Since 1982, Penury Hall (the first B & B on Mt. Desert Island ) an historic property built in 1830 in Southwest Harbor, has welcomed many through its distinctive red front door. We enjoy sharing our love of fine arts, antiques, gardening, books and sailing with our six guests. Private baths of course and breakfast ranges from Eggs Benedict, Cinnamon Waffles, Penurious Omelet to Blueberry Pancakes and beyond, a different one served every day. Located on the " Quiet Side " of Mt. Desert Island, we are less than a half-mile from many of the attractions of Acadia National Park. Today the Mountain Ash House comprises two suites, each with a unique decor and ambiance. And, yes, each suite has its own quality, private bathroom. A beautiful guesthouse barn was also built on the property to accommodate horse- and dog-friendly guests. The barn is called "The Guesthouse" and it includes a large studio loft with kitchen, full bath, and queen bed. It overlooks a small pasture where you will sometime see Jax, our drafthorse, lying under the apple tree fast asleep. Modern conveniences throughout the grounds of the Mountain Ash House include wireless internet service. Suite rates include a delicious, organic morning breakfast, as well as afternoon tea, wine, and treats. Guests have full access to our common living room with welcoming fireplaces.
