True Paradise!

5 on July 19, 2014

John and Diane have made the Foster Harris House an escape to paradise. Their attention to detail is impressive. We felt pampered and wished we had booked a second night in our luxurious mountain view room. The sheets and towels were so soft and smelled great and the rain shower had 4 jets that felt like a spa treatment. The gourmet breakfast was amazing and each of the three courses looked like works of art and was delicious. We will definitely be back and look forward to experiencing dinner as well next time.

First Class Operation!

Our third stay at the Foster Harris House, and each one seems to get better than the one before, even though we could not imagine anything better.

Wonderful time !!

Owners Diane and John were more than accommodating! The breakfast enjoyed outdoors by choice on a lovely late August morning was a visual and culinary delight! Our room was clean and cozy with a large rain shower and quality linens. The front porch was the perfect place to enjoy the delicious port offered to guests. We recommend this B&B if you plan a trip to the NOVA wineries with so many in close proximity.

Wonderful all around.

FHH was a great experience. I found it through this site, based on the walkability to Inn at Little Wash. The owners are spectacular hosts and went above and beyond to make our stay as perfect as possible. I would recommend FHH to anyone, based upon the level of service, the quality of the breakfast, and the beauty of the home.

What a find!

We had stayed at another B&B several years ago but it was being renovated, so we stayed at the Foster Harris House. So very glad we did. The room was thoughtfully appointed, and the bathroom was clean and bright. The common areas were all lovely. The breakfast was outstanding, and Diane and John are perfect hosts.

A Birthday Escape

Absolutely every detail for comfort is considered. The welcoming fire, the glass of wine upon arrival, the fashion emergency kit, the rain fall shower, the wonderful smelling bathroom amenities and finally the amazing four-course breakfast to send us on our way. We will definitely return!

After one night in the suite here, I thought about selling everything I owned and moving in. I am still thinking about it. John and Diane are lovely, friendly and welcoming folks who truly make you feel at home. If your home was a lovely country manor with a beautiful view out the window, overlooking a well maintained garden and rolling hill, followed by an amazing 5 star 4 course breakfast. Stella the dog was an added draw. This place is lovely, so well maintained, the pride of the owners really shows, it is the closest thing to paradise I have found within hours of DC. I plan to go back here time and time again, this is by far the nicest B & B I have ever been to.

Must Do for B & B lovers

We love the Foster Harris House! We have been coming here every year at Thanksgiving for the past 5 years just in order to receive the "royal treatment". Although the food, the hospitality and idyllic location alone make the Foster Harris House a must do on the B&B enthusiasts' list, John and Diane MacPherson make the extra effort to ensure that their guests feel 'at home' in their home. And yet, they seem to do it effortlessly. We always feel completely welcomed and know that our time here will be thoroughly enjoyable. What a treat to get away from life's general mayhem and, at least for a day or two, be spoiled rotten!¿David and Richard

The Foster Harris House was lovely, clean, perfectly situated in the town. the owners, John and Diane were friendly and offered more amenities than we thought. The 4-course breakfast was enough to make you return to the inn. We will be back!

Wedding Anniversary

4.6 on October 15, 2009

My husband and I celebrated our 44th Wedding Anniversary were extremely pleased with the warmth and welcoming we received from Diane and John. Our two evening stay was just what we had hoped for. We enjoyed all the amenities including a bicycle ride and walks on the Blue Ridge. We were close to fine dining which we thoroughly enjoyed. Our guest rooms and breakfast were a wonderful treat and we'll return.

a treasure in Washington

My husband and I planned a long weekend in Washington, mostly for the great biking, Civil War battlesites and a special meal at the Inn at Little Washington. Little did we realize that our stay at The Foster Harris House would be another highlight on the trip and not simply a place to sleep. The innkeepers, Diane and John, were outstanding host, tending to our every need. The place is spotless, good beds and the bathroom has a really cool rainfall shower. The breakfast served at the inn are absolutely delicious. Go here if you want a special weekend.

Warmth and Comfort

4.8 on July 12, 2008

Our stay at Foster Harris House initiated us to the Bed and Breakfast theme in a way that will be difficult to improve on. The house is tranquil, beautiful, and poetic both inside and out. John and Diane helped us feel at home and comfortable with the other guests. John was able to produce a wonderfully chilled Riesling within minutes of our request at arrival. He also maintains an open bottle of delicious 2001 Dow Port with glasses on a silver serving tray for guest to self-serve as they lounge in the comfortable living room. The room leant itself well to sipping port in the evening and then to reading with other guests the next morning while waiting for breakfast to be served. One could easily daydream about the pleasanter aspects of colonial living. Our recently redecorated bed and bathroom in the Compton room were more comfortable and relaxing than those found in the best of hotels. Service was unobtrusive yet complete. I had forgotten dress socks, I rang the bell, and Diane produced a pair to match my suit within a minute. The breakfast was a series of wonderfully understated yet filling dishes beginning with a perfectly cooked scone to Lilliputian style pancakes. The other guests at the table were friendly and interesting. We were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary, and another couple became engaged on a bike ride that morning, but all of the couples there were having a wonderful time in this truly romantic setting. We are glad to have another excellent reason to visit Washington, VA in addition to the Inn at Little Washington dining experience. We hope to be back by our 25th, if not sooner!

Excellent rooms, service and food!

My wife and I went to the Inn at Little Washington for a romantic weekend dinner, and stayed at the Foster Harris House for one night. We chose it because we realized we could save significant $$ on the lodging costs over the Inn, but were rewarded with fantastic service, a quaint and beautiful house and room, and a delicious breakfast. I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone looking to get away for a long weekend, visit the mountains and wineries nearby, or to visit the Inn.
