Inn Details
Experience the romance of a country house weekend (or week). This country house is a meticulously restored federal manor house overlooking 100 acres of rolling meadows dotted with Holstein cattle. Originally built in 1785,Vaucluse was named after the French country retreat of Petrarch, the great poet of courtly love. House guests may also stay in an 1850's walnut log home or three guest cottages: one formerly a small art gallery; the other, an artist's studio built on the site of a former gristmillor a converted tobacco barn. All are in a village-like setting surrounding Vaucluse Spring, an artesian aquifer that sends a million and a half gallons of water each day through the old millrace. Enjoy the beautiful countryside that inspired the works of John Chumley, the former owner of Vaucluse whose realist paintings are much loved by celebrities, diplomats and local residents as well. It's the perfect country retreat in any season.
