    Smugglers Notch Inn, near Stowe, Vermont, is a 150-year-old building that is a Registered National Historic Building with the U.S. Department of the Interior. We have 11 beautiful guest rooms situated amid world-class skiing, biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, golfing and shopping. Decorated in a classic New England style, all rooms feature private baths and some include a fireplace or Jacuzzi tub.     The place is charming and very well kept. The Mix - the onsite breakfast/lunch place is terrific and convenient - as is the Tavern downstairs. Yet with all these conveniences, it's still not fabulous. The service is friendly but very absentee. If you have a problem or need to speak with someone, there is really nobody around. The owner is an absentee owner - and it shows. While everyone who we encountered tried to be helpful and were certainly friendly, we were really just surprised at how "not present" people were. The rooms are clean and were fine for what we neededc - but we would recommend that you do not stay in room number 11. It is the first room at the top of the stairs in the main hallway where most of the other rooms are located. As such (and since it is such an old place) - you can hear every footstep, cough, voice and other noise that happens as people pass your room. The location is great for skiing Smuggler's Notch - and the area itself is charming. A different room that was less noisy may have upped my opinion by a star.
