From January through February, a two-night visit at $150.00 for any of our four rooms makes a bargain of stepping back in time at Sea Gate Bed and Breakfast in Cape Charles, Virginia on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. Once a bustling railroad and ferry terminus, this town of seven-square-blocks fell asleep 35 years ago when the ferry was relocated but is now reawakening. Streets of eclectic Victorian homes, shaded by mature trees, are perfect for strolling or biking. Walk three houses west and you will be at the town beach, ready for swimming, sunbathing, or beachcombing. At Sea Gate you can relax in a rocking chair on the front porch and watch the hummingbirds dart in to the feeder. Cardinals and blue jays flash against the lush plantings of our yard - windmill palm, yucca, boxwood, pampas grass, pecan and fig trees. The cycle of seasons is graced by flowers of Japanese quince, iris, wisteria, verbena and Scotch broom; day lilies and oleander, crape myrtle and chrysanthemums; ending with winter-blooming camellias. After breakfast, borrow our bikes or beach chairs and head out to enjoy the town. You can play golf at the Arnold Palmer Signature Course or tennis, fish from the pier, shop for local arts and crafts, go antiquing, and savor local seafood at a wide variety of area restaurants. Spectacular Bay sunsets are a vivid close to the day.
