  • The John Buckmaster Room is our largest and most spacious room which faces West and views the local church and barns. It has beautiful wide-pine flooring and allows for a lovely and relaxing visit while in the picturesque Green Mountains.
The John Buckmaster Inn was built in 1801 and is in the National Register of Historic Places. The names of the rooms are based on the people that were involved with the inn/ tavern when it was built, such as Asahel Holten, who was the practicing physician in the Shrewsbury community during the years of 1798 to 1813. John Buckmaster owned to Black- smith Shops and was the Postmaster of Shrewsbury Center. There is much history surrounding our Inn, we would love for you to see for yourself!
This is the Asahel Holton Room, it was named after the local doctor back in 1806. It has a queen sized bed and is quite spacious. It has the morning sun and a Southern view. It also has a privte bath.

We have a beautiful country Inn, listed on the National Register of Historic Homes. The Buckmaster Inn was built in 1801 and is located in Shrewsbury, VT. Shrewsbury is a picturesque, quiet community, wonderful for hiking, biking, cross-country skiing or simply relaxing. We have four guest rooms with private baths. The decor is New England country flare and comfortable for resting after a long day in the fresh air. We have fireside breakfast dining or breakfast served on a very large screened-in porch during the warmer months. We're a very friendly and hospitable Inn and when you are our guests, we make you feel as though you are at your own home away from home. We are centrally located on the back side of Killington Mountain between Rutland and Ludlow, Vermont. We can be reached by major highways and roads which will bring you to our splendid location in our quaint community. We'd love to have you as our guests, so please give us a call at (802) 492-3720 or e-mail us.

You will want to come back

    October 11, 2009

We stayed here for 2 nights on our travels around New England, and it was bettered by none. so much so we wish we had stayed much longer. The hosts Elizabeth and Richard made us feel welcome from the moment we stepped through the door, til we sadly waved goodbye. The inn dates back to 1801 and has been styled in keeping with a homely, relaxing way making you feel comfortable from the outset. There are 4 rooms to choose from, each of which are decorated in an individual way, but all are recommended. Breakfast was a special time, served by candlelight, with individual requests never a problem. If you want a place for a truly relaxing break away from it all, no TV, mobiles (but the internet - just in case!) then this is the place for you. Be prepared to be sucked in and desperate to return!
