The Lost Dog Bed & Breakfast

The Lost Dog Bed and Breakfast was recommended to us by our friend who leaves in Berryville. We spent there only one night but we had great time. Sandy's hospitality is outstanding and her breakfast (ginger bread pancakes!!!) exceeded our expectations. Our 8 years old daughter enjoyed meeting Sandy's dog Sirius who is the VP of hospitality. We are planning to come back!

The Lost Dog Bed and Breakfast is the perfect getaway. Close enough to walk to places in downtown Berryville, yet quiet, relaxing, and peaceful. Sandy is an accomplished innkeeper who makes an excellent breakfast. We enjoyed meeting her and Sirius (her labradoodle). My sisters and I enjoyed our stay!

It was perfect! Starting with Sirius (beautiful smart Labradoodle) greeting us at the door, Sandy's warm smile, cup of tea in the kitchen talking with Sandy, room was so inviting and comfortable and a delicious breakfast. It was just like going home. We will definitely stay again.

The owner greeted us, helped with our luggage and gave us a tour of our rooms. The breakfast was personally prepared by the owner and was out of this world. The inn keeper is very friendly, and helpful. She adjusted the breakfast time to accommodate our schedule. The inn was clean and the yard/landscaping was immaculately cared for. I highly recommend this establishment.

Outstanding does not even begin to describe everything about my stay at The Lost Dog. Sandy's close personal attention to the needs and satisfaction of her guests, from the desire for full quiet privacy to amicable friendly interaction with her and/or other guests if wanted, combined with absolutely superb range of delicious breakfast choices and amounts, would make this BandB a bargain at twice the price. I plan to return.

Always a delight to stay at the Lost Dog B&B. Sandy, the innkeeper, really makes it feel like 'a home from home'.

My wife and I had such a pleasant stay at the Lost Dog! Sandy and Sirius made us feel welcome and right at home. We stayed in Virginia's room, which was very comfortable and quite roomy. The Jacuzzi made our stay even more relaxing. Breakfast was delicious and the conversation was great too! I highly recommend booking a room at the Lost Dog. Thanks Sandy! Say hi to Sirius for us!

The room was incredibly spacious and well kept. The owner was extremely helpful and had great ideas for excursions while we stayed there. Food was excellent.

We were in town just for one night because we had to shoot a wedding the next day. The Lost Dog B&B provided a clean room with a comfortable bed and a charming atmosphere. Sandy and Sirius were great to be around, and our Saturday breakfast was fresh and tasty -- omelets, croissants, and peach smoothies, all homemade :)

We spent one night at the Lost Dog after a long day of bike riding and wine tasting. Our hostess greeted us at the door, allowed us to store our bikes in a back room, and then joined us as we had our own little wine tasting with wines we had purchased from local wineries. It was great fun - good conversation in a warm and homey environment. We had a great dinner just two blocks away at the Battletown Inn. Breakfast the next AM was really over-the-top --- yogurt and local berries, home made muffins, a deicious version of eggs benedict with toast (bread from a local baker). We were also given some gooodie bags of baked goods and cherry tomatoes from the garden, to get us through our hike as we left after breakfast. I highly recommend a stay at Lost Dog.

Delightful stay in an old, historic home. Enjoyed the proprietor---very friendly and full of stories. Clean and well managed. Would recommend it to anyone.

My husband and I stayed at The Lost Dog B & B over the weekend. Wonderful place to stay and the innkeeper is super. Really makes you feel at home and she is a great cook. We would definitly stay there again.

Our stay at The Lost Dog was perfect. Sandy was attentive but not intrusive, the room lovely and the homemade cinnamon-blueberry muffins were fabulous! We will return to The Lost Dog in the future.

The Lost Dog is a perfect place to relax and enjoy a day or two away from it all. My wife and I stayed in the Virginia's room (which has a fantastic bathroom with a two-person tub). The inn was clean, Sandy was friendly and quick to make us reservations and share local history and attractions. Sirius, her dog, is fantastic. Honestly, even if you are wary of dogs, he will not bother you. He is extremely well mannered and is trained to not even come into the breakfast area until all the dishes are cleared. We began our first day at the Red Schoolhouse Antique store (I think that is what it was called - Sandy, the owner of the Lost Dog will know for sure) which has a wide selection of furniture and other items from multiple sellers in the area. We spent the rest of the afternoon hiking in Sky Meadows state park, which has a number of trails ranging from easy (we saw families with strollers) to moderately difficult (no rock scrambling or dramatic changes in elevation). The park also connects with the Appalachian trail if you're looking for a longer hike. Later on that day we walked the few blocks of downtown Berryville, which is exactly what you would imagine it to be. There aren't a lot of shops and there aren't a lot of restaurants (there are more in nearby areas if you are looking for that), but it is a nice quiet walk. He had dinner at the Battletown Inn, which was fantastic. The entrees are moderately priced ($20-25 for dinner entree) and well worth it. It seems like the menu changes, but we had the shrimp and grits and it was very good. The second day we visited the Apple Blossom festival and checked out the Art Show at the Mill. All in all, the entire experience was enjoyable and relaxing, which is exactly what we were looking for and worth every penny we spent. I would definitely go back to Berryville and the Lost Dog and I would recommend it to anyone.

Sandy is personable and one of the nicest people you'd ever meet. She is knowledgeable about the surrounding town(s) and cooks a mean country brunch!

Sandy, the innkeeper is fabulous! This was my 4th time going back. If you are looking for a relaxing place to sleep and a delicious breakfast while in VA wine country, The Lost Dog is the place to stay!

Sandy is an excellent host and the Lost Dog is a beautiful home. Our rooms were clean, Sirius was an extremely well behaved dog, and the breakfast was tailored to our vegetarian needs. We enjoyed our stay immensely. Highly recommended.

I stay at the Lost Dog every few months for business and if it were closer to where I live, I’d visit for personal pleasure as well. I've now stayed at the Lost Dog a few dozen times. I've even brought my family to visit Sandy when we were driving through the area. She is absolutely a gem of a person and I consider her part dear friend, part family at this point. I've stayed in Leesburg and Winchester before, but now call Berryville my home away from home. The city is gorgeous and very historic. I can walk to several fantastic places to eat including “Focaccia Italian Grill” which has killer salmon; “The Berryville Grille” which has all kinds of great food; “Camino Real” which has very good Mexican food; and “Mario's Pizza” which has very good Italian food and pizza. All of these are within a 5 minute walk, and there are other places that are good such as the Battletown Inn, Subway, and Knosos Café, and a Chinese restaurant. Plenty of great choices to choose from and it’s all very close. For breakfast – Sandy works her magic every day with delicious breakfast staples like eggs, potatoes and bacon, but also fruits, yogurt, juices, and of course fresh coffee. I love the house and find it to be a mixture of a house from the 1800’s met with the amenities of our day – wireless network, cable TV, radio, warm shower, etc. Finally, Berryville is a great place to stay and is like entering a real-life Brigadoon with its small town charm. The Appalachian Trail is nearby, as are a lot of historic places to visit.

Sandy is terrific, and makes every effort to ensure that guests feel welcome and well taken care of.

This is a great B&B in an adorable little town called Berryville, VA. Everything was beyond our expectations; bedroom was clean and comfy, breakfast was delicious, and Sandy & Sirius deserve an A+ for making our weekend getaway extra special. Highly Recommended! We are making reservations for our next visit now and can't wait to return.

This was a beautiful, quaint, and quiet getaway that was just perfect for my boyfriend's surprise birthday present. Sandy is one of the friendliest people I have ever met and very informative on whatever you may be looking for in the area. As my boyfriend and I are both dog lover's, Sirius and his hospitality and specialty tricks for entertaining found us looking for both him and Sandy to socialize with whenever we returned back from an outing. I would highly reccommend this to anyone who is looking for a place to get away from it all and just relax. We plan on returning as soon as we are able to! Thanks again to Sandy and Sirius for everything!

This bed and breakfast is worth the trip. My husband and I were completed satisfied with the service, food, and location. This property is located to a number of wineries and museums with a small town feel. We look forward to returning.

We stayed in The Lost Dog with our two small dogs during a slowish weekend during the summer. We had a lovely time, wonderful healthy, local produce breakfasts. The garden is fantastic, and with the dinning room, porch room, garden seats, and lawn chairs, you can sit and relax many places on the property, outside, with your dogs playing in the fenced in yard. I had a lovely time and would definitely go back. Cautions: Though it looks like you can take your dogs and leave them in the room, the owner does not allow this and you must always have your animals with you (defeats the purpose of the weekend to some extent as you can't have your dogs with you for every single activity). While I am somewhat new to the B&B experience, I have made a practice of trying them out regularly. This is the only place I have been to so far where our doors were open during the day when we were gone (by the owner, not us). I did not appreciate this and felt it was an invasion of privacy, especially as we were not asked first if this was alight.

My husband and I went to Lost Dog for our first anniversary as a getaway! The Lost Dog was perfect! Sandy was so welcoming. The room was amazing and the breakfast was even better! We HIGHLY recommend this b&b!

We stayed two nights at the Lost Dog, which served as a nice hub for the mix of activities in the Shenadoah Valley. Breakfast was delicious -- starting with the fresh fruit from the fruit patch, and ending with a lovely egg dish. Our room was a nice retreat at the end of the day. Sandy is a gracious host, welcoming and helpful but don't forget Sirius, the lost dog, who welcomes you at the door and leads you to breakfast in the morning!

A perfect hostess, who makes you feel right at home, especially when the weather is rotten, and a wonderful (and exceedingly well trained) dog. The food was ample and delicious. One of our best B&B experiences.
