do everything to make guests comfortable. Conveniently located to everything. Definitely encourage you to enjoy this lovely place and gracious hospitality.

My wife and I stayed at the Fife and Drum for one night. We snuck around to see all the rooms and were very impressed with how cozy and private they are, and how each is decorated and laid out with such thought and good taste. Some specifics: The Queen mattress is dished so we both fell to the middle and woke up sore. The shower was great- glass door, tile seat, great water flow. The handle took some tinkering to figure out how to adjust the temperature. A laminated instruction card would be nice. The claw-foot tub was also great. The TV in the box is a wonderfully innovative solution to the problem of how to fit a television in a colonial decor. Breakfast was lovely. Several hot chafing dishes with delicious offerings, fireplace, coffee, news paper... Very nice. 24hr Lemonade and free anytime snacks too (potato chips, Chex mix, etc.) Overall, we were vey pleased with our stay. The location affords the Fife & Drum some leeway with regard to the noted shortcomings and the somewhat higher price tag. We will definitely stay here again!

Staying in Williamsburg Virginia is a challenge, as it attracts lot of people and is expensive. The Fife and Drum Inn is a great alternative. Located in the heart of the City of Williamsburg it is close to the historical area, eating establishments, retail center, and the College of William and Mary. Recommend it highly. A real treat.

My family really enjoyed the stay at the Fife and Drum. My husband and I stayed in the Washington room and our daughters shared the Richneck room. Both were very comfortable and lovely. Breakfast was great, and it was conveniently located for touring Colonial Williamsburg.

My husband and I had a great stay at the Fife and Drum. We stayed in the Conservancy Room which was quaint, cozy, and romantic. The four poster bed was very comfortable, the claw foot tub was awesome, and the full bathroom was gorgeous. The Inn itself is beautiful and the owner Billy is great. It felt like we were visiting old friends the second we arrived. The Inn was comfortable and we only saw other guests the next morning at breakfast. The breakfast was yummy and satisfying. We will definitely be back!

Well located. Easily walked from one end of Williamsburg and back. Never moved the car. Never needed to take a bus.

Very convenient location. Layout and location of single bathroom a little awkward. "Continental breakfast" in cottage very minimal - one danish each. Some hair found in bathroom that should have been cleaned up. Still, all in all, would stay there again.

The location is right in the heart of mechant square and just steps from Colonial Williamsburg. We had a total blast at our stay- there was so much to do!

My husband and I just spent 2 nights at this awesome little B&B in downtown colonial Williamsburg. What a wonderful experience ... the Inn is charming, our room even had an iron gate entrance even though it was inside and the hall makes you feel like you are outdoors. We chose a suite with a kingsize bed since my husband is quite tall. it was very comfortable. And the sitting area was nice to have as well. Although the room was of the period, the bath was modern with great water pressure. And wifi was available in the room. Innkeeper Billy and his helper Rhonda were totally helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast was served on time and with a smile. And I can't say enough about the location. We didn't have to drive anywhere and that was good since we had snow and sleet while we were there. Being so close to everything we were able to see all the sights. We can't wait to come back in the Spring when we can use the nice porch that was right outside our room.

First, we were very pleased with the location. There was no need for a car. The room, the George Washington, was great. We were very impressed with the quality of amenities and especially the cleanliness of the room and bathroom. Breakfast every morning was a treat. Everything fresh and homemade.

We stayed at the Fife and Drum because of its location but was extremely please with the owners who treated you very nice and were extremely helpful with locating points of interest in the area and making reservations. The rooms were very nostalgic and comfortable. The location overlooking William and Mary and the Historic District is a treasure.

We stayed for Grand Illumination weekend in Williamsburg and especially enjoyed that we parked our car on Friday when we arrived and didn't get into it again until we left on Monday! Great location and very quaint.

Visiting William and Mary, stayed one night over the Thanksgiving week. Great location, very courteous and helpful staff/owner. Wasn't the right accomadations for our family, research on cottage not adequate on information. Extremely overpriced but the whole area is, their rates are based on market.

Best location. We walked from Amtrak train and walked to Colonial village. My 12 yr old son and I had 2- room Restoration Suite. Terrific space with quaint touches. Modern bath and nice toiletries. Friendliness and service stand out the most. Innkeeper Billy was warm and helpful, including getting us good discount on CW tickets. Good breakfast, including bread pudding. We also loved evening cookies and lemonade and playing checkers with colonial soldiers as pieces!

We loved the Fife & Drum! The staff was courteous and helpful at every turn. The breakfast was no standard fare - a gourmet, stick to your ribs, breakfast started off the day right. The prime location made it easy to go back and forth from shopping and sight seeing for quick breaks. Our only complaint was that we could hear guests in the common area late in the evening. Ask for a room near the back porch. However, even the guests laughter was not a big distraction - they retired to their rooms at a reasonable hour and did not disturb our sleep. And one of our key cards stopped working, but all was fixed within ten minutes. They have really thought of everything. The beds are phenomenally divine! It was a true luxury just to lay in bed. We will be back to the Fife and Drum. Great value, great experience.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights as part of our honeymoon and it was great! Our room (the conservancy) was very cozy and romantic and the rest of the inn has a great homey feel. Everyone was polite and courteous and helpful, we would definitely recommend this inn and we will probably be back!

My daughter and I were visiting colleges in the Virginia area and stayed in the Restoration Suite at Fife & Drum. The room exceeded our expectations; we were comfortable; breakfast was fantastic and the other guests were extremely friendly. If in the Williamsburg area again, I would definitely stay at Fife & Drum. Finally, at all times, Billy (manager) was extremely helpful with providing suggestions for meals and directions to different places.

We were very satisfied with our stay at the Fife& Drum. The only drawback was the parking was on the next block.

We surely enjoyed the wonderful ambiance of the Inn. The food was delicious and the Inn keeper, Billy, was so helpful with ideas for seeing Williamsburg within a short visit. The only slightly negative was there was no bath tub in our bathroom. I was unaware of this when I made the reservation. Just a small detail to mention. We would happily return and have told our friends about the Fife and Drum. Splendid!

We stayed in the George Washington Room and it was so quaint. The linens were fresh and soft and the morning breakfast was just right! The Staff was super and helpful in directing us on our sight seeing. We will definitely return to this lovely Inn. The best in town!!

Delightful Inn truly in walking distance of the colonial city. Close to restaurants of various types, ranging from coffee houses to cafes to gourmet meals. Friendly and very helpful Innkeepers and staff. Breakfast is a real treat and varies every day.

Our host was informative, very helpful, knowledgable, and courteous. He gave us directions on a map of the area to restaurants, taverns, ticket booths, and area attractions. He made our stay a wonderfully pleasant experience as did his staff who prepared great breakfasts and treated us to recipes and stories as we ate. The room was comfortable, but the location of the Inn was ideal for walking to any destination or attraction.

If you want to be close to the essence of Williamsburg and not be held hostage by Williamsburg Inn and affilliates, this is a good find. Very clean, personal service, nicely appointed but not luxury defines this inn, located over some quaint village storefronts. Pretty quiet at night, but then again, so is this part of Williamsburg.

The convenience to the College of Wm and Mary and Colonial Williamsburg was wonderful and the friendliness and helpfullness of the manager and staff were superior.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Fife & Drum Inn while on a recent weekend getaway to Williamsburg. The location can't be beat: just a block from Colonial Williamsburg, it is by far the closest B&B in town. It's a beautiful and charming inn, tastefully decorated, with interesting photographs and furnishings that reflect the inn's history and connection to Williamsburg. We stayed in the William & Mary room, and were quite pleased with it. I only wish that the sink had been in the bathroom instead of outside it. The owners were very friendly, eager to help and very hospitable. My only complaint is that the breakfast was a little ho-hum. I've had the pleasure of staying in several other B&Bs in Williamsburg, and I guess I've gotten spoiled with sumptuous gourmet breakfasts. There was nothing wrong with breakfast at the Fife & Drum, it just wasn't knock-your-socks-off delicious. Good value, esp considering its proximity to CW and W&M. Would definitely stay here again.

We have been guests of the Inn at least 4 times and are always amazed at the cleanliness and how much at home that we feel. Each room is decorated differently with every detail paid special attention to. The staff is friendly and always welcoming. Each day begins with a delicious breakfast served informally. If one wishes to visit with other guests there is opportunity for that but this is not forced. The Inn is conveniently located within walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg as well at the modern day Merchant's Square. The Fife and Drum inn is truly a hidden gem!

Our stay at the Fife & Drum was great. We spent three and a half wonderful days in Colonial Williamsburg and thoroughly enjoyed being able to escape the afternoon heat by retreating to our cozy and very air conditioned room, without having to hop a bus or taxi. The breakfasts were great and the staff/owners very welcoming. Definately our newly designated cozy retreat in one of my favorite places in the world.

We stayed at the Inn for two nights. It was a very clean room/inn located on a street next businesses and coffee shops. It was a little noisey at night when the local businesses are shutting down. Breakfast was taste, served buffet style, but they served vertually the same thing both mornings. We really did not get a chance to chat with the innkeeps, as they are not on the property except in the morning, but then again we would leave after breakfast and return mid- to late-afternoon. So they may have bee there when we were out. The Inn is very close to the history part of Williamsburg and an easy walk to get there. On Saturdays there is a wonderful farmer's market the next block over in market square. Also there are a number of very nice eating establishments, all in walking distances. We might be inclined to stay there again, but might try another B&B for comparison.

Rooms are wel-appointed in a colonial style...super clean...friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast is in the dining room...and travelers are always happy to meet one another and share experiences in this friendly atmosphere.

My wife and I visit Williamsburg several times a year and always stay at the Fife and Drum Inn. The location is unbeatable, just off Merchant's Square, convenient to the historic area and close to a number of Williamsburg's best restaurants. The owners, Billy and Sharon, are friendly and very knowledgeable about activities throughout the Historic Triangle. Rhonda is the sort of staff member every B and B needs; unfailingly cheerful and helpful. The rooms are charming and comfortable, each with a unique European-style bath. Breakfasts are generous and tasty, and cookies and lemonade are available later in the day in the common area. Free off-street parking is available, and we usually leave the car in place for the duration of our stay because everything is so close.

The room was very comfortable and cozy. The owners (Billy) were willing to do anything to make your stay comfortable and also were very informative on Williamsburg and the local areas. On my next stay in Williamsburg I wouldn't definately choose the The Fife & Drum.

Fourth Christmas visit to Fife and Drum. An annual gift my husband and I give ourselves. Love the location - just couple of blocks from historic Williamsburg and our favorite restaurant Chef's Kitchen is next door. Staying here is like being at home only a lot more romantic.

Everything was cheerful ... the rooms, the owners, the staff, and the location. Right in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg, easy walking distance to fantastic restaurants!. We were there two weeks before Christmas and encountered strolling carolers and lots of friendly holiday spirit from everyone on the street and everyone at The Fife and Drum Inn. All the rooms were immaculate and decorated in keeping with the history of the area. We loved our room and would stay there again in a heartbeat!

My husband and I were able to arrange babysitting and slip away for the weekend. Our time away is few and far between so where we stay and what we do is very important. We were extremely happy with the Fife and Drum Inn. When we arrived we were greeted happily and given a tour of the inn. We were also given information about the happenings in Williamsburg for that particular weekend. The reason we chose the Fife and Drum Inn was based on the website for the Inn. The website was a very fair representation of the actual inn. We also planned our dinning experience based on recommendations on the website which exceeded our expectations. The Inn is located downtown. We parked our car Friday when we arrived and did not have to get back in car until Sunday when we left. It was great!
