My husband took me here for our 21st wedding anniversary. Phil and Ann are gracious hosts. The Christmas decorations are breathtaking. Service was excellent. We stayed in the Magnolia Suite and it was perfect. The room had many special touches from water, snacks, and chocolates. Each space downstairs was unique and decorated beautifully. When you go, ask Ann to see her paintings. Amazing!!

We celebrated our 25 wedding anniversary here. Having never been to a bed-and- breakfast before, this was a very good experience. The inn is clean and uniquely decorated. Each room was an adventure unto itself with its own decorations yet tastefully done. Phil and Ann greeted us as guests but we came away as friends. We have recommended Federal Crest to other family members and friends. They have had the same experience. We have returned there a few times since our anniversary as a means to “run away from home”!

Rooms are of a very good size and have sitting areas. Some rooms have nice porches. Hostess very accommodating. Breakfast creative, delicious, plentiful. Would certainly return if near Lynchburg.

We stayed at the Federal Crest Inn last week, and thoroughly enjoyed the Inn and the Lynchburg area. Our hosts, the Ripleys, were very gracious, and helped us with sightseeing and dining recommendations. The breakfast were excellent, and accommodated our dietary restrictions. Our room was very elegant and comfortable, with plenty of room. We especially enjoyed the pot of coffee ready each morning for us early risers, and lounging on the front porch until breakfast was served. We highly recommend this B&B.

Although we were an unexpected arrival, our hosts, Phil and Ann, welcomed us as if we were long awaited special guests! The inn is beautifully appointed with great attention to detail and the comfort of her guests. All of the rooms are furnished with beautiful antiques and the handpainted walls in the bathrooms add a touch of additional whimsy and warmth. Breakfast was not only delicious and plentiful but beautifully presented with fresh flowers dressing the plates. We have stayed in many bed and breakfasts over the years, but this had to be one of our very best experiences! Highly recommended!

My husband and I have stayed here three times now and love it more each time we are there. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and Ann & Phil are so welcoming & kind. The home is beautifully adorned and each room is filled with charm, elegance but it also warm and inviting. The breakfast is always delicious and time spent in the home, enchanting. This is such a special place for us and we hope to return as much as possible.

My wife and I stayed one night and had such a delightful time, we extended our trip another night. The house is absolutely beautiful both in it's turn-of-the-century architecture and interior decor. The antique furniture, hardwood floors, and fireplace in the room made it the perfect romantic getaway. The Innkeepers, Ann and Phil, could not have been more friendly and accommodating (even making a gluten-free breakfast for me). The dining room was very elegant and made for a wonderful backdrop for a yummy breakfast! I would highly recommend it to anyone and we hope to return.

What a wonderfully relaxing stay we had at the Federal Crest Inn. The working fireplace in the beautiful Dogwood room made for a romantic and memorable setting.

On a recent trip to Virginia my sister and I were lucky enough to find this beautiful bed and breakfast. I can't remember when I had a more enjoyable stay away from home. Federal Inn is a beautifully restored mansion that is more like a gracious home than an Inn. The Innkeepers, Phil and Ann Ripley have filled the rooms with beautiful antiques that are both inviting and comfortable. Our physical needs were met by the charming surroundings, but, due to the Ripley's gracious warmth and the Southern hospitality they showed us, we felt like pampered and special guests. What a delight after a grueling business meeting and hammering down the highway in order to get there! Breakfast was a five star event with perfect eggs benedict garnished with pretty flowers from Ann's garden and home made muffins! We did not want to leave! I plan on returning to this beautiful spot and bringing my Massachusetts husband, so that he too can relax in this elegant Inn/ B and B, and experience genuine, old fashioned hospitality.

My daughter and I were on college visits in Virginia and had a wonderful stay here. The house is lovely and has so many neat details, furnishings and paintings. The hosts, Ann and Phil, are so warm and friendly. The room was at the same time both spacious and cozy with its roaring fireplace and inviting decor, many things beautifully hand-painted by Ann. We loved staying in the Dogwood room. Ann's breakfast was delicious and had so many wonderful "finishing touches" to the food and the table. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer! Definitely a place we will return to and will recommend to anyone who is traveling to or through the Harrisonburg/Charlottesville/Lynchburg/Blacksburg corridor.

I had a great weekend at the Federal Crest Inn. The atmosphere was very friendly and accommodating. I love antique furniture and this inn had great taste in it's choices and arrangements. The room was warm and clean with a welcoming fire place and comfortable bed. The breakfast brought back memories of those wonderful home cooked meals, the way that Grandma used to prepare. The table was arranged with lots of throught and attention to detail. The inn is full of incredible art work by the owner with a story behind each one. I enjoyed going through the hall and up the stairs taking in all the paintings. I did not get to meet Phil, since he was out of town, but felt that Ann and I had been friends forever. I'll definitely go back.

Staying at the Federal Crest Inn was the 'ideal' bed and breakfast experience. Stunning house, comfortable rooms (with fireplace!), and gracious hosts. Highly recommended!

Upon returning to Tennessee from Williamsburg, VA, we, four friends decided to stop in Lynchburg to see Poplar Forest. We spent the night at the Federal Crest Inn. It was the highlight of our trip. Ann and Phil were gracious inn keepers of a beautiful home. We were welcomed in the drive by a Jack Russel terrier who was very glad to see us. It was just the beginning of a lovely overnight stay. Rooms were wonderful with comfortable beds, beautiful decor, and working fireplaces to ward off the chill. There are nooks and seating areas for conversation or just curling up with a book and some peace and quiet. Breakfast was delicious and Phil kept the coffee cups filled. We had enjoyable conversation and enjoyed meeting others at the breakfast table. The dining room was decorated for fall with bright color and really put us in the mood for the season. We hope to return to Lynchburg and do the antique scene later in the year. We will definately stay at the Federal Crest Inn again. Four friends from Nashville

Visited this amazing B&B as a surprise anniversary trip planned by my husband. I was impressed with the fine details and the wonderful company provided by Ann and Phil. The accomodations were outstanding and comfortable and our 3 days were made so enjoyable by personable service with details like chocolates on the pillows in the evening and fresh flowers to decorate your breakfast plate. The food was excellent and all amenities were provided so all we needed to do was sit back in the front porch rocking chair and enjoy our stay. Beds & pillows are too hard and uncomfortable - couldn't sleep all night. Innkeepers friendly but monopolize all conversations! Dusty in rooms and bad for allergies.

My husband and I spent three nights at the Federal Crest Inn and were very pleased with the whole experience. The inn was centrally located so that we were able to make day trips to many of the sites we had come to see. This was a major reason we had chosen to stay in Lynchburg, and we could not have been luckier in our choice of B&Bs. In addition to its central and convenient location, the breakfasts were superb, the rooms large and comfortable and the hosts very knowledgeable and helpful. If we ever return to Lynchburg, we would not hesitate to stay here again.

My mother and I attended Grandparent's Weekend at VES and were thrilled with our last minute B&B find. With a working fireplace in our large suite, comfy linens and fine chocolates on the bed stand, we slept better than well! The Federal Crest Inn is a delightful bed and breakfast that is certain to exceed your expectations! My wife and I just returned from the inn having spent Valentine's weekend in Lynchburg. The innkeepers are wonderfully kind and inviting. They welcomed my wife and I with a cup of hot chocolate and cookies! We selected the Magnolia Suite which is beautifully decorated and, like most rooms at the inn, has a fireplace. It was a perfect setting to relax together with the cozy fire creating a warm atmosphere. The breakfast is delectable! Unlike the standard fare at many B&Bs the breakfast are thoughtfully prepared and exceed restaurant quality! The entire experience was like taking a step back in time to the luxurious life of an early twentieth century aristocrat! I would recommend the Federal Crest Inn to any traveler seeking an opulent setting for a relaxing vacation!

Federal Crest Inn is the most outstanding place we have ever stayed. It's our first experience with a B&B but hopefully will not be our last.

We stayed at Federal Crest in Lynchburg, Virginia for the two nights of September 26 and 27, 2009. It was our first B & B experience and future stays at other places will have to match a high standard! The accommodations were clean and obviously well kept. We stayed in the Magnolia suite and the suite was tastefully decorated and comfortable. Because we were to be away from home and family for almost a week, we found the available wireless internet very helpful. Breakfast each morning was a lot of fun. Our hosts were present and attentive to every need, and the guests we met were all fine people. The conversation rambled from travel to grand kids to dogs to theology to farm critters and whether there are enough goats in America to eradicate kudzu. Ann runs the kitchen and the meals were tasty, well presented, and of copious amounts. Phil was always nearby in the dining room and served graciously and tactfully. Phil and Ann Ripley were just fabulous hosts. Beyond the high level of quality they brought to the food and accommodations side of the business, they are both engaging, well informed people who obviously enjoy their work and meeting new people. Ann is a very talented artist and her work appears at various places throughout the house. Prior to retirement Phil worked in a number of places and brings a wealth of detailed knowledge to the conversation – along with a wry sense of humor! His ability to give precise directions to various places in the Lynchburg area was very helpful. Our stay in Lynchburg was prompted by a work assignment that took us there so we tagged a few days of vacation onto the backside of the working trip. Our only regret about the trip was being there about three weeks ahead of the fall colors. We hope to make it back to stay again some time when it is peak season for viewing the seasonal change in foliage.

The inn itself had so much to explore as well as amenities to make you relax and feel comfortable. Great food and the hosts were delightful.

As I sit down to write this review, I have been at the Federal Crest for three weeks-I am going home tomorrow. Part of me is sad that this is the case, because I have had such a wonderful time here in Lynchburg. I have been attending classes and working on my doctorate at Liberty. I chose to stay at the Federal Crest because I thought it would be more comfortable and hospitable than a regular hotel, and I was right. My hosts, Ann and Phil, have been more gracious than I could have imagined, and I feel as if I have become one of the family. From my very first day, they were more than willing to assist me with anything I needed-from simple directions to just letting me vent about my day! My room was spacious, clean and well equipped. If I needed anything that was not already in the room, all I had to do was ask. Even the girls who cleaned my room were friendly and eager to please. The house is filled with artwork by Ann, beautiful woodwork, and comfortable furnitrue. I will most definitely return; not only because of the lovely accomodations but also because of the wonderful friendship I have formed. I highly recommend the Federal Crest to everyone. Whether you are traveling for leisure or business, it is truly a home away from home.

Exceptional- exceeds expectations. This is a way-above average B&B. I am a business traveler and decided to treat myself and stay in a historic turn of the century beautiful Greek revival home. The pampering, gourmet breakfasts and authentic elegant surroundings knocked me out!

I travel weekly for my job and was thrilled to discover this jewal B&B! Clean, beautiful historic home. Well maintained. Amazing landscaping and grounds. Phil and Ann's attention to detail in every room is lovely.

It is a magnificent place to stay if one is traveling thru the central Virginia-Lynchburg area of the state. Historical downtown Lynchburg is just down the hill with Liberty University a short drive away. Remember the Federal Crest Inn if you are in the central Virginia-Lynchburg area. We have stayed at many B&B's but Ann's breakfast is without question - the very best! (We had three (3) mornings!) In addition, the decor and wonderful welcome was great! Very close to historic sites. Great advise from Ann and Phil. A MUST VISIT!

Our stay at The Federal Crest Inn was both relaxing and exciting. We enjoyed the beautiful Victorian features of the old inn but found the company to equally as meaningful. We enjoyed the relaxed conversations as well as the cozy accomodations.

As previous B&B owners, we are very Particular about where we stay. This is our 3RD visit ti Ann and Phil's place. As always we enjoyed our stay. They are very gracious, friendly hosts. Served a delicious breakfast in a delighful setting.

This was our second visit here. One of most elegant B&B's we've ever stayed in and the owners made us feel like family! Would recommend to anyone.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Ann and Phil, and highly recommend it for other travelers. Ann gave us the "Cook's Tour"...the Inn is truly special. Comfortable room (the Dogwood) with fireplace, tasteful decor throughout, and an excellent breakfast. We also enjoyed our visit to nearby Bedford to see the National D-Day Memorial.

Ann and Phil were superb hosts and provided a home from home. Lynchburg is a quiet town but the surrounding area is well worth the visit. The Federal Crest Inn was a beautiful building but we didn't feel overawed (even though we're used to somewhat smaller places in the UK!). We would be happy to stay again.

On my Birthday weekend, my husband surprised me with a get-a-way to the Federal Crest... and I must say, it was just delightful! The adornment is brilliant and the natural beauty of the house has been cherished. Mr. and Mrs. Ripley are charming hosts and we very much enjoyed our conversations. The breakfast atmosphere is cozy and the food is just delicious... we will definitely return!!
