Mayhurst is much more than a Perfect Getaway. Located in the heart of Historic Virginia the Manor House is a magnificent 9200 Sq. Ft. Italianate Victorian gem built in 1859 and is renowned for its architecture and oval-spiral staircase. Situated on 37 acres of lawn, gardens, fields and forest Mayhurst is filled with history and romance. When you stay at Mayhurst you will enjoy true Southern Hospitality and be treated as honored guests, just as Generals Lee, "Stonewall" Jackson and A.P. Hill were. Mayhurst is located amidst 3 Presidential Mansions, 6 Civil War Battlefields, 10 of Virginia's finest Wineries and over 15 excellent restaurants. Guests are treated to fine Virginia wines, cheese, soft drinks and snacks each evening, full, plantation style 3 course breakfasts each morning and the finest concierge service available. Our 8 stately guest rooms have private baths and are designed to pamper you with amenities including: king or queen beds, luxury linens, fine chocolates, special toiletries, free WiFi, bottled water and central heat and air. There are also working fireplaces in 7 of 8 guest rooms plus Jacuzzis and warm fluffy robes and slippers in selected rooms. Mayhurst is the perfect place for a romantic getaway, a quiet weekend away from the "daily grind", a gateway to fun and adventure and the place to enjoy the best of Southern Hospitality.
Savor this room as if you were the master and mistress of the plantation, Col. and Mrs. John Willis - they did. Their room is designed to honor John Willes' great uncle President James Madison and wife, Dolley. The ruby red wall covering was Dolley's choice for their bed drapes. The four poster king size bed is adjacent to the marble fireplace. A vintage claw foot tub with overhead shower and antique marble lavatory grace the bath. This spacious and very romantic room overlooks the pond.
Today that gently sloping, rolling pastoral land at the base of the Blue Ridge is known as the Piedmont. Mayhurst was a 2800 acre Piedmont plantation. Our Piedmont Suite is two rooms divided by the bathroom, which has a shower over the tub. The romantic queen bedchamber with fireplace is on the quiet third floor. Relax in the sitting room on the wicker daybed, or a big comfy chair with the in-room cable TV and VCR/DVD player.
The original Mayhurst Plantation School House (c1837) is completely restored with all modern amenities. The perfect place for a romantic stay. School was NEVER like this. The Willis children likely sat through many a class in the "school house." Although they had the same fireplace, they didn't have central air and heat, a full bath, kitchen, and a queen size bed. Restorations were completed in September 2004. Guests can choose to enjoy all the amenities of the Manor House and enjoy the nights in the privacy and warmth of their own "class room" or the kitchen can be stocked for their own use. Virginia Wine or Champagne can be included to make a perfect stay even better.
Named in honor of the three Confederate Civil War generals who visited, stayed a night or stayed for the winter at Mayhurst. Generals Lee, "Stonewall" Jackson, and A.P. Hill Allenjoyed this room. This queen bedded room has 1860 antiques and decor and an antique marble lavatory from the Williard Hotel. The gas fireplace is surrounded by the original Italian black marble. Three 10 foot arch top windows shimmer with the original glass. The private bathroom has a shower.
Like a garden cottage of the 1930's in yellow, soft green and blue, this king bedded room with electric fireplace has its own terrace outside a private door. The exposed ceiling beams predate the home and were reused from a tobacco barn. The spacious bathroom and shower are lined in green slate. Three deep window seats add to the easy, comfortable feel of this popular room. The entire room and bathroom is ADA compliant featuring a large, no barrier, roll-in shower and heavy duty hardware.
Blooming magnolias as you may see on the 10 very large magnolia trees of Mayhurst cover the walls of this warm and inviting room. Enjoy the wood burning fireplace from the antique French queen size bed, o rsit and relax next to other period furniture pieces.
Looking as it might have in plantation days, this cheery blue and white room receives morning sun through a palladium window and overlooks the pond. "Stonewall" Jackson slept in this room on August 6, 1862. He would have enjoyed the double whirlpool tub in front of the wood burning fireplace and the king size bed!
Ahhh! The perfect room for romantic relaxation! Actually it's two rooms. A queen size handmade bed with 8 foot column posts sets the classic tone of this beautiful, luxurious room with shower bath. The adjoining Sitting/Soaking room has a large double Jacuzzi tub in black granite surrounded by marble, in front of a gas fireplace. You might wish to step out onto your private balcony in our robes or enjoy a private massage in the sitting room or on the balcony.

A truly charming house steeped in history and located close to historical sites and wonderful wineries. Room was beautiful (Madison Suite). The owners, Pat and Jack, could not have been nicer. Breakfast was excellent, the best eggs benedict ever and more than enough food to tide us over through a day of historical plantation and winery visits. Evening wine and cheese consisted of local wines and excellent premium cheeses and great company. Can't wait for a return visit!

Truly exceptional bed and breakfast. The owners/hosts are gracious and thoughtful and know the area quite well. If you are looking for a quiet romantic gateway during the week, this is it. They have a option for a elegant, gourmet home cooked meal with wine pairing for each course, very good.

I discovered this B&B in 2005 and it was a great find. My wife and I have stayed at the Mayhurst 4 times now and each time is a better experience. Pat & Jack are great owners and terrific hosts. We've stayed in a different room each time and which are all very comfortable and unique. Lots to do in the area in regards to history, antiques, and wineries as well as great local restaurants. However, one can not miss the superb breakfast in the morning and the wine & cheese get together every afternoon at 5:30. Mary Pat & Wayne, Hendersonville, N.C.

Stayed at Mayhurst for the first time this past Fri. 11/2/2012 and Sat. 11/3/2012, in order to see the Montpelier Races near Orange, VA. From start to finish, Owners Jack and Pat North made our stay an absolute pleasure. Very smooth process, very professional, warm and caring people. Genuine. We stayed in the Madison room, and slept like rocks both nights in the very quiet home. Breakfast both days was very, very good. Pat and Jack make it look easy, and what they do so well cannot be easy without a lot of attention to detail and a lot of thought about how to make guests have a relaxing visit. We just got home to Northern Virginia yesterday (about 80 miles from Orange) and have already made reservations at The Mayhurst Inn for next year's racing. Don't miss the two miles or so of mowed grass walkways through the property. There is a lot of beautiful scenery in the area. We've stayed in 'nice' B&Bs before in New England, Maryland, and Virginia, and cannot remember a place or hosts we liked better.

We loved the school house accommodation which was pet friendly and located about 100 yards from the main house. Enjoyed the evening wine, cheese and conversation in the main house. Hosts, Pat and Jack, were very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were delicious and bountiful. Visiting Mayhurst Inn was beautiful. Felt like stepping back in time.

We have made over 10 visits to the Maryhurst Inn for many events such as UVA graduation ceremony to celebrating birthday/anniversary times. It is consistently a quality experience with so many things to do or just doing nothing and relaxing. Pat and Jack North are wonderful hosts. We highly recommend a visit to the Maryhurst!

Our stay at Mayhurst was GREAT! The service and food were fantastic. Pat and Jack exceeded our expectations. The location away from the road made it very quiet. The period pieces throughout the Inn were tastefully selected and placed. The only minor complaint was the room in front of the toilet was a little snug. Overall, a strong recommend.

A great stay with great hosts. Jack and Pat were so helpful putting together a weekend to remember for our anniversary. Great recommendations for special dinner and things to do in the area during day and night. Peaceful surroundings and at night you could imagine what it was like to be there in the 19th Century--nothing but the sound of the cicadas. Conversation with our hosts ranged from civil war history, historical construction, to what's new in the area. Had a wonderful time.
