Applewood Manor Bed & Breakfast

We took a chance, and what a great treat. The accommodations were at the worse AWESOME!!! The receptionists Sampson, Maya and Alice were wonderful. Our hosts were very gracious. Ralph is a great cook and does a great job taking care of the property and Nancy is absolutely charming and very easy to have a chat with. My wife and I are already planning a return trip and can't wait to go back. We are recommending this B&B to our friends. Thank you again Nancy, Ralph, Sampson, Maya and Alice.

This was like an oasis. We were on an overly-ambitious road trip of New England. We were weary and living out of a suitcase. We show up at Applewood Manor. It's clean, cozy, and homey. We dropped our stuff off and popped out to dinner. I actually couldn't wait to get back to our room. We slept well in the comfortable, clean bed (I fell asleep thinking how glorious and lush the sheets were!). Breakfast was fresh, delicious, well-proportioned and personalized. We not only recommend Applewood and Nancy (I'm sure that Ralph is lovely, but he was away), but we would stay there again without hesitation.

We enjoyed the well appointed historic house, the choice of accessories and the grounds. The use of a pantry and refrigerator were useful "homey" extras.The service was immediate, charming and helpful. Breakfast was tasty and immaginative. We felt that the value was excellent and will plan to come agein.

I wish I was more eloquent with words so I could give proper credit to Nancy and Ralph and Applewood Manor B&B. It was so beautiful and comfortable I never wanted to leave. Ralph's banana bread was extraordinary. I hope to have an opportunity to visit again.

Ralph and Nancy are great people. They make you feel right at home and will fulfill any reasonable request. There home is beautiful and the landscape is tranquil with the snow covering all about. Their golden retriever Samson is a wonderful dog. He is lovable and quiet too. While I enjoy the quiet and reading my wife prefers watching TV in the bedroom rather than in a central room. The temperature in our room (probably the furthest from the furnace) was rather cool during the evening hours before sleep. The bedding was outstanding, nice and comfortable and warm.

I recently spent a night at Applewood Manor Bed & Breakfast after attending a sporting event at Castleton State College. Everything about my visit (hosts, comfort, breakfast and conversation) was wonderful. I will go back and I highly recommend it to others.

This is the 3rd or 4th time my family and I have stayed at Applewood Manor. Nancy and Ralph are great hosts. The breakfasts are delicious, the rooms are comfortable and homey, and we love Samson.

Great 3 nght stay at Applewood Manor. The home was restful and lovely; their dog Samson was an added treat. The best part for me was Nancy's great recommendations for dinner and sites; and her wonderful customer service.

My cousin and I visited wit Nancy and Ralph two weeks ago. The welcoming atmosphere, the great conversation, the beautiful house and grounds were better than I had hoped. It was so relaxing that I was content with sitting on one of the porches reading a book, enjoying the weather and surroundings. I would highly recommend this location to anyone who wants to escape the stresses of life and sit back and relax. Next time I plan on going when the fall is underway!!

Not surprised at all the good reviews. I loved this inn. It was beautiful, spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable, with an absolutely delicious breakfast. I saw someone has posted that it's the best B&B they ever visited - I agree. I've stayed at a lot of B&Bs, but this was the best. I never had to look for anything I needed; everything was perfectly arranged, with plenty of comfortable and beautiful spots for relaxing. It was a treat to meet Nancy, and I am really looking forward to staying again.

We stayed here for 6 nights and absolutely loved it. Ralph and Nancy are the best innkeepers. Ralph makes the best french toast and pancakes Nancy helped us with questions and even made phone calls for us. We will certainly go there again if we are in the area. J & J

We found Applewood Manor Bed and Breakfast during a recent weekend get away to Vermont. Nancy and Ralph are lovely hosts, making us feeling welcome from the moment we walked in the door. Rooms are elegant, clean, quiet and comfortable. The atomosphere was relaxed and friendly with a beautiful pool to enjoy on hot days and quiet porch, library and common room to read a book and relax. Our breakfast was very good and the company of the other guests and our hosts was very enjoyable. I would highly recommend Applewood Manor to anyone staying in the Castleton Vt. area.

Local resident mentioned this establishment to us upon our trip to the area, and we're so glad he did. Simply marvelous ! No complaints whatsoever. Beautiful all around: interior/exterior grounds. Can't wait to return. Lovely couple run the B & B.

Nancy is sane, welcoming, gracious. (Didn't see Ralph much.) The inn is so charming and mindfully kept - without being at all pretentious or grandiose - it's so pleasant, clean, inviting..... the site is so beautiful, quiet, with rustling winds and birds and small but rolly hills and fields... Everything about this inn was a delight. Wish I could return multiple times.

I came to Castleton for a week to write, and stayed at the Applewood Manor B&B the entire time. I was able to relax completely here and focus on my work, and produce double the amount of pages that I had set as my goal. Each morning I would get a wonderfully custom-made breakfast of blueberry pancakes, french toast, omelet or eggs Benedict, lots of deliciously strong coffee, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the countryside like an occasional hummingbird that would drop by the feeder next to the table. Mostly during the day I would walk around Castleton, and the B&B is only about a block off the main street. It's a pity there's no sidewalks, but that's not the B&B's fault. It's also right next to the famous Castleton River, which you can walk over every time you walk into town, and they also have a little path that runs alongside it with a picnic table near the end. Bring bug spray though, the horse flies can get nasty! As someone who loves historical architecture, I was pleased to find their house was a 200 year old federal style built by one of Castleton's first sons, Noah Hoyt, and they had a lot of historical pictures and descriptions of the house and family in the main rooms. I had stayed in Noah's room, and it was very comfortable, though the floors were a bit creaky. I had stayed during a particularly bad heat wave, and because the house was built so long ago there's no proper HVAC/AC system set up for the house. However there was an AC unit in each room, so as long as I stayed in my room writing for these particularly hot days, I was able to keep cool and comfortable. They also had a swimming pool, but alas, I had forgotten my swimsuit. One evening though, I did stick my feet in the pool while reading, and it was a very nice spot to sit and relax.

We are an Australian couple that spent eight weeks travelling through the North East of USA and Canada and Applewood Manor was one of the high lights of our trip. Made the mistake of only staying one night but a return trip is on our bucket list. Hopefully one day(maybe a week) and a special Thank you to Nancy and Ralph our perfect host.

My family stayed at Applewood Manor over a long weekend and we had every room occupied by children and grandchildren. The innkeepers are very considerate and tried hard to meet our every need. They even accomodated our varied dietary needs (allergies, lactose intolerant, vegan) and every breakfast was delicious! We highly recommend this B&B to everyone.

Beautiful - Cozy - Quaint - Relaxing - Inviting - Friendly... There are not enough words or adjectives to describe just how wonderful this B & B really is !!! We spent our 20th Wedding Anniversary at the Applewood Manor and could not have been more pleased with everything Nancy and Ralph provided for our comfort :) Breakfast and conversation was second to none. I had no expectations for a B&B in Castleton, VT and I was pleasantly surprised! The grounds, home, room, service and meals were outstanding. I would highly recommend Applewood!

We have been fortunate to stay at Applewood Manor on 2 occasions. Our daughter is a student at nearby Castleton State College. We were thrilled when another parent recommended Applewood Manor. Nancy and Ralph are very pleasant and always welcoming when we arrive. Nancy makes a mean pot of tea and delicious baked goods. Ralph's breakfasts are scrumptious and very filling! YUM! While on a visit to family in area, my sister set my wife and I up for a night at Applewood Manor. We have never stayed at a Bed & Breakfast before, so we were very curious about our stay. One night at Applewood and we are now hooked. Everything was first class from Ralph and Nancy's hospitality to Sampson the dog. The accomidations are wonderfull and the breakfast was excellent. We will be back again and again.

Had received wonderful reports about Applewood -- and our own experience provided confirmation of those reports! Accommodations were excellent, breakfast was outstanding, and the friendly, welcoming atmosphere was splendid!

My fiancee and I were very fortunate to stay at the Applewood Manor Bed and Breakfast a few weekends ago and we just loved it. Nancy and Ralph are wonderful; our "Hannah" room was gorgeous and we really loved all the special touches that Nancy had made in the room. She chatted with us when we first got there and introduced us to another couple and it felt like we were home. The breakfast and service in the morning were outstanding and so delicious. We hated to leave this beautiful "house" and we can't wait to go back again.

Having seen the excellent reviews already posted, there is nothing to add except this is by far the best B&B we stayed at during our foliage trip and we will definitely return.

Can't wait to go back to Applewood Manor Bed & Breakfast. What a great experience. Warm and comfortable atmosphere, rooms and beds. Our host and hostess were more than accommodating. Our breakfast (we only stayed one night) was great - fresh fruit, coffee cake, homemade blueberry pancakes, orange juice and hot coffee. Can't wait to go back.

We spent 3 pleasant days at Applewood Manor in early November. We found the beautifully restored home warm and welcoming and made daily use of the Library on the first floor. Our room was clean and cozy and offered beautiful views of the surroundings. We especially enjoyed walking the trail behind the house that winds through the expansive grounds along Otter Creek. Every morning at breakfast Nancy would join us and her other guests for coffee and conversation in the dining room. Ralph remained behind the scenes preparing breakfast. Nancy and Ralph are gracious hosts who made our stay at their home a delight. We plan to return there again in the not too distant future.

Nancy and Ralph run an efficient operation. The inn is very much like a warm , welcoming home...quite comfortable. We slept very well (beds are high quality) and in the morning enjoyed an amazing breakfast!! Can't wait until we can visit again!

My husband and I stayed at the Applewood Manor B&B for a couple of nights while taking a foliage trip through Vermont. Nancy and Ralph were gracious hosts, their large home is beautifully furnished, clean and comfortable. The breakfasts were excellent and included locally made sausages and syrup. Even though the Inn was fully booked, it still remained very quiet and private. The Inn is situated on a quiet picturesque piece of property that evokes relaxation from the time you pull in the driveway. We look forward to staying here again for another wonderful get away.

I stayed at the Applewood recently for a reunion with high school friends. I had stayed there previously and have always had a great experience. Ralph and Nancy are gracious hosts and try to accomodate all requests. IOn a prior stay I asked them to do a small tea party for friends who were in town and staying else where. They did a wonderful spread for us for just a little extra cost. Another time they let us have a wine tasting there. The towels are thick and the sheets are soft - no skimping. The house is lovely as are all the rooms.

We live in the UK and planned our US holiday to include Washington and New York as well as the autumn colours in Vermont. We looked for a location in Vermont which would be convenient for the train from New York and Applewood Manor looked to be an appropriate choice. We were absolutely delighted with our selection. The Amtrak journey from New York to Castleton was fine and Nancy met us at the station. Applewood Manor is a lovely historic home, beautifully and very comfortably furnished. Our room and facilities could not have been better. Nancy and Ralph are excellent hosts. They took us to Rutland to collect a hire car for our stay in Vermont and gave us lots of advice on interesting places to visit. Castleton is in an excellent location for visiting numerous attractions. Previous visitors have commented on the breakfasts and they are absolutely right. Everything was served to perfection. In summary, this is an excellent bed and breakfast and deserves 5 stars in every respect.

Traveling is always a luxury and Applewood Manor is indeed luxurious! A beautifully maintained historic building, caring and helpful innkeepers, wonderfully comfortable rooms! In any season, we have found the inn provides a wonderful base for seeing Vermont.

We have stayed at Applewood Manor a number of times now and always look forward to the experience. It is just wonderful in so many ways. We are Maryland seniors who have stayed at Applewood three times, the most recent in August, 2011. Like others we have stayed at many B&B's and find this one to be number one. We originally found Applewood through some business contacts at Castleton State College who highly recommended it. Believe me, they are all true. The grounds and house are beautiful, but more importantly, so are the people who run it. Nancy and Ralph are wonderful people with great warmth and knowledge of the area. We have stayed both in Hannah's Room and Delia's Room and love them both. They richly deserve being in the top 10 B and B's. We spent many hours with the hosts and with the other guests who always were interesting people as well. The place was spotlessly clean and the atmosphere is very restful. It reminds us of home amidst the beauty of Vermont. We enjoyed and recommend it to anyone who is interested in this kind of beautiful place. We love it and will keep coming back.

Met with friends we only get to see once a year - enjoyed the comfortable, varied and attractive areas in this historic home to visit and catch up. Nancy was super friendly, helpful, and hospitable. Visited Applewood on a business trip. Was able to work on the laptop on the most beautiful porch overlooking their pool. The innkeeper was very accomodating, refrigerator available, breakfast was good - no complaints. There is not much in Castleton except for the colleges and a couple of restaurants which seem nice. I would stay there again.

My youngest of 7 was beginning her freshman year at CSC and we had to stay overnight so she'd be ready and on time for orientation the following day. The Bed and Breakfast was more beautiful that pictured on the website, and Ralph and Nancy were exceptional hosts! The rooms were beautifully appointed, the beds made to perfection, and because our train arrived so late, my daughter and I had not eaten, so Nancy made certain we got to eat before we turned in by taking us to visit one of the local dining establishments on the water. It was wonderful, the food was great, the service excellent, and we could not have asked for more. It was a tough time for me as a mom seeing my youngest off to college, but Nancy made it less stressful and more enjoyable. She made a fabulous breakfast that I was able to sample before rushing off for the only train of the day back to NYC, and Nancy made certain that my daughter got to sleep in just a little while longer before she headed off to CSC for orientation. My daughter and I both slept wonderfully that night and we both wanted to go back in the spring. I highly recommend Applewood Manor to anyone who wants a quality stay in the Vermont area with the charm of home and the impeccable style, grace and service of a five star hotel. I don't easily distribute high marks to customer service unless truly earned, and Applewood's grade was truly earned. Beautiful Bed and Breakfast! Ralph and Nancy go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. We would definitely stay there again!

We stayed 5 nights and it felt like a home away from home -beautiful rooms, great breakfasts made by Ralph. Nancy is charming, welcoming adnwas so helpful in planning our daily road trips The gardens are gorgeous and on this, our 2nd visit, we were able to use their lovely pool. We definitely will only stay at Applewood Manor when we need a respite or are traveling to Vermont. The extra touches were a delight - chocolates in our bedroom, lemonade or ice tea in the afternoon. When traveling we like to stay at bed and breakfasts and Applewood Manor is above the rest.

My husband and I traveled for ten days from PA into Canada and back home stopping at a different place every day. We stayed at all B & B's, that's our favorite way to travel. This was our last stop before heading back home and it was the icing on the cake!! I love older homes and this was such a beautiful place with all the up to date ammenities. Our room was Hannah's room and it was huge! The king size bed and pillows were so comfortable, I wanted to stay!! Nancy and Ralph were so friendly and personable, they are truly gracious hosts. Ralph's breakfast was terrific and the day we got there Nancy was sweet to let us use the mini frig for our local beers we picked up and sat out on their beautiful patio to relax after a long day of motorcycle riding (especially being we won't drink and ride). Their back patio and pool are absolutely beautiful, you can see the keep there place well maintained. For anyone traveling by motorcycle, Vermont is a great place to ride and route 100 from north to Applewood B & B was very nice. Definetly a place I'd like to go back to, fall would be great. Thanks again Nancy and Ralph, you made our last night of our vacation so enjoyable!!

This is our second visit to Applewood Manor. Each of our visits were in August when the weather is just perfect. The lovely pool is perfect for a delightful swim. Our breakfasts were just superb!!! Our first morning's breakfast included eggs benedict with asparagus. The next morning we enjoyed fresh fruit plus fabulous French Toast with fresh strawberries. After working so hard at preparing a perfect breakfast, Ralph and Nancy still made time to sit with us and make us feel like we were the only people staying at Applewood and that they had all the time in the world to entertain us. Suggestions for Lake George and the Morgan Horse Farm made our days filled with great destinations that we enjoyed greatly. For everything included at Applewood Manor, the price is very low making this a fabulous mid summer or mid winter getaway. I recommend Applewood Manor to anyone who enjoys getting away from the hectic life that somehow we all fill up with activities. Nancy and Ralph are the perfect hosts to provide a totally relaxing getaway!!

We had an opportunity to stay in Applewood Bed and Breakfast for 2 nights while visiting relatives and what a lovely place. The accomodations were excellent and the service was absoutely perfect Best of all is the price . Centrally located in Castleton which makes for a easy day's drive to the numerous tourist spots in Vermont at a price that is very easy to deal with Given the service and accomodations I would strongly consider Applewood for any Vermont visit You will never find better accomodations

Sherry and I came in with a storm but power was restored shortly thereafter. Lovely accomodations, location and price. Nice grounds, good dog, nice house history and fine breakfast. Nancy's stories and her educational background added to our stay. What is a revolution? Ask her. Recommend highly.

This bed & breakfast makes me want to go back to VT just to stay there even if I didn't like VT, which of course I do. Nancy & Ralph are excellent hosts & their B&B was so so comfortable & beautiful with lots of history. Their breakfast was delicious also!

Applewood Manor is the place to come when you want to relax, be restored and rejuvenated. I am so happy my daughter found you on-line. Vermont is a beautiful place for a city girl. My siblings and I, spouses, cousin and Mom traveled to Vermont for Mom's 90th birthday to research family history and visit some beautiful surrounding sites. We stayed 2 nights with Nancy and Ralph and Sampson at the Applewood Manor. I wish we could have stayed longer - it was the perfect spot for our get-together. We reserved all 5 rooms, and had a wonderful private mini-vacation. Ralph's breakfasts were superb, and we shared many laughs with Nancy. The house and grounds are beautiful, with the swimming pool an added plus. This would be a wonderful spot for a family reunion with kids. There's lots to do in the area. We will definitely return.

Did I not understand the fee? But no; it was as low as I'd thought. I was constantly amazed at what I'd been given, staying three nights at Applewood alone for some canoeing, quiet reading, and writing. It was by far my best B&B experience ever. Everything, and more, where and when you hoped for it; interesting, intelligent hosts; a gentle dog to greet you; terrific breakfasts; a beautiful house perfectly kept; pastoral views out the back. Castleton is wonderful little village - historic and friendly. My five dots on each of the review categories were easily assigned.

Ralph and Nancy have a lovely B&B and are so gracious. Nancy is very personable. She shared with us how she and Ralph came to open Applewood Manor, her Scottish roots, and provided us great travel info about local dining and sites. The breakfast Ralph prepared was wonderful. Homemade blueberry pancakes and syrup from their trees--what a treat. Rooms were beautiful and the grounds were amazing. We hope to return again.

It was our second trip to Vermont and we decided to stay in Castleton. Our hosts Nancy and Ralph were so wonderful. When I asked Nancy where we could get some really good local maple syrup, she told us that she had some that they sold that came from the trees on their property. I was so excited to hear that and was glad that I asked. The blueberry pancake breakfast was wonderful. When I asked Nancy if there was any place close by that we should see she recommended the Marble Museum. We had not been there before and she didn't steer us wrong. It was great to see all the different types of marble and the different displays especially the hall of presidents. We also bought a few items to take home with us. Would definitely recommend that if you are visiting that area of Vermont, do stop by and stay at the Applewood Manor. You will be glad that you did.

My boyfriend and I originally stayed at Applewood Manor for a winter break in 2010. We loved the inn so much we decided to return for another visit in May 2011. As we arrived for our May respite, the stress from our Washington DC environs disappeared. We were greeted by the clean, well-appointed front room (complete with hundreds of novels, comfy couches, and beautiful views of the landscaped yard). Better than the front-room accommodations was the warm greeting from the inn-keeper Nancy. Nancy is perhaps the most personable inn keeper i have met. She is always willing to engage in conversation and has an impeccable ability to read her guests' needs (tea, a cold drink, dinner recommendations). She eagerly welcomed us and showed us to our room. The room (I believe Hannah's Room) is lovely. There is a king size canopy bed, plenty of storage, and an attached bathroom. We woke the next morning (and every morning thereafter) to a delicious breakfast made by Ralph. For example, we devoured farm-fresh eggs (Ralph-I dream of these eggs) one morning and blueberry pancakes with the inn's own maple syrup the next. One of my favorite parts of the inn is the welcoming atmosphere Nancy helps provide. The guests often find themselves eating Ralph's breakfast together and conversations flow as naturally as the maple syrup. I truly cannot give this inn a higher vote of confidence. Thank you, Ralph and Nancy, for providing us such a relaxing visit. If you enjoy being spoiled on a reasonable budget, consider a stay at the Applewood Manor.

My wife and I flew into Albany from Colorado, rented a car and drove to Castleton, where the Applewood Manor was our base of operations while we researched my wife's ancestry, a great, great, great, great grandfather who settled there in pre-revolutionary times. Not only were the facilities outstanding in every respect, and Ralph's cooking superb, but Nancy helped us line up meetings with historians and town clerks in the area, which resulted in our learning a great deal about the forefather. Our next trip to Vermont will most certainly include another stay at Applewood Manor.

My husband and I stopped here for one night and it was so very hard to check out the next day. Nancy, Ralph and Sampson are amazing. They are masters of hospitality. Nancy shared the history of the home and how she arrived from Scotland to Vermont. We felt so very welcomed and Castleton is a cute and charming community with lots to do surrounding it. Breakfast at Applewood consisted of fresh blueberry pancakes with syrup made from the trees in their yard. Sampson, the golden retriever, is my new best friend. We wished we had more time to spend at this place. Definitely worth all the accolades that they have won. They're hardworkers and it definitely shows!!

Imagine a country road in Castleton, Vermont leading to a freshly painted old farm house with surrounding gardens. A portico leads you to the old wooden door where you enter a sitting room of antiques, cozy sofas, and arm chairs just down the hall from a formal parlor where you'll be served afternoon tea with homemade cookies to welcome you. This is the Applewood Manor B & B. The upstairs bed rooms vary in size according to the requirements of the guests. Ours held a four poster bed complete with a large private bath. Interesting books and articles about the surrounding area dotted the bedside tables of our home away from home. These comforts plus the helpful and friendly in keepers serving us a delicious hot breakfast the following morning completed a satisfying overnight stay in this little Vermont village.

Our daughter graduated from Castleton State College this past weekend and our three night stay at Applewood Manor was perfect in every way. We tried to reserve a room at Applewood Manor last fall for the much anticipated graduation, but were very disappointed that no rooms were available. We went to the wait list. :-( Imagine our delight when Nancy called last week with the opportunity to book a room due to a cancellation. We snapped it up. :-) Applewood Manor is a lovely property that is meticulously decorated and maintained - yet still cozy and comfortable. Nancy and Ralph are wonderful hosts - who now feel like old friends after only three nights. The breakfasts were 5-stars (cooked by Ralph) and Nancy is a master at integrating breakfast, guests, and conversation. It felt like we were staying with a group of friends. My only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. Clay and Donna Small.

I have been to Castleton, Vermont a several times, and I always look forward to staying at Applewood Manor. The rooms are beautiful, very comfortable and quiet. The location makes it very convenient to eat at near by restaurants and visit the country side. And one of the best things is the hospitality. We usually find our destination by searching the internet.When we reviewed Applewood Manor it looked terrific. When we got there we found it was as advertised. Outstanding! Spent yet another fabulous weekend at the Applewood. My husband and I have returned on numerous occasions over the past five or six years and each visit is more delightful that the last. We were visiting Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vt and decided to venture a bit away from the town. We investigated staying in Castleton, only 6+ miles from the school, and discovered Applewood Manor, Nancy and Ralph. And, we are thrilled we did. The house is situated on a quiet New England road surrounded by big trees and lovely countryside. The B & B grounds were well trimmed and coming to life after a rather long and snowy winter. The house is cozy, decorated beautifully and very comfortable. It happened that we were given a very nicely appointed room with beautiful wallpaper and comfortable furniture. It came with a clean and cozy bathroom and a fireplace which added to a feeling of warmth. The sheets were soft and the pillows plush. We liked the fact that the room did not have a television. However, directly across the hall was a cozy sitting room with yummy chocolates and a t.v. which we used after our days of exploration. The morning breakfasts were special treats. The food was delicious and plentiful. And, the conversation added to the richness of our stay. We really enjoy talking with other travelers and with our innkeepers. Nancy, our innkeeper is a very warm and interesting host. She enjoys engaging with her guests in conversation and brings to the table herself along with the delicious breakfasts created by her husband, Ralph. The food was quite plentiful and the coffee hot! The experience was just what one would want from a B & B. We felt at home and comfortable. Met interesting travelers and had stimulating conversation. Privacy when we wanted it and friends around who knew the local places of interest and who enjoyed sharing their world with us. A good time was had by all.

A friend and I were up this past weekend, what a delight! We stayed in Noah's room, imagine what sleeping on a cloud might feel like.. what a rest. Breakfast was delicious and the tea before bed reminded me of special weekends with my grandparents. Thanks Nancy and Ralph for a wonderful experience!

I recently stayed at Applewood Manor B&B on a business trip. It is the most relaxing place I have stayed while traveling and I was very sad when I had to check out! The bedrooms are extremely spacious and comfortable, specifically Hannah's Room where I spent the night. The beds are so comfortable, you'll never want to leave! Nancy was extremely friendly, making me a pot of tea while I watched TV in the living and chatting with me while I ate breakfast. Her pancakes are amazing! My experience here was fantastic and I cannot wait to return for both business and fun!

What a wonderful stay I had at the Applewood Manor! In addition to wonderful hospitality, I had the most comfortable sleeping experience of my life, and was greeted by a delicious breakfast upon waking! The location was not only beautiful, but also extremely convenient to my business at Castleton State College. A wonderful value--I wish I could have stayed for a week!

What a beautiful place inside and outside. It felt like we were staying with friends instead of a B&B. The room was so comfortable and the rest of the common areas were great. Nancy and Ralph were so hospitable and even though we had to get on the road early the next day they made sure to have coffee ready and spend a little time with us before we had to leave. Whenever we are in the area we know where we are staying from now on.

Our family stayed at Applewood Manor for two nights when our grandaughter was looking at colleges. We found everything, from our arrival when we enjoyed tea and cookies in the sitting room, during our stay in the front two beautifully furnished bedooms (Noah's and Hannah's) and Ralph's delicious breakfasts by the fire, to be outstanding. We especially enjoyed our chats with Nancy regarding the local area and restaurant suggestions. We would recommend this B & B wholeheartedly to anyone traveling in the area.

My husband and I stayed for an overnight last weekend to see a concert at Spartan Arena and have a brief getaway from our three little boys at home! We are so happy we stayed at Applewood Manor, Nancy was so friendly and inviting but not intrusive. we stayed in Noah's room and I have to say the sheets were the softest I ever felt, I even may purchase a pai directly from Nancy's supplier! We had tea in our room as we got ready for dinner - the Blue Cat Bistro was great too - and breakfast was amazing. I would definitely stay again, maybe next time on the beautiful back porch and/or by the pool.

We booked the entire facility with a group of friends - it could not have been a nicer experience! The accommodations were superb; the food was amazing and quite frankly just a perfect overall experience. We were there in the winter and experienced a few light snow flurries, a great day out on snowmobiles and great dinners out in town a few minutes away. We already are working on another couples weekend get-a-way as well as a late season guys weekend out on the bikes touring the area, too. This is an absolutely "must-stay" bed and breakfast. The folks at Castleton State College booked me into Applewood, and my stay was such a delight. Nancy, Ralph, Samson (golden retriever) and Maya (macaw) are all as hospitable as can be, and I hung around the morning after my stay so long I almost missed my return plane flight. You will be delighted!

This was my first stay but I would gladly return. The bed and breakfast was quaint, clean, the service and hospitality was outstanding and the breakfast was terrific. I look forward to my next stay and hope it will be longer. I would highly recommend the Applewood Manor.

Recently a group of friends decided to take a weekend break from our busy day to day schedules. We researched several B&B's in the New England area and based on the reviews decided on Applewood Manor. Our Host and Hostess (Ralph and Nancy) were more than gracious and accommodating to meet the needs of the ten of us. The Inn was charming, the rooms spacious and decor incredible. Not knowing the area, they both assisted us in locating activities that were a perfect fit for our group. The food was also a treat. Ralph is a "gourmet" in his own rights.... Our breakfast both mornings outstanding. Nancy with evening coffee, tea and cookies gave us the "home away from home" feeling of comfort and putting us all at ease. A special treat at the Inn is Samson the dog and Maya the macaw. Samson in his gentle nature and Maya in her vivid appearance. Thank you both for a WONDERFUL experience !

This was our first stay in a bed and breakfast of any kind. I have to say that no others will ever compare to how nice your place is decorated and how homey it truly feels. Upon walking in we were all in awe of the beauty and warmness we felt. It was such a relaxing weekend. We felt completely at home and enjoyed every minute. For me was an experience. It´s more than a B&B, you feel at home in Applewood Manor. Very comfy (bed and linen are unbelievable, you don´t want to get out the bed). Ralph´s breakfast deserves michelin star!!. But over all, the warmness and kindness of Ralph and Nancy, no words. Gracias por todo!!

I am so delighted with my stays at Applewood Inn. My husband and I stayed there on several Thanksgiving holidays and summer weekends when we were visiting family in the area and every time it was a wonderful experience – it just felt like home, a very elegant and also informal and comfortable home where we were warmly greeted by our hosts Nancy and Ralph. Several times we brought our adult son and his wife and two girls. Each of our rooms was lovely and we all gathered for tea in the living room area and played chess in the sitting room area and had totally delicious breakfasts in the dining room, usually cooked by Ralph. The furnishings and accessories are in perfect taste and they have all been lovingly collected by Nancy and Ralph. My husband, an artist, particularly appreciated the beautiful pieces, as did I, even if I am a scientist. On our summer stays we enjoyed the beautiful grounds and the swimming pool. We recently stayed at the Applewood Manor B&B for the second time and it was every bit as wonderful as the first time. Nancy and Ralph could not be kinder or more solicitous hosts, asking after our every need and wish. Their local knowledge pointed us to a couple of good places to eat we wouldn't have found on our own. The place is spotlessly clean, breakfast is excellent and the accomodations are sooo comfortable! It's surprisingly convenient, being little over a mile from Rte. 4, a dozen miles from Rutland, an hour from the Northway and 40 minutes from Killington (our goal). We will be back again. I stayed at Applewood Manor while visiting my brother who goes to Green Mountain College. From tea and cookies when my mom and I arrived to talking to Nancy about Scotland, it was a great stay! With very comfortable beds, great breakfast and awesome hosts, our family will definitely stay at Applewood Manor whenever we are in the area.

Applewood Manor is a charming, spacious, quiet excellent B&B in a very nice area of Vermont. Nancy and Ralph are gracious hosts who make you feel at home while giving you plenty of space. Breakfast was outstanding - best blueberry pancakes I've ever had. It was my first visit but I am sure it won't be the last.

Applewood Manor is a wonderful place to stay. It's the true Vermont experience. We stayed for a few days in January while visiting family - the inn surrounded by snow was beautiful. The furnishings are comfortable and lovely. Our hosts provided a hot pot of tea each afternoon. We would not hesitate to recommend this place.

I have stayed at Applewood Manor twice so far, during the process of getting my daughter settled into Castleton State nearby. What a treat! I live on Martha's Vineyard, where there are many lovely places to stay, but this is easily as nice as any place on the Vineyard, and a much better value. Nancy & Ralph treat you like old friends, and I look forward to many more stays over the next four years.

My husband and I heartily recommend Applewood Manor. Recently, we were needing a place to spend a night of terrible weather before taking a train the next morning. With very little warning, (they were taking the same train and planned for no guests), they "took us in" after a dreadful drive from Middlebury and we were able to enjoy a wonderful rest and good conversation in a beautiful setting before coffee and the train early the next morning. Next time we'll plan to stay for breakfast, which we hear is fantastic. Nancy and Ralph are new friends. Don't miss these delightful people and their hospitality.

Stayed for a couple of nighr last August - wished it could have been longer. The house is just beautiful and our room (Hannah's) was gorgeous - have never slept in such a big bed before! Nancy being a fellow Brit made us so welcome and looked after us beautifully as did Ralph who delighted our husbands with his range of "boys' toys" in the garage! Everything is here to ensure you have a wonderful bed and breakfast experience.

The Applewood Manor effortlessly exceeded our expectations. Being a young city couple, my girlfriend and I appreciate any opportunity we have to escape the daily grind of busy city life, but rarely do we find ourselves in such a place as the Applewood Manor. It was 1) Relaxing, 2) Restorative, 3) Relishable, and 4) Really, really worth it.

We (all 3 couples) were all pleased with your B&B! We all agreed that next time we are in your area, it will be the place for us to stay! It was a nice personal touch that you guys came to visit us while we were fishing! Everyone boosted about how great the Pancakes were too! We were thrilled with the setting,the service & the local railroad station! Hannah's room was amazing, so comfortable & spacious. A return visit at any time of the year is on my wish list.

I would just like to thank Nancy and Ralph for making our stay so memorable. This was the first bed and breakfast we have stayed in and everything about it was above and beyond. The only issue I can honestly think of is that we arrived alittle later in the evening and were on the road again soon after breakfast. There were three couples in our group and we all wished we had booked the Applewood for two nights instead of one so we could have hung out with Nancy and Ralph, enjoyed the town of Castleton, the surrounding historical sites, and the comfy beds at the manor. Love it sooo much don't hesitate to book I am sure you will enjoy every moment of your stay. Watch out future bed and breakfast at least for us you will have high standards to meet. I arrived early in the afternoon, and Nancy greeted me and offered me a cup of tea as the day was cold cold cold and rainy. She left me to hang-out and relax in the room. I used the tv room to pass the time till my husband came, it was really like my own home. Breakfast in the morning was fantastic, and Nancy was a great and pleasant conversationalist. I would certainly recommend Applewood Manor Bed & Breakfast!

We had an absolutely lovely room with the most comfortable beds. Nancy was an excellent hostess and welcomed us warmly even though we were a bit late. She also helped us decide on a touring route which was so valuable as we had little time. I highly recommend the Applewood Manor.

My husband, two young children, and I recently had the wonderful opportunity to stay at the Applewood Manor Bed & Breakfast while visiting my in-laws. We loved everything about our stay: the rooms were gorgeous and scrupulously clean, our children were made to feel welcome despite their ages (4 and 2, but well behaved), Ralph and Nancy were generous, thoughtful hosts, the beds were decadent, and the breakfasts were delicious. Despite having to work for part of the weekend (in one of the beautiful public rooms, complete with wireless internet access), I felt like we were on vacation--not merely visiting relatives. After our children were asleep each night, we watched television, drank wine, and talked with the other guests. We hope to return each summer.

Everything exceeded our expectations. Nancy is a very gracious hostess and very knowledgable about the all of the area attractions. Her husband does all the cooking and it was wonderful. We stayed in the Hannah room and it was fabulous - the bathroom is almost as big as the bedroom and the bed and bedding is so comfortable we didn't want to get out of bed, but the coffee and food smelled too good to resist. If we ever get back to this part of the country we will make sure we stay at Applewood.

This is a really warm and welcoming B and B in a lovely location. Nancy welcomes us as UK visitors with a cup of tea in fine china! She is full of local information on where to go and the best local places to eat. Ralph cooks great breakfasts. We were only there two nights but had time and good weather to relax on the comfortable, peaceful veranda. We would rccomend it to friends and hope to return in the future. VP October 2010.

My sister and I absolutely LOVED Applewood. It was such a joy just to sit and drink in the beauty of the grounds. We were meeting family members, who were coming up from out of State and we needed to find somewhere near to where they would all be staying. We couldn't have found a more delightful place. On our first full day there, I said to my sister: "What do you want to do, today?" and she said: "Nothing! I just want to sit and enjoy being here!!" So that's exactly what we did. We swam in the pool and Nancy brought us out refreshments and it was the most relaxing time either of us have had in ages. I can't wait to go back. The rooms were lovely and I can't thing of one thing that would have improved our stay. When Ralph came out to introduce himself, I told him that this little gem was "the find of the century" and he chuckled. My only regret is that we weren't able to stay even longer.

After covering the Saratoga Races for the Lowell Sun, Joanne and I wanted to take a few days to unwind in beautiful Vermont. We lucked into the Applewood Manor Bed & Breakfast in Castleton. Nancy and Ralph could not have been more gracious hosts and Ralph's breakfast was to die for. The grounds and rooms were impeccably kept, including the common rooms, the porches, grounds, and pool area. We also found the nearby Fair Haven Inn restaurant as good as any five-star establishment in Boston. We are going back again next year, extending our stay this time to scout out the Woodstock and Middlebury areas. But, there is only one place to stay - The Applewood Manor Bed & Breakfast. My husband and I only had one night to spend for a mini-vacation in the midst of an insanely hectic August. Applewood Manor provided a lovely oasis from the stress! The inn is beautiful and sparkling clean. It's filled with interesting, distinctive furninshings and decorative touches. Breakfast was delicious, ample, and delightfully presented. I don't know how Ralph and Nancy find the time to be so unhurried and nice while providing such good service and food, but they achieved the perfect combination of being welcoming but not intrusive. We highly recommend Applewood Manor, and hope to stay there longer next time!

My son has chosen to get his education and play hockey at Castleton State College in Castleton Vermont. I am so excited that he has settled in to this quaint town of Castleton. I am also very excited that I have found my own "home away from home" at the Applewood Manor B&B in Castleton. My sister and I came from West Virginia to help my son get settled in the dorms and we stayed at Applewood. I felt like I was at our Nan's home in Nova Scotia while staying there with Nancy and Ralph. We came down to a lovely breakfast and conversation with the other guests. A young couple came down to breakfast with their two young sons dressed in their pj's and at this point my eyes overflowed with tears at the thought that it was only yesterday that my two sons were this young and now I was leaving my oldest here at college. Every mother at the table begin to fill up with tears as well . I feel that Applewood is a special place and that is why I have booked every room for my entire family to stay when my son plays in his first CSC home opener hockey game in November. I can not wait for the rest of my family to experience Applewood as their first ever B&B visit and see my new "home away from home".

Our son and his new wife gave us a weekend stay at the Applewood for the help we gave them during their wedding preparation. What a wonderful gift is was. Our room was spacious, comfortable and cozy. It and every other room in the inn was spotless. The food and conversation at breakfast was outstanding. My husband and I spent a great weekend at Applewood Manor in August 2010 while in Vermont for a High School Reunion. We were delighted with the very comfortable four-poster king bed and cozy recliner chairs in pretty Hanna's room. We appreciated the spaciousness of the bedroom and bath. We also spent much time relaxing on the wonderful porch where we enjoyed lemonade and met other guests. Our breakfasts were delicious including fresh fruit, blueberry pancakes, and eggs Benedict. Best of all was the welcome and care we received from innkeepers Nancy and Ralph. They made us feel right at home and treated us like old friends. We look forward to another stay at Applewood.

My wife and I stayed at Applewood Manor for only one night, but we wish it had been for much longer. The room was terrific and the grounds and pool were a great place to relax after a lot of traveling. Nancy was a wonderful host, and Ralph's breakfast was great. Best B&B we have stayed at. We stayed in Hannah's room. Nancy's hospitality is unsurpased, and Ralph's breakfasts are delicious. Nancy and Ralph graciously accomodated a request we had to eat breakfast early on our day of departure so we could pick up our son at Boy Scout camp.

The Applewood Manor Bed and Breakfast in idyllic and bucolic Castleton, Vermont is, in one word, gorgeous. Staying there provides the guest (s) with truly a wondrous way to take in all that the Green Mountain State has to offer. Each of the rooms, with a feminine name, is individually and tastefully decorated with its own theme.(And the beds and pillows are so comfortable!) Finally, guests are pampered with a gourmet breakfast, prepared and served by Nancy and Ralph, two absolutely lovely, charming hosts and owners of this top-notch B &B. My wife and I have stayed in many B & Bs over the years, and would rate this one A plus.

My wife, father and I stayed at Applewood Manor for 3 nights in June. It was an absolutely fabulous stay in every respect. The property is beautifully, maintained perfectly and decorated magnificently. We stayed in Hannah's room, which was very comfortable with a large bathroom, and the most comfortable bed I ever slept in. The breakfast prepared by Ralph every day was delicious and always different. Best of all was Nancy's warmth and hospitality. It really felt like home. Better than home, because of the lovely surroundings and great service. This place is a gem!

We weren't careful in selecting the Applewood for its amenities - it came up on a website and we wanted the location - but we were rewarded on a ninety degree day with a beautifully clean and cool in ground pool and the perfect porch to sit on in the shade after a dip. The history of the house is all around you in the details and worth appreciating the meticulous care, upkeep and renovations done by Nancy and Ralph. The grounds are beautifully maintained and Castelton is central to a few small gems of excursions though we were perfectly content to take in the B&B for its' own pleasures.

You can be a trained world traveller or not, used to be far from your place or not,once You are at Nancy and Ralph's wonderfull manor you'll know You made it HOME. They will do everything to make You feel like You always belonged to this place. Whenever You travel to Vermont don't miss it,this is the place You'll love and leave saying "I'll come back". This was our first visit to the Applewood and it won’t be our last. We just wish we knew about it sooner as we were there for the weekend of our daughter’s graduation from Castleton and we lost out the previous 3 years by always staying in Rutland. Nancy & Ralph make you feel right at home as soon as you arrive. We stayed in Noah’s Room which was very spacious with a large bath and a very comfortable bed. The wonderful breakfast made by Ralph is just what you need to start the day. If you are planning on visiting the Rutland/Castleton area, we HIGHLY recommend staying at the Applewood.

We are two Florida seniors that have stayed at many B&B's throughout the US and Canada. We chose Applewood for a 3 night stay in early July based on the reviews. Believe me, they are all true. The property is beautiful both inside and out. I spent many quiet moments reading on the porch as well as the inside common rooms. Pride of ownership is evident from the minute you pull into the driveway. We chose the Hannah Room and the bed is ever so comfortable and the bathroom is huge. We were staying here on really hot days and the room air conditioner and fan kept us comfortable. The bed linens are beautiful and the room is charming. Nancy is an absolute delight - making us feel very welcome. I enjoyed chatting with her throughout our stay and enjoyed talking with Ralph over coffee on two mornings before he got busy preparing wonderful breakfasts. Our breakfasts were tasty and we enjoyed the company of other guests staying at the B&B. Nancy pulled up a chair to the breakfast table and added to our lively conversations. Even Sampson, the golden retriever, was a delight and certainly well behaved. I hated to leave Applewood. I know that in the future, I will be holding up Applewood as a comparison and probably will have to go a long way before I find a B&B as perfect. Given the quality of the accomodation, I think the rates are very reasonable and would not hesitate to recommend Applewood to any friends passing through Vermont. Thanks Ralph and Nancy for caring enough to make your B&B a true delight.

We loved staying at this B&B - Nancy was really welcoming and friendly and really fun to talk to. The breakfasts were really great and the other guests were fun. Nicely located close to the lakes and other activities, with a gorgeous lawn, fantastic outdoor lounge areas, and a very inviting pool. Comfortable bed and a very relaxing stay!

We could not haven chosen a better home away from home to spend our honeymoon! We were well cared for in a friendly and warm mannor. We sure didn't lose any weight with Nancy's fablous breakfasts! They were so delicious we saved some money on lunch:) Larry encouraged us to visit Mt.Mitchell and it was paradise in June with a temp of 65! Thanks so much Larry and Nancy

We stayed there last week while touring Vermont. Nancy was wonderful, charming and Ralph cooked great blueberry pancakes for breakfast. Had great conversations with the other couple staying. The porch was terrific for a late afternoon drink and a read. My husband went for an early morning run and met horses in the mist - loved it. It's close to Shelburne Museum - a must - and Lake Champlaine. But most of all - great hosts!

This was our first stay at Applewood Manor and we will definitely be back. Nancy and Ralph were wonderful hosts - ensuring that our dietary needs were met (Gluten intoleranance) and that every detail of our stay was top notch including reastaurant recommendations. The room and bathroom were very clean,well appointed and comfortable including wireless internet. The food, service and conversation at breakfast made the stay memorable. This Inn has to be THE BEST is all of New England. From the lovely decor and the luxurious and comfortable accommodations, to the delicious breakfasts and the warmth and friendliness of the host and hostess, this home is 5 stars all the way!!! We've stayed here a few times and look forward to our next visit. After recommending it to a few people, they've fallen in love with it too! If you're traveling anywhere around the Rutland area, be sure to make this one of your stops -- you'll be happy you did!

My wife & I stayed a total of three nights in Sarah's room early June of 2010. The home & grounds are impeccably maintained & Nancy & Ralph are wonderful hosts; not to mention companionship from Samson & Sophie. The setting in the quiet town of Castleton is great as a get away; however, very accessible to Rutland & shopping as well as easy access to all major highways through Central Vermont. Nancy is a wonderful caring host & makes everyone feel "at home" Ralph cooks great breakfasts; our favorite eggs benedict. The grounds are relaxing & inviting & all accomodations are great! This was our first trip to the beautiful state of Vermont & surely added to our fond memories. We enjoyed the great outdoors & beautiful scenery in this area of the state & especially the nearby Lake Bomoseen & many smaller lakes. We don't think anyone could find a better B&B or top Ralph & Nancy as hosts; we're already discussing returning again before too long! Cannot say too much about the great total experience! Pat and Don enjoyed our 4 night stay in this beautiful home. The B&B had all the colonial charm that any history buff would seek and certainly enjoy. The owners, Nancy and Ralph were most cordial and accommodating. The breakfast cuisine was excellent and served infront of the dining room's hearth. Breakfast conversations with the other guests along with Nancy made the dining experience most pleasant. The room in which we stayed was beautiful and very comfortable. We also had a very nice bathroom adjoining the bedroom. It was a most pleasant experience for the two of us and we would most certainly return for future visits.

Staying at Applewood Manor was my best B&B experience to date (and I have never had a bad experience.) Ralph and Nancy are superb hosts who went above and beyond to make my stay as comfortable as possible. The bed was plush and comfortable. Breakfast was delightfully served by Nancy, who stayed for some lively conversation when I was alone in the dining room (I am an early riser and so I was first to the table every morning.) Ralph is a marvelous chef. He prepared a wonderful poached eggs and greens dish when I told him of my dietary restrictions. I did not rent a car for this trip. For a fee, Nancy was able to accomodate my infrequent need for transportation. This was not your garden-variety cab or shuttle ride, however. It was like getting a ride from a friend who knows her way around the area. She pointed out places of interest as we passed them and we enjoyed great conversation. As one who enjoys reading and relaxing, I found my favorite area to be the porch in the side yard whch overlooks the pool. With its comfortable furniture and cool shade, it is the perfect place to enjoy a great novel or two. All-in all, the Applewood Manor B&B offers a peaceful, comfortable stay with a delightfully personal touch. The rooms are very clean and comfortable while our hosts are amicable and accomodating. Staying at Applewood Manor is like staying with family. Highly recomended!

Could only stay one night but it was terrific; Clean, quiet and a sweet golden retriever as co-host as well. Immaculate building, and grounds with amazing flowers. Great breakfast by Ralph. Loved the history of the place too. Highly recommended.

My husband and I stayed at the Inn with another couple who had been to the Inn several times prior. We were most impressed by the comfort of the Inn (especially the pillows), the cozy atmosphere and great breakfast's. This is a top notch Inn and Nancy and Ralph are quite the perfectionists when it comes to making their guests feel welcome and comfortable. We have already recommended the Inn to several other friends.

This is an excellent Bed & Breakfast. The rooms were very neat, clean and comfortable. Nancy is a great hostess, and Ralph make an awsome breakfast. I'd highly recommend Applewood Manor for anyone looking to enjoy some quality time in Vermont.

Applewood is a delightful home from home where I had four lovely nights last week. Its beautifully done, lots of antique furniture and ye olde worlde charm, my bedroom was wonderfully appointed with a four poster bed and a huge spacious bathroom. Ralph and Nancy, the proprietors, are great company and wonderful hosts. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Vermont. Applewood Rocks!

My husband and I stayed here for the first time while our son had a visit at Green Mountain College. What a lovely B & B! We will definitely be visiting there again in the fall.

Being so close to Green Mountain College was the main criteria for originally selecting Applewood Manor B&B so that we could visit our son. Nancy and Ralph were extremely accomodating, caring, and willing to go the extra mile to make our stay pleasant, fun & relaxing. I can't wait to go back.

Both Nancy and Ralph could not have been more hospitable to me. They made me feel extremely comfortable and were very accommodating. When i arrived they even upgraded me for free, simply because that room was empty! Very generous. The breakfasts were delish and they made me tea for my room every evening. I can't wait for my next trip to Vermont and to be able to stay here again.

A uniquely wonderful place. The rooms are cozy, comfortably decorated, impeccably clean and very well appointed with high quality bed linens and towels. You feel as comfortable as you are in your own home. Ralph's breakfasts are delicious, the table pleasantly set and Nancy's service and conversation very special. The common areas are equally impressive and the property is very nice. Filled with wonderful details like chocolates in your bedroom and a cup of coffee or tea when you arrive. We will definitely be staying here during our return visits to the area. This is one of the top couple of inns we have ever visited anywhere.

I felt so nurtured at Applewood Manor. Proprietors Nancy and Ralph have created an incredibly cozy haven within an environment of elegance. I loved the candle lamps in all the windows, glowing their cheery winter evening greetings. Breakfasts were delicious and were yummily adjusted for my special diet needs. Transportation was generously available, with great conversation along the way. Pots of tea were in abundance. I went for a quiet retreat time and found that plus so much more.

We stay at a lot of Bed and Breakfasts and this was one of the best ever. Nancy and Ralph made us feel so at home. The room and house were immaculate and welcoming. We were served tea in the parlor and a delicious breakfast. The surroundings are quiet and peaceful. I cannot think of anything that could have made our stay better and we will absolutely be returning. Thanks Nancy and Ralph, you guys really made our weekend great!

Everything about Applewood Manor is appealing. The New England setting, the interior decor, and the warmth of the proprietors (Nancy and Ralph). Breakfasts are wonderful, both the food and the dining room atmosphere. We feel very much at home here and highly recommend it.

Our stay at Applewood Manor was just magical. The house is so cosy, breakfasts "ala Ralph" absolutely delicious, a fantastic way to start the day and the property a winter wonderland. It was like walking into a Thomas Kincade picture--warm lights inviting you to come in from the snow, take your shoes off, sit by the fire with a cup of tea and chat with friends. The Christmas decorations still up, you are back in time when things were tenderly made by hand. You can just imagine how it must have been to live in those days of old. You feel like a curious child, wanting to explore each nook and cranny--to see the view from this window or the decorating in the next room. AND the hospitality was warm and friendly and the meals were scrumptous and beautifully presented. Truely an enchanted place!
