perfect spot

5 on December 22, 2014

The B&B has everything you would expect, quiet, understated elegant, inviting. I stayed in the Garden Room, tastefully furnished, lots of light, pristine clean. The owners,, Gary & Wendy went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable. Breakfast was great. This B&B is within walking distance to the Inn at Little Washington restaurant, where I took dinner. A perfect experience all around. And, yes, I will be back.

A wonderful place to stay!

4.8 on September 22, 2014

We were so happy we chose the Gay Street Inn for my 40th birthday celebration. They were perfect walking distance to the Inn at Little Washington for dinner. Gary and Wendy were lovely hosts. They were helpful and provided us all the information we requested, but were never too intrusive. And the breakfast the next morning was just so delicious -- there was just so much to eat, I wish I wasn't still full from dinner the night before! I would definitely recommend the Gay Street Inn to others, and I hope we have the opportunity to stay there again.

We came to the Gay St. Inn through the B&B.com website. The process was easy. The innkeepers are very nice & information about the area. Port & chocolate by the fire & breakfast the next day was great!

Immaculate, Beautiful, & Friendly-even has one pet-friendly room.

5 on December 17, 2013

What an incredible find! We had family visiting so we took drive to Washington, VA where we were having dinner locally & needed to reserve a pet friendly room. This Inn has one dog friendly room that is delightful! The Inn is fresh and modern with a colonial feel-beautifully appointed! Clean as could be, lovely yard, delightful house & outstanding breakfast. Stuffed French toast, fresh muffins & pears w/raspberries- even the coffee was good!

Wonderful Experience!

5 on December 01, 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Gay Street Inn. We were in town for dinner at the Inn at Little Washington, and Gay Street was very close (easy walking distance) to dinner and shopping. The rooms were much bigger than we expected (the Shenandoah suite has a full kitchen), and everything was clean and tidy. The soaps and shampoos were good quality. The Inn was warm and welcoming, the property was lovely, and our hosts Wendy & Gary were very kind, not to mention breakfast was delicious. We accidentally left our phone charger behind when we left and two days later it arrived at our doorstep in the mail -- unprompted -- we thought that was a rare kindness. The Gay Street Inn will always be a special place for us -- we got engaged here! -- and we will definitely be back to stay in the future.

Weekend Get-Away

5 on November 30, 2013

We spent a lovely weekend at The Gay Street Inn in late October. It was a beautiful fall weekend, and The Gay Street Inn was a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the beauty of Rappahannock County. We had never visited this part of the world, and we were amazed at all it had to offer – hiking in nearby Shenandoah National Park, a number of local wineries, quaint Little Washington and a variety of excellent nearby restaurants. The Gay Street Inn provided the perfect base to take advantage of all of this – comfortable rooms, super breakfasts to start the day and thoroughly enjoyable and knowledgeable hosts.

Simply the best!

5 on September 06, 2013

We were so comfortable with every detail of our stay. The room was perfect, the mattress just firm enough, the towels large and thirsty, our breakfast superb and our hosts were helpful, accommodating and extremely gracious. Felt right at home.

Anniversary Celebration

The Gay Street Inn is a wonderful and convenient place to be near the town at Little Washington. The new owners are as good as the previous ones which means they are OUTSTANDING.

Wonderful Hospitality

5 on July 27, 2013

A charming find, the innkeepers, Wendy and Gary are very nice. A late arrival sent us over to Sperryville where we found a great market with fabulous cheese, beer and prepared foods. The next morning we had a great run around the Little Inn at Washington's garden for and down Harris Hollow turning onto Sunnyside Orchard Road which dead ends for a total of 5.5 miles. Because we thought it connected we ended up being late for breakfast but Wendy and Gary were happy to take care of us and insisted we shower before sitting down. We enjoyed our conversations and breakfast was delicious; broiled grapefruit, sausage quiche with rosemary roasted potatoes. We will definitely return for a relaxing weekend.

Excellent

5 on July 24, 2013

Company's Coming!

A terrific quiet get away allowing one to step back back in time to be treated like guests in my grandmother's time- when all the "best" was pulled out.

Great Inn, Even Better Service

5 on June 14, 2013

We went to Washington to have dinner at the Inn at Little Washington to celebrate our sixth anniversary. We chose the Gay Street Inn because we could bring our dog. We stayed two nights in the Shenandoah Suite. The room and bed were comfortable; the breakfasts great and Kevin was a great host. We will definitely go back again and again.

Outstanding Stay

5 on June 13, 2013

We will definitely be coming back to the Gay Street Inn. Kevin and Jay brought service to a while new level. We were rewarded with excellent food, great company and a memorable experience.

The Perfect Weekend

4.8 on June 10, 2013

My wife and I were in town to celebrate our second anniversary with a dinner at the Inn at Little Washington. Our whole weekend turned out to be quite amazing, and our accommodations at the Gay Street Inn were a big part of that. We found the new owners, Gary and Wendy, to be very kind, and certainly helpful with whatever we needed to make our stay comfortable. The Inn itself is beautiful, comfortable, and in a perfect location for walking the small town of Washington, VA, or for exploring the many other sights within a short drive of the region. A few things in particular that we loved about our stay, were the offering of local VA port and chocolate in the evenings and the amazingly delicious breakfast the was provided in the morning. After our meal at the Inn at Little Washington the night before, who would've thought we'd even want to look at food, but, it was that good! I would recommend the Gay Street Inn to anyone from foodies in town for a meal at the Inn at Little Washington, to outdoors lovers, to anyone just looking to get away from it all. We had a great experience!

Another wonderful stay at the Gay Street Inn

4.8 on May 01, 2013

A visit at the Gay Street Inn is great at any time of the year, but it's especially beautiful in the spring. The Inn has an inviting garden in the back, and just across the street, flowering trees lend their color. If you are not motivated to shop or go to wine country, the front porch is a great choice for reading and relaxation. Hosts Kevin and Jay are extremely helpful with information about the area, giving out maps (some hand-drawn) and advice, as well as making reservations. For those of us who do not get a cell phone signal in that area there is a house phone readily available. We did not spend a lot of time in our room, but it was tastefully decorated, roomy, comfortable, and clean. Breakfast was excellent and well-balanced, and we did not need lunch when we ate Inn breakfasts. Wine in the afternoon and port&chocolates in the evening were lovely touches. We love our visits to the Gay Street Inn in the small town of Washington because we feel so much at home there. We hope to return soon.

Gay street inn

Perfect combination of friendliness and privacy. A quiet street and a short walk to the Inn at Little Washington. Highly recommended.

A night in Washington Virginia

4.6 on February 06, 2013

My wife and I celebrated or anniversary at the Gay Stree Inn. When we arrived we were met by Kevibn and show to our room and given an explanation of the B&B. After we settled in, Kevin suggested we have a glass of wine in the Libary room and sit by the fire. A very nice touch. We had dinner reservations at the Inn of Little Washington. Kevin explained that when we returned from dinner there would be Port and an extra log for the fire. We commented to Kevin how impeccably the Inn was maintained. Kevin was quick to give the credit to his house keeper Edie.We had the pleasure of meeting Edie at breakfast the next morning. Our romm was very comfortable. We had view of the mountains and the Inn's yard. We look forward to visitiong again. I think the fall when the trees are changing colors would be a fantastic time to visit. I would recommend the Gay Street Inn if anyone is planning a visit to Washington Virginia.

Another delightful stay at Gay Street Inn

4.8 on January 03, 2013

The Gay Street Inn offers what we consider to be the quintessential inn experience --- small, owner operated establishment with extremely pleasant rooms, very clean, delightful breakfasts --- and most of all, warm and welcoming Inn Keepers.

Wonderful 15th Anniversary Experience!

5 on December 23, 2012

An immaculate inn with impeccable experience blocks for charming shops and the Inn at Little Washington! I'd return here in a second!

Great stay in teh country

4.8 on December 05, 2012

Washington, Virginia in Rappahanock county. There are no traffic lights in the whole county. The Gay Street Inn is right in the center of town, which is only a few blocks long. Very comfortable B&B, the hosts helped plan our activities. Breakfast was very good.

A quiet getaway with quality

5 on November 26, 2012

Tasteful, well-appointed decor with no froufrou. Wonderful hospitality (a cozy, warm fire in the fireplace...sherry and chocolate after dinner...) and a gourmet brkfst in a sunny brkfst room. One of the best B&Bs we've stayed in over the years.

What a wonderful experience!

4.8 on November 18, 2012

We stayed in the suite at the Gay Street in and it was beautiful and spacious. It had everything we hoped to find... and more. The hosts were very gracious and knowledgable about the area (including hiking). Wine in the afternoon and port and sherry in the late evening were just some of the extras provided. Breakfast both days was incredibly sumptious and more than ample (fresh fruit and a full breakfast). We'll be back!

Great

4.6 on November 16, 2012

Great town, great B&B, great room, great host, great breakfast.

Five Star Experience!

5 on November 15, 2012

This was one of our best B&B stays ever. Great accommodations;stellar breakfasts; friendly, knowledgable hosts; lovely garden. Perfect place to spend the night after dinner at the Inn at Little Washington. Loved the welcoming Virginia wine and the late-nght port and chocolate. Be sure and visit co-owner Kevin Adams' art studio just across the street. His paintings are really lovely.

Meeting Sandy in Washington, VA

4.8 on November 14, 2012

My wife and I met Sandy in Washington, VA. on October 29th, and weathered the wind and rain thanks to Kevin and Jay and the Gay Street Inn. While other B&Bs shuttered their places, Kevin and Jay simply went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and safe. They even gave us an extra flashlight to ensure our safety since the power went out for several hours. Sandy blew through, took out one tree, and we had a wonderful breakfast and one more day's stay. Thanks, gentlemen, for a memorable stay!

Excellent Stay

5 on November 10, 2012

Wonderful property with very hospitable owners. Excellent value!

Charming locale and accomodations!

4.2 on November 08, 2012

Our room was a little small but very comfortable and clean. The innkeepers were very accomodating, helpful with dining suggestions and what to do in the area. The town is very quaint and the Virginia countyside is beautiful. Would definitely recommend the Inn and we plan to return again.

Lovely B&B in Washington VA

4.4 on November 07, 2012

My husband and I celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary at the Gay Street Inn. The Inn is quiet, unpretentious and lovely. The owners could not have been nicer or more helpful. The weekend was relaxing, and we will be back!

Cozy as home

5 on November 05, 2012

Welcoming on every level. Extra warming touches from an evening fire in the fireplace. Hearty breakfast makes it even more memorable.

Charming Inn in WAshington, VA

4.6 on October 28, 2012

We were very pleased with our stay. The location is far enough from the center of town to be quiet but close enough to walk everywhere. Our hosts were charming and provided little luxuries such as chocolates and port in the evening. They provided a map and recommendations about local wineries. The breakfast was delicious and their recipes are available on their web site. If the reason for your visit is eating at the Inn at Little Washington, this is a good choice for lodging.

Impecable B&B

5 on October 25, 2012

We visited Washington, VA to dine at the infamous Inn at Little Washington and stayed at the Gay Street Inn for our anniversary. The dinner was fabulous and our accomodations at the B&B were excellent. Our room was perfect and the hospitality outstanding. Kevin and Jay made us feel at home and were very helpful with locations to see in the surrounding area. Hope we can visit again soon. October, 2012

Heaven in the Shenandoah

5 on October 20, 2012

My husband and I spent our 10th Wedding Anniversary at the Gay Street Inn. It couldn't have been more perfect as the Inn was convenient to both the Shenandoah National Park (which offers amazing hiking and drives) and dining at the restaurant at Little Washington. Kevin and Jay are amazing hosts and the breakfasts were truly delicious. The Gay Street Inn is gorgeously appointed and you feel "at home" the moment you arrive. We are so grateful to Kevin for showing us his studio and sharing his art with us...we couldn't help but take a painting home with us, so we can remember our stay on a daily basis. We will visit again soon and highly reccomend this charming establishment. Cynthia Rullo

An Incredible Experience!

5 on October 18, 2012

A close friend and I stayed at the Gay Street Inn during a long weekend trip to DC and the Shenandoah Valley, and it's not hyperbole to say our stay here was by and far the highlight of the trip - and was the best experience I've ever had staying at a B&B (or for that matter, a hotel). Kevin was our host for the weekend and I can't underestimate how much every detail was thought of; every need you have will have been thought of and provided for already. On Kevin's recommendation we went for a great dinner at a pub 5 minutes away, and then returned to a bottle of port and dark chocolates set out for us in the living room/library (which has a wonderful collection of books, board games, and other nice touches). Complementary wine and cocktails were offered to us several times during our stay. Breakfast was homemade - cornbread pancakes with a raspberry-butter-maple syrup spread, fresh bacon (and a delicious fruit medley for me as a vegetarian), broiled grapefruit, and fresh baked breads. More details: wine key and glasses are provided if you'd like to bring wine back for yourself, any advice you'd need to get the most of the town or the region is readily available, and there's a incredible backyard to a relax in, and a front porch which looks out onto sunsets over the mountains. Finally, the aesthetics of the place are perfectly done - elegant, homey, comfortable, and completely free of kitsch. All and all, the Gay Street Inn is an amazing place to call home for a day or a week!

A wonderful B&B

5 on October 16, 2012

This was our second year at this fine B&B. We will be back again next October. We have stayed in all the B&Bs within walking distance of the Inn At Little Washington. They are all nice, but this has been our favorite recently.

2 Enthusiastic Thumbs Up

4.4 on October 14, 2012

In town for a family birthday celebration at the Inn at Little Washington, we sought more reasonably priced accommodations within walking distance (for an easy stumble home after dinner). The beautifully appointed Gay Street Inn more than met our expectations: from the warm & friendly greeting from the Inn's owners at our arrival, to the divinely comfortable beds to the gourmet breakfast, no detail was left to chance. I left wishing I could have stayed longer.

wonderful place to stay in (Little) Washington, VA.

5 on October 13, 2012

We spent a wonderful night here and couldn't recommend it more highly. The hosts are friendly, professional and knowledgeable. The breakfast was excellent and beautifully served. I would stay here again and again!

Great B&B near Inn at Little Washington

4.2 on October 11, 2012

We stayed in the Garden Room for our 10th wedding anniversary. We walked (2 blocks) to the Inn at Little Washington for dinner one night. The owners, Kevin and Jay, were wonderful. They were very helpful without being pushy. The breakfasts were terrific and service was exceptional. They are very friendly and welcoming. Room was simple and elegant, clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Don't like the overly Victorian b&bs so this was perfect. Would definitely recommend!

wonderful stay

5 on October 10, 2012

my husband and I celebrated our 15th anniversary by dinning at the inn at little washington and the stay at the gay street inn was the icing on the cake! we were treated so well by kevin & jay and really enjoyed a relaxing weekend and delicious breakfast - we will be back!

Great place to stay

4.8 on October 09, 2012

Had a dinner reservation at the Inn at Little Washington but couldn't get rooms there so opted for the Gay Street Inn and we had a wonderful time. The owners came out and greeted us, knew all about our reservation and showed us to our room while telling us about the complementary breakfast and the tray of port and chocolate that they set out in the evening. Made us feel very welcome. Room was nice, clean and very non-hotel like (a good thing and what you expect in a good B&B). Breakfast was spectacular with both owners up and about sharing tips for sightseeing in the area etc. All in all a great stay at a reasonable price.

Very clean, comfortable and pet friendly

4.2 on October 03, 2012

Our pet friendly suite was spacious and immaculate. Great town for walking. Kevin and Jay were very gracious.

A Wonderful B&B

5 on October 02, 2012

My wife and I stayed at the Gay Street Inn this past weekend, and it exceeded our expectations in every way. The house itself is clean and bright and cheery. The rooms are an excellent mix modern and quaint. They are newly renovated and well furnished (we got to see almost all of the different rooms). But best of all is the innkeepers. They are extremely friendly and accommodating. They make you feel right at home and will happily answer your every question. Their hospitality is some of the best I've ever experienced. And they cook a stellar breakfast to boot (the morning we left, they served freshly baked cranberry muffins, yogurt parfit, and cream cheese-stuffed french toast with bacon...delicious). I would come back to this B&B in a second, and I highly recommend it to everyone.

The Best

5 on October 01, 2012

Having stayed in a number of B&B.s over the years, Gay St. Inn should be the model for the others. Our host was charming, welcoming and helpful; all without being intrusive, The property was both immaculate and very tastefully decorated. You adjust the temp of your room, port and chocolate offered in the evening, pumpkin bread and coffee available at 8am and a freshly prepared breakfast when requested. And helped us with our bags to and from our car. What else could one want? Daniel and Barbara Brown, Baltimore MD

One of the best B&Bs in the Blue Ridge Mountains!

4.8 on September 19, 2012

My wife and I stayed at the Gay Street Inn for a combined birthday/anniversary trip to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, and we could not have picked a better place to stay. Kevin and Jay were outstanding hosts with a keen attention to detail, such as their putting out port and chocolate every night in the library for a night cap. Jay's breakfasts were amazing with generous servings of fresh fruits and one of the best french toasts I've had in ages. Kevin was a great resource for local info on hiking trails and eateries, beating any concierge at a five-star hotel. We stayed in the modern country-style Bradams Ridge Room, which was clean, cozy, and comfortable, including a nifty double-headed shower. We certainly look forward to staying here again!

Clean, comfortable and convenient

5 on September 17, 2012

My husband and I stayed here on a Saturday night following a late dinner at the Inn at Little Washington, in honor of my husband's 60th birthday. The inn is just 2 blocks from the IatLW so it was convenient to walk there, even after dark. We had the Shenandoah Suite which was right off the parlor and extremely clean and comfortable, also very private. The innkeepers were very hospitable and helpful as we were deciding how to spend the afternoon before dinner. And breakfast was delicious! I wouldn't mind staying there again for more than one night. One of the most comfortable inns I've visited, anywhere.

wonderful stay

Could not have asked for more

Loved it!!!!

5 on August 28, 2012

Stayed one night and loved it. Drive there was beautiful. I recommend following the directions on their website. We stayed in the Blue room. It was well decorated and clean. Very comfortable and inviting. They have a huge backyard with chairs scattered throughout for you to relax. The gentlemen that own the inn are so friendly and made an incredible breakfast in the morning. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Washington, VA. Kevin is also a very talented artist so you have to check out his studio across the street during your stay too!!!

A Great, Reasonably Priced Place to Stay in Little Washington

4.8 on August 21, 2012

If you are planning to spend the night in Washington, VA, in order to dine at the Inn at Little Washington or for other reasons, you can't be more comfortable at a more reasonable price than at the Gay St Inn. The house is very pleasant and comfortable, the hosts are very gracious and knowledgeable, and the breakfast is fantastic. They also provide wine from good local wineries to begin your evening properly.

A little piece of heaven

5 on August 15, 2012

This bed and breakfast is perfectly wonderful! The owners are magnificent. As soon as my husband and I walked in the door, the charm and comfort hugged us! It is such a comfortable place which we enjoyed so very much. The gardens are beautiful, and the place is immaculate. We had to leave early on the morning so we weren't able to enjoy the breakfast, which smelled delicious. We are planning on returning next year and stay a few days instead of just one night!

Great - very enjoyable weekend

4.6 on August 15, 2012

This is a great little B&B in a wonderful little town in Virginia. Very worth the visit

Peaceful and charming getaway

Best place to stay in Washington, VA

4.4 on July 29, 2012

The best thing about the Inn, beyond its location, cleanliness, great breakfasts, is the attention paid to guests by the owners. They are knowledgeable about the area and make sure each guest has the itinerary that is best for them. Will stay here again next time for sure.

Outstanding stay.

4.2 on July 25, 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Gay Street Inn for two nights while attending a wedding in the area. From the minute we arrived, we were made to feel at home, offered a glass of wine to relax and told about a few options for dinner in the area. Kevin and Jay offered useful advice for things to do in the area when the weather didn't cooperate with our plans, and the breakfast they provided each morning was delicious. The room was very spacious, the bed comfortable and the temperature could be controlled right from our room. Would definitely stay there again!

Very friendly B&B

4.6 on July 24, 2012

Unfortunately we didn't get to stay for breakfast as we had to leave early to be in North Carolina for a wedding but Kevin was very hospitable and we would defintely stay there again if we are in the area.

Kevin rocks

5 on July 21, 2012

This wonderfully quiet and private B&B is a perfect place to get away from the city's hustle and bustle. Kevin is just the best host and he will make sure you have everything you need, whether it is a place to have a gourmet meal or a map to take an adventurous hike. We think it is best to come for at least 2 nights to fully enjoy the experience, otherwise you may feel a bit rushed. And don't forget to stay for Kevin's home made scrumptious breakfast, finger-licking delicious! We are definitely coming back.

We stayed here for dinner at the nearby Inn at Little Washington - one of the area's most prominent restaurants. Gay Street Inn is 3 blocks away and a very convenient walk. The host was charming and very helpful, even lending me cufflinks when I noticed I forgot mine. The property is beautiful.

Amazing Anniversary Getaway

5 on May 17, 2012

Kevin and Jay are a first-class team of hosts who see that everything is just-so in their lovely and carefully furnished hideaway. They are welcoming without being overly doting, but they have thought of each small detail: Sferra linens and towels, period furniture, garden grottoes. Breakfast is idyllic in the garden room and they go out of their way to feed you well and make you feel welcome. Any small touches you wish to have are cheerfully handled. I can't imagine our stay being any better.

Tranquility and Comfort

5 on May 15, 2012

This B&B is lovely, spotless and comfortable. Kevin was attentive to our every need. We had a delightful celebration of our 30th wedding anniversary. I would recommend this B&B to anyone who enjoys quality and comfort and very relaxing surroundings.

A Delightful Surprise

4.8 on May 10, 2012

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gay Street Inn. The Inn is furnished beautifully, and is full of many thoughtful touches. Kevin and Jay are excellent hosts.

loved it!

4.8 on May 09, 2012

The Gay Street Inn was great! My fiance & I went there for my birthday weekend. It is a short walk to Inn at Little Washington. The food and hospitality were fabulous. We stayed in the Sheridan Suite, it was nice to have our own eat in kitchen. I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone.

Our stay at the Gay Street Inn

4.6 on May 09, 2012

This is a great spot to stay if you're going to the Inn at Little Washington for dinner. It's within walking distance and it's lovely. The proprietors are great, very helpful but not too in your face. The rooms are beautiful, simply appointed without overdoing it and the whole inn is immaculate. Highly recommend!

Beautiful Inn in Washington

4.0 on April 18, 2012

We were in Washington, VA to celebrate my birthday and had a wonderful stay at the inn. The proprietors were lovely!

Terrific place; helpful innkeepers; pet-friendly room is appreciated

5 on April 13, 2012

The Gay Street Inn is perfect for exploring the Shenandoah National Park. Our hosts, Kevin and Jay, provided an outstanding breakfast and lots of helpful advice regarding good hikes and dinner reservations. The one pet-friendly room is great - it has a small kitchenette and is really the size of studio which made things easy. Non-pet people should know that pets are not allowed in any other part of the B& B (like the sitting room) so it's win-win for both pet-owners and those who are not pet-lovers (or have allergies.) The front porch is a relaxing spot to hang out as is the beautiful backyard. Both have comfortable chairs and a beer or glass of wine is provided in the afternoons. Washington VA is a quiet, bucolic spot and this inn is a lovely place to stay.

Wonderful!

5 on April 07, 2012

My husband and I stayed here for our fifth anniversary. We had dinner at the Inn at Little Washington, which is within walking distance. Kevin gave us great tips about the area and the breakfast was delicious! I would definitely stay here again!

Great Second Visit to Gay Street Inn

5 on March 07, 2012

This was my second visit to the Gay Street Inn and it did not disappoint. The rooms are nicely decorated and the proprietors, Jay and Kevin, are kind, helpful, and friendly hosts. I will definitely book another stay the next time we are in the area.

Anniversary 2-23-12

5 on March 01, 2012

My partner and I celebrated our anniversary here. The room was great, the meals fantastic and the hospitality beyond reproach. Jay and Kevin went out of their way to make sure our stay contained every element we could want, including arranging massages for us at the Inn. All we had to do was ask and they made it happen. Their guidance on what to see and do was truly appreciated. THANKS guys.

Amazing B&B

5 on February 27, 2012

My husband and I stayed here for an anniversary celebration. We had an amazing night. The only complaint was that we couldn't stay longer. The breakfast was fabulous, and the hosts were more than helpful with any and all of our needs. We stayed in the Mountain View room and would definitely choose that again, but I did not see the other rooms to comment on. I very highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast when visiting Little Washington.

A Great Stay!

5 on February 19, 2012

We love this Inn. This was our second visit to the Gay Street Inn. It was even better than the last time, if that is even possible. We stayed in the Garden room. It s gorgeous. Jay and Kevin are amazing hosts. Breakfast is delicious, and the home is lovely. We couldn't ask for more. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

Perfect place to stay an Inn at Little Washington visit

4.4 on February 18, 2012

This B&B was simply the best I've ever stayed at. Kevin and Jay have it figured out perfectly. They are not too distant nor too close. Wonderful accomodations, and they took care of our add-on requests beautifully. They even helped with our luggage! Kevin's pancakes are not to be missed. I thought I wasn't very hungry, and ended up cleaning my plate! We will be very happy to return.

Absolutely fantastic

4.0 on February 14, 2012

Great room and friendly, non-intrusive service. Can't go wrong staying here.

Just what we needed

4.4 on February 08, 2012

Kevin and Jay are outstanding hosts. My wife and I stayed in the Shenandoah Suite because it accomodates dogs. It was a great room. We are looking for reasons to stay there again.

Perfect Getaway

4.6 on February 02, 2012

I cannot say enough good things about the Gay Street Inn...we spent a wonderful weekend there with our main plan to dine on Saturday night at the Inn at Little Washington. From check-in to check-out, it was an absolute delight to be there and Kevin & Jay are welcoming and attentive without ever being intrusive. Their recommendations for places to eat and area happenings were spot on, and the pancakes were some of the best I"ve ever had. We can't wait to return again soon for another country escape!

Charming B&B

Beautiful home. Hosts put care and thought into every detail. Our stay was very comfortable and relaxing. Will recommend to all of our friends

We hope to go back!

4.8 on January 17, 2012

Everything about our stay at the Gay Street Inn was wonderful. The rooms were beautifully decorated, amenities very comfortable. The breakfast was AMAZING and featured delicious banana scones, locally roasted coffee, and tasty cornmeal pancakes. Kevin was very nice and accommodating. He offered a glass of wine upon our arrival, and we returned from our dinner to find port and chocolate waiting for us in the library/living room. We visited on a perfect winter night, but hope to go back in warmer weather. He really 'sold' Rappahannock County to us, and I cannot say enough good things about our experience at the Gay Street Inn. We highly recommend this b&b.

Get Pampered!

Serene, thoughtful, little touches, individual attention, lovely

A Lovely Place to Spend the Weekend

4.2 on January 04, 2012

My SO and I visited the Gay Street Inn for his birthday, and we had a wonderful time. The room was great, but the service was wonderful. Kevin was exceptionally courteous, going above and beyond to make our stay pleasant, while Jay's cooking was to die for! Our favorite part of the B&B was the evening port & chocolate we enjoyed by the fire in the Library. Also, the house was full of Kevin's amazing art work--a real treat to view. All in all, I would recommend this place to everyone! Thank you, gentlemen! We hope to return next year.

Outstanding!

4.6 on December 22, 2011

A perfect get-away for a special occasion. Warm and pleasant in spite of a cold and rainy day. Highly recommended as an overnight accommodation when dining at the Inn at Little Washington.

Complete Relaxation!

5 on December 12, 2011

Wonderful, relaxing stay!! Kevin and Jay are just the best host. When we got back from our dinner at The Inn at Little Washington we were pleasantly surprised to find a bottle of port, beautiful glassware, and chocolates. We relaxed in the living room by the fire (no chestnuts roasting!) and had a perfect ending to the day. :)

Wonderful warm and inviting

5 on December 08, 2011

I had a wonderful time at this BB. You can't go wrong. The host is just so very pleasant, you'll feel very comfortable. The place is spotless, the home is charming and beautiful and their food was really good.

First time visit to the Gay Street Inn

4.8 on December 05, 2011

For my recent Birthday, I made dinner reservations at The Inn at Little Washington did not want to have to drive back home after dinner. After doing some research on the few Bed and Breakfasts near the restaurant, I decided to stay at The Gay Street Inn. I'm so glad I did! Kevin, one of the Innkeepers, walked out to greet me as I was getting out of my car and carried my suitcase inside for me; what a lovely welcome. He showed me to my room, which I had selected after viewing the photos on the website, and it looked even prettier in person. Kevin was very warm and wanted to make sure I had everything I needed, even offering me a glass of wine. He told me how I could reach him if I discovered I needed anything during my stay. When I returned from dinner, the lights were on in the library and a bottle of port was set out with glasses for an after dinner drink! I had a lovely breakfast the next morning, of cornmeal pancakes, fresh fruit, scones and local coffee, in the light filled breakfast room. There was one little glitch with the toilet, but it was taken care of immediately and I did not feel inconvenienced. I am looking forward to staying again but for at least a weekend next time.

Review of Gay Street Inn

4.4 on November 23, 2011

This is the third time we have stayed at the Gay Street Inn. We have stayed at many B & Bs over the last 7 or 8 years and this Inn is our number one favorite by far. Kevin and Jay go out of their way to make their Inn feel like home in every way.

Charming B&B

4.2 on November 18, 2011

We stayed here in conjunction with a trip to have dinner at the Inn at Little Washington. The house has been beautifully restored and renovated in a way that seamlessly blends the old and new; our room was very attractive and spacious. We only interacted with Kevin during our visit; he was an excellent host. We were offered drinks (very nice Virginia wines) prior to heading out for dinner and there was also port and chocolate waiting for us when we got back. The breakfast was excellent, and is served in a small dining room that overlooks the garden in the back. Overall, a peaceful and pleasant visit. We would definitely choose to stay here again.

Everything you want and more!

5 on November 14, 2011

We could not have had a more enjoyable time than we had at the Gay Street Inn. We chose a beautiful fall day to drive through the Blue Ridge Mountains as the leaves had recently changed. Our reason for arriving in (Little) Washington, Virginia was, of course to dine at the famed Inn at Little Washington and it was only by happenstance that we found the Gay Street Inn as a place to stay. On arriving at the Inn, we were enthusiastically greet by Kevin, one of the innkeepers. He was polite and pleasant and quick to make conversation. Our second floor room was beautifully renovated with a view towards the mountains and a stunning bathroom with Double Shower. The large bed was comfortable and we were able to regulate the temperature in our room without issue. Following our magnificent feast at the IALW, we arrived back at GSI to find Port wine, dark chocolate and a log for the fireplace ready and waiting. What a wonderful conclusion to our night! The next morning, we lounged again in the library and had a gourmet breakfast made at the inn with homemade blueberry scones, pancakes with Maple Cranberry butter and broiled grapefruit. Heavenly! The breakfast room had wonderful large windows and lots of sunlight which helped us rub the sleep from our eyes. It was hard to leave but we had to get back to "real life". We've already recommended the GSI to multiple friends and hope to go back again sooner than later. It's a gem located in this quaint little town!

The Gay Street Inn was Fantastic

4.8 on November 10, 2011

Kevin and Jay did a great job. The place was beautiful, they were very helpful assisting with plans and the food was delicious. No point in looking anywhere else when staying in Little Washington.

A great stay in one of America's most beautiful towns

4.8 on November 07, 2011

We found the Gay Street Inn on-line. We booked the Shenandoah Suite and confirmation from the Inn was quick and helpful. On arrival, Kevin offered us wine on the front porch, which is a wonderful place to sit and relax with a great view of the mountains. Our friends, also staying at the Inn, joined us later and received the same welcoming. The Inn is on a very quiet dead end street and has a beautifully landscaped lawn. The rooms are spotless and very quiet. Breakfast was great, french toast with fresh fruit in a very comfortable small dining area at the back of the house. We got great advice from Kevin on wineries, a small place to eat in Flint Hill and shops in town. This is a great inn, well priced, and we will definitely go back.

Great little inn in Little Washington

4.8 on November 06, 2011

Our visit to VA was highlighted by this special inn. The hosts were attentive to our every need.

I'm hard to please

3.2 on October 25, 2011

Please don't be put off by the lack of "Outstandings" on this review. The Gay Street Inn is a perfectly acceptable B&B, and I'd stay there again if I needed a room in that area. However, it doesn't compare favorably with some of the truly "outstanding" hotels and resorts where I have stayed in my travels.

Don't bother with the Inn at Little Washington, this is better.

4.8 on October 24, 2011

Having specific eating requirements means that I cannot eat the usual breakfast at a bed and breakfast. At the Gay Street Inn they went out of their way to meet my food requirements, even cooking separate breads and pancakes for me. Adding to the delight of the food was the eating area which looks out over a beautiful garden. One of our best experiences ever!

Gay Street Inn

5 on October 20, 2011

The host, Kevin Adams, was outstanding. He told us about the area and suggested several places of interest. The room was very comfortable and very clean; breakfast was "eggs on a cloud" - not only pretty, but good. I highly recomend the Gay Street Inn.

Columbus Day at the Gay Street Inn

4.8 on October 13, 2011

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Gay Street Inn over Columbus Day weekend. The Inn is very clean and nicely restored. My boyfriend's favorite part: the shower and water pressure in the garden room! My favorite part: the delicious breakfast. We both loved eating in the sunroom, looking out on a large, beautiful back yard. We would definitely go back to the Inn again!

Lovely!

4.6 on October 12, 2011

This and dinner at the Inn at Little Washington was a Christmas gift from my son. Dinner was beyond wonderful and the B & B was lovely. I would stay there again if I am ever back in that part of the country.

Marvelous!

5 on October 11, 2011

Hosts are incredible and provided great information about the local area, things to do, where to go, and lots more. The site is lovely, quiet, and restful, and the food is outstanding.

One of our best B&B experiences

4.4 on October 03, 2011

We are B&B people and this was decidedly one of the best we have experienced on either side of the Atlantic. Clean, quiet, comfortable, attractive, a charming host, and coffee (and a pastry) available an hour before breakfast at 8:30, and port and chocolate at bedtime. We've already made plans to go back next year.

A wonderful B & B

5 on September 19, 2011

The owners were incredibly hospitable, the room was beautifully decorated and immaculately clean, and the breakfast was delicious. Bonus: One of the owners is a painter with his studio next door.

The perfect place to stay after dinner up the street. Beautifully renovated, spacious, and graciously hosted.

anniversary get away

4.2 on August 25, 2011

we saw great reviews about the Gay St Inn. before we booked it. Kevin, the innkeeper greeted us. he was very personable and friendly. offered us a glass of wine when we got there and brought us a generous glass with a bowl of nuts. the house was lovely with a library and lots of games. in the evening, a bottle of port and chocolates were put out for the guest to enjoy. this was very nice. there was no TV in our room but the room was spacious, clean and comfortable. they had bath amenities as well. they offered newspapers for the guests and breakfast was fabulous. they adjusted the dish for those who did not want to eat meat. we had some sweet baked bread/loaf, amazing bowl of fruit a and and egg and ham egg white souffle with toast. Kevin gave us maps and recommendations where to go- wineries, lunch, home made pie store, etc. I would stay here again.

Fabulous

4.8 on August 24, 2011

We are planning to go again. Lovely place, beautifully furnished, a delicious breakfast, but mostly the hosts were gracious, welcoming and charming.

Great place to stay

4.6 on August 24, 2011

Kevin and Jay do a fabulous job. The Inn is delightful on all categories.

Our 2-night stay in August

5 on August 23, 2011

Innkeeper Kevin truly went above and beyond to answer our questions about area activities and provide recommendations for dining, wineries, and great locations for photo opportunities. Our room (Bradams Ridge) was quite cozy and comfortable, with a nice space outside the bathroom to put luggage. We especially enjoyed the two-headed shower and huge luxury bath towels! Our 2 breakfasts prepared by Kevin and Jay were delicious and excellently presented. They included lots of fresh fruit, banana nut bread and scones, and a hot entree. And wonderfully strong coffee using beans right from Rappahanock County. Lastly, we were treated to port and chocolates in the evening, with wine also available in the afternoon. We agree with the comment made by many other guests: No details have been missed.

30th Weddding Anniversary

5 on August 19, 2011

This was a great find. The innkeepers (Jay and Kevin) couldn't have been nicer. They made us feel welcomed and comfortable for the entire stay. The breakfast was outstanding. We're definitely going back and we recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone.

Great B&B in Washington VA

5 on August 14, 2011

Quiet and secluded in a small town with easy walk to 5 star dinning at the Inn at Little Washington. Kevin and Jay were perfect hosts serving a wonderful fresh breakfast on their garden porch. Our Mountain View room looked out at the Shennadoah mts. with a great bed and quiet location. Definitely eat at the great restaurant up the the street, but stay with Gay St. Inn.

A wonderful experience

4.8 on August 11, 2011

We had a wonderful stay at Gay Street B&B. The place was lovely and very well maintained. I broke my ankle the week before I came, but since we had booked the first floor room, it caused no problems. The owners were great hosts. The breakfasts were a nice size...plentiful but not gargantuan and it was so pleasant to look at the garden while we ate. It was a great value. Admittedly if someone is TV addicted, not a good choice, but they have wireless! I highly recommend this B&B for people looking for someplace to stay when planning a meal at the Inn at Little Washington...or for anyone looking for a place to stay when vacationing central Virginia. We would love to go back.

Unique-Hospitable-B&B

5 on August 10, 2011

I loved the location and the quaint simplicity this B&B offered. This made the perfect getaway from reality for my boyfriend and I, and I would certainly visit again. It was easy to get to know other guests, or to read a book privately in the backyard. It's the little things that make a big difference for me and offering Port after a night out, and keeping bug spray nearby the outside were key elements for me. Walls were a bit paper thin so it was hard to have a conversation o others in the hallway hearing, but all in all, I loved it!

Gay Street Inn

4.6 on July 20, 2011

Very comfortable, very clean, and very accomodating. Outstanding breakfast. Hosts more than willing to help with planning days. Visitors need to stock up on some staples, e.g. club soda, fruit. There are not many well-stocked grocery stores in the area.

We loved stayin g at Gay Street Inn

4.8 on July 19, 2011

We've stayed at B&Bs before where the host is difficult to locate when we arrive and sticks to the basics of hospitality. But Jay and Kevin were readily available to help us with our trips around the area, they offered wine right when we got there, and put out port and chocolates in the evening when we returned from our meal out. They made an excellent breakfast of delicious fresh fruit, scones, and an egg dish. The coffee was from the roasting company in the area and was delicious, too. The Inn was also great place to make our home-base from which to venture and to the wineries in the area. They provided a few tasting passes to some of the local wineries, which were really nice to have. We'd come there again, for sure!

Stay at Gay Street Inn

4.8 on July 05, 2011

Comfortable room and an outstanding gourmet breakfast. The yard in the back of the house is so well groomed, and a relaxing place to read the Wasington Post in the morning which is supplied by the Inn.

A gem in Little Washington

4.8 on June 30, 2011

Only stayed one night, but innkeepers were extremely attentive and helpful, room was spacious, clean, comfortable, breakfast was delicious. Will definitely go back.

Tranquility in the Virginia Pastoral Countryside

5 on June 26, 2011

This is a spectacular and restful setting with a lovely front porch to take in the gorgeous scenery and tranquil spots to enjoy the garden in the back. Kevin was a gracious host with excellent tips on the surrounding area. The Garden Room was spacious and the breakfast was scrumptious. We are looking forward to our next visit!

Great stay; would return again in a heartbeat!

5 on June 26, 2011

Beautiful room, and Kevin and Jay are incredibly gracious hosts. It's ideal location for exploring Washington, VA and surrounding communities and vineyards in Rappahannock County, and Kevin and Jay were really helpful with orientation and suggestions as we needed them. Fabulous breakfast and a beautiful, wide porch for whiling away an afternoon were unexpected bonuses.

Stay at Gay Street Inn

The inn is charming, well decorated, and very clean. The hosts outdid themselves to make our stay the best without intruding on our privacy. Food and drinks were excellent!! We had a great experience, all around.

A Diamond in Washington, VA

5 on June 20, 2011

My wife and I were traveling to Washington, VA, to enjoy the fine food of the Washington Inn. The cost to stay at the Inn was prohibitive, so we reviewed other properties in the area. And, we found the Gay Street Inn, a gem of a property. We spent two nights in the Blue Rom, and were so very pleased with all aspects of the Inn, the room, the service, the ease of check-in and check-out. However, the single most item that we enjoyed more than all, was the privacy and quietness of the property. Should our travels take us back into this area, the Gay Street Inn will always be our first choice. It certainly gave us new perspective as to what a Bed and Breakfast is all about. For this, we are truly grateful.

A welcoming place to stay.

4.2 on June 14, 2011

The Gay Street Inn provides all the comfort one wants when vsiting Little Washington. The hosts have gone out of their way to be welcoming and helpful. They offer a refined atmosphere and cordiality. A drink of wine upon arrival; a comfortable room and bath; an excellent breakfast ina beautiful day room. We would definitely return on our next visit to little Washington, VA.

Couldn't be better

5 on June 12, 2011

Wonderful stay and Kevin was the perfect host who served us delicious local wines prior to our dinner at the Inn and it was capped off by a glass of port afterwards. Kevin and Jay are quite accomplished artists and their paintings and pottery are displayed throughout the beautifully decorated B&B. Breakfast was delicious. If in Washington, the Gay Street B&B is a great experience.

A lovely getaway

5 on June 12, 2011

We went to the Inn at Little Washington for my husband's birthday and stayed at the Gay Street Inn. The whole experience was perfect. The owners were so welcoming, the room was very cute and clean, and the little touches, the welcoming glass of wine and after-dinner port, just made you want to sit back and relax. The breakfast the next morning was delicious (great coffee). If you are looking for a relaxing getaway, I would absolutely recommend.

Hidden Gem

5 on June 08, 2011

We were dining at the Inn at little Washington and wanted to stay nearby. The Inn and it's rooms are thoughtfully furnished, comfortable and tastefully decorated. Service is exactly as it should be - unobtrusive! Enjoy a complimentary glass of wine in the charming garden or on the porch as we did. Chocolate and port is laid out for guests to enjoy later in the evening. Breakfast was home made but definitely gourmet - apricot and nut bread, fruit salad followed by cornmeal pancakes with maple syrup & cranberry butter plus bacon. We wanted to move in! Can't rate the Inn and it's hosts highly enough. We'll be back.

a wonderful weekend

5 on June 02, 2011

Friendly welcoming hosts, outstanding quiet location, small-town charm, a great front porch, comfortable and immaculate rooms - what else could you want? Excellent breakfast. Port wine and chocolates at night. Plenty of local knowledge enthusiastically shared. We hope to be back.

Great place near DC and in the middle of wine country. The Hosts were outstanding.

Can't wait to return

4.6 on May 30, 2011

My husband and I spent a night in the Shenandoah suite with mini kitchen and seating area. The room was delightful, comfortable king bed and beautifully decorated. Innkeeper, Kevin, provided helpful hints on dining at the Inn at Little Washington, local hiking and wineries. The garden was a lovely spot to enjoy the complementary glass of wine upon arrival, and the port and chocolate after dinner were a pleasant touch. The home-made breakfast was delicious. We will definitely return to this lovely, friendly inn and do more exploring in this beautiful area of Virginia.

A great inn with a personnaly guided tour of the Artist Studio

5 on May 29, 2011

We could not have had a nicer stay. The room was perfect, the breakfast was great, and the Innkeeper (Kevin) was a wonderful host. We look forward to seeing some more of his beautiful landscape paintings in the future as well

A wonderful get-away

4.0 on May 29, 2011

We stayed at the Gay Street Inn during a family reunion. Kevin was more than accommodating. We lost the key to the room and he was not at all upset. He just said "If you find it when you return home you can send it to us." I will definitely return again.

Everything a B&B should be, plus!

4.6 on May 27, 2011

Everything spot on perfect for us. Kevin was the perfect host and we would not hesitate to return there.

Wonderful stay at the Gay Street Inn

5 on May 24, 2011

Jay had a warm & thorough welcome & even brought out arm chairs so we could enjoy a sunny afternoon in their beautiful garden. From 'soup to nuts' the house and the hospitality was great. I especially appreciated the offer at breakfast to help us plan our day--and maps! How thoughtful and the first from an innkeeper. Keep up the great work guys!

So much better than a business hotel!!

4.8 on May 23, 2011

I stayed at the Gay Street Inn after a long week of work and staying in a different business hotel every night (Sheraton, Hilton Garden Inn, etc.). What a breath of fresh air to stay at the Gay Street Inn! It was restful and quiet and the food was delicious (LOVE the breakfast). I made it to Washington, VA, around 11:30 at night, and they had left port and chocolates out for me. A good hot shower, port, chocolates, and a little reading, and I had the most restful night of sleep that I had had all week. I hope I get to come back when I 'm not working!

Exceedingly restful and relaxing accommodations

4.6 on May 20, 2011

Whether do activities in the small town of Washington or around Rappahannock this is a very nice stay. Central to the county and in the midst of Northern VA wineries. Accommodations very comfortable, landscaped and open yard, breakfast area, front porch, and living areas all excellent. The proprietors make you feel at home from start to finish from welcoming cordials to a great breakfast. Good place to start to explore the county.

B&B done right

4.2 on May 17, 2011

My fiancee arrived around 7pm and Kevin was quick to show us our room, explain the general b&b schedule, double-check our timeframe for any dinner reservations we had, and offer us wine on the front porch. We stayed in the Mountain View room, which was very clean, and had a huge bathroom. It was raining and foggy, so we couldn't see the mountains, but it was delightful nonetheless. After eating at the Inn at Little Washington (only 2 blocks away), we walked back to the Gay Street Inn to find some wine and chocolates waiting in the living room. Breakfast was excellent. Jay made pancakes topped with maple syrup-and-fruit-infused homemade butter. It was paired with some perfectly cooked local, grass-fed bacon. The coffee was also very, very good. The dining area had lovely views of the well-maintained rear garden and plenty of natural light. There were newspapers available (both national and local) and wifi for those who like to read their news online. It was an excellent stay and I would highly recommend this to other couples.

Clean, Comfortable and Friendly

4.6 on May 16, 2011

We spent on night at the inn and had a great experience. The innkeeper was extremely helpful, offering to help with bags, providing great information about the area, and just being there for anything we migth need. We stayed in Bradam's Ridge for our 1 year anniversary after a dinner at the chef's table at the Inn at Little Washington. The room was cozy and warm, the bathroom was wonderful - with two showerheads, a large-sized hairdryer and extra toilet paper rolls tied with peach-colored ribbon (such a nice touch!). Kevin (Jay, unfortunately, was on a business trip so we didn't have the pleasure of meeting him) was an incredible host. He is an incredible chef and baker - even sent us home with two of his homemade cranberry-orange scones that I have become obsessed with. He went out of his way to have a gorgeous arrangement of wildflowers for our arrival and rented road bikes for us in advance. Kevin went out of his way to help us set out a trail and gave us a certificate for a free tasting at the local Rappahannock Cellars. He even printed out directions for us to go through Shannandoah National Park before our drive home. All in all, the food was great and the service was stellar. We will definitely recommend this place to friends, family, strangers, anyone we meet!

WOnderful stay and the Gay Street Inn

4.8 on April 06, 2011

I was surprised with how confortable the room was and how quiet the night was. The Inn was booked up, but we didn't hear any one else the entire night. Breakfast in the morning was absolutely amazing. Kevin and Jay couldn't have been more attentive to all of us.

A pleasant weekend night

4.6 on April 04, 2011

My wife and I spent a peaceful Saturday night at the Gay Street Inn and were very pleased. The owners were exceedingly friendly and gracious, our room was clean and charming and the breakfast was delicious. The only thing I would change is that we stayed in the Shenandoah Suite -- on the ground floor near the front door -- and so heard every guest come in and out of the inn quite clearly, including those returning late at night (and loudly) from dinner at the Inn at Little Washington. I think next time we would choose a room on the 2nd floor. Beyond that -- no complaints, and we would stay here again.

Virginian hospitality at ist best!

4.8 on April 04, 2011

My husband and I went to Washington, VA to enjoy an evening at the Little Inn, compliments of our children. We choose the Gay Street Inn and were totally pleased. We were met by a very friendly innkeeper who took our bags to our room (that was a first). He explained how the inn operated and asked for our questions. Told us to ring the bell at any time and someone would answer promptly. This did occur as noted. Always very hospitable and always a smile on their faces. The living room was very inviting: a fireplace, newpapers and books available. Beautiful painitings adorned this cozy room. Breakfast was delicious (chef is quite creative). Since there was no cell phone available in the mountains, the innkeepers provided a lan line for our use. Thank you. We will be back!!

Best B&B I've stayed in the area!

4.8 on March 31, 2011

I've stayed at many area B&Bs for my pilgrimmage to dine at The Inn at Little Washington and Gay Street Inn is by far the best. Kevin was a welcoming, erudite host. Our room was spacious and very clean. The breakfast room overlooks a lovely yard.

Great stay at the Gay St Inn

5 on March 30, 2011

An Oasis of Peace and Loveliness

4.6 on March 30, 2011

Wonderfully homey and beautiful at the same time. The host made us feel very welcome. We enjoyed a fire, wine and reading in the lovely living room on a weekend afternoon. Our room was great. A 3-minute walk from the Inn at Little Washington.

Awesome experience! Hope to go back soon!

5 on March 28, 2011

The room was of large size and very clean. Nice touch with wine on arrival and portwine/chocolates in the evening. The fireplace in the living room was also very nice. Breakfast was delicious and served right when they said it would be. Would definitely go back!

Wonderful stay at the Gay Street Inn

4.8 on March 28, 2011

We fully enjoyed our stay at the Inn. Having made a reservation for dinner at the Inn at Little Washington, chose this property within walking distance and are very glad we did. It was perfect! The town itself is historic, quaint and walkable. The Inn and our room were quiet, lovely, cozy and homey. The room was large and bright with plenty of chairs, lights and closet space. The living room has a working fireplace and many books. The breakfast was delicious! I even asked for the recipe - cornmeal pancakes with cranberry/maple butter and the bacon was fantastic. In the evening, port and chocolates are offered. Highly recommend the Gay St Inn!

Peaceful getaway in Washington, VA

5 on March 24, 2011

My wife and I had never been to Washington, VA , but we could not be happier with our recent stay at the Gay Street Inn. It is ideally located on a quiet dead-end street off the main roads that cross through the village. Our room - Mountain View - was beautifully appointed, spacious and had very comfortable furniture. We enjoyed reading and listening to birds on the front porch, and decamped to the living room with its fireplace after a fabulous dinner just down the street at the Inn at Little Washington. To cap everything off, their breakfast room was bright and sunny, with fantastic food and service. We'll be back!

Wonderful Stay - Perfect

5 on March 05, 2011

Kevin & Jay were so kind and they were the perfect hosts.... from evening wine to nightcap port & chocolate.... and the most delicious breakfast. We will definitely be staying here again on our next trip to the Inn at Little Washington!

A Lovely Spot Near the Mountains

4.6 on March 02, 2011

The Gay Street Inn is just a short drive from Shenandoah National Park. Our room was light, spacious, comfortable and quiet. Our hosts were affable and helpful, and the breakfast was the perfect start to a day of touring and hiking. We will definitely stay here during our next hiking/winery vacation.

Perfect Evening

5 on February 28, 2011

We stayed the night after dinner at a local restaurant. Jay and Kevin were great hosts. Everything about the experience was perfect and very affordable. Next time we are in the area we will be staying again.

Amazingly Wonderful Bed and Breakfast

5 on February 14, 2011

My husband and I stayed here and went to the Inn at Little Washington for dinner. Although dinner was fantastic, I think we enjoyed our stay at the Gay Street Inn more. Kevin, was absolutely accommodating and his breakfast was out of this world. We highly recommend the Gay Street Inn and would definitely stay here again!

Great Way To Start Retirement

4.6 on February 12, 2011

We wanted to celebrate retirement with a dinner at The Inn at Little Washington and decided to spend an evening at the Gay Street Inn. We have stayed there previously and new ownership has made wonderful improvements to the Inn. Kevin made us feel welcome and was very helpful. The breakfast was wonderful! We would definitely recommend the Gay Street Inn to our friends and will look forward to staying there again.

Wonderful get away

4.8 on January 24, 2011

We had a great dinner in the area but before dinner Kevin and Jay made us feel welcome and relaxed. We were a member of the family right away. Breakfast the next morning was wonderful.

A beautiful night in the country

4.0 on January 20, 2011

Jay and Kevin were wonderful hosts - friendly and helpful. Bedroom and bath were very comfortable. Living room was a cozy place to gather with friends before and after dinner. Especially enjoyed the wide collection of superb books and the artwork. Port and chocolates were a nice touch when we arrived back after dinner. Early coffee and warm muffins were great for those of us who rise early, with a tasty full breakfast to follow. Great value!

Great place to stay

4.0 on January 20, 2011

Two tenths mile from Inn at LW in heart of town. Comfortable, attentive service and great breakfast.

A wonderful inn

4.8 on January 11, 2011

Everything about the Gay St. Inn was great. The innkeepers, Kevin and Jay, were warm and accomodating. The inn itself was beautiful, featuring art by Kevin and a number of contemporary American artists and remarkable rugs. The decor in our room was just perfect, striking just the right balance between classic and contemporary, avoiding the precious, over-antiqued feel of many inns. And the bed was good, which is important for me, as I have a bad back. Breakfast was delicious too. All in all a wonderful experience, highly recommended.

Warm and welcoming

4.6 on December 23, 2010

The Gay Street Inn is a fantastic B&B and was the perfect backdrop to our engagement weekend. Kevin and Jay made us feel right at home and were extremely accommodating. Their hospitality, paired with a quiet and relaxing inn, went a long way to making the weekend perfect. We have already discussed a return visit.

A Nice Place to Stay!

Absolutely lovely. You couldn't be asked for a better B&B with nicest owners. Will definitely come back.

Excellent Value

4.0 on November 26, 2010

We were very pleased with the Gay Street Inn. The room was spacious and gorgeous, and the innkeepers were very attentive without being obtrusive. Extra touches like port and chocolate waiting for us in the living room in the evening put this above and beyond most B&Bs I've visited.

Friendly, quaint and cozy!

5 on November 17, 2010

This was my first stay at a B&B and I loved it! Jay and Kevin were so warm and welcoming. They went out of their way to make the stay enjoyable. The rooms were cute, the service was fantastic and the muffins the next morning were amazing. I highly recomend!

Liked it so much we stayed and extra night

4.2 on November 08, 2010

Jay and Kevin are great innkeepers and have a terrific B+B. We liked ti so much we stayed and extra day. Upon arrival we were greeted and given a tour, offered help with our luggage and a glass of wine by the fire. Later, when we returned after dinner out there was some port and chocolate by the fire available for us. Breakfast was superb and the rooms were very comfortable though I would ahve preferred a softer bed. We hope to return.

Great value in "Little" Washington

4.0 on October 31, 2010

Stayed 1 night in Bradams Ridge room which was larger than it appeared in photos. Good value compared with other Inns in this expensive town. Wine and tea were served in the afternoon and port and wrapped chocolate selection in the evening. Delicious full breakfast was served in the sunny breakfast room. Room was immaculately clean except for a little dust showing in the sunlight on one set of venetian blinds. Kevin was very helpful with information on nearby shopping, wineries, and restaurants tailored to our interests. Will stay here again on future visit to the area.

Warm and Friendly, Great Hosts

4.6 on October 27, 2010

We were late getting there, due to traffic mess, but when we got there, the host was waiting for us, and was very friendly and helpful, and help us get settled in quickly, so we could make our dinner reservation. The room was nice, clean, and comfortable. After having dinner nearby, it was fun to come back to the port and chocolates that were left waiting in the parlor. Breakfast the next morning was outstanding. The place is definitely a great value, and I would highly recommend it to anyone staying in the area.

A great anniversary weekend

5 on October 24, 2010

We stayed at the Gay Street Inn for our second anniversary and couldn't have been more thrilled. Kevin and Jay were wonderous hosts, and we felt right at home from the moment we walked in (only a better and more relaxing home). Our room was perfect, the house and property are beautiful, and Kevin and Jay made it a very special experience. From the complimentary wine on the porch to the port and chocolates put out while we were at dinner, they really thought of everything. Breakfast the next morning was also outstanding. This is truly our favorite bed and breakfast in Virginia, and we also highly recommend stopping by Kevin's art studio to admire his work.

A charming inn and innkeepers

5 on October 20, 2010

Lovely rooms and exceptional innkeepers, just what makes a great B&B.

Anniversary on Gay Street

5 on October 15, 2010

My husband and I opted to stay at the Gay Street Inn after a friend recommended it over The Inn at Little Washington. We could not have asked for a better stay for our 2nd anniversary. Kevin and Jay were so inviting and immediately made us feel comfortable. They offered us a chance to drink wine and sit on the front porch once we were settled in (we took a nap instead). Once we got back from dinner at The Inn at Little Washington (very late), Kevin and Jay had chocolate and port waiting on the table in the living room for us to enjoy. The breakfast they made was amazing, and they catered to my vegetarian lifestyle. As we were checking out, my husband and Kevin discovered how much they had in common and we ended up staying another hour just to chat. We will definitely be back!! We're even thinking of showing up after Thanksgiving just to enjoy an evening with Kevin and Jay.

Great Service

5 on October 13, 2010

Great for our first anniversary

5 on October 08, 2010

Visited the inn for a weekend 1st anniversary trip. Beautiful inn and grounds, the breakfast was prepared by the innkeepers and was amazing, room was spotless, and had everything we needed. Library was a great place to relax in the evening with some wine! We had a great time riding our tandem bike to local wineries.

Gay Street Inn my New Go-to Place

4.8 on October 07, 2010

We've stayed in Washington, VA a number of times and never found a place where we were eager to return. Now we have. The Gay Street Inn is lovely, reasonable, and conveniently located. Best of all was the way Jay and Kevin did everything to make use welcome. From the drinks when we arrived to port and chocolate at night, to the repeated reminders to ask them if we needed anything, their hospitality was top notch.

A perfect getaway

4.6 on October 04, 2010

Wonderful & welcoming! We stayed at the Gay Street Inn with our dog during our visit to nearby Shenandoah National Park. Our innkeepers were most gracious. The breakfast each day was outstanding including scones to die for & heirloom tomatoes from the inn’s garden. Maps, suggestions & directions for hiking in the park as well as other activities in the area were provided. Kevin & Jay had excellent ideas for nearby dining. We particularly liked the Griffin Tavern. At days end port & chocolates are available in the sitting area. Our room was very clean & comfortable. Knowing that we enjoyed tea, our hosts made sure we had tea supplies in our room. Kevin’s art studio is across from the Inn & we had the chance to see some of his beautiful paintings including some as part of the anniversary celebration for Shenandoah National Park. We would definitely recommend the Gay Street Inn for your stay in this area.

First anniversary at Gay Street inn

5 on September 30, 2010

Excellent time, the owners/inn keepers are amazing. Made an outstanding stuffed french toast breakfast with plenty of side dishes. The entire house was super clean, the wife could not believe it! Can't wait to stay there another time.

Attention to every detail

4.4 on September 30, 2010

Amazing how every detail was anticipated, from arrival to departure. We found the inn by chance looking for a place to stay close to a special evening dinner and may have enjoyed the inn more than the dinner. Only wish we could have stayed longer and enjoyed the countryside. Jay and Kevin were wonderful hosts. Thank you

Lovely, romantic weekend

We recently made our way to Washington to celebrate a birthday and promotion. We were delighted to be able to stay at the Gay Street Inn. We were excited about dinner reservations at the Inn at Little Washington, but not expecting to be even more impressed with the town and hospitality of Kevin and Jay. They go out of their way to make sure that your stay is unforgettable. What a lovely weekend, thank you! Oh, best coffee & leisure breakfast.

There is nothing we would have wanted to be different about our stay. We would highly recommend it!

A lovely inn with incredible hospitality and warmth

5 on August 16, 2010

This trip was our second time staying at the Gay Street Inn. Last year we stayed in the Garden Room, which was beautiful-tastefully decorated, cozy and relaxing. This year we decided to bring our dog and we were put up in the Shenandoah Suite. The suite is larger, a great value for the price, and also abounds with beauty and charm. Once again, we were well taken care of by Kevin and Jay, who offered us wine before our dinner at the Inn at Little Washington and left out port and chocolates for us upon our return from dinner. Breakfast was absolutely delicious! Banana bread, fresh seasonal melon, and wonderful pancakes with homemade cranberry maple butter and local bacon - what a perfect way to start your day! The suggestions we have been given by Kevin and Jay on which vineyards to visit have taken our particular tastes into account and have been simply wonderful! I highly recommend the Gay Street Inn for a relaxing night and scrumptious breakfast while in Washington, VA!

4.6 on May 31, 2010

We wanted a nice B&B...we were climbing Old Rag followed by dinner at The Inn at Little Washington. The location is perfect. Kevin and Jay were the perfect hosts. We loved the fact that it was a B&B, a type of hotel, but it also felt like their home. We highly recommend this B&B.

Most highly recommend the Gay Street Inn

4.8 on May 30, 2010

We loved our stay at the Gay Street Inn. The innkeepers provide the perfect level of attention. They go out of their way to make sure you have planned a day perfect for you, and also give you the privacy that you want on a quiet, weekend getaway. Their breakfast is amazing, particularly the cornbread-cranberry pancakes and delicious fruit. The room was very nice and comfortable. The home's grounds are very lovely, with a perfect porch and backyard and bocci set for entertainment. We particularly enjoyed the chocolates and port at night, and selection of VA wines in the afternoon. All around, the most perfect and delightful weekend in Little Washington.

Very comfortable stay

5 on May 20, 2010

Hospitable hosts and comfortable and elegant room. Delicious breakfast. Very quiet location, unlike the other B&Bs in town which are on the main "drag" in town. We were greeted with a glass of excellent Virginia wine, and port and chocolates were set out for us when we returned from dinner at the Inn at Little Washington. Great B&B

Quiet and Relaxing

5 on May 17, 2010

We booked on-line because we had dinner reservations at the well-known nearby Inn at Little Washington and the Gay Street Inn offered charm without the conveniently inflated prices of the other B&Bs in the area. We found the Inn and the Inn Keepers, Kevin and Jay, to be worth not only a rave review but a return visit. The Inn is clean and conducive to relaxation and even romance. Our only regret is that we had time for only a single overnight. We will definitely stay here again when we have more time.

A perfect 10th anniversary getaway

4.6 on April 30, 2010

My husband and I stayed at the Gay Street Inn for one night. It was our tenth wedding anniversary and we wanted to dine at the Inn at Little Washington, which was a short and lovely walk from the Gay Street Inn. From the moment we were greeted by our host, Kevin, to the moment we signed the guest book and left, our stay was outstanding. Kevin served us a relaxing glass of wine in the lovely back yard/garden when we first arrived and there was a bottle of port and bowl of chocolates waiting for us when we returned from dinner late that night. Breakfast was a very enjoyable event with gourmet food and coffee and tips and directions for local touring/wineries from Kevin. I can't say enough about this inn and its hosts. You will not be disappointed!!!

Gay Street Inn

My husband and I recently visited the Gay Street Inn in Washington, VA. What a wonderful weekend! We very much enjoyed the Wine Lovers Package -- it was our first time touring the wineries, so we appreciated having a driver who knew his way around. Kevin and Jay are gracious hosts and fabulous cooks. It's hard to say what we loved more about the weekend: the wine or the food! We highly recommend staying at the Gay Street Inn. And are planning when we can next return!

This B&B is a gem!

5 on November 08, 2009

This B&B is a must for a romantic get-a-way or just to relax for a day or two. The innkeepers are so personable and helpful. They made recommendations and reservations for us to some of the local attractions. There is a lot to do in this area - wine tastings at the local wineries, antique shopping, great restaurants, farmers markets, hiking, and a trip to Luray Caverns is not to far away. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and the service was attentive. We will visit this B&B again.

Very clean, quiet, and comfortable

4.8 on September 06, 2009

We stayed at the Gay Street Inn because we had a gift certificate to use at the Inn at Little Washington. Our stay was perfect in every way. This was the least expensive B&B in town (walking distance from the Inn at Little Washington), and it had everything we could have wanted: a clean room, a well furnished room, great hospitality, a gourmet breakfast, and a wonderful backyard in which we would lounge and read the paper. The owners, Kevin and Jay, were also very helpful in giving us good places to hike in the area. I highly recommend this place.

The Inn if Fabulous!

Our visit was wonderful from our arrival when Jay offerred us each a glass for wonderful wine, to the port and sweets before bed. Jay and Kevin are most hospitable as Innkeepers. Jay's breakfast the next morning topped it all off as another wonderful visit. We look forward to returning for our third visit.

We celebrated my husband's 70th birthday with a night at the Gay St. Inn and dinner at The Inn at Little Washington (within walking distance of each other). Kevin, one of the owners, greeted us and continued to meet our every need throughout our stay. Our room was lovely and the breakfast was fantastic! We loved relaxing in the lovely back yard for our before-dinner wine, and after-dinner port, as well as coffee and the paper on the front porch in the morning. We will surely return to this quiet, welcoming spot.

The Gay street Inn is small personal, quiet and located in one of the loveliest corners of Virginia.

Kevin and Jay continue to operate one of Virginia's most relaxing and well maintained inns. For the past several years my wife and I have been their frequent guests and have always found it to be one of our most remembered stays. Highly recommended!

Most Enjoyable Stay

5 on December 27, 2008

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Gay Street Inn. Our room, the Mountain View, was spacious, quiet and very comfortably furnished. Our afternoon spent reading in front of the fire in the library with a glass of local wine was most relaxing. Our hosts provided a delicious breakfast and were most hospitable. We plan to return.

Our Stay in The Blue Room

4.0 on December 15, 2008

The Gay Street Inn was the perfect complement to our 12/6/08 visit to the Inn at Little Washington. The inn's atmosphere was warm and welcoming and Jay Brown was the perfect host. It felt more like a visit to family than it was to a hostel. The room was spacious and my wife was impressed with the decor and furnishings. Breakfast was great and we don't know how they did it, but they even made it snow on the morning of our stay and our visit to the Artisan Fair. Thank you, The Chins

Wonderful Weekend

4.6 on December 09, 2008

Fantastic food and service. Really exceptional! The rooms were beautiful and clean with a great view but that's "normal" for a good B&B. This is an exceptional B&B because of the Innkeepers. They couldn't have been more gracious and friendly. We were especially impressed because the Inn was full and it was a festival weekend AND one Innkeeper was running the festival. And the food! Wow! Can't say enough about this Inn. We stay at B&B's frequently, all over the country. This is the best ever!

We will definitely be back!

perfect in every detail

This is a truly upscale inn, in a modest setting. Every detail is carefully thought out- over-sized towels, great bed, good breakfast.

Blissful Stopover

3.8 on October 28, 2008

90 minutes form home, running late for a wedding, to be able to pop in with a ready room, inviting elements, and homey warmth was just what we needed. We even left the reception early to get back to enjoy some chocolates before returning for the night.

The Gay Street Inn is a wonderful getaway. The food was elegantly prepared, the rooms spacious, immaculate and beautifully decorated. The fire in the library welcomed us home at night. The owners are exceedingly helpful and polite, and we loved our stay!!

We'll be back!

5 on August 28, 2008

It was our first visit and we were really happy with the experience! It was so peaceful and relaxing, and both Jay and Kevin were wonderful, gracious, delightful hosts. The property is a short walk from the Inn at Little Washington, and has a glorious view of the mountains. It's nestled at the end of the street, so it's miraculously quiet. The home is clean, the linens smell great, and the bed was really comfortable. The towels were real towels -- soft, fluffy, and fabulous. Jay's fabulous stuffed french toast and Kevin's artwork completed the wonderful experience.

Charming and Gracious

4.6 on August 18, 2008

We had a wonderful time and both Kevin and Jay could not have been more gracious and helpful. The room was nicely appointed with a beautiful view of the mountains. The front porch is also very inviting and I had the pleasure of finding T.S. Eliot's "Book of Practical Cats" in the library and introducing the Jellicles, Jennyanydots and Bustopher Jones to my sweetie after a lovely dinner at The Inn at Little Washington. We hope to revisit the inn in the near future.

Outstanding

Celebrated our engagement with overnight at the Gay Street Inn and dinner at Inn at Little Washington. Jay and Kevin were the perfect hosts and excited for us as though we were family. Rooms were clean and homey. Port and chocolates in the evening a nice touch. Breakfast the next morning delicious in a sunny and cheerful room.

We came to celebrate an uncle’s 90th birthday and we all loved this beautiful B&B. After dinner with all the cousins, the eight of us had port by the fireplace. Charming! Delicious breakfasts too.

Just what we were looking for!

5 on March 04, 2008

A short walk from the Inn at Little Washington, this is an excellent B&B for a weekend away. Jay and Kevin were very accommodating, and even offered us a glass of wine (actually very good Virginia wine!) when we arrived. The full breakfast and coffee were both very good, although ideally we'd prefer it was offered a little later on the weekend (full breakfast served 8:30-9:30). Fortunately, they do offer a continental breakfast until 10:30, so we really can't complain. The decor is very welcoming with a warm fire and lots of original art (much of it Kevin's). We stayed in the Garden room and were very pleased. We would highly recommend!

Felt so Comfortable

5 on January 24, 2008

Quiet nights sleep in a very accomdating B&B. I like that the innkeepers were not intrusive. Enjoyed Kevin Adams' art studies and visiting with him.
