My husband and I decided to take a mini honeymoon in the Shenandoah before returning to our grueling federal government schedule. What a gem this place was! Our new-found friends, the innkeepers, Paul and Candice were the most attentive, sweet, and knowledgeable people. Dr. Wayne Engle, the owner, is a marvel among men. You'll understand when you meet him! And can I just say BREAKFAST!!!?? Absolutely incredible. I have traveled the world, and eaten in the street stalls of Southeast Asia to the world renowned restaurants of Paris, Tuscany, Dubai, Tokyo, and the Hague and Paul's eggs Benedict tops most of them. We also got massages and the wine and cheese package. Great wine...good cheese. What we really loved about this place, is that you can do as much or as little as you want to. We went horseback riding at the Star B Stables, great fun! Had dinner at Clementine’s, L'Italia, and the Chop House, all very good. We even sat out for an evening and had cigars and wine out on the patio with Paul, Candice, and their new intern. THAT'S how much we loved them! There is also a delightful new addition to downtown Harrisonburg that my husband and I were thrilled to patron. Jimmy Madison's .....a bourbon bar. That's right....for two bourbon connoisseurs, it doesn't get much better than that. The highlight of our trip was our wine tasting tour. We visited Barrenridge, Bluestone, and Cross Keys. All lovely. FANTASTIC wine. We hired a town car to drive us on the wine tour which Paul was delighted to do for us. If you decide to do the same...ask for Delila. She was our driver, and she was phenomenal. Our room was always clean and freshened up. We were always able to find someone if we needed something, and we were treated like family from the second we walked through the door. We will be counting the days here in Northern VA until we are able to go back, as we plan to make this a regular getaway spot. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay!

A well run B&B with perhaps the best breakfast anyone could ask for. Good location with places to eat nearby. Yes we would recommend this B&B and may return.

My husband and I went to the Stonewall Jackson Inn for a long weekend away to celebrate our anniversary. The Inn was beautifully decorated, very comfortable and friendly. We really enjoyed mornings on the back deck eating our breakfast. The sunrise was amazing to watch! The location of the Inn is perfect. We were able to enjoy the great restaurants in downtown Harrisonburg, as well as civil war battlefields, Cross Key winery and Grand Caverns all within 30 minutes. Since we were there near Halloween time, we also stopped in on several haunted activities, including a walking tour through downtown Harrisonburg to hear ghost stories about some of the old buildings. It was so much fun

Wanting to split our usual 8 hour northern trip in half, my husband found the Stonewall Jackson Inn on line and decided it was time to try a B & B. After phoning and talking with Cassandra, he was impressed by her friendliness, descriptions and assurances of the spectacular visit we would experience. She was absolutely correct! From the warm welcome, tour of premises and property, we were ensconced in the lovely and very comfortable Belle Boye room. Central air control in our room was superb, all amenities in room were perfect. The staff in the morning, while preparing a delicious and unique meal, made us feel as if we were old friends! We enjoyed our experience so much that we stopped again one week later on our way back south.
We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us - enough so to stop and stay with us on your way back! We are very lucky to have Kass - so genuinely welcoming and knowledgeable about the inn and the area, as well. Our staff strives to make sure you have a welcoming, memorable experience, and know that we have succeeded when you feel like our friends! Please join our family again, soon to enjoy our hospitality and wonderful amenities!

My husband and I spent the weekend at this charming inn. We love B&B's, and this was the 24th inn that we have stayed in. We had a wonderful time touring vineyards, and tasting wine. We stayed in the Joshua Chamberlain room on the first floor. The room was lovely, and very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The inn is located near several vineyards, a lavender farm, and wonderful restaurants. Breakfast on the back porch was really something special. We had croissant french toast with bacon and a fruit parfait the first morning, and fluffy vegetable omelets, bacon, hash browns, with homemade sausage gravy on biscuits the second day, along with a fruit parfait, and delicious coffee. I will say that the breakfast was one of the best we have ever had. Thank you Wayne, Jonathan and Julie for your hospitality. You have a magic touch! We are looking forward to visiting again! Geoff and Kim
Thank you for taking the time to write your wonderful review of our inn after your recent wine tasting weekend! We're so happy that you enjoyed our hospitality, comfortable accommodations and the staff's assistance to point you in the right direction for the wineries and restaurants. And not to mention, the Lavender Farm - what a great find, and hope you are enjoying your scents you took home. The breakfast on the deck is the perfect way to start your day, and so glad you enjoyed Paul's famous biscuits and signature sausage gravy - decadent, but delicious! We hope that you will give us the opportunity again soon to provide you with another memorable experience.

My wife recently treated me to a surprise birthday "getaway" weekend at the Stonewall Jackson Inn, in historic Harrisonburg Virginia, smack dab in the middle of the beautiful and historic Shenandoah Valley. Wayne, our Innkeeper, and his professional and friendly staff, Jonathan and Cassandra, made the weekend wonderful. The Stonewall Jackson Inn is a lovingly restored late victorian mansion and the rooms are gorgeous (we stayed in the Stonewall Suite). Based on the staff's suggestion, we dined at the wonderful "Chop and Grill", where not only was the food great but our server explained that most of the selections were locally grown and in season foods. In the morning, we were treated to Eggs Benedict d'Wayne..Mmmmm on the sunny veranda. My wife Rochelle enjoyed our bedding so much we ended up purchasing a set of the sheets! (the best I've ever slept on) A delightful stay with delightful folks in a charming and historic B&B.
Let me take this opportunity to wish you a belated birthday! What a wonderful way to spend your special day, and don't we all LOVE surprises, especially when it is something as wonderful as a stay at our inn!! I think I speak for all the staff, including Wayne, that we are so fortunate to have such a beautiful property to share with our guests, and especially fortunate to have Jonathan and Cassandra to take care of all their needs. Our location within a short walk to Historic Downtown with so many great restaurants to chose from, not to mention unique shops, add up to the perfect getaway. Thank you for being our guests, and we wish you many peaceful, restful slumbers on your new sheets! Hope to see you again, soon!

We had a wonderful night stay at the Inn. The staff warmly welcomed us and took care of all our needs. I was unable to make this website' stars work correctly, but it was a 5 star stay in every respect for a B and B. we stayed upstairs in the Jeb Stewart room and it was very quiet. The breakfast was delicious and beautifully presented.
Thank you for expressing your pleasure regarding your stay with us. It is our pleasure to know that you felt warmly welcomed by our staff - complete with heartfelt hugs! We believe that as soon as you enter the inn, you become one of our extended family, and we do our best to ensure your stay is special and memorable - what better way than to prepare "a breakfast to remember" for you to enjoy. We hope that you will be our guest again, and possibly stay with us for more than just one night!

College drop-off for our daughter to JMU coincided with our 29th wedding anniversary so we decided to step it up a notch from the usual Holiday Inn Express. The Inn was a delight. We felt like close friends with the innkeeper from the moment we arrived. We stayed in the J.E.B. Stewart room and had the most comfortable bed ever. Each room has their own temperature control which is a plus. All of the standard hotel amenities were included (iron/ironing board, hair dryer, soaps and shampoos). The only thing that made me want to get out of bed were the smells wafting from the kitchen. Our breakfast was served on the beautiful outdoor deck. We cannot think of one thing that could have been changed to make our visit any better. Thank you Wayne, Johnny, Kass and Jonathan.
So glad you were able to celebrate your special day with us! Our staff's mission is to make you feel genuinely welcomed like an old friend, and to make your stay the most comfortable and relaxing you could ask for. We strive to prepare and serve "a breakfast to remember", using the freshest local ingredients available - the most important ingredient being the warmth of our staff. We hope that you will consider spending your next anniversary with us for another memorable experience!

We have stayed at many B&B Inns and some measure up and some less so. In the case of the Stonewall Jackson Inn, it was a complete pleasure. The accommodations were clean, the service was pleasant and cheerful, and breakfast was real food. Would we pay a return visit ... you bet.
Thank you for letting us know that we surpassed your expectations of a B&B during your recent stay. Our mission is to provide a genuinely warm welcome and consider you family as soon as you arrive. Our staff works very hard to ensure a high standard of cleanliness and comfort, along with a delicious home-cooked breakfast. We very much look forward to having you as our guest again to enjoy our heartfeld hospitality and beautiful inn.

The inn is quaint with lots of nooks indoors and out for private conversations and relaxation. Breakfast is served on the terrace under awnings and the innkeepers leave water and sodas in a refrigerator for guests. The inn keepers were kind and made us feel very welcome. We were able to walk to downtown restaurants and sites. Incidentally, I am not a person who appreciates quilts, but the Quilt Museum in downtown Harrisonburg is absolutely amazing if you appreciate art. The quilts on display demonstrate the ability to create images and moods using a mosaic of tiny scraps of cloth and even smaller stitches holding it all together. The farmer's market next door is wonderful too. We also stopped by a nearby Lavender Farm (try the ice cream!) and went to the American Shakespeare theatre in nearby Staunton, which was about a 30 minute drive. Beautiful, scenic mountain area with plenty to do for a romantic or family/friend bonding weekend.
Thank you for letting us know how much you enjoyed your stay with us, along with so many of the attractions Harrisonburg has to offer. It sounds like you had a very busy couple of days creating so many special memories, and including us in those. We strive to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for our guests, along with a fabulous home-made breakfast to enjoy on our sunny deck, or our cozy "Paradise Cafe". We hope you will join us again to enjoy some relaxation and to experience even more of the many things the area has to offer.
