THE WHITE BIRCHES INN ABINGDON'S #1 B&B DESTINATION
THE GEORGE BERNARD SHAW ROOM This is our only first-floor guest room. The decorative queen-size four-poster canopy bed is the focal point of the room. Oriental rugs decorate the floors in both the guest room and bath.
THE THORNTON WILDER ROOM Decorated in lighter shades of jewel tones, this cozy room offers a queen-size century-old brass bed, a fireplace, and a dormer window seat.
THE NOEL COWARD ROOM Decorated in mellow jewel tones, this mini-suite offers a king-size Charleston-style iron bed and a separate sitting room with a 150 year-old burled walnut chest of drawers with marble inlay.
THE PORTERFIELD SUITE This grand suite is the inn's newest addition and is decorated with cabbage rose designer fabrics, persian rugs and antiques.
THE TENNESSEE WILLIAMS ROOM Decorated in deep jewel tones, floral accents, and a century-old armoire, this mini-suite has been hand-painted with a scumbling technique to reflect the warm hues of the decorator fabrics.
Large outdoor room complete with wicker and paddle fans, overlooking a Koi Pond and tranquil waterfall which is sheltered from the noise of street traffic and hot sun
Though most of the furnishings are English or American antiques, there is a compelling mix of periods.

The White Birches Inn was a most pleasant surprise. This lovely property is furnished beautifully and tastefully and has been maintained exceptionally well. The Tennessee Williams Room was spacious with a wonderful view of flowering trees in the garden. A lovely fireplace was a bonus. Breakfast was outstanding! Michael and Paulette were the best part. They are the consummate innkeepers, gracious, accommodating and welcoming. They were very genuine in their desire to assure their guests an enjoyable stay.

My husband and I ,along with two other couples, had the delightful pleasure to stay in Abingdon, Va recently. After attending the Barter Theatre, we enjoyed a delightful stay at the White Birches Inn. We've stayed in Abingdon before and have stayed at some very nice inns. My group decided this one is worthy of a review. The attention to detail was such a pleasant surprise, from ice buckets in the rooms to complimentary wine and Wi-Fi that worked . The whirlpool tubs are not tub/shower combinations and the rooms are surprisingly large and comfortable. The hosts are delightful and extremely accommodating. Breakfast was probably the best part. It was wonderful getting to know other guests . The hosts even sat with us . My friends and I enjoyed the lovely, well-kept and beautifully landscaped grounds. The innkeepers even offered to take some group pictures for us. We all highly recommend the inn.

We were able to walk from the B&B to downtown, which was nice. The rooms were clean and elegant. Breakfast could have used more additions for the price of the room.

We have stayed at three different B&B's recently, so it is easy to compare. The White Birches Inn was definitely the biggest disappointment. When we saw the Inn Travelers Magazine rating for them as the number one in "affordable luxury", we expected a LOT for the $179 per night. We did not get it. The rooms are not spacious. They are crammed with as much furniture as possible. We stayed in the Tennessee Williams Suite, which could only be called a suite because they crammed a love seat and two chairs into the room. The low seven foot ceilings makes it feel even more claustrophobic. Two people cannot walk in the room without stepping aside for the other. ... On the positive side, the innkeepers were very gracious and friendly and made great conversation at breakfast.

3.8 out of 5Lovely B&B in Abingdon VA
September 13, 2007
We stayed one night at the White Birches Inn in Abingdon. This was the 2nd B&B we had stayed in while visiting Abingdon and the best. I am not sure that I will stay in a B&B again the next time I visit as there are some nice hotels for a lot less money and so far the Abingdon B&Bs are only average. We paid $165 for the Porterfield king suite. The best thing about this B&B is the friendly hosts who make your stay enjoyable. They make it a point to make you feel right at home with great conversations. They were both very friendly and enjoyed helping their quests. The room was nicely equipped with a jacuzzi & king bed. They had wireless internet service which was a nice addition. The bed was comfortable. The only negative is that the room was a little cramped and the TV small. Otherwise it was very nice. Breakfast was good and the service excellent. Mike and Paulette couldn't have been nicer.
