The perfect gift for every occasion

  • Arriving at 1868 Magnolia House Inn, you will stroll through our constantly changing cottage garden to the welcoming front porch.
Enjoy freshly brewed coffee before breakfast; take a mug with you to the Parlor, out on one of the porches, or back to your room.
Varied breakfast menus always include fresh fruit, orange juice, and coffee--besides the main course, which may be Eggs Benedict, Blueberry French Toast, an Omelet filled with cheese, ham, scallions and tomatoes, or some other tasty treat. In colder months, a fire burns on the dining room hearth, while in warmer weather, the windows open to views of the garden.
Azaleas bloom in the side garden in late April and early May.
The parlor is furnished with an oriental rug and classic-yet-comfortable furniture surrounding the working fireplace with its polished brass fender and brass candlesticks and objects on the mantle. A massive cherry bookcase--with its collection of antique books, and vintage family photos--dominates the room.
Our deluxe Lexington Room offers a gracious period ambiance with a leather wing chair and a settee/chaise, a king four-poster bed, a gas log fireplace, and a Jacuzzi bath--all with first floor convenience, Wi-Fi access and air conditioning.
The Sunshine Room is bright with pale yellow walls, and classic with oriental rugs, a pair of wing chairs for comfortable reading, a queen bed, private bath, Wi-Fi and air conditioning.
Hunting prints on the walls and a huntboard beneath the mirror set the theme for the main room of the Equestrian Suite. An antique coverlet hangs beside the four-poster bed, while a recliner and oversized chair flank the gas-log fireplace. Shades of burgundy and green, and a reproduction Empire barrister bookcase lend classic grace. One of two suites, the Equestrian also has a second room, decorated with country pieces, and a private porch, as well as a private bath with a shower/tub combo.

An example of the Shenandoah Victorian style, the house boasts high ceilings, tall windows, many fireplaces, and several porches. Guests may enjoy the parlor, the dining room, the Hospitality Room—stocked with cold drinks and snacks, including Jan's homemade cookies—and the front porches on both levels overlooking the garden. Enhanced with antiques and traditional furnishings, the inn reflects the gracious warmth of Victorian elegance, combined with the casual comforts of today. Located on Main Street in Lexington's Historic District, Magnolia House Inn is a short walk from the quaint downtown restaurants and shops, the Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson Memorials, the campuses of both Washington and Lee University and Virginia Military Institute, and the Lexington Visitors center. Nearby are the Virginia Horse Center, Natural Bridge, and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

    Honeymoon

    June 04, 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Mangolia inn the first night of our honeymoon. We stayed in the Lexington Room which has a king size bed that is very very comfortable. The innkeeper was great and accommodated our late arrival. The food was beautiful and tasty. We enjoyed our stay.

    Quant, comfortable stay...and gourmet!

    July 09, 2011

This was our first stay at the Magnolia House. It was quaint, historic and beautiful. It was very clean. Beds were quite comfortable. The A/C dealt with the muggy heat quite well. Our rooms were well-maintained, albeit a bit dark, however, this is typical of old houses. Breakfast was a very large portion and over-the-top with taste. The 'hospitality' amenity room was a welcome surprise with drinks, water, and snacks for free. The grounds were well-manicured. The innkeepers were very attentive, hospitable, and helpful. We highly recommend this B&B to those visiting the Lexington area.

    Lovely, comfortable getaway!

    November 08, 2010

We enjoyed a very comfortable night's stay October 24th in the Sunshine room - the room was so cozy and romantic, all the details of the room were well-thought-out w/ the attached bathroom the same. We loved the feel of history throughout the house and the breakfast was divine!! Russ and Mary Stuart made us feel right at home during our brief stay. We'd definitely stop there again!

Great stay at the Magnolia House Inn

    October 18, 2010

Tim & Jan are very gracious innkeepers! This is our 3rd visit back to the Magnolia House and would highly recommend it for anyone staying in Lexington. (Also the towels and linens were very soft.)

Magnolia House like being at home

    October 06, 2010

Our stay at the Magnolia House was fabulous. Besides a B&B having accommodation for our son, which is unusual in a B&B, the service was excellent. Tim and Jan made us feel right at home. There were many sitting areas/porches to enjoy. The fresh baked cookies 24 hours a day were a delight to my son. Will definately return.
