Groupon offer was great (2 nights with 1 dinner and wine). Very quiet and we could not hear the peacock at all. Breakfast was great, restaurant standard rather than usual B&B greasy dishes but there was no option to choose what you want and portions were a bit small for my husband (perfect size for me though). Grilled grapefruit was amazing. There were various types of tea bags, hot/ice water, coffee and biscuits available in the sitting room so you can help yourselves. Nancy was a lovely host but we only saw her at check in, breakfast, dinner and check out. We had a lovely talk about the history of this 200 years old house! We stayed in Robin's nest and it is very lovely decorated. The bed was comfy. I would love to try the separate cottage room next time when we visit again. The only thing I would mention is that I was looking for the hair dryer on the first night (I have very long hair and cannot sleep with damp hair) but couldn't find it (my fault - silly me who didn't look closely in the wardrobe!). So, I was trying to look for help and I rang the very loud bell (told by Nancy that this is the way to get her daughter's attention) at around 9:30pm but no one appeared. My husband eventually found the dryer and I was glad that I didn't wake anyone up...However, please bear this in mind and make sure you ask for things/questions during check in as you may not see anyone else until the next morning during breakfast.

It was a lovely stay and the innkeeper's knowledge of where to go, what to see and where to eat was incredibly helpful for us!

We chose this B & B as a destination based on it's ranking in the top 10 vineyard inns in the world. While it is a very nice B & B and deserves the ratings it has received, it is not a destination and did not belong on this list! It's just an old farmhouse up a lane on the edge of a small town without much cause for tourists to be there. We never saw a vineyard on the property. Just a few grape vines. The grounds were not well kept at the time we visited, but perhaps that was unusual. We fully agree with comments about the cleanliness, friendliness and good food. The beds were also awesome. But we were expecting a destination, and this wasn't it. Having stayed at the Chateau Chantal in Traverse City, MI two weeks previous, a true vineyard inn destination, this was a disappointment.
Ah, yes - Chateau Chantal is beautiful! The difference (other than of course the amazing views at Chantal!) is that we are a vineyard, NOT a winery. We often have guests expecting 'more', assuming that vineyard means we also produce wines onsite, which we definitely do not. Our 600 vine, 2-acre Pinot Noir vineyard (hard to miss - though maybe you stayed in the Cottage, and might have only noticed our 6 vine planting of table grapes, which grow on the drive you were on the most) is maintained by Gabrielle Rausse, and when it's a year good enough - he makes a lovely, light Pinot Noir under his label with our vineyard named. We aren't a restaurant, or tasting room - just as this guest said, a farmhouse at the top of a pretty hill, in a very small town. Our destination status has much more to do with the general area in which we are located - the Monticello Appellation in Central Virginia with more than 30 nearby wineries, than with our own inn...though we hope that our guests will seek us out to return to! The state of Virginia thought enough of our 'old farmhouse' to list it as a Virginia Landmark, and we are on the National Register of Historic Places...so there is definitely something to see. Our listing on the "Top 10" was quite a compliment, and though we also have no idea how we ended up there, it was a sweet compliment, and we are proud that we were listed. Sorry to disappoint - we hope that you enjoyed your Charlottesville visit, and had an opportunity to visit some of the beautiful wineries - none of which have inns save a brand new one, to sample some of our delicious Virginia wines!

My beau and I stayed here for one night while visiting friends in Charlottesville. We were close enough to C'ville to see our friends, but far enough to feel far away. I absolutely love the claw foot tub in the room. The first thing we did was take a soak on arrival because we hadn't floated 4 miles down the James beforehand. If in the area and willing to wake up for a great meal by all means stay here.
5 on August 07, 2013
We love High Meadows! We don't want to stay anywhere else on our Charlottesville trips! It is close enough to everything (downtown Charlottesville, wineries, restaurants) yet secluded and quiet. The service is superb and we feel like family now (after 5 stays). In fact we brought The food is excellent--breakfast feels like a treat and we can hardly wait for our morning decadence. The rooms are excellent although the attic room does get warm in the summer. We have stayed in several different rooms and love them all although the Cottage Suite is probably my favorite (really you can't go wrong with any of them). The innkeepers know so much history and go out of their way to make connections to ensure you get to do exactly what you want and get the experience you are looking for. This time we ventured into Scottesville and the brewery there along with the Italian restaurant were excellent and should not be missed. We cannot wait to come back!!!!!!
Thank you so much for the kind words - guests are such a treasure of new possible friendships, we love it when someone can return and feel like this is home-away-from-home. It's also fun to share the changes and improvements along the journey of caring for an antique house...I'll be glad when one of those improvements is a consistant temperature in the Attic Suite!

The Hostess Nancy was extremely nice and professional, made us feel very welcomed ( we are a minority couple). Someone told us about High Meadow as a last resort, otherwise we would have had to stay in Charlottesville. I am happy that things turned out the way that they did, it was very peaceful and relaxing experience. Nancy's no hats in the dining room policy was very refreshing!
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay! It is always a delight to meet people from different ethnic or cultural backgrounds...if we didn't welcome everyone (aside from that making us not very nice people), we wouldn't have had the pleasure of making so many new friends. We have had conversation around the breakfast table with a rocket scientist that worked on the Hubble telescope, a descendant of 'The Butler', and people with far more travel experiences to share than we do, and who speak many more languages. We wouldn't have it any other way, and we are glad you felt at home!

My wife and I have stayed here on several occassions, over the past 2 years, the most recent being last weekend for our 1-year wedding anniversary. I can't say enough positive things about High Meadows..it's always an amazing stay because of the accomodations, food, where the property is located, and most importantly the "personable service"...we are always made to feel like it's home; and of course there's Henry, the peacock. My suggestion is you gotta' go experience the comfort, solitude and history of High Meadows. You won't regret it!

Our third time and as always, our stay at High Meadows was exquisite. Nancy is always so very friendly, helpful, and simply a joy with which to chat. Cynthia never fails to amaze with her delectable breakfasts, and as it was our anniversary this time, we sprung for dinner and Cynthia exceeded our greatest expectations. What a fabulous chef! The grounds are immaculately kept and gorgeous. The gazebo is the perfect place to while away a rainy afternoon reading or to sip some vino in the evenings. The rooms beautiful and the beds extremely comfortable. And if all that isn’t enough, let’s not forget Henry, the very handsome peacock. Every stay at High Meadows is an absolute delight!

My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary and selected High Meadows through a Groupon.com offer. We lucked out as well with wonderful weather the weekend we stayed and thoroughly enjoyed visting local historic sites and taking in a couple of the local wineries. Overall, the stay was relaxing and just what we both needed. Breakfast and dinner were delicious, service was great, and the inn's atmosphere was charming. Looking forward to returning!!!
We have so enjoyed our Groupon experiences! The guests have been fun, and we have gotten some great stories and new ideas for places to visit! We have made some Groupon and Living Social purchases ourselves, and as long as you read the fine print - the experience can be a real treat. Returning guests are always offered an incentive to reture, so just be sure to tell us you stayed here before when you make your next reservation - you don't have to wait for another Groupon feature for an enjoyable, affordable stay!

My fiancee and I loved staying here. It is the perfect place for those who want to take a break from the break-neck pace of the modern world. The food was great, the location was perfect, the amenities were spot on and the charm was unmatched. We spent our time hopping from vineyard to vineyard tasting wine and eating until we could eat no more, which was easy considering the fact that there were a plethora of vineyards and wineries to choose from within a 10 mile radius of this B&B. Charlottesville is close enough to easily get to and the drive was beautiful to boot, so if you feel like enjoying some night life, you can do that too. All in all, I couldn't ask for a better place to stay and we will return here as soon as we can!

My husband and I stayed with Nancy and her daughter at High Meadows for a wonderful long weekend. We were in the Peony room and had a comfortable bed and warm, welcoming room (which was a lovely contrast to the end of February chill outside!). I highly recommend having dinner with them during your stay--breakfast was excellent, dinner was even better, and they were perfectly happy with us bringing our own wine from one of the local vineyards. Nancy was helpful with planning our day trips and the house and property are lovely without being too cute or precious. Its a short drive to Charlottesville and the surrounding wineries. We can't wait to come back in the spring when everything is green and growing!

I was looking for a quaint getaway retreat for my husband's birthday. I discovered this gem thru groupon & definitely was very surprised! The house is old but exquisitely decorated & charming. Nancy warmly greeted us & was great at making sure our needs & interests were met. This place is conveniently located outside of Charlottesville, so winery's are all around! We had a wonderful time & HIGHLY recommend this B&B. the food, inn, & friendships we found will not be forgotten! Thank you Nancy, Ryan & Cynthia for making my husbands birthday a memorable one! Love, Billie & Bert

Surprise Birthday present for my husband. The home was what I expected, but I had very high expectations, so no complaints. The location was a ittle furtherout of Charlosttesville than I'd originally wanted, but the trade off of peace with a little village within walking distance as well as proximity to vineyards was worth it. Design of this home is really fantastic, they did a great job of making each room visually exciting. The little town didn't have a lot to offer in terms of shops, but three nice restaurants for afternoon/evening dining were surprisingly very good. Best part was the staff...this family feels like family, I would definitely recommend and return.

My husband and I stayed in the Cottage Room Nov 30-Dec 2 and had a great time. The location is very close to Monticello and tons of wineries and breweries. It was very quiet and relaxing and we received a lot of good information from the innkeepers. We opted to do the private dinner on Friday night and it was just amazing! The breakfasts were also spectacular.

Great couple's get-away or girls' weekend away spot. The B&B is clean and beautiful. The proprietors are friendly, knowledgable about the area, and respectful of your privacy. The grounds are gorgeous, the food is delicious, and the location is just out-of-the-way enough that you feel like you are getting away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. I highly recommend High Meadows!

I stayed at the Inn for two days as a personal retreat. It was simply lovely. First, the hostesses were just wonderful. They were warm, inviting, gracious and knowledgeable about the area. The breakfasts were great – fresh and delicious. My cottage room was large and lovely. A perfect place to read and rest. I met a wonderful couple who delighted me. I enjoyed an evening of sitting on the porch with other guests , playing words with friends while sipping tea and eating the special treats that the hostesses left out. The inn is easily located on RT 20 which made and it easy for a city “girl” likes me to get to wineries, Monticello and Charlottesville and see the stunning scenery along the way . Two friends had previously been at the inn and recommended it – and now I add my resounding cheer to the group. Lovely place.

We stayed at High Meadows Vineyard in for two nights. This is a wonderful bed and breakfast with a great deal of very interesting history. Historians would really enjoy a stay at this B & B. Scottsville is also a very pleasant little town with a couple of great places to dine. We hit many of the wineries which surround High Meadows Vineyard Inn.

This was our first time at a bed and breakfast and, my being a person who does not make a habit of staying in other people's homes, I was not sure what to expect. We found High Meadows to be a clean, well kept B&B, though the grounds were still recovering from the derecho that had caused extensive damage throughout the mid-Atlantic a few weeks ago. The owner was welcoming, polite, and shared extensive knowledge of the surrounding areas. She was patient with questions and thorough with descriptions of sites and activities available. Our room was comfortable, and the fact that we had a private shower in the bathroom was a plus, considering our traveling companions had a bathtub in their bedroom with no acceptable shower capability. The breakfasts were outstanding, incorporating fresh fruit into each of the breakfasts - a frittata one morning and crepes with a fresh peach sauce the following morning. As stated above, I had no idea what to expect at a B&B, so the next two points may be petty. After returning from our day touring wineries in the area, we returned from the 100 degree heat of the day hoping to find a nice pitcher of lemonade or iced tea, but were very disappointed to find none. Also, wifi service was supposed to be available throughout the grounds, but I was only able to access my IPad or IPhone from one specific corner of the house. When available, wifi was spotty at best. All in all, the three day, two night stay at High Meadows was a pleasant, relaxing getaway.

My husband and I throughly enjoyed our stay at High Meadows. We loved the Cottage room, both the fun and harmonious use of color and the fact that being in the Cottage afforded us a bit more privacy. We highly recommend the cheese tray, it was the most delicious food we had there, beautifully presented and prefect after our drive there the first night. Breakfast outside on the patio was delightful both mornings and Nancy was great about giving suggestions for winnerys to visit. My husband is an artist so we LOVED, the bold use of color in decorating inside and out!

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at High Meadows last September, and we absolutely loved it. This was our first time staying at a bed and breakfast, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. We ended up loving everything about it--the service and friendliness was outstanding and you really feel welcome. We stayed in the Dogwood room, which was perfect. It was large and private, and the decor was lovely. We did get to see some of the other rooms while we were there, and the looked just as nice! The breakfast was incredible--probably the best I have ever had (breakfast foods are my favorite, so that says a lot). We also were staying there through a Groupon, and the deal included a winery tour and a picnic lunch provided by the inn. In that lunch, there was a quinoa salad that I really enjoyed. As far as location, it was great. We were able to go to about 7 wineries over the course of the day, and easily go into Charlottesville for dinner at night. I cannot remember if it was Nancy or Cynthia who we talked to most, but she was SO helpful at giving us directions, suggesting where to start with our wine tour, and suggesting places in Charlottesville to eat dinner. She also was just so nice, and we enjoyed having conversations with her. I highly recommend High Meadows to anyone who wants to stay at a bed and breakfast in this area. It was a great all-around experience, and we hope to be back in the future!

We took advantage of a special they were promoting and had a lovely time. Nancy was a gracious host, taking the time to sit down with us and provide advice and guidance on our winery tour. The Cottage Suite was spacious, colorful and comfortable. We ate a delicious takeout meal from Amici's (downtown Scottsville) in the kitchen area. Breakfasts were wonderful. Coffee was available in the sitting area prior to being seated. They started with delicious fruit dishes and ended with satisfying entrees. I highly recommend this B&B for guests who are interested in a relaxing getaway. And, the area is loaded with wineries, with Charlottesville not that far away.

I stayed at High meadows Inn in 2008 and absolutely had a perfect time. We just had my daughter's wedding at the Inn, and the family stayed at the Inn. Cynthia & Nancy are perfect hostesses. They work hard but love what they do. They are the best B & B I've ever stayed at. I highly recommend. If I could give 10 stars, I would.

My wife and I searched high and low for a bed and breakfast for our first Anniversary that offered easy access to the Monticello wine trail and a relaxed countryside setting. We couldn't have been more pleased with our three night experience at High Meadows. Nancy provided us with an exceptional level of service and guidance for the surrounding area including restaurants and wineries (complete with tasting coupons). She has a magnetic and trustworthy personality that truly made us feel like we were at home and enabled us to fully relax knowing we were in good hands. The breakfast was wonderful, the bed incredibly comfortable (we stayed in the Cottage Room), and departed trying to figure out how soon we'd be able to return. I couldnt recommend High Meadows more highly based on our experience and we will always look back on our first anniversary fondly thanks in part to Nancy's hospitality.

A great weekend trip from DC - the beds were so comfortable we could have stayed in bed all day and been satisfied. Very uniquely decorated and beautiful. Not much to do in town and didn't have great restaurant experiences in Scottsville but Charlottesville is a half hour away and the B&B is surrounded by vineyards and history.

We stayed in the cottage. Very nice, but a little musty smell. I'm sure it's hard to keep the mold completely out. Would have liked thicker curtains to keep the light out since the sun rises so early in mid-June. The breakfast was outstanding: can't beat fresh layed eggs! The hostess was very nice and we would completely recommend this place to others. Quaint little town with 3 restaurants.

High Meadows is exactly what a B&B should be...peaceful, scenic, and relaxing. The peacock adds a quirkiness and interest that you won't find at your average B&B. Breakfast is a highlight. Using ingredients from the grounds enhances the experience. Nancy is a gracious and delightful host. I look forward to our next visit.

My wife and I stayed here last weekend for 3 nights and we had a great time. Nancy, the hostess is a lot of fun. Her daughter Cynthia, (I believe that's her name) provides excellent food for all of the breakfasts as well. We even got to chat with Francis a little bit and he gave us great advice on restaurants in the area. The B&B itself consists of a big, historic house on top of a little hill. It has its own vineyard, gardens and even a pond, all of which you can stroll around. There's a peacock patrolling the premises too! While we were there we met a couple that was back for their 3rd time. I think that speaks to the quality that you can expect at this B&B. We'll be back for sure!

High Meadows Vineyard is a wonderful place to stay while you tour wineries in the Charlottesville area. My finance and I recently used a Living Social deal for a quick mid-week getaway and absolutely loved our stay. We stayed in the cottage and absolutely loved our room. Our two night stay was very enjoyable. The room was delightfully eclectic with a very comfortable four poster bed although the pillows were a tad bit lumpy, but that is the only thing I would change. The setting was lovely, all the chickens, the peacock, and resident cats, what a delight...just beautiful. What can be said of the breakfast except that both mornings were just delicious. Compliments to the chef! We are very early risers and waiting til nine for breakfast was hard, especially since after the first morning we knew how tasty it would be...but we had a lovely time sitting outside under the gazebo talking to the chickens and petting the cat, patiently awaiting our goument's delight breakfast. Next time I will bring a few snacks to keep the growling tummy at bay til breakfast! We did enjoy our visit very much. What a lovely house, lovely hosts and lovely countryside to explore. My husband and I stayed in the Willow room this past week and loved it! The house is so pretty/funky and close to wineries and downtown Charlottesville. The breakfast was really good! Especially the baked grapefruit. And the house has so many nice touches. Loved the big king bed and comfy bedding. We stocked up on tons of wine, mead, cider, and beer and Nancy gave us coupons for half of those places so the tastings were free! We can't wait to go back.

The inn is a bit quirky and eclectic, but in a good way; it's not one of those over-decorated B&Bs that takes itself too seriously. My bed was comfortable, and the room was light and airy. Not sure if the fireplace works since it was pretty warm when we visited. Our hosts were very accommodating with our late arrival and it wasn't an issue at all. breakfast isn't ungody early, and everything was very delicious. We loved interacting with the cats, chickens, and peacock on the grounds as well as chatting with the other guests over breakfast.. So luxurious I didnt want to go home!

We spent 2 days at The High Meadows, and it was exquisite! Nancy was one of the most personable people I've met in a long long time. She was a wealth of information on the local area, and the history of the house. The meals were very good, with a majority if not all of the food coming from local sources. The room was perfect, and the bed? Wow. I could have slept forever! My husband and I recently had the good fortune to stay at High Meadows for two nights. It was a Groupon that led us to the Inn, which was a great offer (value). Because the Inn's website has so many pictures, I got a distinct sense of what to expect. I chose this Inn because the fresh wall colors mixed with antiques and contemporary flair. Everything about it was completely charming. Innkeeper/Hostess, Nancy, was a delight, like staying with a very hip grandma! Our room was spacious, with plenty of storage, excellent mattress, and high quality bedding. The many windows (while able to be made private) opened onto a lovely view of the Inn's country setting. The Inn is filled with great books and a scrapbook history of its renovation which I poured over. We walked down a hedged country lane under a full moon and visited the chickens in the morning. The food was superb--country bacon and french toast w/ poached grapefruit one morning; ham and egg frittata the next w/ fresh fruit and banana bread the other. Dinner was salmon with collards (it could have used a side of risotto or something.) If I have any gripes it's that when I called to reserve I double-checked that the fireplaces would be fixed before my arrival and was assured they would be — but they weren't. That was kind of a bummer. The house also occasionally smelled like cabbage which isn't inherently bad, but I did wonder about it. And one day the coffee was a flavored coffee and I just like a regular ‘cuppa Joe. But those complaints were minor in comparison to the beauty and hospitality, as well as its proximity to places I wanted to visit (Barboursville Winery, Madison's Montpelier, Scottsville's outdoor canal museum, Charlottesville's shopping and history, etc.) I would go back in a heartbeat, in part to get to try the other pretty rooms. --Lindsay Curren

Beautiful B&B! The hostess was so wonderful - gave us information on wineries to visit, things to do around town. Amazing food! Wonderful weekend getaway.

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend away from home and loved it. It is a great inn, has awesome food, and a very friendly staff. I have alredy recommended it to my co-workers. We stayed in the cottage which has 2 rooms in it. The room was well decorated, the right size, and clean. The only sad part was the fireplaces were out of commission due to the earthquakes. The food (wine and cheese plate and breakfasts) was great. The eggs are from the chickens on propertyand are delicious. We enjoyed the area and the nice quiet break from the I-95 corridor! We'll be back.

We couldn't have had a nicer time at High Meadows. The staff were unflaggingly friendly, helpful, and attentive to our every need, without impinging on our privacy. Our room was comfortable, charming, and pleasantly decorated, with plenty of thoughtful amenities to make up for the house's limitations on modern conveniences. We loved the chickens, peacocks, and cats roaming the grounds, and the beautiful landscaping. And the meals were really delicious and well-made. We were lucky enough to snag a Groupon deal for our weekend, which made our stay an outstanding value for the money.

My wife and I along with another couple recently stayed at High meadows for 2 nights. We did our own vinyard and brewery tour in this beautiful part of VA. High Meadows is a nice setting with a small vinyard (pinot noir) on the property. Some nice grounds to walk around. We made new friends with the two outdoor cats, a peacock, and some pretty cool chickens. The place is quite old and unique. Rooms were very clean and nicely decorated. Our bed was comfortable and the place was nice and warm. Breakfast was wonderful both days. We also got a cheese platter on our first night that was nice. The wine, different cheeses, and fruit were a nice mix. The manager Nancy was very nice and full of info about the area and the historic property. I have stayed at many B&B's and not all of them can pull off making you feel "at home" comfortable like High Meadows did. Great place! Highly recommend staying there. Also, Scottsville had a couple of decent restaurants/bars just down the street from High Meadows!

We found High Meadows Vineyard Inn through Groupon, and it far exceeded our expectations. Nancy greeted us when we arrived and was very friendly and informative about the area. Breakfast was DELICIOUS and filling both mornings -- neither were dishes I would order, but I was pleasantly surprised and more than satisfied. We stayed in Robin's Nest and found it very comfortable and cozy. We woke up one morning and took a nice stroll around the grounds, which include a small vineyard. If you like animals, there were a few friendly cats, a peacock, and some chickens and roosters. I even saw a few deer. We visited some wineries, and if you want to save a few dollars, Nancy has vouchers from several of the surrounding wineries. If you want a true B&B experience, I highly recommend High Meadows Vineyard Inn.

We came here as a couple and had a relaxing romantic weekend away from the insanity of DC. We've been to a number of B&Bs, and I would say that High Meadows ranks the highest on decor. Our room, the Robin's Nest, looked like it came out of a design magazine. It had the classic feel that you want out of a country B&B but with contemporary details (you won't feel like you're staying at grandma's!). Another highlight was the free wine tasting coupons offered exclusively by the B&B. We loved watching the peacock strut about the property. The breakfast left a little something to be desired (not the stuffed-until-dinner farm breakfast you get at some B&Bs), but we loved that the eggs came straight from the on-site henhouse. We would definitely recommend High Meadows!

This B&B is amazing. The folks here are some of the friendliest people you could hope to meet and count among your friends or even acquaintances. You are given a great opportunity to meet new people and relax in an environment that requires nothing but you commit to relaxing. The rooms are comfortably and decorated with care and attention to detail. The food was very good and very much the surprise of the stay. It is simple food and hearty without being unhealthy. Bonus: There is a Peacock on the property that wanders around and is quite fascinating to watch how it interacts with the cat. If you have an opportunity to visit, stay at least two days and hit the wineries. Enjoy some time away from life....the cottage suite with kitchen was quite convenient and there wine and cheese plate are worth a go if that is your thing. Will be going back soon!

We really enjoyed our stay at High Meadows Vineyard Inn. The inn has so much character and the service was wonderful. From the moment we walked in we were given dining recommendations and suggestions on sites to see during our stay. We were given discount coupons to visit the surrounding wineries and directions on how to get there. The breakfast both mornings was absolutely FABULOUS. Not your typical continental breakfast by a long shot. Individually prepared - gourmet meals. Mine was prepared gluten free which was very appreciated and tasted delicious! We would highly recommend High Meadows and would definitely return in the spring or summer.

High Meadows Inn is a perfect place for a getaway. We stayed in the Cottage Suite with a peaceful view of the woods and a small kitchen to make tea and keep some refrigerated items. The grounds are in a country setting with a very pleasant path through the woods to a small pond. All the rooms are wonderfully decorated. Nancy and her daughter Cynthia are exceptional hosts--warm, friendly and fully of helpful tips on things to do in the area. Breakfasts were full of homemade goodness. Will definitely go back. You can't help but have a restful and very enjoyable time here.

High Meadows Inn was the perfect weekend getaway, filled with bright rooms and quirky character. Nancy was very hospitable and provided great information on deals at nearby vineyards and local sights. The beautiful peacock, friendly cats and numerous chickens add a country charm to the place. The food was amazing, from delicious fritatas for breakfast to scrumptiously filled ravioli for dinner, topped with a creamy fruit pasty for dessert. The beds are extremely comfortable (and big) with a sea of pillows you can drown in!

In as much as this was a first experience for me I was not sure what to expect. I was very much impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the breakfast menus! They were well informed of places to go, things to do and best of all, directed us to a wonderful dinner at the C & O restaurant located in nearby Charlottesville, Va. I'm already planning my next years visit!

Although the proprietor wasn't very happy about us coming early, we needed to use the restroom and left promptly, not returning until the check-in time. At that time she was very warm and welcoming, as she was in the morning at breakfast. The breakfasts were wonderful, the two restaurants in town were not elegant but were convenient. The location was fairly central once we found the right roads. The GPS didn't always take the best ones. The cheese platter was very nice as was the bottle of wine on the first night. We took that option since I asked what was on the country dinner menu and was told that they didn't serve dinner. Communications was an issue as the coupon said to call and when I called for a reservation, I was told to go to the website and do it that way. They wouldn't take the reservation over the phone. It was a relaxing, fun way to do the wineries. We'd go again with another coupon.

My husband and I stayed at the inn last week. We we late arriving and had no problem checking in. A delicious wine and cheese tray was served as we relaxed in the room. The bed was very comfortable but the doors to the room and bath were difficult to close (Age of the place). The innkeeper served a delicious breakfast and helped to arrange a tour of the local wineries. A good time was had by all.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at High Meadows Inn. We arrived about four on Friday afternoon and walked the grounds before dinner. Breakfasts were excellent, and we enjoyed visiting with the other guests. We stayed in the Daffodil room. The mattress needs replacing (slumps to a V in the middle, and I found myself clinging to the edge trying to avoid rolling), but otherwise we enjoyed the room.
We so appreciate feedback from our guests! The Daffodil now has a lovely new mattress - and a rave review from the first guests to try it out! Thank-you again for your honest and helpful feedback.

We spent a very restful weekend at High Meadows . We liked the welcoming and the family-like environment. The setting is perfect for a romantic or reconnecting weekend. It can also suit someone who needs a quiet and a recovery getaway. The cook pays attention to the details of a healthy eating. The manager (Nancy) is caring and very attentive to the needs of her clients. This is really a good hideout for a romantic getaway with outstanding service.

We enjoyed our stay at High Meadows Vineyard Inn. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays and the room was very comfortable. I would suggest, though, that the inn only include information about a fireplace in the room if it is a working fireplace. We were expecting to enjoy the fireplace based on the room description, but could not.
We are so sorry about the fireplaces this season! They are currently out of service until they get a clean bill of health after repairs from the late summer earthquake! We did not notice damage until the first fire was lit in November - and with 4 chimneys and 7 fireplaces, it is taking a little longer than anticipated to restore them.

High Meadows Vineyard Inn is a wonderful place. It's conveniently located in the heart of Virginia wine country, and close to so many historical places to visit. We will definitely stay here again when we come back to this area.

We stayed at this inn over a weekend in December because the inn had to cancel our stay in the summer--it was worth the wait! The service was very good, the bed comfortable, the rooms roomy and the whole house was nicely decorated for Christmas! The room that we stayed in had an added jacuzi with a toiletroom with a sink in one corner. The toilet room was small but cute. The meal we had on Saturday evening was to die for! The waiter kept the wine coming. Although it wasn't cheap, it was well worth the price. I may have high expectations when I pay these prices, but staying at a B&B is much more relaxing than a hotel! Enjoyed it!

3 couples from Richmond spent 2 nights at High Meadows. We had a great time. Nancy was terrific. We enjoyed the exceptional and unique food, her recommendations for dinner, the reading material in the common area, and the conversations with her. She's so warm, friendly, and 'open.'

We used the inn as our base for wine tasting and it was a perfect weekend. The rooms were nice, the bed was extremely comfortable and the service was excellent. Nancy is very friendly and more than willing to help with any questions you might have. The food was delicious as well. If you are staying in the main house you will be able to hear people speaking in the hallways, but it was easy enough to tune out.

Lovely place, Beautifully decorated without going over the top. Very comfortable room. The small downside was that the bed was really high and we had to ask for a step stool to get in bed! We are an older couple so it was difficult! Once in bed though it was very comfortable with luxurious linens and a cozy down comforter. The room had it's own heating/cooling unit which we didn't use because we like it cool in our bedroom. The breakfasts were wonderful, way above most B&Bs we've stayed in. Cheese, spinach and bacon fritatta one morning and crepes with apples and a cider brown sugar reduction the next. Nice location close to many historic sights and wineries. It's on a few acres and animals roam free, including a peacock which greeted us every morning, preening and looking for a treat! It would have been nice to have been offered a glass of wine and some cheese in the evening, many places we've stayed do offer that amenity. Also, a plate of cookies on arrival would have gone well. There was tea and coffee and hot chocolate available in the common area. It was a bit pricey but we had a Living Social coupon so that helped. Altogether we had a very relaxing and enjoyable visit for 2 nights.

No need to look any further! This is the best B&B I've ever stayed at. I tend to be wary of B&Bs because they can be either too personal or a little creepy. Nancy runs this B&B and her service couldn't be better. She is there when you need her but doesn't try to be your best friend either. She gave us great coupons for wineries and attractions in the area. The house is lovely and the decorating is phenomenal (her daughter is an interior designer). I went with a group of 6 girls and we had a blast wandering the house and grounds. I stayed in the Robin's Nest room—loved it! My sister stayed in the cottage and also loved that. I can't recommend this more highly! Oh, and breakfast is delicious with tea, coffee and goodies all the time. Lots of beautiful wineries and sites near by.

We enjoyed a delightful breakfast, one of the best we'd ever tasted. The Daffodil room was charming, though we might have preferred a second floor room. The location may feel quite remote at night if you're driving, but it was nice to get away from it all, and there were many vineyards in close and easy driving distance during the day. Altogether, we had a lovely weekend.

We also did the wine tour which was lovely, and it was great being driven to all the vineyards. The scones were the best we have ever had. A terrific get-away!

Had I known how terrific High Meadows would be, I would have stayed an extra night. The grounds were beautiful- several acres of beautiful gardens, chickens, and even a peackock. The owner was delightful. The food (spinach fritata, scones, fruit, orange juice, and coffer) was delicious. The location was perfect- a short (and scenic) drive from several area wineries, Ash Lawn, and Monticello. Our room was spacious, clean, quaint. The bed was ENORMOUS and super comfortable. I didn't want to ever leave! I would highly recommend High Meadows.

We loved the character of this B&B; Nancy was so warm and welcoming and made very delicious breakfasts! We were surprised to see that there was not a TV in the room (which may have been mentioned, but I don't recall), and there were also a few unavoidable bugs in our room (stink bug season; they were everywhere in the area). I would definately consider returing to High Meadows and staying in another fun-ly decorated room!

High Meadows Vineyard Inn is located in a beautiful section of Virginia; it is rural and very quiet ( except for the resident rooster) but relatively close to Charlottesville. There are other interesting critters on the property as well - parakeets, a peacock, 2 outdoor cats and a flock of chickens. The Innkeeper is friendly and has great suggestions about places to visit in the area. The breakfasts were superb and they were very willing and able to meet my restrictive dietary needs. The building is historic and decorated both whimsically and with antiques - all in good taste. The bed was very big and high - a stool was needed to get into it, but a little too soft for my taste. It was a ver pleasant stay.

The host could not have been warmer or better informed and ready to share information about area events and facts. This is a happy and friendly place to stay from arrival to departure. The accommodations and grounds are lovely and the breakfast is wonderful. The common area of the main house with its large skylight which bathes the cheerful room in light is a terrific resting place replete with comfortable seating, good books and brochures and great coffee! We loved it. We had read the reviews so rating the various review categories as "meeting our expectations" just confirms all the positive reviews. We would stay here again -- just such a good experience!

My boyfriend and I went to High Meadows for a weekend getaway. Nancy, the owner, was very friendly. The rooms were beautifully decorated. We stayed in the daffodil - yellow walls with light blue accents. I wanted to decorate my own room that way! Everything was very clean and comfortable. My only complaint is that our bed started dipping in the middle so we didn't have a very good night's sleep, but the other guests we talked to didn't have any such problems. Breakfast was sourced from local ingredients and was simple and tasty: cheese-filled crepes covered in a pumpkin sauce with sausage, pear in a ginger cream, and coffee. Overall, if you're truly looking to get away from the city, this is a great place to go. The surroundingings are beautiful, nice for quiet strolls or reading a book. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious.

Loved this place, it was beautiful and breakfast was delicious! I bought a Groupon for a two-night stay and a winery tour/picnic. Not sure I could afford to come back unless I had another discount coupon, but had a wonderful time. Note: the Peony room (where I stayed) has only a tub, no shower, so if you prefer showers (as I do) pay attention to which rooms have what bathing situations :)

We stayed at this inn for the weekend. Nancy and her Daughter run this beautiful, colorful inn. One of the downsides was there were tons of cob webs outside the house, which needs a little bit more up keep. They work very hard, had great recommendations for wineries, Pippin Hill Vineyard had the best views, relaxation and food, it’s a must visit. We also visited the First Colony; the wine there was quite unique. We enjoyed a nice dinner at Amici’s in Scottsville. The inn has a Peacock, Rabbit and a few friendly cats. They also have chicken, which we got to taste some fresh eggs Sunday for breakfast. The food was very good and plentiful. We even got the chance to have breakfast outside on the side patio one morning. The inn was full of guests so the inn keepers were rather busy, we hardly got to talk to the daughter but spoke to Nancy one night for a while. She is very nice, highly active in the local community and enjoys her time there. We stayed in the Daffodil room, very spacious and beautifully painted. However the mattress on the queen bed needs to be replaced, as it sunk in the middle, which didn’t give us a good night sleep. It was uncomfortable. The room was furnished with beautiful antique furniture and a claw foot bathtub. I was told that this room doesn’t have a spare key and that the inn keeper forgot to ask me to leave it unlocked, which resulted in our bed not being made when we got back Saturday evening. It would have been nice if it was made up. It’s such a beautiful room. There is no cell phone service in this area. The Inn claims free internet access for guests, but there is no Wi-Fi signal in the bedrooms. You have to go to the beautiful back porch to get a bit of signal. I’d recommend the inn keepers to provide wireless internet signal in the rooms as well. Either way, this is one of the best places to unplug and unwind. I would visit again and would recommend it to a friend! If you are in the area, you should stop by!
So glad you liked the Daffodil! It's my mother's favorite room - it's so cheerful and sunny. Because we are a rural inn, modern technology is sometimes difficult to come by here...no cable, for example. Cell phone service we DO have - unless you are an ATT subscriber...other service is consistent: USCellular, Verizon and Ntelos all get service here, and of course we have an inn landline phone that guests are welcome to use. WiFi is received in some rooms - and always in the central public spaces. Spiders - well, they do come out at night...and despite their being swept away every day, their work reappears without fail every morning. Such hard work - we will work harder to keep the webs at bay. Thank you for your observations!

We had a really nice coming back experience. It is a fantastic B&B, though, at full price that we paid our first time, it seem a little steep. Our second time we were offered a 24hr period to book a room at half price, except holiday weekend. At half price, it was trully completely worth it. Nancy is very accomdating when it comes to directions, things to do, places to visit. However, she can be very bossy, and not as sweet as one might expect.

This was our first bed abd breakfast experience and it was OUTSTANDING! The meal were excellent and so was the hospitality. Hoping to go in the springtime again.

To begin with, the breakfasts were superb; the woman who does the cooking here could work at a Michelin starred restaurant, but I'm really glad she doesn't! The rooms were immaculate, the atmosphere was very quiet and pleasant, the grounds are well maintained, and the location, while off the beaten path, is perfectly located for anyone wishing to tour the many wineries of the area, or simply have a peaceful base of operations for exploring nearby Charlottesville. If I had to offer any criticism, it would be that the quiet is enforced by a complete lack of soundproofing; any noise above a very low conversational tone can be heard throughout the house. Of course, this is not unexpected, given the historic building, which is nicely appointed, attractively decorated, and well maintained. Our hosts were extremely accommodating, well organized, and the picnic lunch they prepared for us was a wonderful accent to a perfect day. High Meadows Inn takes pains to ensure good relationships with neighboring wineries, and the morning begins with a nice rundown of many of the opportunities available for shopping, eating, and of course, wine tasting. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property to anyone!

Inn keeper (Nancy) was very knowledgeable of Scottsville and the surrounding area as well as the history of the inn. The "Vineyard" was still in its infancy and non-producing. It was quiet and peaceful surrounded by various farm animals. Food was outstanding. Nice area and close to Charlottesville and several vineyards.

What attracted us to this inn was the colorful charm. It did not disappoint. The curator did a great job of creating a whimsical atmosphere in a historic building. We stayed in the Robin's Nest room (the blue one). Very comfortable bed. The caretaker is an excellent cook. Breakfast on day 1 was eggs benedict and some amazing scones. Day 2 was crepes. Fresh squeezed orange juice on both days. In addition to a great start to our days, we got good tips for local restaurants and picnic spots. The peacock is shy, but we did get a few pictures. The vineyard does not look like it will be producing wine any time soon, but it added to the sense of place as well.

High Meadows Inn was extremely charming. The house itself is decorated nicely and the food was fantastic! We especially enjoyed the packed lunch at the vineyards. The only downside would be the location. We were expecting it to be on a hill with a view, or at least a working vineyard, but instead it was just a house on a typical property. However, it is close enough to Charlottesville and I would also recommend it for those who are strong wine enthusiasts.

Just wanted to pass on my thanks to Nancy at High Meadows for our wonderful stay we just had. The value of what we got from what we paid with Groupon was amazing. When we arrived Nancy met us very warmly and explained everything we should expect from our two night stay. We had dinner at the two restaurants where they have deals with in nearby Scottsville. The pizza place, Slice of Heaven, was very good. The young lady who owns it is very nice and cordial. One of the highlights for sure was the breakfasts...we had baked peaches with a great cream sauce followed by berry crepes the first day and chocolate scones and a fritata the last morning. Both meals were amazing. The wine tours are also fun. Nancy packed us a picnic lunch (again, very good) and we spent the day touring the many wineries in the area. Nancy has deals with many of them so all of your wine tastings are free. Our favorite winery was the Blenheim Vineyards which happens to be owned by the musician Dave Matthews. Wineworks was also great-very friendly staff. Nancy gave us a GPS with all of the wineries plugged in as Favorites which made navigating to the next one easy. As another bonus, our stay included two passes to Monticello which we stopped at on our way home. The grounds are beautiful with a roaming peacock and chickens and a couple very laid back cats. We had aftershocks from the recent earthquake on our first night and the place held up great! Overall, a great stay and highly recommend it. Thanks again, Nancy! Tom & Sandra D.

Rooms -- Each of the rooms offer a lot of privacy and are uniquely designed so that your stay offers you a personalized experience from the rest of the residents. The room was spectacularly clean and you are provided with all of the amenities you need. Food -- The food was spectacular. The main host, Nancy, takes every opportunity to ask you for any dietary restrictions and gloats about using the freshest produce (organic when possible), freshest eggs, and meats purchased from a local butcher. (That's incredibly impressive when you're driving in from the city.) Nancy also gloats that they try very hard to create a breakfast that you normally wouldn't take the time to fix yourself if you were home. At our stay we had crepes the first morning and eggs benedict for the second morning for the regular menu, and my girlfriend who has multiple allergies, was given fresh fruit and oatmeal and an egg white omelet. Also, they take the time to make you a fully packed lunch for the second day so that you have food on your day of exploration. Experience -- Nancy collects everyone at breakfast and then tells you what you should expect. She gives you coupons for free wine tastings and directions on how to get to each of the local wineries. She offers you information, such as: best tasting, most popular, environmental practices, etc… Also, for those who are a little more directionally challenged, she offers to lend you a GPS. If seeing the historical sites is more up your alley, she also offers to book your tour on your behalf. Overall Character -- You can't say enough about how unique this place is. Great story for you to read on how this place came to be on the historical registry. And, the best surprise of all, Pretty Bird, the resident peacock who has a distasteful habit of eyeing you through the outside window if you use the lobby bathroom.

Exceedingly pretty, clean and comfortable rooms and grounds. Friendly hosts. Nice breakfast. I think most people would like this place as long as they are flexible and just want to read and chat and maybe sip a little wine. (The flexible part comes with 'going with the flow' rather than imposing individual tastes, etc. Now that I have stayed there I can see why that might have been an issue like some previous reviewers have claimed, in spite of the somewhat defensive responses from the innkeepers. We smiled, kept our mouths shut and took what we got, and all was well. With B&Bs I think that is standard.)

We just used our Groupon at High Meadows and loved it. This was my third time there and it's even better than I remembered. The house is beautifully decorated and our room in the cottage was comfortable and luxurious. Nancy's breakfasts were delicious and we enjoyed visiting Monticello and the wineries nearby.

We are regulars, now. We go to stay with Nancy every year. We've been in fall, for my wife's birthday, in summer for our anniversary, and now in mid-August just to get away. It was perfect each time. There is always something delicious to eat and the grounds are lovely. There are tons of wineries around and plenty of antique shops. Scottsville has a couple of restaurants and a supermarket so you don't have to feel too isolated, if you're from the city like we are. But the remoteness of it is one of its best qualities! I hope you enjoy it as much as we have!!
4.2 on August 16, 2011
The innkeeper was very cordial and informative regarding local wineries and restaurants in the area. The dinner we had there was exceptional, as my husband put it, the best steak he ever had and we've been to some more well know chain and highly regarded local eateries in DC area. The portions are appropriated size and the breakfast are good and filling with fresh squeezed orange juice.

An enjoyable 2 days spent touring the local vineyards and Monticello. The Innkeeper's daughter is an excellent chef, both of our breakfasts were outstanding and creative, and the bag lunch was huge, we didn't need dinner that day! The Inn is quaint, clean, homey; we are both so happy with the experience! I recommend it highly, especially if you are interested in touring 3 presidential homes in the area, and at least a dozen wineries!

We didn't know what to expect, since it was the first time staying in a Bed&Breakfast, but it will not be the last. Nancy and her son took great care of us, oh, and her daught, the chef. Dining was exquisite!!! We have absolutely no complain at all. Thank you!!

We stayed in the Peony room for our 10th anniversary and had a wonderful time. The hosts were very informative and nice as could be. They knew when to be helpful and when to let you be. Dinner and breakfast were wonderful. The picnic lunch packed for us was great. Definitely hope they continue to do that as we thoroughly enjoyed eating it on the deck of Blenheim Winery, overlooking their vineyards. We would definitely visit this place again. We were amazed at how many vineyards are in that area and look forward to visiting more that we couldn't get to. Hopefully the Inn will offer free tastings to different wineries in the future, so that those of us returning can visit different ones.

I wouldn't recommend this inn if your looking for a place that you would be able to enjoy your room and the inn all day -

Our stay was wonderful-the inn keeper can be a little grumpy (I feel like I got scolded a lot) but makes sure all is well and keeps things relaxing and simple. The rooms are darling and very clean-we stayed in the Peony and LOVED the jacuzzi! There are no TVs, so don't expect to lay around all day watching it. We had a great time wandering the grounds and petting all the animals, wine tasting, and exploring Charlottesville (about 20 miles away). Highly recommend a stay here. Breakfasts were delicious!

When I saw this deal on groupon I knew I had to get this for me and my boyfriend to get out of the city. We reserved 'the daffodil' room from a Wednesday until Friday. When we got there we were taken back with how lovely the entire house was especially our room which was incredible. A beautiful room with a great view of the front garden and a giant tub and fireplace. Upon arriving, nancy invited us to peak in some of the other rooms before the other guests checked in. We scoped out the two rooms on the top floor- the robins nest and the willow- which were also quite gorgeous. We then meandered around the grounds which had a bunch of really friendly animals including a peacock! Their vineyard included about 6 rows of vines which was nice to walk through but unfortunately they didn't have any bottled wine from their grapes. Soon though is the rumor. Breakfasts at the inn were more than impressive (blueberry crepes one morning, eggs benedict the next) all with farm fresh ingredients. Nancy was unbelievably helpful and we loved talking to her. We then took our prepackaged lunch and our tasting coupons and headed out for the day. Our lunch was, again, quite impressive. I'm already emailing them for receipes! nancy also helped us out the next day by making our monticello reservations and getting us the time we wanted despite them being sold out. I can't rave enough about this place and will absolutely consider coming back not to mention recommending them to anyone traveling near charlottesville!
5 on August 05, 2011
The room was fantastic as were the grounds. We ate every bit of breakfast and the FANTASTIC picnic lunch. The location is perfect just outside of Charlottesville and right in the middle of multiple wineries. Say hello to Chester and Triscuit the cat when you go! We cannot wait to go back!

I recently spent two nights at High Meadows w my spouse and we loved it. From the brightly decorated rooms, to the amazing beds, scenery and lovely food, it was just what the doctor ordered. Leaving I felt completely serene and happy. Would come back again in a heartbeat. Don't come if you are expecting a hotel experience w tvs, vending machines and working on your computer all day long. This place is all about relaxation. Nancy our hostess also gave us great tips on local wineries and other places to see (farms, orchards, etc.).

I was pleasantly surprised at every turn. Host was courteous. Food was great! Other guests were fascinating to talk to. The wine tour and picnic that came with our package were first rate! Host's local knowledge was terrific! Italian restaurant half a mile from the inn was inexpensive and delicious! There were also lots of things to do: tubing, Montecello (home of US President, T. Jefferson), wine tasting, and berry picking. Hilltop winery/berry farm was a particular quirky delight!

Nancy runs a spectacular bed and breakfast. We stayed in the cottage, which has a nice little deck, and a small kitchen, which was perfect for storing wine out of the sweltering heat. Food was great, and Nancy was great with recommendations, she even loaned us her GPS since cell phone reception around Scottsville/Charlottesville isn't great.

We had a great time staying here. My wife and I cannot wait until we can come back, especially in the Fall. We loved the scenery day and night. We saw lots of wildlife and loved the light show from the fireflies. The breakfast was fantastic! We also liked the fact that it was close to Blenheim Vinyards and Downtown Scottsville.

We enjoyed our stay here despite a few little glitches. The place is neat, clean, artsy. Nancy is friendly and informative. The food was exceptional at breakfast. Our dinner there was missing something, perhaps a bit more zing to the salad (being summer the availability of great local produce would not be an issue) and another side. What we had was tasty, but for the price could be better. We would recommend it to friends and family.

I feel in love with Virginia and High Meadow's hospitality. I'm already planning my next visit. Thank you Nancy.

My wife and I spent two nights at High Meadows with friends from Florida. We shared the cottage. Our overall stay was great! The high point of our stay was a dinner for four Friday night. We brought some great wines from our collection with us and enjoyed them with our friends and our server. The service was wonderful and the flow of the meal was perfect. Food quality was great, (beef, lamb and pork) . We enjoyed two breakfasts at the inn. Both were excellent! The grounds and gardens are being maintained and trees were being trimmed. No problems for the guests. (The staff allowed us to get some cuttings and plants for our garden at home. Roanoke VA) The chickens and other animals add to the experience. We had no problems with any of the live stock being too friendly or fussy. The science of transitioning new chicks to a new coupe was fun to watch. The massage is a very good value and the masseuse brings much appreciated professional suggestions to your experience and health. (We will be return customers.) We also did a Brewery Tour through a local service (not the normal tour). The staff at High Meadows arranged this for us, all was fine. (Next trip we will very likely drive our selves.) As far as value we were pleased to be included the spring special and were impressed with the value we received from our stay. If you are looking for good food and a quiet place to enjoy a few days of rural life, High Meadows is our choice. We will do it again soon.

This was my first experience at a B&B, so I was a bit wary, but it was simply a terrific experience. The place is gorgeous--inside and out--the owners have taken care to keep it looking modern and unique, so you really feel like you are in a different world. It is kept very clean, and the rooms themselves are just to die for. We stayed in the Robin's Nest, which is on the second floor of the main house, and it was decked out in blue with a "robin" theme. It included a bathroom with a shower stall, which was really convenient. The animals (especially the peacock), which are kept outside provide lots of entertainment as well! We only met Nancy, who was so warm and friendly. The breakfasts were unique and delicious. The location is a very quaint town on the James River about 25 minutes away from Charlottesville. We spent one of our days in Charlottesville and the other touring the local vineyards. Nancy provided us with lots of information on the various vineyards and wineries, so we could decide where to go. Overall, we had a wonderful experience--we would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick getaway (especially from DC). There is so much to do and see out in this area, and coming back to the B&B in the evenings was very relaxing. We will definitely come here again!

We really enjoyed ourselves at High Meadows! The service was outstanding (Yay, Cynthia!) and the food was incredible, including the homemade packed picnic lunch. Breakfasts included blueberry cornbread and egg, cheese, and spinich fritatta made with eggs from the chickens walking around the property. Another meal was ricotta-filled crepes with lemon-lavender sauce and farm-fresh sausage. Coffee was strong (yum!) and the juice was freshly squeezed. My only complaint is that the mattress had a well in the center, making sleeping uncomfortable with another person always rolling on top of you. Also, the Daffodil and Peony rooms have bathtubs (no shower) that sit right in the middle of the bedroom. The only "privacy" is obtained using a folding screen. The bathroom itself, at least in the Daffodil room, likely was a converted closet. While it wasn't too bothersome to us, someone who wants a large bathroom sanctuary should check into the details of the room. Overall, the furnishings in the rooms were lovely antiques. Please go on the winery tours, which are interesting and drive to each one is beautiful. I'm looking forward to going back soon.

We had a lovely visit to High Meadows. We took two days to have some time away from our three little ones. From the moment we arrived, the setting helped relax us. The food was wonderful and there was so much of it that we were never hungry. The breakfasts had both a fruit course and main entree (both so yummy). We were just disappointed that it kept raining in the evenings so we couldn't eat it outside. It's too bad you can't control the weather! We chose to have dinner on site out on the porch one evening. The wine selection was great and so were all three courses! We also enjoyed a picnic lunch that they made us one afternoon. My husband said it was one of the top lunches he has had. They also had coupons for free tastings at many local wineries and 10% off our purchase, which was great! The rooms exceeded expectations. We stayed in the Cottage Suite, which has a lovely private deck with chairs where you can have some morning tea before breakfast. It also had a mini kitchen and chairs. We peeked into a number of other rooms and thought they were all tastefully done and charming as well. The bed was comfortable and we slept wonderfully.

My husband and I enjoyed our recent and too short stay at High Meadows Vineyard Inn. The house, or should I say houses, are in remarkably original condition. We were very impressed with the fresh food and service. You should definitely sign up for dinner! The animals, chickens, cats, peacock, and duck make are quite at ease with visitors who walk the grounds or sit outside. The location is very convenient to visiting historic homes (Monticello and Ash Lawn) and vineyards. The proprietors are very friendly and helpful!

Cynthia Bruce and her family have created an outstanding B&B experience. My husband and I were quite taken by the graciousness and warmth of Cynthia's entire family. We felt "at home" immediately and eagerly anticipate a return visit. The rooms and beds are comfortable. The decor is at turns beautiful and whimsical, and most definitely evocative of the period. Also, we ate dinner at the Inn on our first night, and it is the best meal we have had in ages.

It was a wonderful quiet weekend. I felt renewed afterwards. Much better than 100 hours of yoga lessons. Great breakfast! There is no TV in room or cellphone signal in the area, but you really don't need it. If you either want to explore the area, with it's wine yards, Jefferson's house and Charlottesville or just want to get away from the noise and stress from the city, stay in the garden and read one of the hundreds of books or magazines lying allover the INN, this is definitely the place to book! Thank you Mrs. Bruce (Frau Schumacher) for all the courtesies! We will come back!!!

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in the cottage suite. No TV and no phone and did't miss them a bit. Everything was great from the food, the room, the views, and the hospitality. There is plenty to do or nothing at all. Loved the resident peacock and the other friends of the meadow. We would do it again. Unfortunately, we did not get to meet Nancy, one of the innkeepers. However, Cynthia did a superb job with everything!!! Thank you to all at High Meadows.

Everything here was very well thought out with great attention to detail. The room was better laid out and had more storage space than any hotel room I have stayed in. The breakfasts were lovely, delicious and well balanced. The inn keeper was welcoming, informative, and helpful. Everything about our visit (an anniversary celebration) was special. We will definitely stay here again.

The Inn is beautiful, and Nancy is a wonderful person. We did however get a 5 am wakeup call due to the peacock perching on our chimney and shouting his mating call down to us (I think this is a spring problem)! The breakfasts were the most delicious I can remember ever having. The vineyard wine tastings were fabulous, and Monticello was stunning. We did not receive the bottle of wine, cheese and meats upon our arrival, however, as promised in the Groupon package. We would definitely recommend High Meadows!

The only reason I score this place as "met my expectations" is that I expect good food and service and clean rooms when I go to a B&B. The place is a touch quirky, but that adds to its charm. And I loved the rooster and peacock in the morning, though my boyfriend could have done without the morning wake up. But it's a B&B with personality and good food, nicely situated outside Charlottesville.

My husband and I recently stayed in the lovely cottage suite. Everything about the suite was more than I had expected - from the bed, the linens and bath essentials, to the interesting custom tile work in the bathroom and yes even the toilet (push button)! This suite has many windows allowing you to take in the woods. Just splendid!! Oh, I cannot forget to mention the food. What a very pleasant surprise. We ate things we would have never ever order, and found ourselves thoroughly enjoying ever bite. Dinner and breakfast were special treats. The strawberry shortcake and apricot scones were to die for. Looking forward to visiting again for a bit longer to truly enjoy all the cottage suite has to offer! Thank you Nancy and Cindy.

Although the rooms and property were very nice, Nancy the innkeeper was not. We explained that our displeasure was based solely on her actions, providing specific examples from our two day event. No concern, but there were a lot of excuses. I had several conversations prior to our visit concerning a replacement meal for the one that was included with our stay. Unfortunately, the chef was away and we agreed upon a substitution that the inn would provide. Not only was our choice not prepared for arrival, which was agreed upon prior to our visit; but it consisted of so few items that it would be a stretch to call it more than a snack. And most certainly not close to the value that the inn pocketed for the meal substitute. Specific items that were agreed to be included on the platter such as chocolate and strawberries were missing and no mention nor apology made. Please take note that this was a substitute for a 3 course meal for two with wine which we paid for and costs customarily $110.00. Although the room was nice it was sweltering and humid, as was the house. Nancy did not choose to turn on the air conditioning since we were the only guests in the house. We called to ask for air conditioning; our hostess never answered. Being so late, and the heat insufferable; my husband turned on the air conditioning. The next morning instead of an apology for the lack of air conditioning; we were chastised and reprimanded for having turned it on. Our hostess stated that it was "her job" which left us wondering why she was not doing it. We were appalled, how discourteous to admonish us; placing the cost of energy to the inn above the comfort of the only paying guests in the house. A simple request for water at breakfast, I was told that I should get that myself. There are nice ways to inform guests they may freely take refreshments from the pantry but the inhospitality here was egregious. Choose another property where you can get both a nice room and a nice attitude.

We came here at the prompting of a GROUPON offer, which combined our stay with winery and Monticello tours. At the Inn, we lingered in the gazebo for wine, enjoyed the common areas of the Inn--and learned about its history, and of course relished the breakfasts and picnic. In town, we delighted in the attentiveness of the locally-owned restaurants and in the eagerness of the townspeople to share their town--including the levee walk. Thank you, High Meadows!

On the positive side, the inn is very pretty, clean and well-maintained and it is very quiet. On the negative side, we thought the service was lacking. We were chastised when we asked for towel replacements even though there was not a sign in the room to let us know that the inn is "green" and encourages reuse; we would have been happy to reuse, had we known in advance. Based on other reviews, we had dinner at the inn one night as a convenience (nothing much else around); the food did not meet our expectations, but the service was good. The breakfast was okay, but nothing exceptional; service was slow and it seemed like the inn was understaffed. We did not think that the innkeeper's attitude was very customer service-oriented. We would not go back.

The B&B consisted of two 19th century houses joined together along with lovely grounds that included a peacock, four cats and some chickens. The cats were all friendly, and the peacock was beautiful and interesting to watch. We saw two of the rooms, and they were both decorated nicely with antiques. We opted for the room with a more modern bathroom. We had a marvelous dinner, bottle of VA wine included, served outside (could also have eaten in the dining room or enclosed porch). Breakfast the next day was very good but not outstanding consisting of scrambled eggs, smoked fish, bread and a scone. The innkeeper was friendly and helpful but not intrusive. We enjoyed excellent value as we used a 50% off Groupon. We would go back even paying full price, but at 50% it was a steal.

From our greeting to our check out, Nancy and family were great. We stayed in the pretty Willow room and enjoyed wine on the porch, coffee in the gazebo and a fabulous breakfast. It was great to get away and still be so close to Charlottesville and it's attractions too.

Nancy is very friendly and helpful regarding things to do in the area. Our room was clean and comfortable, with the tub located in the room, separated by a privacy screen. The website states breakfast is served 6-10 AM, however, we were given a choice of 9 or 9:30 for breakfast. We are early risers, even while on vacation, and coffee was not available until around 8AM. Breakfast consisted of freshly gathered eggs, freshly squeezed orange juice and a cinnamon coffee cake. We needed to depart early on our second morning so did not have any breakfast, which was too bad. Dinner and dessert was delicious.
We most often can accommodate early breakfast - this was Easter morning, and we are also a family with children - and the Easter Bunny was most definitely expected! Unlike a large hotel, guests visiting a B&B should know that they are staying in what is usually the innkeepers home - and they are not typically run like a hotel...which is the best part of what B&B's have to offer, though perhaps confusing to someone more familiar with larger hotel properties. We do have a guest kitchen, with hot tea and snacks available 24 hours a day.

The drive thru the VA countryside was very relaxing as were the number of wineries in the area. The house may be "old" but was very well kept, inviting and cozy. The innkeepers did a wonderful job with food and made all the guests feel welcome, as if it were our own home. The property was great to explore but the only disappointment we experienced was that the peacock did not show off his plumage. We really wanted a shot of that!

Spent a night at the High Meadows Vineyard Inn -- stayed in the Daffodil Room and ate dinner and breakfast there. Really enjoyed our stay. The food was excellent -- a gourmet treat, and the hosts were very helpful and friendly telling us things to do in the area. The room was comfortable and had beautiful views.

We stayed here with a Groupon deal. Everything was fantastic. From the moment we pulled into the property until the moment we left, we absolutely loved our time spent here. Nancy was super-friendy and a great host. Our breakfasts were amazing and much more than we anticipated. The beautiful grounds presented a great place to pop the question...and she said yes! We are looking forward to coming back here every year. I would wholeheartedly recommend this B&B to anyone who's looking for a quiet and charming getaway.

Wonderful hospitality and excellent breakfasts. Only downside was the bed mattress - big swell in the Dafodil bed that was uncomfortable. Loved the wine tours, picnic lunch and tour of Monticello. would do it again!

It was hard to judge the service since there was such a stark contrast between how we were treated at the beginning versus later in our stay. When arriving, we didn't get a warm welcome and helpful information was non-existant (it's never good when you feel like you are imposing when asking where the room key is located), but by the end of the stay (and by the super nice man serving dinner) we were more warmly treated. It is a gorgeous place with amazing food, but if you are looking for southern hospitality or anything more than the absolute minimum attention, this B&B is not for you.
We are sorry that not everyone can completely enjoy their stay with us! In a B&B where the innkeeper is welcoming guests into their home, mutual respect is somewhat assumed...our rules of a non-smoking property are non-negotiable for many reasons, and made clear on both our website description and upon check-in. We also hope we are very clear about arrival times, and unfortunately, most of the time our rooms are simply not ready for check-ins earlier than our stated time. It's not us being unfriendly or unwelcoming, it's usually just that the rooms take several hours to be ready for our new guests...and we want to make certain that each and every room is as nice as it can be prior to welcoming the next guest. As to the room keys, we are an antique house with antique keys - and some people do not recognize them for what they are! :) Each room has one, though there is little reason for using them...we are safely ensconced on a hill in our small, country town, where people even in 2011 don't always lock their doors. We consider ourselves very lucky in that regard!

We booked our room in the attic suite. It was very spacious with a lovely round king size bed. Very comfy! The sitting area has a daybed so it could serve a small family. We chose the option of dinner nightly. The meals, which included wine were fabulous! We had filet mignon, lamb chops and salmon. The salmon was probably the best I ever had! Included breakfasts are also wonderful. They include free range chicken eggs from the chickens in the back yard! Talk about fresh! Speaking of chickens, the roosters do crow and woke us up daily. You may want to bring earplugs. There is a lovely peacock who also makes a lot of noise....squaking for it's mate who has moved on. The grounds are beautiful with lots of nooks for sitting and enjoying the solitude or reading a book. There are numerous wineries within a short driving distance and most the inn has discount coupons for the asking. There are many lovely attention to details at this inn. We are planning a return trip in August!

My husband and I took a few days to appreciate the quietness and joy felt when you enter the High Meadows B&B. Nancy took fantastic care of us, especially during dinner and in just sitting around talking to one another. The other couples in the home were also perfect to hold conversations with. The peacock was a joy and he sure loves to be talked to like the pretty boy he is! He parades around in full glory and rules over the other ducks, chickens and cats. Our breakfast of fresh eggs, smoked salmon and juice was perfect for my hungry husband and my pregnant body. Dinner, though, was by far the best food we've both ever tasted in our lives!!! I had a perfect salmon and asparagus while my husband indulged in the steak. The seasoning was to a degree unhad by us before. Nancy's daughter, formerly a chef in Boston, makes everything we ate right there in the home. They have truly mastered the art of running a business while making people feel special. Thank you both for the wonderful Baby Moon!

My boyfriend and I went for a two night weekday stay at the beginning of April. We had an amazing time. We stayed in the Cottage Suite and enjoyed the clean fresh well decorated atmosphere. Everything seems to be newly renovated. I've seen pictures of many of the bed and breakfasts around the area and they just seemed dated and lackluster. The rooms were brightly painted and had everything you could possibly need (don't expect a TV however)! Nancy was an outstanding host! We only had breakfast at the B&B but only because we were running around throughout the day and night in the area. Nancy stocks up on area magazines loaded with local eateries, brewery's etc. and points out areas of interest for your party... the rest is up to you. The grounds are kept up very well that you'll enjoy just sitting outside watching the ducks, roosters and peacock meander around the lot. The ONLY inconvenience was that the the entire B/B is non smoking. I don't have any issues with this but my boyfriend smokes and he had to wait till we left in the morning or take a walk to the bottom of the hill to smoke. I can completely understand their reasoning so no bad remarks here about that. Just be prepared to take a hike. ;) I Highly Recommend!

This Inn had beautiful comfortable rooms, and an oustanding dinner service. The food was some of the best I've ever had and since I got the stay with a Groupon - it was an exceptional value. I've never been so relaxed! The Inn is close to 7-10 wineries and made for a wonderful weekend away.

We stayed in the Cottage Room, which was wonderful! This is the perfect place to get a way from the bustle of city life and stresses of everyday. We lucked out with perfect weather, great food and good conversation with other guests! I recommend the filet for dinner, although everything was good. The cheese/wine tray is a must (I have been craving it every since)! The only downside: we had to return to work, two days wasn't long enough! Thank you for everything!

My husband and I stayed at High Meadows Vineyard Inn using a groupon and it was a fabulous experience! Nancy is a gracious host - and with her very talented daughter has put together beautiful rooms (each one is different; we stayed in one room of the cottage and loved it!) and delicious meals that make the 2.5+ hour drive from DC well worth it. The Cheese Blintzes for breakfast were a treat!

My husband and I stayed overnight with few expectations b/c we had purchased a groupon to stay here. Well the inn exceeded our expectations. It is located in a beautiful area, the house is very interesting and everything was romantic and inviting. We would consider going back again even without a groupon!

The innkeeper/owner was NOT warm and inviting. She was snappy, short, and frankly, quite rude. I think she regrets having done Groupon and therefore doesn't really care if she gets the Groupon repeat service. For the $150 paid, it was a good deal, but I'm certainly not going back! (to be fair, others seemed to have a different impression of the service, so perhaps we just caught her on a couple bad days).

My husband and I celebrated our 19th anniversary taking a getaway to the Charlottesville area. We stayed at this delightful B&B which had absolutely scrumptious breakfasts!!! We especially loved the picminc basket that was packed for us as we toured local wineries. Lovely. Our only disappointment was that there was no TV or internet access. Also, my husband was not allowed to smoke his cigars outside. Other than these issues, we would highly recomment this B&B.
We do have wireless internet access for guests who wish to bring their own computers...but we do not have a designated computer for guests use. While most rooms have fine wireless service, there are a couple that do not. If it is important to you, please make sure to inquire when you make your reservation! All common areas have access - but remember, we are RURAL - there is no cable accessible to us, many cell phones do not get service, and if it is particularly windy, even our wired internet is spotty at best! No tv's - but every room has a Bose stereo system, some with Ipod docks. Also, we are indeed a non-smoking property, inside and out, all 13 acres.

We came with another couple and shared the cottage. We loved the kitchenette that is in one of the rooms- we stayed up late night playing cards at the table in there- was perfect! The peacocks were fascinating to watch climb the tree behind the cottage and if the weather had been warmer, the deck would have been great to sit on. We felt like we had a ton of privacy and yet were close to the house. The dinner we had was very good and the service at dinner was attentive without being smothering. Breakfast included warmed grapefruit which we have already made at home- it was unbelievable and Nancy was happy to give us the recipe. We had a great stay and recommend High Meadows to any one looking for a bed and breakfast that offers privacy and great accommodations, all at the same time!

Nancy was a lovely host, Cynthia is a great cook, and Cynthia's husband is an attentive waiter! All around a nice time. Coming from the DC metro area, it was great to get away for a weekend to this quiet inn. If you're dependent on TV and internet access, this might not be the place for you-- there are no TVs in the rooms, and internet was spotty. But if you have nice weather, you'll be busy walking around outside anyway. Great place to curl up with a book. Eggs fresh from the chickens, a peacock and ducks running around the property, and some friendly cats made the stay fun. Delicious dinner and breakfast. If you have any foods you don't like, be sure to let the staff know, because everyone otherwise is cooked the same food for breakfast. We stayed in the cottage room (there are two; ours did not have the patio). It doesn't get very dark at all in the room because there is a skylight and there are only thin white curtains on the windows. So, if you're a light sleeper, I would suggest a different room.
Just a small clarification: Ryan is Cynthia's brother - and he is a wonderful part of our family team. We are glad you found his service helpful, most people really enjoy meeting him! It is typical at a small B&B for breakfast to be served as we do - we cook one thing for the house, and we alternate between sweet and savory mornings. If you stay with us 2 days, you will have something sweet (crepes, waffles, etc) and some sort of an egg dish (eggs Benedict, frittata, etc)while you are here. Though we do know of a few places that offer choices in the mornings, most inns of our size do not. So - that is generally why we inquire about food sensitivities before you check-in - we do need to know about those! Warmly, Cynthia and the High Meadows Staff

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The food was quite good. The same breakfast is served to everyone. Dinner choices, if you choose to buy dinner there, are made ahead of time. The Dogwood Suite is very funky. It's cute, but not quite what I was expecting. It's not as private as you might expect an attic suite to be. The area is beautiful. We had a wonderful time and Nancy was extremely helpful. It was a nice get-a-way from the city.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at High Meadows. It's a wonderful and interesting old home in a picture-perfect town-- and we were there in the rain! Nancy and Cynthia have mastered the art of the B&B. The rooms are beautiful and the gardens were just beginning to awaken after a long winter. We enjoyed ourselves and plan to return on the chance that it could be even more wonderful in the sun!

From the minute we arrived I was completely charmed by High Meadows. Could have been the tuxedo cat running across the lawn to escort us to the porch. Could have been the peacock showing off for the ducks. Could have been the absolute beauty of the place. I can't define it. I relaxed immediately. We stayed in the Cottage suite which was spacious, comfortable and soooo quiet. Loved it! The food was fantastic for breakfast and dinner, and we felt valued as guests. We can't wait to return!

Our recent overnight stay proved to be exactly what the Doctor ordered! We were looking for a relaxing, restorative getaway and that is exactly what we found at High Meadows. On our way to the Inn, we stopped at a few of the local wineries recommended by the Inn Keepers on their website, excellent decision! Once at the Inn, we were greeted warmly by Nancy who showed us to our room and finalized dinner plans. While relaxing before dinner, we were pleasantly surprised by the sound of the local peacock! For both dinner and breakfast, the food was excellent; all fresh, local ingredients, served beautifully on antique china. We came because of the Groupon, but we'll be back because of the Inn!

We recently stayed at High Meadows through the use of a groupon. My husband and I loved our room--the Daffodil. The bed was SUPER comfortable, and the claw-footed tub was perfect for a long soak. Had a wonderful night here recently. Walked the grounds, past a picturesque (sp?) vineyard, met the peacocks, roosters, cats, etc. Sat down to a delicious meal, that was served slowly, allowing us to enjoy the atmosphere, then sat down to play trivial pursuit as fantastic music played softly in the background. Comfy bed, soft sheets, tasty breakfast, and we were off to our next adventure. Highly, highly recommended.

High Meadows is quaint yet has a lot of personality, even during our stay in the off season. Each room has its own unique characteristics. The family who runs it is warm and accommodating, and the colorful peacocks roaming the grounds are but one of the many pleasant surprises you'll find at High Meadows. Would love to stay again!

We were so incredibly happy with our experience with High Meadows Vineyard Inn. A few days before we arrived they informed us that the chef would not be there to make our dinner as expected, and they did a fantastic job of making sure we had options of what to do instead. They were incredibly accommodating and willing to make it up to us. The room and the grounds were wonderful and very peaceful, and the owners very friendly. We had a wonderful relaxing weekend and will definitely be returning.

I was very pleased with my stay at High Meadows Vineyard Inn. The dinner far exceeded my expectations and was excellent. The grounds were very nice and I enjoyed the company of the peacocks, ducks and chickens. The rooms, value and cleanliness all met my expectations, which were fairly high to begin with. A surprise highlight, for a history fan like myself, was the mirror that hung behind Patrick Henry when he gave his "Give me liberty, or give me death!" speech. I would highly recommend the High Meadows Vineyard Inn to others.

I really enjoyed my stay at High Meadows. The B&B is certainly unique with each part of the house a different color. Surprisingly, it was still very pleasant in the house and the grounds are beautiful. The grounds are nicely kept, with grapevine trellis and wandering peacocks. Nancy, the owner, organized a wine tour and packed a very nice picnic lunch, which turned out to be the perfect day activity. Breakfasts are also very good, with our stay including crepes on the first morning and smoked salmon on the second. Overall I would absolutely recommend this B&B for those looking for a short getaway from city living.

My boyfriend and I recently used our Groupon to stay at High Meadows Vineyard Inn and really enjoyed our time there. The house itself is so interesting with the spectrum of bright colors and textures. It's hard not to look around and want to touch and read the multitude of books around the house. Nancy was a great host and we spent a lot of time talking with her about the history of the space. There are peacocks and animals roaming around too. My boyfriend and I both agreed this is one of the best bed and breakfasts we have stayed at, in a location we would love to visit again.

Visited recently for a night with my husband and enjoyed a relaxing stay. Nancy was very friendly and helpful (and accommodating when I made a mistake on our reservation!) but she was not intrusive at all. Dinner and breakfast were delicious (eggs from the property at breakfast) We enjoyed watching the peacocks stroll the yard in the morning. Several wineries are close by, and they have maps and info to guide you through the area. Charlottesville is also just about 15 minutes away. We were also happy at dinner that we had the option to dine without being seated with other guests. They were all perfectly nice, but we got away to talk to each other at dinner!

Everything was perfect, and the innkeepers as gracious as we could have hoped!

We were well welcomed. The Inn was a delight. The room was comfortably elegant and relaxingly appealing. The food was absolutely delicious with wonderfully unexpected pizzaz. Much attention to detail including an extra heater in the room given the extra cold outside. Great proximity to Monticello. My husband (surprise for him) was absolutely thrilled.

We decided to escape for an overnight at High Meadows after purchasing a groupon with the pictures and reviews. We hit a couple wineries on the way down and checked in at 3pm. We were greeted at the door and happily suprized that we were the only couple in the house for the night. Spoiled is the only word. Our room and reception were exceptional. Dinner and breakfast the following morning were worth every penny. Our room was the Dogwood, the attic suite, with a separate sitting area and fireplace and bedroom apart from the rest of the house. The suprize in the morning, other than the wonderful breakfast was the peacocks that were waiting outside the sitting room and a tour of the rest of the accomodations. The hospitality was outstanding as this was our first B&B experience. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to get away, but not away! When we go back, we'll definitely be requesting the Peony room as it has an amazing tub. All in all an exquisite experience that we without reservation recommend to all.

Our stay at High Meadows Vineyard Inn was a gift from our children and their families through a Groupon. The drive to Scottsville was enjoyable and the hospitality at the Inn was warm and welcoming. Our Robins Nest room was quaint and comfortable. None of these amenities, however, could compare to our dining experience. Every course was excellent, but our filet of beef au poivre was extraordinary. The next morning's breakfast of stuffed crepes and sausage was a special treat. Our escape to High Meadows was wonderful.

We thoroughly enjoyed two days at High Meadows Vineyard Inn.THe rooms were quaint. The service was excellent and everyone we dealt with was very friendly and helpful. The dinner we had on the porch was very good with a nice wine choice. We took a trip to wineries and to Monticello and to James Monroe's House where we ate our picnic lunch which was quite good. The Monticello tickets were part of our package. One evening we ate in Scottsville at a new Italian restaurant, Amici , which was quite good and reasonably priced even before we applied the discount coupon we received as part of our package. The trip from Washington is about 3 hours and that was just enough to give it a sense of adventure, but not too far to be tiring. Try it, I think you will like it. Bill and Carmen Rockville,Md.

We stayed at High Meadows on our one year anniversary because it was the first place my husband took me for a week-end get-a-way when we were dating. I got a GI bug and was sick!!! We recently stayed in the Dogwood Attic Suite for two nights and loved the experience! The room was well-appointed, comfortable, and spacious. The grounds and "pets" made the experience even more memorable. The food was delicious (two breakfasts and one dinner) and the service excellent! One night we drove into Charlottesville for dinner, which was about a 20-30 minute drive. We also went into the very small town of Scottsville to look around and there was a neat boating historical area right near the river. Nancy was a great resource for local wineries, history of the area, and history of the Inn. I hope to go back soon! The only part of the trip that could have been better was the wine tour booked through the Inn with VA Wine Tours. Even though we were a group of 4, we started the tour by driving at least 45 minutes to pick up another couple. The scenery would have been enjoyable if the driver was able to drive with a consistent pressure on the gas pedal. His driving made us all feel nauseous, which is not a good way to start a wine tour! Then we drove and drove and drove so that we were only able to visit 3 wineries for brief periods of time. There were plenty of wineries close to the Inn, so next time I would either do my own tour or confirm ahead of time how many wineries and the location of each!

We arrived early enough on a Friday to see all of the rooms. They are all beautiful. The house is charmingly colorful and architecturally interesting. We stayed in the Dogwood, which is the upstairs space in the oldest part of the house. We had our own steep staircase, which could be a problem for someone with health issues. It was very quiet in Dogwood. The private bathroom and sitting room were very nice. We had an excellent dinner on Friday night and some really delicious chocolate covered strawberries on Saturday night. Breakfast was delicious and varied both mornings. The location was convenient to area wineries and Charlottesville.

I discovered the High Meadows Vineyard Inn through Groupon and purchased a two night stay as a Valentine's Day gift for my husband -- and what a treat it was for both of us! The room was large, clean and beautiful, the innkeeper was friendly, attentive and responsive and the food was fabulous (it was fresh, local and plentiful, not to mention creative and delectable). Typically, I do not expect a B&B to offer a fantastic D, but dinner was wonderful and very graciously served. The property has two peacocks, which hang out just outside the lobby -- beautiful and very fun! Finally, there are restaurants and live music about a half mile away and literally dozens of vineyards within a 20 mile radius. Charlottesville is a 20 minute drive, and also has tons to offer in terms of food, shopping and entertainment. I very, very highly recommend the High Meadows Vineyard Inn (and I understand they are planning to offer more groupons in the future!).

Spent one night in the brightly decorated "cottage" with recently renovated bathroom (during the winter but the experience was warm and cozy). Nancy, the innkeeper, was very engaging and knowledgeable about the history of the inn and the area; knew when to chat and when to leave us to ourselves. Meals were excellent! Enjoyed the peacock perched on the railing of the deck outside our window to greet us in the morning!

Lovely B&B including peacocks that wander around the property. Beautiful location, cozy place to curl up with a book and relax. Interesting bit of history surrounding the house.

We slipped down to High Meadows Vineyard Inn from Northern VA for a quick break. It is a beautiful Inn, a peaceful setting, extremely welcoming, and a very easy drive for us. We can't wait to go back!

I got a Groupon deal for this B&B to get away from DC, which exceeded our modest (if any) expectations. The room (Dogwood), the service, the food, things to see around were all great for a weekend getaway. We only stayed Saturday night through Sunday morning, which my boyfriend and I agreed, was not enough. The room had multiple light sources, a fireplace, tons of towels, very nice body care products (gels, lotions, masks, etc), bath robes. The food was pretty awesome: homemade cookies, free range egg omelets (we saw the chickens in the back), warm bread, grass fed beef for dinner. We highly recommend the bread pudding with very strong whiskey sauce. My salmon was somewhat overcooked, but I am guessing that was because it was done before the beef. The people are super friendly and nice. There are tons of vineyards to check out. Monticello is a few minutes away, definitely gives you an awesome perspective on Jefferson as a person. Nice touches: very nice china for the morning coffee/tea, a peacock chilling on the back porch and wi fi (no AT&T there).

The chefs at High Meadows are worth the trip! Every meal was made with farm fresh ingredients, and was prepared to perfection. From fresh berries with a honey cream dipping sauce to homemade keylime pie with homemade whipped cream, the food and ambiance were fantastic. The Peony Room was lovely. If you are a shower person, be aware that there is a shower attachment in the bath, but no actual shower. Everything was fantastic, and I highly recommend it!

Great stay!!! The owners and staff were very friendly and outgoing. They took great care of us. Great atmosphere. The lunch that was packed for us on the brewery tour was amazing and breakfast was delicious!! Fun place to go with another couple!

My husband and I have stayed in many inns over the years and this experience is now up near the top of our list of favorites. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer and in fact are already planning our next stay! Nancy and Cynthia were delightful and welcoming hosts, and we enjoyed several interesting conversations with them about the history of the inn, Scottsville and surrounding area. The Property and Rooms -- Loved the bright colors both inside and out as well as the interesting furniture and decorative items. The large property the inn occupies is wonderful for a relaxed walk and time of day. You can stroll down to the pond, watch the peacocks (yes, there are 2!) or chickens, or amble through the vineyard. Our room was extremely comfortable with several upholstered chairs for reading or just relaxing, and a small table. The bed was comfortable - firm without being hard - and we had an excellent night's sleep. The room had a variety of lamps and fixtures that allowed us to adjust the lighting from bright to romantic. Dinner was served in our room which was a lovely romantic touch! (There is a dining room.) We were able to peek into the other rooms that weren't occupied and all are lovely and well-appointed. The Food -- Outstanding in a word, both dinner and breakfast. Breakfast is included and although the dinner is extra and not inexpensive, it was well worth the price. Nancy and Cheryl get as much produce and other food products locally as possible, and everything is made from scratch either by them or people in the community. Examples - we had a scrumptious frittata at breakfast made with eggs from chickens raised by Nancy and Cheryl, and the salad at dinner included goat cheese (the best I've ever had) produced by a nearby friend who raises goats! All in all -- A thoroughly delightful experience! Many, many thanks, Nancy and Cheryl!

I took my husband here for his birthday and we had a wonderful stay, only wish we could have stayed longer! The food was exceptional, both dinner and breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed talking with Cynthia and Nancy about the Scottsville area and the fascinating history of the inn. We're already planning a return trip! We've stayed in many inns over our years of travel and High Meadows ranks up at the top of the list!

This is a delightful B&B tucked away near several wineries and Charlottesville. We came in January and the house was still decorated for Christmas, making it very festive. The colors and decor were very relaxing and there was a place for guests to relax to read or relax and enjoy a beverage and some goodies. Nancy was very helpful in assisting us in planning where to visit during the day. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and romantic near the fireplace. Since it was January, it was too cold to be outside, but you could tell the grounds are probably lovely when it gets warmer. I would recommend it to friends and stay again.

We arrived after a day of touring several area wineries. We were surprised by the colorful exterior of the building, and also the colorfully creative interior. We were met by the owner Nancy who offered us to help ourselves to hot teas, fresh baked goodies and other snacks. After confirming our dinner menu choices and wine selection along with time for dinner and breakfast, she showed us to our lovely suite, the Dogwood. We had one sitting room with a fire place, and a large bedroom and private bath with separate shower. The bed was round and really comfortable. We immediately fell asleep to take a nap before dinner. Around 6, we could smell delicous food and could hear soft music. We went down for dinner at 7:30, and the small dining room was filled with couples enjoying dinner. The food was terrific along with the wine selection. The waiter was the owner's son, who gave us excellent service. After dinner we went out for a quite walk in the vineyard. We had a great night's sleep, wonderful breakfast, and really enjoyed our time there.

I went for a night with my mom as a surprise for her. Great mother-daughter trip. We stayed in the daffodil room and had dinner and breakfast there. Food was amazing! The interior design and unique touches were really cool. The owners were very hospitable and friendly. Nice to walk around the property after breakfast, keep an eye out for the peacocks. Fun antique store nearby, Monticello within an hour, much to do and see. Would love to go again!

This is our third visit to the Inn since Nancy and Cindy took over. Each time it is wonderfully familiar, yet always something different, too. This time we stayed in the Dogwood suite, which was cozy, and the bed was wonderful. Even in winter when outside activities are limited, this place feels like it's a world away from our normal life. That's right: no phone, no TV and glad for it, this is a chance to experience a bit of a slower, natural pace, and I think one of the reasons I love it so much. (But still, wi-fi access in case you NEED to stay in touch). The meals are great, and knowing where my food comes from just adds to my sense of comfort. Thank you Cindy and Nancy, once again, for this chance to get away.

We stayed for a night over Christmas week. The inn was very nice - clean and comfortable. The inn keeper (Nancy) was attentive and nice to speak with. They have 2 peacocks which were neat. The food was good, don't know if dinner was worth $55, but it was well prepared. Scottsville is just about dead. The town is tiny and there are only 3 shops and 2 small museums. The inn is a good 30 minutes from Charlottesville. My husband wanted to point out that there are no tvs at the inn, either in the rooms or common areas. Since there is nothing to do in Scottsville in the evening and the road to C-ville is narrow and windy, this could be important to know. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

I went with my best friend on the Monday before Christmas and it was quiet and peaceful. We were in the cottage behind the house which was really adorable. The service was great, especially when our car wouldn't start because of the cold. Loved the scenery and the peacocks walking around the property. The breakfast was yummy and I am actually going to use one of the recipes for my breakfast menu Christmas morning! We had a great time overall!

We stayed the weekend of 12/17/10 and this was our first B&B experience. Everything exceeded our expectations! Nancy was such a gracious and friendly host. The meals were fantastic and on-par with our favorite high-end restaurants (the meat was all local and the steak was so tender)! We stayed in the Peony and loved the room. It met ours needs very well with the king size and very comfy bed and very cozy and appropriate furnishings and decor. The fireplace was also very much appreciated. The room was a bit colder than we had hoped though. The B&B itself was very beautiful and very festive...I really enjoyed and appreciated the Christmas decorations and music and it was a really nice touch for this time of year! It made me feel very much at home. We caught a glimpse of the resident peacocks. Nancy was able to provide us with great recommendations for local antique stores and breweries. Overall, we had a lovely time relaxing and reconnecting at High Meadows and we would definitely return.

Just returned to DC after a very relaxing weekend at High Meadows. It's definitely worth the drive down from Charlottesville. Nancy could not have been more gracious, Ryan's dinner service was perfect and the food was great. I particularly recommend having wine and cheese brought to your room one afternoon.

We stayed in the Peony room which was very nice but a bit drafty (it was, afterall, a very frigid night in December). The owner was really friendly and the food was awesome. We couldn't have asked for a nicer place for the Groupon price, which was a steal!

To my girlfriend and me, B&B equals solitude, tranquility and comfort. High Meadows was a fantastic solution for a weekend getaway from the city (Washington DC). The Innkeeper and her family (yes, family run) made us feel quite welcome. The food was delicious; the service, friendly; the atmosphere, beautiful; the price, not inexpensive- though you typically get what you pay for. We also loved the added feel of a country farm: cats, chickens, roosters, peacocks roam the property. We'll definitely stay at High Meadows again; just 20 minutes to Historical Charlottesville!

My wife and I stayed at the High Meadows Vineyard Inn on Dec. 4 and had a wonderful experience. Dinner and breakfast were outstanding, as the chef used local ingredients to thoughfully prepare our dishes. Service was enjoyable at meals and throughout the stay, and the owners couldn't have been more delightful. It's near many unique wineries and Charlottesville. Perfect getaway weekend from DC.

It was our first time at a B&B. We went for our 42nd Anniversary, I'm so sorry we only stayed one night. It was such a change from our usual condos. It was Romantic and Relaxing. The dinner and wines were the best ever. Breakfast was great also. I didn't know I could enjoy something old so much. The service was was friendly and comfortable. David and Linda

We had a wonderful time. We are city folk so this was different for us. When we got to the inn, we were greeted with nothing but smiles (and we got there late- around 11 pm). The food was AMAZING (we had steak)! It was better than anything we had in Charlottesville (which is less than a 30 minute drive). It was a wonderful place for my husband to relax, unwind, and do some reading.

Did a fantastic job accommodating numerous (!) food allergies (food was AWESOME). For those of us that suffer with food allergies, dining can be a stressful event when you haven't prepared it. The food was absolutely divine and I was relaxed knowing that I was being completely taken care of. Every dish that was brought to me was fully explained on how it was prepared and the ingredients used. I wish I could have them cook for me all the time! The bed was wonderfully comfy and cozy. The staff was super helpful and friendly, but knew when to just let you be too. We stayed in the Cottage Suite Room and it was delightful. Treat yourself to a get away from the DC life and just go and enjoy time with your family. Loved being there and I wouldn't hesitate to go back or send family and friends.

We left our busy lives in Williamsburg, VA and settled into High Meadows Inn for peace and quiet and time to renew our love. We had a romantic French picnic dinner by the fire in the French Cottage. We slept like we had no cares in the world on the comfortable, deep, plush king bed and woke refreshed and ready to enjoy time together. After a breakfast that demonstrated cooking art combined with tasty delights, we took on the historical offerings of the area. After two nights at High Meadows Inn, we had renewed our spirts, found that romantic spark and found that perfect hide away. This was our second trip to High Meadows Inn and it will not be our last. Find yourself, find your spirit, find a way to slow down and enjoy life. Let Nancy and Cynthia ( owners) welcome you to the perfect get-away (High Meadows Inn) E Hall

My husband and I stayed at High Meadows for a few days in mid-November while we toured some of the surrounding vineyards. The innkeeper, Nancy, always had a few minutes to chat and made us feel very welcome. The food was excellent and Ryan, Nancy's son, was a trove of information about the area's wineries. The rooms are cozy and you melt into the oversized beds. The inn itself is historical, but has an eclectic feel (check-out the background music!). Just the right balance. At the end of our visit a big hug from Nancy sent us on our way. We will return. Highly recommended.

We stayed here on Halloween Weekend this year and were extremely pleased with the level of hospitality and ammenities at the inn. Nancy provided superb service and made us feel like we were at home. Her recommendations for restaurants were excellent. We had never stayed at a bed and breakfast and didn't know what to expect. I think that the stay here exceeded any expectations and set the bar high for any future bed and breakfast visits. I highly recommend a stay here at High Meadows and truly cannot wait to visit again!

we were desperately craving a break from the city and decided to escape for veteran's day. we stayed in the peony room and it was amazingly cozy and romantic...just what we needed. the fireplace (with a log to burn) and the jacuzzi tub were fantastic. we tried the romantic dinner and were pleasantly suprised with a homemade potato soup and filet mignon. we tried the bread pudding with whiskey sauce and again, we were suprised at how delicious everything was. breakfast the next morning consisted of french toast drizzled with apple cinnamon compote and a pink grapefruit laced with caramalized brown sugar. it was simply..the most fabulous overnight stay we can remember. we can't wait to go back and are considering a wedding there (if he proposes).

What a great bed and breakfast. I loved it here! We stayed in the Daffodil room, and it was beautiful. Being the last ones to check out I was allowed to view every room, and they were all beautful and charming. The whole house has a wonderful history, and is decorated to be warm and hospitable. The food was great and the owner's were even better. I felt so at home and comfortable here, it was like visiting an Aunt's house. We would absolutely stay here again a great find!

Upon returning 14 years later, we love it even more!! The current owners have done a great job with continuing with the "authenticness" of the Inn and the food was delicious (the breakfast and dinners!!. We also had massages while we were there and that was a nice addition.

When we arrived to this cheerful, and elegant property, we were told to make ourselves at home, and although some innkeepers just say that, Nancy really meant it. First, our room, the Daffodil was beautiful and boasted one of the most comfortable beds I can remember, and I love my own bed. The next 24 hours were blissful as my wife and I reconnected after working way too much, and seeing each other way too little. We awoke to fresh coffee and cinnamon apple crepes that were decadent. High Meadows is conveniently located to all the attractions of the Charlottesville area, while at the same time remaining "off the beaten path" enough to feel away from it all. I have never felt so at home in someone else's home, and I plan on returning as soon as time allows. Thanks Nancy!!!

My husband and I stayed at High Meadows for a much needed escape night. We relaxed the minute we drove onto the grounds. We had a great time exploring and walking the property. Went home relaxed and refreshed!

My husband and I, along with another couple, stayed at High Meadows last weekend and had such an enjoyable & relaxing time. The decor is bright and cheery, yet warm and cozy. The rooms are extremely clean, uniquely decorated and are large, especially for a historic home. Nancy is absolutely wonderful and makes you feel like you're part of her family from the moment you step in the door. She takes time to offer suggestions on restaurants and wineries, and goes above and beyond to make sure you have anything and everything you need during your stay. Cynthia makes an amazing breakfast every morning, and even added poached pears to the menu after I inquired about them (and they were SO good!). The one morning we woke up without electricity due to an early morning car accident that knocked out power in Scottsville. Nancy and Cynthia were calm and professional and made the best of the situation, which was obviously out of their control.....breakfast was served (thank goodness for gas stoves), hot chocolate and tea were made, and we ate our breakfast by candle light. It was actually kind of fun. I did tons of research and read lots of reviews while looking for a place to stay near Charlottesville and amongst all the wineries. All the positive reviews you read about High Meadows could not be more accurate. I have stayed in a lot of hotels and B&Bs and can honestly say that this is one of the best I have ever been to. You will not be disappointed. Oh, and when you do stay at High Meadows, don't forget to look at their renovation album that they have in the sitting area....very neat!

The 13 acres are beautiful, we walked through the vineyard, down to the pond, and to the pumpkin patch. Nancy was a fantastic innkeeper who went above and beyond. Her daughter Cynthia is an amazing cook! Every morning we were surprised by the extravagant meals, that were made from scratch!! I would very highly recommend a stay at this inn.

My husband and I spent several days here and were delighted with the entire stay. From Nancy's (the owner) warm welcome to the amazing and bountiful breakfast (cooked by her daughter, Cynthia) each morning. We could not have asked for more. We especially loved the rural setting complete with chickens and peacocks. The best part is that we got A+ treatment without the pretense. We felt very at home and comfortable. We could be as social or private as we wanted. perfect balance. The trip into Charlottesville/Monticello was an easy 20 minute drive up Rt 20. We visited several wineries, all within very easy/scenic drives. I would highly recommend scheduling dinner there. Delicious, fresh, and extremely generous portions--3 courses served with a companion wine. To make our trip even more memorable we did an early morning balloon ride with Bonaire Charters. Nancy was so accommodating--she had a late breakfast awaiting us after our landing. We highly recommend this B&B. You will not be disappointed.

I thought for sure that all of the great reviews for High Meadows were inflated or exagerrated about how wonderful this place is. I was wrong. This is a beautiful and charming place for a weekend retreat. Nancy and Cynthia have done a wonderful job decorating the B&B and spoiling their guests. While we were not smart enough to book a dinner reservation, our breakfasts were delicious. We ordered chocolate covered strawberries that were delivered to our cottage room. Peacocks greeted us on our way to breakfast each morning. If you need a great place to stay near Charlottesville, the High Meadows Vineyard Inn is fantastic.

Owners Nancy and Cynthia Bruce, an exceptional mother-daughter team, paid careful attention to every detail: delicious "made from scratch" breakfasts, warm and friendly hospitality, pleasant conversation, plenty of goodies, teas and hot chocolates, and clean rooms! Inn decor is fun and funky, and our room was truly comfortable. Inn is conveniently located -- easy drive to Charlottesville, UVA, Monticello, Ashlawn, Carter Mountain, and several local vineyards. Highly recommend this wonderfully peaceful retreat!! We'll definitely revisit!!

High Meadows Vineyard Inn exceeded every expectation I held, even after reading many glowing reviews about the inn. Nancy and Cindy were charming hosts; Nancy inclusive and informative, Cindy sweet and a fantastic chef! My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights, and breakfast both mornings was truly delightful. We were completely blown away the first morning starting with fresh figs, peaches and freshly baked banana bread. Then we were served a vegetable frittata (made with eggs from on-site), bacon and breakfast potatoes. All served with wonderful coffee and fresh squeezed OJ. The next morning topped even my expectations when we were first served a half peach, simmered in liquor and topped with fresh cream. Possibly one of the most delectable dishes I have ever eaten. Then crepes filled with ricotta, topped with freshly made raspberry compote, served with bacon on the side. Outstanding. The rooms were gorgeous, clearly much thought put into each one, with individuality shining through making each one charming in its own way. Overall, a wonderful experience! We plan to visit again. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful weekend at the High Meadows Vineyard Inn. We stayed in the cottage suite and it was so cozy and relaxing. You absolutely feel like you are at home from the moment you arrive. We arrived way before the check in time and Nancy let us check in early and leave our things in the cottage while we explored the James River and the surrounding area. From the second you meet Nancy, you feel like you have known her forever and you can tell she absolutely loves what she does! She was so knowledgeable about the area and stuff to do, we were not lacking in activities. And the food! Cynthia does a remarkable job with everything she made. The flavors of the food and the combination of things she puts together were amazing!

The High Meadows Vineyard Inn exceeded our expectations in every respect. We highly recommend this outstanding inn to anyone wishing to enjoy time in the Scottsville, Virginia area, especially anyone going to visit the memorable Monticello, President Jefferson's home. The house is a wonderfully restored early 1800s property with some very unique features, particularly the fact that it is in fact two homes built at different times by the same original owner and later linked together. Each room has its own unique character and there is a separate guest house with two additional rooms. All rooms have private baths and at least a queen size bed. Nancy Bruce and her daughter Cynthia keep the B&B immaculate and take great pride in both their inn and in the care of their guests. Nancy was very engaging and personable and Cynthia proved herself to be a wonderful cook making us both dinner and breakfast meals that were as good as anything we could have had in any very fine restaurant, with the added touch of being home cooked. These wonderful inn-keepers added the personal touch of adjusting their serving of dinner to our schedule, which was influenced by a scheduled guided tour of Monticello early in the evening, necessitating an early dinner. In addition to the excellent maintenance of the house, the inn is beautifully landscaped, with paths to enjoy, a hammock and even a telescope available to enjoy the spectacular star view on clear evenings. The evening itself is worth a visit for city dwellers who rarely get to see such beautiful star fields. Our evening was so clear we were able to see several satellites passing overhead without any telescope or other aids. In short, we had an excellent stay at High Meadows due to the hospitality of the owners and the wonderful ambiance that is present at this inn, not to mention the excellent food. We commend it to anyone and are sure anyone spending an overnight there will come away very satisfied.

Aside from the lovely and comfortable cottage where we stayed, the food was exquisite. Cynthia Bruce is an artist who takes the time to learn what her guests want. The hardest part for me was being too full to finish my meal, but fortunately, my husband was up to the challenge. The innkeepers pay attention to every little detail and are quick to respond to each request, going above and beyond what's expected. We have decided we'll be going back to High Meadows every year.

Nancy was the sweetest person to us. She was very friendly and treated us like she had known us forever. They even arranged an early breakfast so my husband could get to work on Saturday morning. It was a very quiet relaxing weekend. We had an awesome time there! Thanks for everything! Maybe we will see you guys again someday.

This was the most wonderful weekend we could imagine - from the fresh and delicious breakfasts and the fantastic and friendly service to the light-filled rooms and expansive grounds. We strongly recommend the High Meadows Vineyard Inn!

Was traveling to one of Charlottesville's wineries for friends' wedding and stayed at the High Meadows Inn just 6 miles from the wedding. It seemed like a world away. The views were wonderful; the food was outstanding and Nancy, ever the perfect hostess, did everything possible to make the stay unforgettable. I hope I have reason to travel to the area again; I know exactly where I will be staying...High Meadows Inn. Wonderful, relaxing get-away from big city life; the little town of Scottsville was "country" friendly. The inn was truly a wonderful experience; one I hope I have the opportunity to repeat!

My wife and I visited Virginia a couple of weeks ago, and had the fortune to stay at The High Meadows Vineyard Inn. The house is very well appointed, Nancy has the perfect personality to be a hostess, and Cynthia’s cooking deserves a “cordon bleu”. We met friends, and had nowhere close by to take them for dinner. I had the brilliant idea to ask Nancy if we could dine at High Meadows, and the luck that they fixed dinner for us. The beautiful china and sterling silverware were only overshadowed by Nancy`s cuisine. I could go on, but I think that giving The High Meadows Inn the highest possible rating is enough. Dr. Julio A. We enjoyed a wonderful weekend at High Meadows. The house is a compilation of houses built from 1832-1892; we stayed in the "Robin's Nest" room on the 2nd floor. Exceptional linens, tasteful decor, bucolic setting, and OUTSTANDING food! The breakfasts were superior to any we've ever had at any other B & B! On the 13 acres, there were cats (outside), peacocks, chickens, bunnies, a small vineyard, a pond, and very friendly innkeepers. Our only concern; our antique bed had a modern boxspring that didn't quite fit, hence it SQUEAKED if you even rolled over, much less anything else. We were told that it was the only bed that hadn't been "redone" and plans were in the works to lengthen the frame. We had breakfast on a beautiful patio and drinks in a slightly lit gazebo. We enjoy the Charlotttesville area and will visit Nancy and her daughter Cynthia (incredible chef) as soon as we can and look forward to trying each of the beautiful rooms.

My husband and I just got home today from High Meadows. We had such a pleasant, peaceful time. Although we saw more of Nancy than we did of Cynthia (because she was busy creating culinary wonders), both ladies were delightful and they make you feel right at home. We will certainly visit again if we have the chance.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at High Meadows this past weekend. Nancy was very warm, welcoming and helpful. The food was fantastic and we would highly recommend having dinner at the Inn during your stay. High Meadows was a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of Northern VA life and we really enjoyed being out in the country. We would highly recommend this B&B to all of our friends and family.

My wife and I get away less often than we used to and we try to make the most of every trip. Our weekend at High Meadows was simply terrific and left us feeling we couldn't have picked a better place. Our room had a wonderful historic feel to it, and at the same time had first-rate modern amenities, European sheets that put to shame what my wife and I use at home, and the place was spotless. They didn't just throw our meals together - one of the innkeepers, Cindy Bruce, is a gourmet chef and it showed in everything we were served at breakfast each morning and at a candlelight dinner we had one night. At breakfast one day we even had an omelet made from eggs that were gathered just an hour earlier from chickens kept on the property. Talk about fresh! The grounds were surprisingly large, with picture-perfect vineyards, a charming small lake with ducks, winding paths through a wooded area, and some very pretty gardens. It also meant a lot to us that the innkeepers were very warm and thoughtful but they weren't at all intrusive; at times we felt like we practically had the place to ourselves. But when we wanted information about wine tours or restaurants, we didn't have to pull it out of them - they were extremely forthcoming with loads of advice, and everything they recommended turned out just the way we hoped. All in all, we felt it was an ideal B&B experience, and we plan on going back again next year.

My husband and I just returned from a lovely two days at the High Meadows Vineyard Inn. This was a first experience with a Bed and Breakfast for both of us, and I have to say, we both came away with a desire to make it a habit! The inn is lovely, cozy and friendly, without being stuffy. The innkeepers were the same, and the breakfasts were out of this world! It is a wonderful feeling to walk down to breakfast and be surprised with a beautiful table setting and food that both looked and tasted superb! The rooms were all very comfortable, beds you practically needed a step stool to climb into, lovely color schemes, carefully chosen antiques to complement each room's theme. And outside, a clever little collection of friendly companions, cats, chickens, and imagine my surprise to find the jewel colored peacock roaming around singing a mournful tune! We loved every part of our stay, and will return in the not too distant future. And, I should mention their extensive "library" of books and magazines to peruse in your leisure time. Wonderful!

The room I stayed in, an the others I was able to see, was beautiful and very comfortable. It exceeded my expectation. I loved that we were in the cottage, separate from the other guests. The food was delicious, and they are careful to meet dietary needs. They own peacocks, chickens, and several outdoor cats (which was not a problem for me even though I have a severe allergy to cats). What drew me to this B&B was that I was able to avoid the classic colonial feel. The room I stayed in was fresh and funky, yet elegant. Best of all Nancy was a wonderful hostess and when out of her way to accommodate our needs.

This was my first Bed and Breakfast experience, but I have no hesitation to give High Meadows aces around! Nancy was a gracious, engaging, and gregarious host. The rooms were top notch, with beds so comfortable you start dreaming before you're asleep. The food (especially the broiled grapefruit!) was delicious, and there's nothing like seeing the peacocks strutting back and forth across the lawns. I know I'll be going back!

The personalized service at Highmeadows was fantastic. When Nancy learned we were avid coffee drinkers she suprised us with freshly ground esspresso in our room. The food was delicious and our room, complete with a fire in the fireplace was very warm and inviting. This was the best getaway my boyfriend and I had spent together and the beauty and comfort of this B&B was a significant contribution to our amazing weekend.

My husband and I absolutely LOVED our weekend getaway for our 2 year anniversary at the High Meadows Vineyard Inn. The Daffodil room was so gorgeous and I loved the claw foot tub. Nancy couldn't have been more helpful and hospitable and her daughter is an AMAZING cook! The breakfast was sooo yummy! The overall ambiance of the inn was so incredible that I even wanted to wake up early just to enjoy it :)

My husband and I celebrated our 7 year wedding anniversary at the Inn. We stayed in the Dogwood Room, and enjoyed it immensely. Nancy greeted us with open arms and made us feel right at home. The breakfasts were amazing and we had an incredible dinner as well. I'd recommend High Meadows to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway in home away from home.

My husband and I highly recommend this charming, welcoming, "5" star Bed and Breakfast in Scottsville, VA. Our experience was one of personable service, excellent dining, embracing surroundings and lovely gardens. Nancy greeted us as "family" and was graciously charming and attentive to our needs --even if it was conversation. It was like stepping into a meticulously kept home of the 1800's. The decor was absolutely wonderful. The rooms were inviting and cozy. The meals were exceptional! Cynthia pulled out all the stops for breakfast and the dinner was a culinary delight--so delicious and certainly not the run of the meal choices! We highly recommend this lovely Bed and Breakfast. See my review on Yelp. In short, I am so happy we stayed here, and I should admit I was not looking forward to a B&B. My wife kind of dragged me there. But eitherway, I loved it!

Many special thanks from both of us to Cynthia for preparing last night's delicious dinner of lemon capers salmon, special salad before w/ the inn made vinaigrette, followed by a spiced baked seasonal pear; to Nancy who as always shared fun Inn stories about the farm animals (rabbits, newly arrived peacocks, miniature goat, etc.) and ongoing Scottsville activities; and to Ryan who was his usual charming self as skilled waitstaff. We recommend High Meadows Inn evening dining for folks staying in Scottsville who do not want to drive all the way to Charlottesville for dinner...the historical inn's country setting providing a grand evening of dining and memories.

We truly enjoyed our two night stay at this beautiful Inn tucked away on a pretty, windy road in Southern Virginia. Nancy Bruce is a lovely hostess, and Cynthia Bruce's cooking. One of our favorite parts was watching all the animals (bunnies, cats, peacocks, turkeys, and a goat) that live there frolick around in the yard. We stayed in the Cottage Suite, and it was very pretty and cozy.

My husband and I arrived at High Meadows and were greeted by Nancy at the door, given historic details about the Inn and shown about. Since we were the only guests that night, we were given a full tour, which was delightful. The room we chose was beautifully appointed. We slept in a very comfortable bed and awoke to a rooster crowing around 7 a.m., which was an added bonus! We met our host on the enclosed porch where we were to enjoy breakfast. Freshly brewed coffee and fresh-squeezed orange juice were waiting for us when we sat down, and a wonderfully executed breakfast soon followed. The food was delicious, fresh and plentiful! We took our time, chatting with Nancy and enjoying the beautiful view of the well-kept grounds, cats & peacocks. We will definitely return and recommend that anyone traveling in the Charlottesville/Scottsville area take advantage of this lovely Inn.

I am a big hotel by the ocean kind of guy. High Meadows hasn't completely converted me but I have to say - it was a very pleasant surprise. My wife and I spent two nights at the Robins' Nest room and enjoyed it tremendously. Service is great and Nancy and her family have a wonderful sense of detail (chocolates in the living room, Italian fruit drinks, chocolate covered strawberries etc.). We are thinking of going back . . .

"It is a truth universally acknowledged", that a family in need of a wonderful place to stay must stay at the High Meadows Inn! Just read that Cynthia loves Jane Austen! Did not know that when we stayed at the Inn a year ago for our daughter's graduation. The Inn is lovely and Nancy is a real gem! Love the cottage, really love the house with the candy dishes, sweet treats and coffee! Looking forward to a romantic getaway for just the two of us! Thank you!

I don't know how critical I can be since this was my first B&B experience, but here goes... High Meadows was the highlight of our vineyard tour throughout Virginia. There seems to be a definite emphasis on fun, happiness and simple sustainable pleasures. The food was simply amazing. The rooms were beautiful without being gaudy. The Innkeeper was not only a wealth of information but one of the nicest ladies I've ever met.

High Meadows Vineyard Inn was perfect for an anniversary weekend. Before we arrived, Nancy recommended wine tours to us and even helped us pick a restaurant for dinner in Charlottesville on our way to the Inn. There was tea and dessert when we arrived at the Inn late, wonderful breakfast the next morning, and absolutely beautiful grounds to wander around in. The room was beautiful with a king bed, bathtub, fireplace and elegant decorations. A really perfect place.

We had our daughter's wedding at High Meadows a few weeks ago and it was just perfect. The bridal party stayed at the Inn for the weekend, and they all had a great stay. We had the rehearsal dinner as well as the wedding on the grounds, and it was wonderful. Cynthia prepared the food for the wedding, and did a superb job. Nancy and Cynthia were so easy to work with and flexible with what we wanted to do. Highly recommend them for a wedding. BG

This was the first time we returned to an inn, but 15 year old memories enticed us. It was as wonderful, if not better, than the first time! Yes, there were incredibly beautiful changes in the inn and it's 15 acre ground. The new innkeepers were delightful and the food delicious. Everyone should stay here!

The rooms were extra cold. We turned up the heat in ours, but it didn't change.
We had one weekend in February where daytime temperatures were around 20 degrees. It was difficult to heat 'this old house', it is true, but... Every room is individually heated with baseboard heat, in addition to lovely 100% goosedown comforters. Each room also has a wool or cotton blanket. At checkin, on rare cold days such as this guest may have experienced, we try to emphasize the availability of extra space heaters for supplemental heat, if anyone wishes. And of course, if a guest does not let us know they are uncomfortable, we can not offer another room, or to provide more heat...which we gladly would have done! Our inn is antique - and has it's quirks, but all rooms can be maintained at 80 degrees if a guest so wishes. Common areas are kept at 65 degrees in Winter and 72 degrees in Summer. Most of all, we want our guests to be comfortable - please let us know of ANYTHING you need during your stay! Sincerely, Cynthia & Nancy Bruce

Drive only 2 hours from the Washington area and you will find yourself lost in a beautiful home away from home. This was our first experience at a B&B, I later told the boyfriend that he got himself into trouble because I never want to go into another hotel after staying here. We stayed for 3 nights in the Robin's Nest room. The bed was fantastic, there's a fire place (which was wonderful!), a stand up shower and each room has it's own thermostat so you are always comfortable. Breakfast is offered from 6-10 giving couples a nice window to eat in the morning depending on your person schedule and the food was absoultely wonderful; they even cater to food allergies! You also have the option of eating at the Inn, our dinner was filet, veggies, and potatoes, again, all fantastic. A mother and a daughter run the Inn together and they do a fantastic job; you truly feel like there is nothing in the world that matters expect for relaxing. It was also nice that there were dinner brochures of what was in town and the Inn set up a vineyard tour for us as well; also a great time! The house is warm and inviting, though the couches in the main room are nice to the eyes, they are not as comfortable to sit on. We personally spent more time in the back sunroom. The weekend was nothing short of perfect, I can't wait to go back again!!

We found High Meadows searching online and were intrigued by and attracted to it because of its restoration history. Anyone involved in restoring an old home should definitely visit High Meadows. They have good documentation, in word and pictures, of the process of renovation and restoration which we found facinating. We also just had a pleasant and relaxing time. Nancy made us feel immediately "at home". Both breakfasts we had were scrumptious. Hiking along paths through the woods around the Inn and strolling through the little town of Scottsville and along the James River was relaxing. Also, driving around to see the beautiful countryside, neighboring wineries, and historical sites made for a perfect weekend. We'll definitely go back to High Meadows Vineyard Inn!

We were looking for a special place for an anniversary get away and we found it! High Meadows Vineyard Inn is not too far from our home, on the edge of Scottsville, a town so full of history that it almost seems in another world. The Inn is an old home with a wonderful history, beautifully situated, delightfully restored, relaxing, comfortable, well appointed, spotless. We walked in and Nancy immediately made us feel at home. So relaxing. Then the breakfast, wow. It was so good, I do not know how it could have been better. I have been in the lodging business for 30 years and Nancy has got to be the best innkeeper I have ever met.

We spent a wonderful weekend at High Meadows. We stayed in the Peony room, which has a fire place, a 2 person whirl pool tub, and an amazing bed! Very comfy and cozy. One thing to note - there is no shower - only the tub. The inn was quaint and Nancy and Cynthia were very nice and accommodating. The food was outstanding! Lots to do in the area. We chose the wine tour package as well, which included a wonderful lunch. The tour guide was good...an hour late though...but very flexible and willing to travel to the various wineries of our choice. Overall, a wonderful trip! We'd definitely go back!

We just stayed at High Meadows for 3 nights and had a wonderful experience. The rooms were beautiful, I wish we could have stayed in them all. We did stay in the dogwood room, which was private and very sweet. Our food was amazing and Cynthia and Nancy helped us navigate around the city and wineries, totally enhancing our entire trip. I would recommend this wonderful bed and breakfast to anyone, anytime of year. There prices are unbelievable in the winter, take advantage of them, it is well worth it!

My boyfriend and I spent two nights here recently and absolutely loved it. I had been wanting to go on a trip to admire the autumn leaves and explore Charlottesville and thought staying in a B&B would add to the trip. Most of the B&Bs I saw in the area didn't seem that appealing – they looked like a Laura Ashley explosion with rooms named after Civil War generals. We're a young couple (mid-late 20s) and wanted something that didn't seem too stodgy or fussy and High Meadows really fit the bill. I was so impressed by how bright and cheerful all of the rooms were and that mood was definitely echoed in the owner Nancy's personality! She was such a wonderful hostess and went out of her way to make sure we had a fantastic visit. We arrived very late on our first night and she'd left us notes in our room to orient us and had a delicious spice cake set out for a late night snack after all of our traveling. We stayed in the Peony room and the king bed gave me the best night's sleep I've had in years. It was so piled high with featherbeds and other comforts that it was almost chest high! I really enjoyed taking bubble baths in the large tub and curling up in front of the crackling fireplace. One thing to know: the tub is in the middle of the room, not in the bathroom, so couples wanting more privacy while bathing (like those newly dating) may want to book a different room. The breakfasts were delicious and filling and incorporated eggs from the property's own chickens and ducks. Nancy also had a nice spread of teas and coffees and snacks that you could help yourself to throughout the day. I felt like I was staying at a friend's house. If I'm in the area again, I'll definitely go back!

My husband and I just returned from a 2-day weekend stay....we just wanted to get away from DC for the weekend, without any big plans. This place was perfect! Just a little south of Charlottesville, about a 2 1/2 hour drive for us. The Inn was interesting, as others have said, the history of the Inn made the stay feel special, but the updates and amenities appealed to the side of me that needed to feel pampered. Each room is unique; the bathrooms are small, as you can imagine in retrofitting a 100+ year old building. Actually, we were a little hesitant as the Inn was full for the weekend, so we took a room with a tub (no shower, although there was a handheld shower)...I thought this would be awkward, since the clawfoot tub is in the room, but in fact, a long soaking bath was one of my favorite parts of the weekend. Although the weather was hot, the room was cool and quite (central air in the main house). The Innkeepers had lots of info on what to do in the area (Wine tours, tubing on the river, Monticello), but mostly we just enjoyed the Inn. Breakfast was great! Daffodil Room recommended! Can't wait for another weekend escape!

My wife and I just returned from a 1 night getaway to the High Meadows Vineyard Inn. This was our 2nd visit, the 1st being 6 years ago when the Inn was owned and operated by different innkeepers. Wow, the new owners have done a wonderful job turning the Inn into an eclectic mix of of contemporary colors, antique furnishings, and interesting personal collections. Nancy was a delight and a gracious hostess. She personally gave us a tour of the entire Inn, showing us each room and pointing out the interesting pieces or collections in each that make the Inn both fun and comfortable. We also appreciate the Inn's efforts at being "green" and enjoyed seeing the small flocks of ducks and chickens roaming about the grounds (which are beautiful!). The Inn manages to be both elegant in appearance and furnishings while being informally comfortable at the same time -- there is no air of pretense here. We stayed in the "Robin's Nest" room, which in our opinion, was the prettiest and best decorated of them all. We'd highly recommend it for a romantic weekend away.. Also, a note regarding dining in Scottsville, which is limited. If you are looking for a good place to eat (not fine dining by any means), check out 330 Valley Street (the name of the restaurant and it's address) located just downtown across the street from the Citgo.

Nancy was a very gracious host. The house is extremely beautiful, and we loved how it was historic. The care they put into their landscape and yard is as wonderful as the care they put into the interior home and guests. The breakfast was superior. We would recommend this house to anyone.

My husband and I visited at February of 2008. Everything was absolutely wonderful. We would definitely stay there again.

Cynthia and Nancy must take the "breakfast" part of B&B very seriously. The first morning, I awoke to homemade belgian waffles with freshly whipped cream and fresh strawberries. The next morning featured homemade coffeecake, followed by a full eggs, potatoes and sausage breakfast! It was all the more enjoyable to know that each meal had been prepared using eggs from the chickens that were happily pecking around the grounds in the morning. My boyfriend and I came to visit over MLK weekend and it was freezing in Charlottesville, but Nancy and Cynthia made us feel warm and welcome. They even put a space heater in our room on the second night without our even having to ask! We were already cozy anyway, since we stayed in the Peony Room, which has its own fireplace, whirlpool bath and a cloud-like, featherbed-topped bed. We will definitely be back!

We stayed here for 3 nights over Valentine's Day and had a wonderful time. Nancy and Cynthia were wonderful hosts and willing to accommodate any request. We stayed in the Cottage Suite for 2 nights and enjoyed having breakfast in our own private kitchen overlooking the woods. The breakfast and homemade treats (cupcakes and cookies) were terrific! The rooms were beautiful and there was no better way to cap off a night than in front a nice warm fireplace. We'll definitely be back!

We stayed at High Meadows for Hampden Sydney College graduation weekend and had a lovely stay. Nancy served a yummy breakfast on the back porch. The beds were wonderful. Despite some remodeling, it posed no problem with our stay. We only wish we'd been able to stay a little longer.
