Featuring eight tasteful rooms with private baths, comfortable featherbeds & charming architectural features. Wake up to the aroma of fresh baked pastries and hot coffee which are just the start to our full country breakfast. Enjoy fresh cookies and a variety of tea & coffee around-the-clock. Just a few miles from both Mad River Glen and Sugarbush ski resorts, the 1824 House Inn is a convenient wintertime farmhouse and a unique summertime destination. Please consider our beautiful property including rustic barn, hilltop pasture & riverfront meadow for your wedding or special event in any season.
The Caledonia Room is the gem of the property. This quiet rear room looks out over our beautiful yard and features its own sliding glass door and patio. Occasionally referred to as "the bridal suite," this room has a king sized bed, a seating area for two, a spacious bath and plenty of room for a bride's attending parties.
The Addison Room is a cozy second floor room with a queen size bed. Located in the oldest portion of the house, the Addison room has the original maple floors and charming farmhouse-style architectural features. The private bath contains a shower, and the room features partial river views and a bird's eye view of our neighbor's organic vegetable farm.
The Washington Room is the most spacious room in the Inn. Located on the second floor, the room features a king size bed, seating area and private bath. This bright, welcoming room also boasts original maple flooring and a classic Vermont-style diagonal window which frames a view of our barn. Room can accommodate a third guest at an additional charge of $25 and with advance notice.
The Bennington Room is perfect for a romantic weekend. This subtly decorated room has a king size bed and charming private bath. Guests find adequate storage, antique furniture, and views of our beautiful grounds. Access from a secondary, rather steep stairway makes this room suitable for nimble guests. Room can accommodate a third guest at an additional charge of $25 and with advance notice.
The Franklin Room is a first floor room located in the rear of the house, in the portion that was originally the barn. This quiet room features a queen size bed, a spacious closet and private bath. It is stylishly decorated and it also benefits from radiant heating, so cold-toed guests may appreciate it during the winter months.
The Orleans Room is located upstairs in the rear portion of the house. Awaken to the smells of breakfast coming together in the kitchen below. This second story room gets afternoon sun and holds a seating area and king size bed. The shower features a skylight window, but also has a rather steep eave, so this room is best suited for guests of moderate height.
The Chittenden Room is a well-appointed second floor room with a queen size, four poster bed. Antique furniture, original artwork and a distinctive stained glass feature make this room unique. The Chittenden room overlooks the front yard and also offers partial river views and classic valley scenery.
The Windham Room has a queen bed, private bath and Northerly view of both our duck pond and our neighbor's organic vegetable farm. It is nicely appointed with a bright and cheery decor. The room's convenient first-floor location makes it a great choice for guests who would prefer to avoid the stairs.

We just returned from a weekend at the 1824 House and we loved everything about it. The Inn Keepers are so gracious and generous. The inn itself is spotless and beautiful. Our room had a simple elegance that was just perfect. We were treated to mouth-watering breakfasts - maple scones, farm fresh eggs and bacon, and scrumptious pumpkin pancakes. After a day of skiing we were greeted with homemade chocolate chip cookies that we enjoyed relaxing in the living room in front of a roaring fire. We will definitely be back!

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our 3-night stay at this delightful B&B. The room was cozy and comfortable (with a down comforter fluffed every night!). The whole inn was lovely - well decorated with antiques, very clean, with large common spaces and a guest fridge. It felt like I was staying at a friend's home, who is also an excellent cook and decorator, and even has warm cookies waiting for you when you arrive. Which brings me to Emily, the innkeeper. She is absolutely wonderful - accommodating, friendly, helpful, and INCREDIBLY thoughtful. She's an excellent cook as well, her breakfasts are delicious. The grounds of the inn are really beautiful, too, with great views. There is a terrific barn on the property that Emily uses to host catered events. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Visited for a wedding & were so pleased. Gorgeous property, comfy rooms & great innkeeper. We won't go anywhere else when we return to Vermont.

We stay at a lot of B&Bs, and never have we felt so comfortable. We spent time in the beautiful living room chatting with the young, funny, and delightful innkeeper. The road noise in the A.M. was the only drawback.

If you're staying in the Mad Valley, you really must stay at the 1824 house. We recently stayed two nights at the 1824 House, and our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. The young innkeeper, Emily, welcomed us with fresh baked cookies and a cheerful smile. The room was tastefully appointed (unlike many places, it didn't feel like Grandma's house), quiet, and clean. We at dinner both nights at the on-site restaurant, The Barn Door. If you stay here, you have to eat here (the steak is amazing). Emily's breakfasts were as good as The Barn Door's dinners. She was also very responsive to our dietary restrictions. We couldn't have been more pleased!
