Inn Details

The Channel Bass Inn was originally built as a private home in 1892 by Mr John Winder. The house was converted to an hotel in 1920s. In 1995 Barbara and David Wiedenheft purchased the house and began operating it as a Bed and Breakfast Inn and Tearoom. Today this Chincoteague landmark has seven beautifully furnished, air-conditioned guest rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. The beautiful new Wetherby Suite (on the ground floor) was completed in May 2009. The rooms are very spacious and particularly quiet and peaceful -- no two rooms share a common wall! Most rooms have king or queen size beds, and all have comfortable sitting areas for reading and relaxing. The waters of the Chincoteague Bay can be seen from some of the rooms.
The dining room, once the setting for a four-star restaurant, has now become The Tea Room at the Channel Bass Inn, giving all visitors to Chincoteague the opportunity to sample a taste of England! Along with Barbara's "world-famous" scones, other teatime delights include tea-sandwiches, trifle, Victoria sponge cake with strawberries and cream, Apfelkuchen (German apple cake) and stuffed monkeys.

Very quiet room – the sitting area has two wing armchairs and is the perfect place to enjoy the many books we provide for your reading pleasure. The queen bed is triple-sheeted for your comfort. Winder ~ Smaller, but very pretty and cozy, this Victorian-inspired room has been newly decorated. The lovely double bed is antique, as is the beautiful 19th century dresser. There are two small armchairs and a bookcase with lots to read. The bathroom has a tub-shower combination -- we know you'll love the new black and white tiled floor. If needed, an additional comfy rollaway can be placed in the room for a third person. Our table set for afternoon tea in the dining room.
