Ahhh! The perfect room for romantic relaxation! Actually it's two rooms! A queen size handmade bed with 8 foot column posts sets the classic tone of this beautiful, luxurious room with shower bath. The adjoining Sitting/Soaking room has a large double whirlpool tub in black granite surrounded by marble, in front of a gas fireplace. You might wish to step out onto your private balcony in our warm, fluffy robes while enjoying some excllent Virginia wine or champagne. This room, and balcony, overlook the Patio.
Savor this room! It was the Master's Suite where the owners of the plantation, Col. and Mrs. John Willis, spent their evenings. Their room is designed to honor his great uncle, President James Madison, and wife, Dolley. The ruby red wall covering was Dolley's choice for their bed drapes. The four poster king size bed is adjacent to the marble fireplace. A vintage claw foot tub with overhead shower and antique marble lavatory grace the bath. This spacious and very romantic room overlooks the pond.
Blooming magnolias, as you may see on the 10 very large magnolia trees of Mayhurst, cover the walls of this warm and inviting room. Enjoy the wood burning fireplace from the antique French queen size bed. The bath has a shower and an 1890 marble lavatory from Washington's Historic Willard Hotel. Overlooks the Patio and Rose Garden.
Looking as it might have in plantation days, this cheery blue and white room receives morning sun through a palladium window and overlooks the pond. Formerlly the Mayhurst Guest Room in the days of John Willis, this very large room is where "Stonewall" Jackson slept on August 6, 1862. He would have enjoyed the double whirlpool tub in front of the wood burning fireplace and the king size bed! Frequently used by bride and groom, the Southern Charm Room is made for romance.
This room is truly perfect for the Civil War or Victorain enthusiast. In honor of the three Confederate Civil War generals who have visited, stayed a night or stayed for the winter, Generals Lee, "Stonewall" Jackson, and A.P. Hill respectively, this queen bedded room has 1860 antiques and decor. The gas fireplace is surrounded by the original Italian black marble. Three 10 foot arch top windows shimmer with the original glass. This room overlooks the Patio, Gardens and spectacular, 150 year old, Boxwood Grotto.
Our Piedmont Suite is two rooms divided by the bathroom, which has a shower and tub. The romantic queen bedchamber with fireplace overlooks the Patio and gardens. Relax in the sitting room on the wicker daybed, or a big comfy chair with the in-room cable TV and VCR. Perfect for families, this suite can accommodate four.
Yellow, soft green and blue colors enhance this king bedded room with electric fireplace. This room has its own terrace outside a private entrance. Three deep window seats add to the easy, comfortable feel of this popular room. The spacious bathroom and shower are lined in green slate. This room and bathroom are ADA compliant and the bathroom features a no barrier, roll-in, shower. A great family room, it easily accommodates two roll away beds.
The original Mayhurst Plantation School House (c1837) is completely restored with all modern amenities. The perfect place for a romantic stay. School was NEVER like this. The Willis children likely sat through many a class in the "school house." Although they had the same fireplace, they didn't have central air and heat, a full bath, kitchen, and a queen size bed. Guests can choose to enjoy all the amenities of the Manor House and enjoy their nights in the privacy and warmth of their own "class room." The perfect place to start the Honeymoon or enjoy an Anniversary!
The Mayhurst Library is the prime gatering spot for evening wine, cheese, soft drinks and snacks. Filled with antique furniture, decorated in the Victorian style of the 1850s, and warmed by a large fireplace, it is a guest favorite. Filled with books describing the History of our nation, the world, and local history. Guests can read, watch Cable TV, or use the VCR/DVD player. A real hot spot during the Super Bowl and other playoff games.

A wonderful experience and delightful get away. The breakfasts were superb, and evening wine selections outstanding, pared with lovely cheese and crackers, and conversation. Our hosts, Jack and Pat were extremely well verse in the area history and activities and most helpful in all aspects of making us feel welcome and comfortable.

The house was beautiful, the proprietors friendly, interesting, and accommodating. Breakfasts were amazing and accompanied by soft classical music that started off each day so peacefully. Best of all, they are well-versed in accommodating food allergies (mine are corn, soy, and gluten). Would absolutely stay there again.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Mayhurst. This was our second weekend there. Pat and Jack do a great job as hosts, from the food to the warm welcome. We can't wait to return next year!!! Jim and Kathy

This was our 9th visit to the Maryhurst Inn. It is a special place that my husband and I go to once a year for rest and relaxation. We love the history of the place, the owners are gracious and down to earth and there is much to do in the regional area. We have shared this special place with friends and family. We hope to keep up with our tradition of a yearly visit to the Mayhurst Inn!
