Just stayed one night but the owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely consider to stay there again if I ever go back to Williamsburg. Did not dine there so the Dining rating is not indicative

We will definitely stay there again and I highly recommend it. Service Is excellent. No dinner but I rated the breakfast instead which is good and sufficient. If you want more food, there is a cafe next to it that serves everything. I highly recommend the and will definitely stay there again.

My wife and I recently enjoyed one day and night at the Fife and Drum Inn, and would highly recommend this B & B. The location is ideal being right at the town of Williamsbutg and across from William & Mary College. We had an ideal time visiting and enjoying excellent dining.

The Fife and Drum has a great location, and everything we wanted to see was in walking distance. The room was very clean and comfortable. The proprietor was friendly and very helpful.

Centrally located with free parking. We stayed in the Jamestown Room. The room was lovely and the bed was really comfy. We missed breakfast both mornings, however they have tea, coffee, juice and cookies available afterwards also. The cookies and the juice are available all day. Billy was very nice, introduced himself and explained how things work at the Fife and Drum, advised us he was available 24/7. Overall, I would highly recommend the Fife and Drum and would stay there again should we ever make it back.

Room was as I expected. Service was exceptional, very helpful staff and owners. Had a bit of construction going on while we were there, so didn't have the best experience.

Billy and Sharon are the consummate hosts, with friendly, gracious service at every turn. We stopped in ahead of check-in to learn about alternate parking arrangements as the City was reconstructing the Inn's parking lot. Billy and Sharon were out, but we were warmly greeted and given full details of the provisions that had been made. For future visitors, that construction is now complete and everything back to normal. We learned upon check-in that an air conditioning unit had failed after the stresses of the earlier week's excessive heat and humidity. Unfortunately, that unit serviced the Cedars Suite which we had reserved. Billy was very upfront about the progress and after inquiring about our schedule for the evening, offered us some choices. We chose to switch to the Conservancy, which was a smaller but very romantic room. The bath featured a large tiled shower with seat and separate sink and bathroom alcoves, all very nice and impeccably clean. If there was one point of frustration, it would be that the position of the large sink and mirror is such that someone requiring close proximity to shave or apply makeup has a very difficult time. Breakfast was wonderful and consisted of a delicious quiche (puffy omelet style), biscuits with and without ham, fruit and melon, granola and more. We would definitely recommend staying at the Fife and Drum, and will be returning at our next opportunity.

I stayed here while picking my daughter up from a summer program at the College of William and Mary. The inn is very conveniently located to the campus, as well as to all of the Colonial Williamsburg attractions. Our room was comfortable and very clean with antique details--especially charming is the breakfast room.

I rented the Drummer's Cottage for a 4th of July get-away with my wife and daughter. The cottage was perfect! The location was fantastic. We will definitely be staying in the cottage again.
4.2 on July 09, 2014
My family and I enjoyed staying here. You can't beat the location - everything was within walking distance. The historical district was a block away and many restaurants and shops were right there. The hosts were friendly and helpful in helping us make the most of our time. I'm used to having a refrigerator for my use in most B&B's, and that was not the case and I wasn't prepared for that, but since there was an ice machine, we made do. The food was great and very fresh - I would have liked to see more variety though, as only one dish changed daily and the rest were the same. I can't say enough about how good it was so it would not prevent me from staying there again. My only (slight) disappointment was that the host had to ask my name when I checked out. I spent 4 nights and a considerable amount of money with them so that did sting a little at the time. That also will not prevent me from going back. All in all, I really enjoyed it and my family and I were very comfortable and felt safe.
4.2 on July 07, 2014
Nice place to stay with character unique to the Inn. Would recommend to others. I found it a little difficult to find as it is only a doorway off the sidewalk and not a larger more formal entrance.

We had a three night stay and just loved it. The location is perfect for Colonial Williamsburg. We hope to return soon.

Billy & Sharon were great hosts. They provided the common room to my wife and me for our last minute wedding, and everything went off without a hitch. Historic Williamsburg was great. All considered, a very satisfying experience!

we recently stayed in the drummer cottage and found it to be most comfortable. it was handicap accessible and within walking distance of everything. the morning breakfast was delicious and we found everything we needed to be there. parking was easy and we enjoyed our stay very much. would rent this again.

Great place to stay, walking distance to everything. The rooms were cute and private although doors were a bit... Transparent to noise. Everything was pristinely kept and the staff super helpful. The food was good but nothing spectacular. That said, there are so many GREAT restaurants literal stones throws away that this is of little import, just don't forget to include dining out in your budget. All and all I would recommend and will be back.

Terrific location near the college, Colonial Williamsburg, and loads of dining options. The owners were very knowledgeable and friendly. Breakfast was delicious. This was our first bed and breakfast stay and we weren't quite sure of what to expect; we were pleasantly surprised and would definitely stay again!

The cottage was walking distance to all of Williamsburg and Wm & Mary but it was a bit pricey. Enjoyed our stay there.
5 on May 30, 2014
Location aside (which is perfect), the Fife and Drum had everything we were looking for for our brief stay in Williamsburg. Ambiance and the quality of the rooms and service were exactly what we were looking for.
5 on May 29, 2014
We stayed this last time in the Cottage because we brought our children with us. We typically stay in the Cedars Suite. Our stay was great the Cottage was terrific and we always enjoy being able to walk to places to eat or grab a drink. The televisions could be updated but we don't really go to Williamsburg to watch TV.
4.0 on May 25, 2014
We chose the inn for its location, and were very pleased with its convenience and impressed by the hosts. The owners were personable and helpful, especially with orienting us to the surrounding attractions-- but avoided the mistake of being too chatty with exhausted travelers, which was pleasant. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well-provisioned, though small and complete with historically-correct squeaky floors. The lemonade, cookies and coffee in the common room were very good, but breakfast was on the modest side (more than adequate, a little less than impressive). We enjoyed our stay very much and would likely return on another visit to Williamsburg.
4.6 on May 20, 2014
Very clean, large room, decorated Williamsburg style. The breakfast was wonderful and excellent service. Only complaint was the inn was difficult to find since it is located over stores rather than an older house which was what I was expecting
5 on May 19, 2014
My wife & I were palnning on visiting Colonial Williamsburg and I began looking for a "close" place to stay. We wanted to be close so we could simply walk to the historic sites. I original booked us at another location about .5 miles away. The I found the Fife & Drum. The reviews sounded great and the location was exactly what we were looking for. When we arrived and checked into our room, it totally exceeded our expectations. It was warm, cozy and perfectly situated just a block from Duke of Gloucester Street....Perfect! We loved pour stay and Billy & Rhonda (I think) treated us like family. We would go back in a heartback and we strongly recommend it. Jerry & Paula Gates

Quiet, comfortable, convenient, clean, and great breakfast! It meets all my requirements. When I return to Williamsburg the Fife and Drum will be my first choice for lodging.
3.4 on April 25, 2014
We used Williamsburg as our base to explore the Historic Triangle and Norfolk, and stayed three nights at the Fife & Drum Inn. Even having the address, it was difficult to find the property. We had to ask for directions at a nearby store. As someone else already posted, the property is on a second floor and we were carrying heavy luggage (our stay was part of a three weeks trip) but, Bill, the owner, helped to bring it upstairs. We stayed at the George Washington room. It is a small but cozy room. The main inconvenience is the noise as it is next to the entrance stairway and, as any old wooden stairway, it squeaks when people use it. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was functional. Breakfast was excellent, varied and tasty. The TV set was kind a museum piece, very small and old technology. We didn't care as, very seldom we watch TV but, for someone who likes TV, I imagine it should be annoying. Bill, the owner, deserves a special mention. He did everything possible to help us with suggestions, directions and was always ready to help. In summary, a very nice place with first class service but needs some updating and it is definitely not suitable for people with mobility restrictions.
5 on April 19, 2014
The rooms were delightful and the location cannot be beat. My nephew and I stayed at The Fife and Drum prior to attending an admissions session at William & Mary. We were able to take advantage of both the colonial area and the college. What amazed me most was how delicious the breakfast was--buttery soft biscuits, robust flavorful coffee, a delectable egg dish, and cantaloupe that tasted like real even though it is only April!
5 on April 17, 2014
We stayed here for our wedding anniversary and were very pleased with the room, the buffet breakfast each morning, and the ease of being able to walk to the attractions and restuarants in the historic area of Williamsburg. The hosts are very friendly and give their guests advice on what to see and where to dine. Note that you do have to go up a full flight of stairs to reach the accomodations and dining area (we are in our mid-sixties but had no problem with doing this). We will certainly want to plan a return visit to the Fife and Drum!
5 on April 15, 2014
We stayed in the cottage and it was wonderful. Our 9 year old twins loved the bunks and you fell as close to the action as if staying in one of the historic buildings. Billy and Sharon and very accomodating and very helpful. This is the place to stay!

Having traveled throughout many countries and countless hotels and bed and breakfasts, this one is one of the top. I would for sure stay here again in a heartbeat. - The rooms had a few extra touches that put it over the top and worth the money spent. Be sure to check out the Conservatory Room if you stay here. It had a very old fashion bath tub coupled with a dual head shower as well. Our bed had a canopy. It was very wonderful. - The common area had the allure and charm of the heart of Williamsburg. I really liked the fire place and fresh baked cookies. Breakfast the next day was BETTER than any bed and breakfast I have been too. Way better than normal hotels in Europe. - There are a few restaurants right next to the Fife and Drum, but if you do stay, you MUST remember to call a head a few weeks to reserve a spot for dinner. We just ate at the bar. - The Fife and Drum was very clean and well kept. - Best of all the hospitality was remarkable. Everyone helped us with any questions about the area and what to do. For location, and comparison to prices of other bed and breakfasts, i think this is a best deal kind of place. We saw upwards to 400-600 dollars for places on the outskirts of town. I think that is key as well, You are right across the street from myriad restaurants and a theater. Parking was awesome. You get your own parking spot and do not have to pay, even if it is a 1min walk away.

My husband and I spent our anniversary at Fife & Drum and stayed in The Conservancy. It was so wonderful and relaxing...the room was beautiful and so comfortable. Breakfast each morning was delicious and the owners were very accommodating. The B&B is in a perfect location and we enjoyed trying many of the nearby restaurants in Market Square as well as getting to go on many walks in a Colonial Williamsburg. We had a perfect weekend and can't wait to stay here again.

We always stay at the Fife and Drum when in Williamsburg. Mr. Scruggs and staff have been consistently professional and courteous, each and every visit. The Fife is the best bang for your buck and more. It is located within walking distance to the entire historic area and Market Square shopping/dining. Just park the car, leave it and walk the rest of your visit. The prices are more than fair for the cleanliness, hospitality, gorgeous and cozy atmosphere. We especially enjoy the boutique inn nature of the Fife. That is, there are beds, they serve breakfast, but you are NOT in someone's home with an innkeeper that holds you hostage with conversation. We love that they seem to be attuned to those who want to be left alone and those who want to tell their life stories. We have stayed in both the Webster Hitchens room as well as the Cedars Suite. Both excellent. Great bathrooms, water pressure, steamy showers. Webster room is sunnier, harder to take an afternoon nap if the light bothers you. Cedars Suite is perfect for seclusion and quiet despite being right at the top of the stair well. We have stayed over the years at the following, all walking distance, our #1 desire: Quarterpath Inn (perfunctory, a little scary/seedy, super cheap), Sheraton (cleanish, stupid crowded continental breakfast, allows dogs bark bark), Aldrich House (excellent as well, my #2 choice, just prefer other end of the district) Williamsburg Colonial Houses ($$$$$$, so painful/hot/uncomfortable. Never. again.), Williamsburg Woodlands (fine. boring. hard beds) I have never stayed at the "premiere property", The Williamsburg Inn. Even I shudder at those prices. And after shelling out major bucks for the colonial houses, frankly, I don't trust them to deliver the comfort/quality that one should absolutely expect for the prices that they charge here. Eat dinner or have tea there, stay at the Fife so you can afford to play as well as stay in Williamsburg.

We have stayed here before. Very conveniently located to the historical section and very friendly staff. We will stay there again when we return to Williamsburg.
4.4 on December 27, 2013
Enjoyed our weekend get-away. The location is perfect and the cost though high is commensurate with most B&B.

This is a perfect place to stay for a visit to Colonial Williamsburg if you prefer walking to the sights to a bus.
4.6 on December 27, 2013
My husband and I wanted a quick weekend retreat away from the craziness of real life where we could focus on just the two of us. The Fife and Drum Inn was the perfect location. I had never stayed in a bed and breakfast before but now I am a lover of them! The Fife and Drum was so cozy and the owners were very friendly and welcoming. The other guest were nice as well. Our room was cozy and romantic. Perfect for the getaway we needed. Breakfast at the Inn was delicious as well! They served country ham biscuits and bacon, fresh fruit, bread pudding and great coffee. My husband and I were very pleased and will definitely use the Fife and Drum for lodging in the future.

We have traveled to Williamsburg twice a year for the past 4 years and we always stay at this wonderful B&B. The location is perfect ... we can park the car and leave it, walking to Merchants Square and Colonial Williamsburg. The Inn itself is beautiful and each room has a different motif. You can't go wrong staying here!
4.6 on December 05, 2013
We chose the Fife and Drum for the location (which is perfect), but found that it is much more than that. We splurged on the suite with the king-size bed and could not have been more pleased. It was simply lovely. Drinks and cookies were always available, and even the sitting room felt like home. Everyone at the Fife and Drum was warm and welcoming and we will definitely be back!

4.4 on November 21, 2013
We stayed in the George Washington Room, which was lovely and extremely comfortable. Every morning we had a different breakfast casserole to try and also enjoyed the biscuits and fruit that were available every day. The location is perfect if you plan to spend most of your time in the Colonial area. The shuttle picks up a couple of blocks from the inn and most places are within walking distance. We did not have to drive anywhere.
5 on November 20, 2013
We stayed at the Fife and Drum Inn over the weekend and we couldn't have been happier! This B&B is in a wonderful location, right next to William and Mary's campus and about a block away from the main 'drag' of Colonial Williamsburg. Billy, one of the owners was very helpful in providing us with directions and recommendations of what to do while we were visiting. The rooms were perfect in size, with comfortable beds with the softest sheets I have every slept in! The breakfasts were delicious and I appreciated the snacks and cookies that were made available to guests at all times. I will definitely stay at the Fife and Drum Inn next time I come to Williamsburg and will recommend it to all of my friends!

My husband & I spent two nights at the Fife & Drum on a mid-week getaway. The inkeeper, Billy, is very helpful with recommendations for things to do and places to visit. The inn is lovely, with the best location in Williamsburg. Easy to walk & bike through the historic area, Market Square, the college and lots of great restaurants. Rooms are very nice with first class amenities and the breakfasts are great. It was my second visit to the Fife & Drum and we will defintiely return.

Stayed here in November 2013. Location of this Williamsburg B&B is fantastic. Close to some great little restaurants and shopping in the sq, as well as W&M campus. Most the rooms seem to be about the same. Small and cozy, but plenty of sleeping capacity. We didn't spend much time watching, but TV's were old and small (13" or so) with VHS. Free wifi was convenient and fast. Our bathroom was great - small, but updated very nicely. Only complaint we had was the place gets a bit noisy in the morning as businesses open downstairs and people wake-up - more so than other B&B's we've stayed at. Didn't try any of the food, but appeared to be pretty decent. Owners and staff were very nice, professional, and helpful. I would stay here again.
5 on November 06, 2013
Best location in town. Billy and Sharon (owners) are great people. Stairs from street level to rooms are not a plus. Elderly and handicapped could have issues. Overall, had a wonderful visit.
2.2 on November 01, 2013
We so looked forward to our two nights in this property, and were sorely disappointed. We had booked the Restoration suite. Both nights, the room was too noisy for us to sleep for more than a half hour at a time. We were repeatedly awakened what appeared to be some sort of heavy machinery (the HVAC on the roof?) cycling on and off loudly every few minutes with so much noise that it rattled the walls, window frames and small items on the dresser. My husband estimates, based on his work with sound, that the noise reached, at the peak of each cycle, about 100 decibels. And there were several cycles per hour. We complained to the innkeeper, but the problem continued. He did unplug the noisy icemaker from an adjacent wall, but the heavy machinery noise continued. We had told the innkeeper we intended to go back to bed after breakfast and try to catch up on missed sleep (instead of the lovely day we had planned sightseeing), but he neglected to tell housekeeping, and we were awakened by his banging on our door. We are neither of us light sleepers, and once slept through a police emergency next door to our house. But this was awful. We arrived home sleep deprived and $423 poorer, our long-anticipated three-day holiday ruined, without even an apology from the innkeeper. This is not the standard I have come to expect from bedandbreakfast.com properties, (especially one that describes itself on the back-of-door card as of the standard of "first class hotels") and the first time I have been other than completely satisfied at a b&b. I do not know what recourse I have for this ruined and expensive holiday, but I'd advise others to think twice before booking here, at least in the Restoration suite. At least if you intend to sleep.

Our experience at the Fife and Drum could not have been better. The hosts went above and beyond to help us plan our day and recommended wonderful places to eat. Breakfasts were delicious and staff friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in was beautiful and clean. The sheets were very soft and cozy and the bed was better than the one we have at home ( and I love the bed we have at home). If you stay here you will not be disappointed.

Overall it was a great stay at the Fife & Drum and you simply can't beat the location for easy access to everything in Downtown Williamsburg. The only negative is the wooden floors as you can hear people coming in and out during all hours. It's small and quaint and certainly worth the price.

Lovely little cottage in a very convenient position for exploring Colonial Williamsburgh. They only problem for us was the breakfast. Coffee machine but no kettle even thought tea bags provided. Cartons of orange juice and not very nice pastries left the day before. Would have been much nicer if we could have had breakfast in the main pat of the Inn.
3.0 on August 23, 2013
We loved the convenient location; however, be aware that this is a second floor property and has no elevator. We were pleased with the helpfulness and responsiveness of the Owner/Manager, Billy Scruggs, and with the really good breakfasts offered. We were not pleased that the plumbing needs some updating. The toilets continually plugged up - sometimes with nothing in them but water. We thought this was a problem for only our room (since we had a toilet plunger conveniently located in the bathroom) and mentioned to the Manager - who promised to look into it - but discovered that the other rooms also had a toilet plunger in each bathroom, We believe the issue was not unique to our room. The really nice thing was that we were only a five to ten minutes walk - sometimes less than that - from just about everything Williamsburg Historic District has to offer. If they can get that plumbing thing under control, we would go back and would recommend it - but for now with the foregoing cautions.
2.8 on August 21, 2013
The bed was extremely comfortable, and the shower was great. The chairs in the sitting room were very uncomfortable and the TV was very small. The innkeepers were very helpful with suggestions, especially regarding local dining and attractions. The downside is the rooms are on the second floor which means you need to climb steps to get to your room, for most people it isn't an issue unless you have very bad knees and have been walking all day!!!! All in all it was a pleasant experience.
5 on August 21, 2013
The B&B is in the Merchant's Square area one block from historic area. Easy walk to all. Food was exceptional and decore fits right in with Williamsburg. Staff was great and very attentive. Love our stay at the Fife & Drum. Price was about the same to stay at one of the chain hotels in the area. It's great for couples without kids. Quite, very clean, great decor, and the staff was very helpful. Tasty, homemade breakfast as well. The best part it's so close to Colonial Williamsburg, only a short walk.

All was well done with the exception of breakfast and afternoon coffee. Breakfast is scheduled for one hour only which is somewhat rigid for travelers who are trying to relax. The buffet was very limited and not very creative. We came for coffee in the afternoon but it was already gone and they only had instant coffee to offer. Other than that, everything was wonderful!

I would recommend this B&B to anyone visiting Williamsburg.

We had a very nice anniversary weekend here. We had never stayed at a B and B before and were quite impressed! The rooms were very modern and the bathroom was updated. The tv was small but we were barely in the room to watch it. The breakfast was good too. The owners were lovely people and were very hospitable. I recommend the B and B to any first timers because it is more like a hotel that serves breakfast!

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Fyfe & Drum Inn at the end of June, 2013. Billy and team were superb, the room (the Conservancy) more than lived up to the recommendation given to it by Frommers. The location is perfect and parking is right at hand. A lovely experience and highly recommended.

Great B&B in the middle of everything in Williamsburg. Owner was a great guy. Very helpful. Room was clean. Food was good. Walking distance to the shuttle service for Colonial Williamsburg. Can't say enough the Fife and Drum. Definitely would stay there again.

I traveled to Williamsburg to visit/tour William and Mary with my son. Location can't be beat! Less than a block to W&M Admissions and close to all shops and restaurants. Ease in parking was appreciated. Billy greeted us with a smile - he knows no stranger! Our room (The William and Mary room) was spacious enough to accommodate an air mattress which Fife and Drum provided. Sink in room - versus in the bathroom - made it easier for two of us to get ready in the morning. Breakfast - yummy! The Fife and Drum is a great home-away-home in Williamsburg!

We had a great visit! LOVED our room and the great breakfasts! Also the afternoon cookies. We felt well-taken care of and really appreciated how close we were to everything.

The T.V.was very small and with us being in our 70"s it was hard to see. We would of loved to had another chair because with two people in the room it is hard sitting on the bed when you retire for the evening at our age. Other then these two things we enjoyed our stay. Thanks!!!

During our recent visit, we stayed in the Richneck room. The room was on the small side, but it was a lovely weekend with so much to do, so we didn’t spend much time in the room. The location of the Inn is in the historic old town and is perfect if you are visiting either the Market Square shops or Colonial Williamsburg. The lemonade and cookies in the common area are a nice touch after a couple of hours of sightseeing. The room had nice comfy robes, lots of fresh towels, and a great breakfast. The room was quiet for its location near the common room, but we did hear the staff setting up for breakfast in the morning. Not a lot of guests showed up for breakfast so there appeared to be plenty of food. We had no complaints with our recent stay, but some recommendations. The vents in the rooms and common areas should be cleaned. There was noticeable dirt and grime around the vents. The only seating chair in the room appeared dirty perhaps from use as a luggage rack. Another sturdy chest for luggage and a smaller, more comfortable chair for seating would improve the room. The TVs are creatively located in hand-made bird houses, but they are dated, small and difficult to view from the bed. The bathroom mirror is mounted very high which is fine if you’re tall, but not so great if you’re not. Maybe a mirror that swivels up and down would accommodate all guests (including children). The ice machine was broken and there is no staff on duty after 4pm to report it to. We were going to use the Fife & Drum parking lot, but the concrete parking stops were all askew making parking difficult in an already overflowing lot. Our visit was on a Sunday and Monday, which was a holiday, so parking on the street was not an issue. We like this Inn for its location. We will visit again.

We stayed for two nights in the Hitchens room at the Fife and Drum Inn. We would have stayed longer if rooms would have been available. Everything about our stay was wonderful. The owner was very accommodating and helpful. He helped us carry our luggage in, made dinner reservations for us and spent time helping us to decide which attractions to see and when to see them. The breakfasts that were served had a very nice variety and were hot and delicious. The coffee was great!! Our room was very clean, comfortable, and quiet. The Inn is located on the perimeter of Colonial Williamsburg so we were able to walk wherever we wanted to go. I would highly recommend the Fife and Drum Inn. You will be glad that you stayed there.

We came down from Wash, DC by train and walked to the Bed & Breakfast. It was easy to find and right by all the shops/restaurants. The purpose of our trip was for my girlfriend's birthday & ultimately, engagement. The B&B reps had flowers and champagne on the ready for us. They even went out of their way to take use through the map of Williamsburg of where to go & when to go there (avoid crowds). And I have to mention, they even booked us at the 2 best restaurants in town a month before we arrived (our favorite ... Fat Canary). Highly recommend "the Conservatory" room with the little clawed tub in middle of the room. Oh, and she said, "Yes!"

In addition to the best location in Williamburg (in Merchant's Square, steps away from Colonial Williamsburg in one direction and the College of William and Mary in the other) this fine establishment boasts modern rooms with colonial furnishings and a friendly and accommodating staff. We have stayed here numerous times during our son's career at the College, and it always has been a delight!

Fife and Drum is within walking distance to all the attractions of Colonial Williamsburg, restaurants, and shopping. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Breakfast consisted of a hot casserole, biscuits with ham or bacon and granola along with fruit, coffee, tea, etc. Not quite as lavish as some of the other inns we have visited but delicious nonetheless. Would have appreciated more interaction with owners as to their recommendations for tours, dinners, etc. We were shown to our room and then left to our own devices. The next morning we again had breakfast and left to find our own way. Not a big problem but we always enjoy chatting with the owners and hearing their recommendations since they ususally know the area so well.

This is a charming B&B in a great location, you are literally steps from Colonial Williamsburg. The room we had was the George Washington, it was immaculately clean with a mega comfortable king size bed and a massive shower. Billy the owner made us feel very welcome right down to the help yourself cookies. Breakfast was fine. I would recommend anyone thinking of a stay in Williamsburg to stop here. PS try the Dog Street Pub for lunch or dinner & drinks.

We have been staying at the Fife and Drum Inn for many years, and have always had such wonderful times. This trip we stayed in the Cedars Suite, which may be our favorite, along with the Webster-Hitchens room. The innkeepers are so knowledgeable about the area, and one of the most outstanding things about the inn is its location. You walk out the door and into history, as Colonial Williamsburg is a block away. The inn is also located across the street from the College of William and Mary, and many wonderful restaurants and shops. The inn is small, charming and perfectly located. We love this inn, and you will too.

Room was next to the kitchen and you could hear breakfast preperations. The sink in bathroom was fitted into a corner and mirror was on flat wall next to it, made it awkward for shaving. Overall the room was very nice.

We booked a romantic getaway with my boyfriend in the Concervancy. The canopied bed was breathtaking, room is small (well you expect it in this historic property), but the shower was huge and modern. Nice bedding and impeccable towels. The bath tub in the room is a unique touch, and we really wanted to use it, but it did take miracles of flexibility. The tub is really small even for one person, and if it wasn't for my bf's workouts and my yoga sessions - there is no way that would be possible. Billy is very hospitable and helpful, gives great advice on what to do in town. I would appreciate a little bit more variety at breakfast (one day it was bread pudding as main dish, no eggs, and I don't like to eat sweet things for breakfast, so I was a bit upset). They do provide free parking which is such a huge help! There are great places to eat and shop just across the street. Overall very impressed. My bf said that from now on I will be the one always choosing the hotels for us to stay in, and that says a lot!

My husband and I really enjoyed staying at the Fife & Drum Inn. We chose it due to its wonderful location in the Colonial Williamsburg Merchant Square area, but were equally happy with the rooms, breakfast, and helpful & friendly owner, Billy Scruggs. Did I mention how quiet it was?! The Inn is an easy walk to everything....... including the college of William & Mary - witch is a great place to start an early morning walk while waiting for breakfast to be served. The breakfast exceeded my expectations. When I read it would be buffet-style, I imagined slightly warmed, typical breakfast foods........ not so! Very delicious, warm, 'comfort-breakfast foods' like cinnamon bread pudding and frittata, biscuits and fruit awaited us - all very good and hearty! p.s. cookies and lemonade 24/7!

My daughter and I stayed at the Fife & Drum for 2 nights in March 2013. It was our second trip to Williamsburg and our second stay at this lovely inn. The location cannot be beat (for both Colonial Williamsburg and the College of William & Mary) and the owners and staff are so friendly and kind. Very comfortable, attractive inn. We love the Fife & Drum and highly recommend it!

This was my second stay and the Fife & Drum Inn, and it was just as amazing as the first. The location is unbeatable (within walking distance to all Col. My wife and I spent two nights at the F&D and plan on going back. Conveniently located to Colonial Williamsburg and the College of W&M, as well as in the midst of numerous restaurants and shopping, the Inn is very quiet, clean, and enjoyable. No need to worry about parking. The owner was very helpful in terms of restaurant and sightseeing recommendations. The breakfast was fine. There is also a wonderful coffeshop right next door that is open late. We had a great time and plan on returning.

We have stayed at the Fife and Drum dozens of times. WE LOVE IT! It is very quiet and relaxing and the service is excellent. Every time we make reservations to stay there, my husband immediately says "I can't wait to eat their breakfast buffet!". The location could not be better. There are tons of things to do and see right outside the front door. Highly recommend!

The stay at the Fife and Drum was really fun. The beds were very comfortable and the breakfast was outstanding. The layout was very unique and very cute. The hall was made to look like a street with doors to individual homes (rooms). The only thing that was a bit of a surprise was that the entire B & B is up a flight of stairs. So, just be ready to take luggage up - but they will assist. Would stay here again in a minute!!!!!

Perfect location for visitors to Colonial Williamsburg. Off-street reserved parking available right around the corner. No need to drive anywhere. The owner, Billy, will be happy to provide suggestions on what to see and do if you ask. The Inn in on the second floor, and stairs are the only way to get up there. However, Billy offered to help my wife and I with our bags when we arrived and when we were leaving, so help will be available for those who might need it. Jamestown room was clean and cozy. Breakfast offerings exceeded expectations, but there are plenty of other places to eat breakfast right outside the door of the Inn if you want to get a more substantial meal. We would definitely stay here again!

My wife and I travel to Williamsburg at least once or twice a year and this is the perfect spot for us. The proprietors are friendly and knowledgeable about the community, and eager enough to serve that they will go table-to-table during breakfast to make suggestions for how to spend your day. The rooms are cozy and full of character, and the location is unbelievable. Step out the front door of the Fife & Drum and you are a five-minute walk from the historic buildings on Duke of Gloucester Street and at least seven or eight terrific restaurants. You can park just across the street. There are less expensive hotels in the community, but nothing that puts you right in the middle of the Williamsburg experience the way the Fife & Drum Inn does.

After a long drive from NW Pennsylvania, I arrived to find a beautiful room with four poster bed, lovely linens and a very nicely appointed bathroom. Breakfast was served in a dining area from a sideboard with fresh quiche, southern biscuits and ham, fresh fruit and delicious coffee. The dining area also has an adjacent reading area which is as wonderful place to spend the late afternoon reading. The Fife and Drum is located in the heart of Merchant's Square and across the street from William and Mary. It is within a short walk to Colonial Williamsburg, thus ideally suited to those who like to walk and explore what the area has to offer. This is a lovely spot to spend a weekend!

What is not to like? The room was excellent, the breakfast was excellent and the location is outstanding - a quick walk and you are in the thick of it all! Perhaps the best part for us was the graciousness of our hosts - in talking to both of them I realized that our exploration of Williamsburg had already begun as they each would tell us some of the back stories in such a way that you feel you are talking to historians! Anyway, delightful visit and a highly recommend. Grab the room with the gate if you can!

We thoroughly enjoyed our three-day stay at the Fife and Drum. It is situated in the historic area of Williamsburg and is within walking distance of all Colonial Williamsburg events. A perfect Christmas get away. Located directly in Colonial Williamsburg, the inn is convenient to all of the Williamsburg Christmas pageantry. Thw owners are very friendly, like familiy. We recommend the near by Retros for a quick bite or the Blue Talon Bistro across the street for a romantic bistro dinner.

Great location, perfect size for a small family! Very friendly and accommodating Inn Keepers, we arrived late because of traffic and they followed their posted late arrival policy to a T. The Drummer's Cottage far exceeded our expectations. The proximity to the Colonial area and Merchant's Square can not be beat. We have stayed at other similar priced hotels on earlier visits to Williamsburg and were never as happy as we were on this trip at the Fife and Drum Inn.

The Fife & Drum is an outstanding B&B with some big hotel amenities without being big. The location is superlative and the service for us was a perfect blend of taking care of us and privacy.

We stayed at the Fife and Drum Inn, specifically in the Drummers Cottage. The location is great - between the colonial area and William and Mary. Walk to everything. The innkeepers are extremely friendly and helpful. The cottage is very clean, and cutely laid out and furnished. The configuration is a beautiful master bedroom with a very comfortable king-size bed, 2 built in bunk beds in an alcove off the hallway, and a main sitting area/entry room with a pull out couch. The bathroom is very clean and roomy, though there is only one - and the shower and toilet are together, so if someone's showering, others may have to 'wait.' The sink, with large vanity, is outside the shower/toilet room. There is not a tub. Visitors in the cottage do not get the 'breakfast' part of the B&B. They deliver pastries each day (we had tiny blueberry muffins, and slices of what seemed like Entennmann's pastry), and there is coffee and tea in the cottage to make, like in a hotel. NOTE: the coffee maker is tiny - like in a hotel...for a party of 5 adult women - this was not enough!. Fortunately, there is a great coffee shop called Aroma's just steps away, that serves good coffee, as well as a selection of breakfast goodies, on up to full breakfast platters. (Aroma's also does lunch and dinner - everything we had there was good). Definitely recommend.

This was our third stay at the Fife and Drum Inn, and we will return next time we're in Williamsburg. Owners Billy and Sharon are a wealth of information about both "old" and "new" Williamsburg, having both grown up here, and their appreciation for the history of the town and its restoration is infectious. The Inn is located within walking distance of the restored area, the College of William and Mary, and lots of great shopping, and its location is the reason we keep going back. The rooms are nice and well decorated, and the common area/dining room is spacious and beautiful. The Fife and Drum Inn is a great place to stay in Colonial Williamsburg!

This B&B is so close to Colonial Williamsburg and Market Square we were able to park our car on Sunday and didn't need it again until packing up to head home. The innkeeper, Billy, always has lots of great hints of where to eat and ideas of what to see if you are looking for something a little different. Breakfast was always warm and yummy with plenty of coffee. I also recommend the lemonade (available all day) and a game of checkers in the common area. Lots of little touches made it a nice place to stay.

The Fife and Drum is ideally located near Colonial Williamsburg. We arrived on Friday, parked in their lot , and did not have to drive again until we left on Sunday. The rooms are very comfortably furnished and the breakfast is quite good. Their coffee could be a bit stronger to suit our taste, but a small negative for a very pleasant and well loctaed establishment..

This was our first Bed and Breakfast experience. We were pleasantly surprised by the welcoming staff and clean rooms, however, the rooms are starting to show wear and tear. Our bed post had a post topper missing, the candle stick light fixture on the wall was cracked and dangling in need of simple repair. The amenities were delightful but not restocked after our first night, which was annoying since we packed light for a quick two night stay. The location of the Fife and Drum can't be beat! It was so nice to make a quick run back to our rooms to change or drop off shopping bags without trying to negotiate parking and wasting time traveling to a hotel. If we return to Williamsburg and I can find a deal on this Inn again, we will stay there .

We met two other couples who we had not seen for 20 years at the Fife and Drum. It was the perfect place. Within walking distance of wonderful restaurants and the historical district. The staff accommodated us in every way which made our stay and our reunion better than we could have expected. We already knew it had wonderful character and history with each room decorated in a unique way. To my surprise, the rooms were very quiet even with the traffic nearby. There was easy loading and unloading of luggage and assigned parking for guests. There are several steps to go up and down at the entry so if you have special needs I would call ahead.

The location, just off the Williamsburg Historic area, was super. We enjoy walking to the attractions. The owners recommended restaurants nearby in Merchants Square, rather than in the Historic area. We agree, Berrets, The Trellis, Mad Dog, and Seasons, were a cut above our single meal in the Historic Area. Based upon the location, cost, and rooms, we will return again.

It was a dark and rainy day in Williamsburg. We were wet and needed a place to rest. Billy was so kind (actually took pity on us) and let us register early thus letting us spend a quiet and restful afternoon reading in a beautiful and comfortable room until the rain hesitated. This was our fourth trip to Williamsburg and will be remembered very fondly. We will return.

We loved the Fife and Drum Inn. The location is absolutely perfect, but the owners go above and beyond to meet their guests needs. The rooms are lovely with decent sized bathrooms for a b & b. Breakfast was only served from 8am-9am each day, but it was a very limited buffet. A hot casserole, fruit salad, bacon and wonderful biscuits. I do have a few suggestions. The pillows in our room were rather limp and there was only a nightstand and lamp on one side of the bed. Finally there was limited space in the bathroom to set your toiletries. We loved the inn and will return when we are next in town. It was so nice to park our car in the Fife and Drum lot and easily walk to Colonial Williamsburg and to the College of William and Mary. We went to the wonderful Farmers Market Saturday morning and easily take our purchases back to our room. We had dinner at the Trellis, again so convenient.

Our room was an unusual shape and as such it was not well set out as the other rooms. The Inn was quiet on our last night and we were able to look at the other romms that were beautifully set out. The breakfast was disappointing. There was no toast nor an egg in any guise to be seen. But what we were given which was probably traditional to that part of the country was well prepared.

If one is considering a visit to historic Williamsburg one could not find a more convenient location to stay than the Fife & Drum Inn. Located directly behind Market Square and just minutes off the main historic street, the Fife & Drum is a perfect location. Rooms are comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast served is more than adequate to provide energy for a morning's historic adventure. We are pleased that we discovered the Fife & Drum and look forward to other stays while exploring Williamsburg. Mike & Linda McGraw

We did not spend a lot of time in the room, so its little deficiencies (no place to leave one's towels to hang and dry; no bedside table on one side of the queen bed; not enough space for three people's toiletries in the bath) were insignificant compared to the wonderful owners, the great breakfasts, the common room where our families (9 of us total) could meet, gab, etc. The young man handling most of the breakfast service even moved up the time at which coffee appeared, when he noticed two of us looking for it earlier in the morning than originally expected. Do not hesitate to stay here!

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights over Labor Day weekend. We arrived after check-in, so our key cards were in an envelope marked with our names and taped to the door. Also in the envelope was a welcome letter including directions to our room and instructions about parking our car. We were able to explore the house (including all but one of the other rooms, which was occupied at the time.) The rooms and hallways were decorated very nicely in a colonial style (including having the TVs hidden in a "birdhouse" - so cute) The bathroom areas included a separate room each for the toilet, sink, and stone-tile shower. Very convenient and also decorated nicely. In the morning, we met the owner, who was super friendly and offered us help with planning our visit. The breakfast offered was simple, but delicious (bisquits and fresh fruit, as well as bacon, a quiche-like selection, a variety of cereals, and milk, orange juice, and coffee). There were chocolate chip cookies and lemonade available in the common room 24/7 (scrumptious!!). In the common room, there were the dining tables, a sofa and chairs, books and pamphlets about the area, history, and attractions, a flat-screen TV, and a checkers board. There were umbrellas available, also (which we were very thankful for on our last night, because it was pouring when we had to leave to walk to dinner at a local tavern). There was an ice machine and a back porch to sit on. It was also an extremely convenient location - only one block over from the Duke of Gloucester Street, which is the main street for the colonial events and buildings. Overall, we LOVED our stay at the Fife and Drum and plan to visit again. I said we need to come every year and stay in a different room each time until we experience them all!

Located right on the edge of Merchants' Square, adjacent to the WIlliam and mary campass and within a block of the restored area, the inn was perfect. We left our car in the hotel lot for the duration of our stay and easily walked everywhere. The host has lived in Williamsburg forever and so is a good guide to where to begin. Our room was very comfortable, quiet and COOL, with a lovely deep bath tub. The only caveat is that the inn is upstairs in a retail block so make sure your suitcase isn't too heavy!

Billy provided a personalized stay with dinner reservations, wine and flowers in the room, etc. His superlative descriptions of what to do and see made the weekend complete. We go to Williamsburg frequently for short getaway's and we still saw and learned things we didn't know about the area. I recomend the Fife and Drum to anyone looking for a quiet private place to getaway to and relax.

Extremely well situated for exploring Williamsburg and close to very smart shops and food outlets. Although we arrived within the designated check in times of 3 to 5pm there were no staff to greet us- an envelope stuck on the door had keys. We only found tea and coffee making facilities and general information via another guest. We also found the owner rather patronising to women (mother and daughter travelling together). Having said that, location and quality of rooms means I would thoroughly recommend it and would stay there again.

The B&B was so cute, SO clean, Billy was so helpful, and the location was great. 2 minute walk to Campus restaurants and Merchant's Square was right outside your door. Loved it.

Our family (which consists of 2 college aged daughters, a 12 year old son, plus mom & dad) wanted to have a quick get away before the girls headed back to college. We decided to try something different. While my husband & I have stayed in numerous B&B's, it was all new for the kids! What a wonderful four days we had in the warm setting of this beautifully appointed inn. Sharon & Billy were wonderful and steered us to a perfect setting for our family. We stayed in two rooms across the hall from each other & it was PERFECT! During the day, we could keep the doors open and it felt like a rather large suite. We started each morning with a delicious breakfast with a good variety of items offered. You definitely got a great start to your day. Then, Billy & Sharon helped us make plans for the day. Being from Williamsburg themselves, they definitely know the highlights to hit, based on how many days your stay will include. We had fun filled days & evenings --- thanks to their advice. How wonderful it was to return to the inn after a long day at either Colonial Williamsburg or Busch Gardens to fresh baked cookies & lemonade each night! Not a single things was not well thought out and geared towards making the guests at the inn feel at home during their stay. We will definitely return to our "home away from home" in Colonial Williamsburg each time we travel to the area!

We live only 25 miles away but wanted to take a brief getaway for our anniversary. We were greeted cordially by our host, offered refreshments, and given information about local activities for the day, Then we were shown to our room. It was spacious, comfortable, and clean. The bath area was very well set up with a powerful shower, which was great after a hot day. Breakfast the next morning was delicious with many offerings. We'll stay here again, soon!

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely old B&B in Williamsburg. The location is the number one attribute. We just walked right out on the street of this lovely, historical old city. The Fife&Drum's decor matches the historically matches its city. We enjoyed the breakfasts and the warm welcome from Rhonda. Cookies and lemonade were offered as well as the loan of much needed umbrellas the weekend we were there. If we visit Williamsburg again, we will stay at the Fife&Drum.

The Fife and Drum Inn is in a great location-- walking distance to all of the Williamsburg attractions, shopping, and dining. Billy and Sharon, the innkeepers, were very helpful with suggestions for our visit-- things to see and do, dining options ,etc... Breakfast was great each morning-- a sweet or savory casserole that changed each day, fresh fruit , biscuits with Virginia ham, jam, granola, orange juice, coffee/ tea/ milk. Cookies, bagged chips, crackers, and lemonade available in the afternoons and evenings. We enjoyed our stay very much and would return to the Fife and Drum Inn.

Exactly as we expected! Passing through the Jamestown/Yorktown,Williamsburg areas, this B & B is in a very convenient central Williamsburg location. Easy to find, precise instructions regarding (local) off-site parking lot, very good restaurants steps from the front door, perfect for a stroll around the centre of this very pleasant town. Room, breakfast and hospitality were extremely good for our one night stay, would choose to stay again if ever in the area.

The Fife and Drum is now our most favorite B&B/Hotel (and we have stayed at quite a few!). Ideal historic location, very friendly and helpful, delicious food. The inn itself is cosy, clean, and beautifully restored. Our family (including my young son) really enjoyed it. We can't wait to go back!

The Fife and Drum was a perfect check for us in Williamsburg. It is literally a few steps from colonial Williamsburg. Restaurants, coffee shop, retail, are also on the same block. The room was large, clean and the bed comfortable. We were in the George Washington room and had a little noise from the adjacent stairway but really not a problem. As the rooms are on the second floor you do need to carry your bags up the stairs. Don't know how this would be with children but it was perfect for us, a 50 something couple, no kids with us. Innkeepers welcoming and kind. We will recommend Fife and Drum to our friends

My husband and I recently celebrated our anniversary in Williamsburg, VA. We chose the Fife and Drum Inn because of the amazingly inexpensive room prices. I must say, that even though we didn't spend much money on our room, it looked and felt as if we spent $1,000 for a full week's vacation! The ammenities were great and the owners of the Inn were very friendly and made us feel at home. The only issue I had with the Fife and Drum Inn was their buffet breakfast they served in the morning. I believed the food selection wasn't quite to my liking. My husband, on the other hand, was a very big fan of the buffet. I think this criticiam is mostly one of personal taste in breakfast food and shouldn't reflect poorly on the Inn. Overall, the Fife and Drum Inn is a wonderful place to stay if you are seeking an intimate, money-saving place to stay in Williamsburg, VA. I highly recommend it to anyone and I hope other customers enjoy their stay as much as my husband and I did!

My husband had never taken an overnight trip away from our 2 year old triplets. We love Williamsburg and so we decided to sneak away for a night to celebrate our anniversary. There were a lot of hotels to choose from but Fife and Drum Inn was the best location. We had, had a terrible experience with a different Bed & Breakfast so were very weary. As soon as we walked in we felt relaxed and relieved! It was quaint and extremely clean! The staff is very sweet and accommodating! We did not have the opportunity to eat there however it smelled delicious! Highly recommend!

We stayed at The Fife & Drum Inn on our honeymoon & loved it so much, we came back when we celebrated our 1 year anniversary! It's in a great little area, just a short walk to anywhere in Colonial Williamsburg. It's always clean, cozy & romantic! Great customer service! Breakfast is always delicious! If you need to know anything just ask- Billy & Sharon can answer you! They know so much of the history of the area & just wonderful people to talk to! More amenities in the room than most 5-star hotels! My husband and I stopped at the Williamsburg Winery for a wine tasting on our way up & bought a small bottle of wine. The rooms have an ice bucket and 2 small drinking glasses in the room already, so that's what we used for our wine. We didn't finish it all our first night and when room service came & cleaned our room the next day they left us 2 wine glasses in addition to the 2 new regular drinking glasses usually in the room!! Just an example of the personal service they give you & the little things that make such a big difference!! If you're looking to stay somewhere in Williamsburg- look no further!

This was our third B&B experience. The room was nice but a bit sparsely furnished. We understand this is in keeping with the colonial era, but having two night stands, for instance, would've been nice. Also, a bit more lighting would have been helpful. The shower consisted of the hand-held style -- not really to our liking. The mirror in the bathroom was hung so high, it was impossible to apply make-up -- had to use the full-length mirror in the bedroom (which is where extra lighting would've been nice!). The room was nice and clean, though, as was all of the B&B! The service was excellent and ALL of the staff were extremely helpful and knowledgeable! It was also nice to know that, no matter how many times we went somewhere in our car, we had a parking spot to come back to. Honestly, the only rather disappointing feature of our experience was the food. We were there for three breakfasts and the same thing was served two days in a row. The food was tasty -- it's just that the other B&B's we've visited served something new and different each day and that's what we were expecting. Fortunately, we liked the dishes that were served (they were "O.K."). If we hadn't, we would've gone without. Overall, it was a nice B&B and we enjoyed our stay. The location, right where "all the action is", is perfect! You can walk to oodles of attractions, shops and restaurants!

Very helpful owner who sent us to the BEST place for dinner, and told us about other important events. The location was perfect, so that was a big, big plus. We could walk everywhere. The breakfast biscuits were very disappointing, especially for a "southern" experience.
4.6 on May 14, 2012
Very warm and friendly people run this bed and breakfast. The breakfast was excellent with a special dish prepared each day. Cleanliness is outstanding. Rooms (at least the Washington) and bathroom is a little small but acceptable. The TV in the room is ancient and about a 12" with, of all things, a VIDEO TAPE recorder/player. Subscription to a variety of channels., although one does not spend a great deal of time in the room. Access to the Colonial area is within walking distance as well as bus stops. The bus is free. If we visit Williamsburg again, will we stay at the Fife and Drum. YES!
5 on May 11, 2012
We were given a gift certificate by our children & decided it was time to use it. We couldn't have been happier with their choice. The owner of the Fife & Drum greeted us very warmly & even took our bags to our room. Parking is provided for their patrons in a lot around the corner. We loved our room....clean, historic and very comfortable. Breakfast was provided but we decided to "sleep in" during our stay and eat breakfast at one of the variious restaurants. We were very glad that everything was located within walking distance of the inn....and if it was not, we could use the buses provided throughout town. We firmly believe that when you start out in a good mood your vacation seems to stay that way. Thanks to our beginning at the Fife & Drum we had an extroadinary vacation. They are to be complemented. Nice folks, great location, thorough knowledge of the area. Can't recommend it enough. The owners know the area inside-out and can easily recommend what to do in the area and the best way to go about doing it. They also possess a great knowledge of the local restaurants and where/when to go. Strongly recommend this place.

We recently stayed at the Fife and Drum Inn while we visited Williamsburg and our daughter who is a student at William and Mary. Our room and the common room felt very homey. It allowed us space to visit with our daughter and relax while we enjoyed the colonial area. The location could not be more perfect! The breakfasts were delicious, the beds were very comfortable, and the hospitality by Billy and the staff was very warm for us, and our daughter. We would definitely stay here again!

This B&B is probably the best we have ever stayed in. The owners and staff were warm and welcoming as well as being very professional. The inn and rooms were large for a B&B, extremely clean and the attention to detail from check-in to room decorations was amazing. We will definately be back.

Perfect location for sightseeing Colonial Williamsburg and visiting the College of Wm & Mary, without the need for a car or taxi, each within a short 2 block walk. Room was very clean, well appointed with period furnishings. Breakfast was hot and filling. Proprietors were very knowledgable about local sightseeing options and college visits. Only concern was B&B signage is small and difficult to find. Would definitely stay here again.

This Inn was a great find. Excellent location, superbly clean rooms, and an excellent staff. The only thing that was lacking was the breakfast. Don't get me wrong, the food WAS really good (the coffee was really good too), but let me explain it like this. My wife and I love big breakfasts, and it was just lacking in choice/value. We ate there the first morning, but the second morning we ducked out to the diner next door. We weren't the only people staying at the inn to do that too. It really just comes down to your preference. Other than that, I'd recommend this place, if for anything else, for it's LOCATION. Excellent location compared to the shops/restaurants and historic location.

We have been going there foe about 5 years now. We try to go at least once a year and always stay at the Fife and Drum. It's very convenient to Colonial Williamsburg and many restaurants. My wife and I have been staying at other B&B's in Williamsburg for several years. Most of them have put huge dents in our budgets. At Fife & Drum for a little more than half of what we would have spent at another B&B, we had a wonderful time. We will definitely be back. Service and Value are outstanding. Room was small and tv could have been a little bigger. While the room was very clean when we checked in after we took our showers the first night, a heavy mildew smell tended to come from the bathroom. Everything looked clean so I don't know if it was the pipes or not enough ventalation in the bathroom. It was not terrible but was not pleasant either. For the breakfast, some people probably love it, but my wife and I have dietary restrictions and could not eat very much of it but cannot penalize them for that. What we were able to eat it was ok but not spectacular by any means. Overall though, we can afford to stay there two times longer than other places for the same money so we will most definitely be back!

Have stayed at Fife and Drum 4 or 5 times now. Would never consider staying anyplace else in Williamsburg. The location alone is simply the best in town. Lovely Inn with wonderful rooms. Ideally located in the historic district and most restaurants with in a very short walk. The Inkeeper and staff were so friendly and helpful. I would definitely go back if in the area. Wonderful way to ring in the New Year with all the activities close by!!! The only down was the breakfasts served. Have been going to B&B's for over 30 years. I love to see how creative the Innkeepers are with breakfasts. Would have liked to see something more than a baked french toast that was not that good. It would have been nice to have something appropriate to the Colonial Williamsburg theme, spoon bread, Virgina ham omelet, hearty muffins such as pumpkin, carrot for some examples.

The only disadvantage is that if stairs are a problem the B&B is upstairs on the 1st floor and there is no elevator. Breakfast was not great which was a surprise considering how good everything else was. We would definitely go back.

My family of three have stayed at the Fife & Drum Inn a half dozen times, usually over a weekend in December. Its location alone would make it worthy (a block from the historic area, six blocks from the train station), but add that to its colonial decor, outstanding breakfasts (the leanest bacon ever!), and the cheery owners/staff, the place is perfect. Tea, cookies, and lemonade are available day and night as is a game table and a wide assortment of DVDs (not that you'd have much time for movies!). On our visit this past weekend, Billy graciously let us "keep" our room until we had to meet our train at 5 p.m. on check out day. When our daughter was young, he always gave her a bag of biscuits left over from breakfast to feed the ducks in a nearby pond. It's one of our favorite B&Bs anywhere, and the only place we'd stay in Williamsburg, VA.

We have visited Wiliamsburg numerous times but just recently stumbled upon the Fife and Drum Inn and decided to stay there on our recent visit for the Grand Illumination weekend. The LOCATION can't be beat! You can easily walk to Colonial Williamsburg and you are right next to Market Square and next door to AROMAs! We loved the Colonial feel of the Inn and the owners as very friendly and accomodating. Also, the breakfasts were wonderful and they were generous to share the recipes! I would strongly recommend it. I also think their cottage that sleeps 6 would be an excellent choice for a family because of it's location! I wish we had known about it when we took our children to Williamsburg years ago. All in all, we were VERY pleased. Another benefit if that they have PARKING for their guests.

Although I live in DC, this was my first trip to Williamsburg. I scouted a number of establishments online before booking with the Fife and Drum, and I'm thrilled with my selection. The owner (Billy), is very friendly. The room was a bit small, but very clean and comfortable. I slept like a rock. The best part about this place (other than its charm) is its location. We parked our car and didn't touch it again for two days... Merchant's Square, Colonial Williamsburg, W&M campus - we were in the center of everything, so it was hugely convenient. I'll definitely go back!

The room was clean with colonial decor and a comfy queen bed. It was surprisingly quiet even though it's facing a busy street. The shower is nice and large. The innkeepers are welcoming and friendly and will offer suggestions for dining/attractions. The location is wonderful as it is only steps away from great cafes and restaurants and a couple of blocks away from the beginning of Colonial Williamsburg. This makes it easy to eat or shop and then go back to the room to freshen up or drop off packages.

Great little Inn! I think the only complaint had very little to do with the service- the guests in the room next to us seemed to be pacing around half the night and with hard wood floors everywhere, it was a bit disturbing, as sound travels quite well! Otherwise, a great stay and fantastic location!

The location is key to F&D. It is one block from Colonial Williamsburg, 8 miles from Jamestown, and right next to William and Mary college and the shops of today's Williamsburg.

this was our second visit to the fife and drum inn, and it was as good as it was last visit. we have already booked our next visit down. the location was excellent, the staff could not have been more attentive, the breakfast was excellent, and the inn clean as a whistle. highly recommend the inn.

Chose to stay here on last night of trip. Owner very friendly and came to our room to help with broken shower faucet. Room was very cozy, and the location of the inn is great. We could walk to our restaurant. Folks who have difficulty with stairs should know, however, that the inn is on the second floor of an old building. No elevator.

Absolutely great location for sightseeing, touring, restaurants and access to Jamestown and Yorktown . Owners very friendly and very helpful! Beds inviting and comfortable. Breakfast was very nice but coffee needed to be stronger. Would stay here again.

Loved the closeness to historic Williamsburg. Inn is above business' but never heard anything from downstairs. Nice and quite. If you take a cab to the Inn just mention the Aromas Coffee shop and the cabbies know right where to go. Comfortable room and great breakfasts. We stayed 4 nights. What a pleasure.

Billy and his wife are wonderful Inn keepers who gave us a beautiful breakfast each morning and service from a wonderful staff. Billy gave us great information on places to eat and things to make sure you see when you come to Historic Williamsburg. I hope to get back there again soon.

This B&B is in a fantastic location. Parking is nearby though it was not that easy to find the specific spaces for B&B guests. Partly, this difficulty was to do with the fact that there was nobody there to greet us when we arrived, although a key and welcome note were left, and so we were glad we had printed off the parking instructions. The room was lovely, well-appointed and quiet, good cleanliness and the bed comfortable. We were very happy with it. There was a good range of books available for guests in the main hallway. We were disappointed not to be greeted in the morning at breakfast, despite no greeting the previous evening. We were also disappointed with the choice at breakfast - from recollection, something cooked and some granola. The quality was fine, however. So, accommodation excellent, could improve breakfast and personal interaction/welcome with guests.

Our experience was first rate, and very pleasant. We had never stayed at a B&B before and our innkeepers made our stay very memorable. Sure beats going to a conventional hotel.

Very nice accommodations, friendly and helpful owner and staff. I really loved the convenience of being within walking distance of everything.

Beautifully decorated in a clean, minimalist kind of way. Authentically Colonial, but spotless and fresh. Breakfast is good, and Blue Talon breakfast across the street has absolutely amazing breakfast for $9.95 if you'd like to try that. The William and Mary room is lovely, but has an ice machine behind it. It didn't bother us much, but I'd avoid that room if you have a long drive ahead of you... This is one of my favorite places, and I highly recommend it. It's worth repeat visits!

We stayed at the Fife and Drum on 8/5-8/7. It was one of the best B&B's we have been to so far. The place is beautifully decorated, the rooms are great, and you can not beat the location. Right downtown in historic Willliamsburg. We loved it. We will definitely be back.

We very much enjoyed our stay. The Cedars Suite is very comfortable and a great value for that much space. The staff is friendly and helpful and we enjoyed the breakfasts and snacks. (We do wish the breakfast window was extended a bit though for late sleepers.) The location is very convenient as well, with the William and Mary campus, Merchant Square and the colonial area and buses nearby so you can park your car for the entire stay.

We have stayed at many B&Bs and many hotels over the years. When I make travel plans I take into consideration what we will be doing and the overall purpose of the trip. I was very happy to find that this lodging had a little bit of each. Fife & Drum Inn was like a hotel in that each room had a key-card and was off of an interior corridor. So I didn't get the feeling that I was in someone's house in their bedroom.(Sometimes you want this cozy feel and sometimes you don't). The bathroom was outstanding. Obviously the hosts put a lot of thought into the layout, useability and aesthetics. Always had as hot of water as I wanted and excellent water pressure. The bed was one of the most inviting beds I have ever slept in. It looked and felt beautiful. What a pleasure to return to the room after a long day of activities around Williamsburg, shower and relax off to sleep with a little TV. Another cross between hotel and B&B was the breakfast. Usually at a B&B you are given the time breakfast begins and all of the guests sit together at one or two large tables. Sometimes I really don't want to sit at a table with all the other guests. Sometimes I want a more casual approach such as a nod hello while getting coffee. Fife & Drum had several smaller tables and a buffet that allowed the guests to come and go. More like what you see at a hotel breakfast buffet. The location is AWESOME. Colonial Williamsburg, Merchants Square and William & Mary are all less than 5 minutes away. The Inn has a parking area and/or there is Free parking on the street at night. Very nice hosts. They seemed to have a knack for accommodating guests based on the guests needs and wants for their stay. If you felt like chatting they chatted, if a good morning was all you were up for they could do that too. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Fife & Drum Inn. It was a perfect blend of the pampering of a B&B and the anonymity of a hotel.

I have stayed at the Fife and Drum Inn many times in the past, and I simply love the location. It's proximity to the historic area is a real plus. Since it is located in Merchant's Square, it is very convenient to the contemporary dining options in that end of town.

We spent 2 nights at the Fife and Drum and found it to be a great place to stay when visiting Williamsburg. You can't beat it for location as it is right off of Merchant's Square, next to William & Mary, and an easy walk to any of the Colonial Williamsburg sites and events. Billy was a most gracious host.

We LOVE The Fife and Drum! We stayed here on our honeymoon (second stay) and felt right at home. Billy and Sharon are so warm and welcoming. I can't wait to go back!
2.4 on July 03, 2011
Breakfast was skimpy and not very well done compared to nearly every other B&B we have stayed at. The room was fine, and the staff was knowledgeable about sites and events in the area. The location is stellar - an easy walk to the historic district, William & Mary, and several excellent restaurants (including a cute coffee shop two doors east). The price is For the location.

Easy to find, good location, close to the areas most people go to Williamsburg to see. Owner seemed friendlier on departure as opposed to the businesslike and almost cool manner in which we were initially greeted. Breakfast was tasty but limited.

We were quite pleased again with our stay. It was our second stay at their inn. They are both very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, quiet and met all needs. The owners go out of their way to answer all questions and offer suggestions for the area. We'll be back the next time we are there.

I am reviewed in my position and I always appreciate respectful direction which leads to improvement as well as praise so it is with respect and appreciation that I do the same for my stay at the Fife and Drum. First, you could not ask for a nicer Inn Keeper and staff - and willing to address any issue or need you may have. We stayed at the cottage and were putting on a wedding right up the street so things were crazy and I didn't have time to ask all the time. They beds were wonderful, the location fantastic - sincerely - coffee shops, college, old town. Here are my thoughts on improvement - clean up the yard, someone paying this much doesn't want to have weeds everywhere - make it beautiful! Give us a real place to hang clothes (maybe that supply cabinet?) Check on us more than once to make sure we have what we need. Also, I would love a bench to sit outside in the garden you are going to make beautiful for the next time I come back - because I will be back.

We stayed in the restoration suite that accommodated my husband and me in one room and our (W&M) daughter in the front twin. It was a perfect arrangement with its own porch access. I absolutely intend to reserve the same room again and again ... you can't beat the location, the accommodations and Billy/Sharon's above-and-beyond care/service.

Great location for walking around to the college and to historic Williamsburg. Our room was the Yorktown - the bed was great and I only wish the room was a bit darker in the morning, but we needed to get up anyway. Breakfast was nice and different each day. We loved the fresh made cookies available all day and the ability to get a cup of hot tea anytime!

The reception we received was warm and enthusiastic with the obvious intention to invite us into a homely atmosphere. The Cedar Suite, where we stayed, was cosy, comfy, and had everything we needed, including a balcony where we sat to enjoy a late evening drink and snack in peace and quiet. Breakfast was great, and the room felt like a cosy Engish cottage. A great place to stay, a perfect location, and an amazing value for money! Long may it exist and prosper. Thank you. We stayed just one night and got the last room available, so I gather it may not have been the most beautiful one but still we liked it a lot. The innkeper (I suppose) we met was absolutely charming with us, and the breakfast, though not exceedingly much choice, was really fresh and tasty. The location is quite unbeatible. So we had a very happy if short stay and would certainly recommend the F&D Inn to anyone who looks for some more personal experience in W'burg.

First trip to Williamsburg and couldn't have been more pleased. Got there first thing in the morning (well before the mid afternoon check-in time) and Rhonda was very helpful in showing us where to park (for free during our stay), going over things to do and pointing us in the right direct to get started. When we returned in the late afternoon, they had already checked us in, the key was available and we had a great stay. Breakfast was delicious. I'd recommend this B&B to anyone and when we go back there sometime in warmer weather, we'll definitely stay there again.

The Fife and Drum was the perfect B&B for my family! In a charming building, wonderfully furnished with cute details and items of historical interest, it's a very comfortable place to return at the end of a tiring day. Rhonda provides cookies and lemonade to refresh, and the assortment of historical videos and books added to our experience. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious and provided the perfect nutritious start to the day! Billy and Rhonda are wonderfully helpful and gracious, and they helped us to feel right at home. The B&B is only 2 blocks from Colonial Williamsburg, right across the street from William and Mary, and surrounded by easy shopping and dining in all price ranges. I can't imagine a better location or a more suitable B&B! I hope we can return!

We really enjoyed our recent two night stay in the Cedars Suite. Billy (one of the owners) and his assistant, Rhonda, are both very friendly and helpful, always happy to provide information about the area. The location really couldn't be more perfect - we walked everywhere while our car remained parked at the inn's free private parking area for our entire stay. We enjoyed the buffet-style breakfast, the complimentary lemonade and cookies, and use of the free wi-fi, as well as the atmosphere of the inn. We also highly recommend nearby "A Chef's Kitchen" for a delicious dinner and a fun, informative cooking class. We're sometimes skeptical about 1, 2, or 3 time contributor reviews on sites like TripAdvisor. However, in the case of The Fife and Drum Inn, Billy nicely asks that a post-stay review be written and we think it actually says a lot that people who don't normally write reviews (like us) enjoyed their stay at the inn enough to do so. Don't hesitate to book a stay and see for yourself what a great place this is.

My husband and I wanted to experience the true charm and history of Williamsburg, so we decided to stay at the Fife and Drum... we loved it! It was located right at the beginning of the historic district; we walked everywhere we wanted to go! No hassles with parking. Once there, we saw the other B&Bs in the area, and they were all a good mile away from the historic district. Our room was very charming with dormered ceilings and wood floors. The breakfasts were good, and there were always fresh cookies and lemonade/tea/coffee available at any time. Billy was extremely helpful when we first arrived, getting our Williamsburg tickets for us, suggesting restaurants, and making reservations for us. Overall, this is a romantic, charming place to stay. If you are looking to experience the authentic history of Williamsburg, the Fife and Drum is your best bet. We will definitely be back!

The Fife & Drum Inn is a great alternative to the larger hotels in Williamsburg. A cross between a boutique hotel and a bed and breakfast, the Inn is within easy walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg and contiguous to Market Square restaurants and stores. Host Billy Scruggs offers recommendations for both casual and formal dining and other sights to see around Williamsburg. The rooms are comfortable with a modern bathroom in each. Besides breakfast every morning, there is a continuous supply of cold lemonade and fresh baked cookies in the public room. Highly recommend the Inn for anyone interested in personal, intimate lodging while visiting Colonial Williamsburg.

My wife and I stayed at the Fife and Drum for one night. We snuck around to see all the rooms and were very impressed with how cozy and private they are, and how each is decorated and laid out with such thought and good taste. Some specifics: The Queen mattress is dished so we both fell to the middle and woke up sore. The shower was great- glass door, tile seat, great water flow. The handle took some tinkering to figure out how to adjust the temperature. A laminated instruction card would be nice. The claw-foot tub was also great. The TV in the box is a wonderfully innovative solution to the problem of how to fit a television in a colonial decor. Breakfast was lovely. Several hot chafing dishes with delicious offerings, fireplace, coffee, news paper... Very nice. 24hr Lemonade and free anytime snacks too (potato chips, Chex mix, etc.) Overall, we were vey pleased with our stay. The location affords the Fife & Drum some leeway with regard to the noted shortcomings and the somewhat higher price tag. We will definitely stay here again!

Staying in Williamsburg Virginia is a challenge, as it attracts lot of people and is expensive. The Fife and Drum Inn is a great alternative. My husband and I just spent 2 nights at this awesome little B&B in downtown colonial Williamsburg. What a wonderful experience ... the Inn is charming, our room even had an iron gate entrance even though it was inside and the hall makes you feel like you are outdoors. We chose a suite with a kingsize bed since my husband is quite tall. it was very comfortable. And the sitting area was nice to have as well. Although the room was of the period, the bath was modern with great water pressure. And wifi was available in the room. Innkeeper Billy and his helper Rhonda were totally helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast was served on time and with a smile. And I can't say enough about the location. We didn't have to drive anywhere and that was good since we had snow and sleet while we were there. Being so close to everything we were able to see all the sights. We can't wait to come back in the Spring when we can use the nice porch that was right outside our room.

Best location. We walked from Amtrak train and walked to Colonial village. My 12 yr old son and I had 2- room Restoration Suite. Terrific space with quaint touches. Modern bath and nice toiletries. Friendliness and service stand out the most. Innkeeper Billy was warm and helpful, including getting us good discount on CW tickets. Good breakfast, including bread pudding. We also loved evening cookies and lemonade and playing checkers with colonial soldiers as pieces!

We loved the Fife & Drum! The staff was courteous and helpful at every turn. The breakfast was no standard fare - a gourmet, stick to your ribs, breakfast started off the day right. The prime location made it easy to go back and forth from shopping and sight seeing for quick breaks. Our only complaint was that we could hear guests in the common area late in the evening. Ask for a room near the back porch. However, even the guests laughter was not a big distraction - they retired to their rooms at a reasonable hour and did not disturb our sleep. And one of our key cards stopped working, but all was fixed within ten minutes. They have really thought of everything. The beds are phenomenally divine! It was a true luxury just to lay in bed. We will be back to the Fife and Drum. Great value, great experience.

The only slightly negative was there was no bath tub in our bathroom. I was unaware of this when I made the reservation. Just a small detail to mention. We would happily return and have told our friends about the Fife and Drum. Splendid!

If you want to be close to the essence of Williamsburg and not be held hostage by Williamsburg Inn and affilliates, this is a good find. Very clean, personal service, nicely appointed but not luxury defines this inn, located over some quaint village storefronts. Pretty quiet at night, but then again, so is this part of Williamsburg.

The convenience to the College of Wm and Mary and Colonial Williamsburg was wonderful and the friendliness and helpfullness of the manager and staff were superior.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Fife & Drum Inn while on a recent weekend getaway to Williamsburg. The location can't be beat: just a block from Colonial Williamsburg, it is by far the closest B&B in town. It's a beautiful and charming inn, tastefully decorated, with interesting photographs and furnishings that reflect the inn's history and connection to Williamsburg. We stayed in the William & Mary room, and were quite pleased with it. I only wish that the sink had been in the bathroom instead of outside it. The owners were very friendly, eager to help and very hospitable. My only complaint is that the breakfast was a little ho-hum. I've had the pleasure of staying in several other B&Bs in Williamsburg, and I guess I've gotten spoiled with sumptuous gourmet breakfasts. There was nothing wrong with breakfast at the Fife & Drum, it just wasn't knock-your-socks-off delicious. Good value, esp considering its proximity to CW and W&M. Would definitely stay here again.

It was the perfect location for us with no car...Everything was within walking distance. It was a cute room and the breakfast was very good! The owners are really nice too!

Very welcoming and serene in the midst of Williamsburg. Can't get any closer to the activities. Billy Scruggs, the owner, was very knowledgeable and friendly. Would highly recommend and would definitely stay again.

We have been guests of the Inn at least 4 times and are always amazed at the cleanliness and how much at home that we feel. Each room is decorated differently with every detail paid special attention to. The staff is friendly and always welcoming. Each day begins with a delicious breakfast served informally. If one wishes to visit with other guests there is opportunity for that but this is not forced. The Inn is conveniently located within walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg as well at the modern day Merchant's Square. The Fife and Drum inn is truly a hidden gem!

Great place to stay in Williamsburg. Great staff, with lots of insight into the historic events and locations. Had a great time.

Our stay at the Fife & Drum was great. We spent three and a half wonderful days in Colonial Williamsburg and thoroughly enjoyed being able to escape the afternoon heat by retreating to our cozy and very air conditioned room, without having to hop a bus or taxi. The breakfasts were great and the staff/owners very welcoming. Definately our newly designated cozy retreat in one of my favorite places in the world.

We stayed at the Inn for two nights. It was a very clean room/inn located on a street next businesses and coffee shops. It was a little noisey at night when the local businesses are shutting down. Breakfast was taste, served buffet style, but they served vertually the same thing both mornings. We really did not get a chance to chat with the innkeeps, as they are not on the property except in the morning, but then again we would leave after breakfast and return mid- to late-afternoon. So they may have bee there when we were out. The Inn is very close to the history part of Williamsburg and an easy walk to get there. On Saturdays there is a wonderful farmer's market the next block over in market square. Also there are a number of very nice eating establishments, all in walking distances. We might be inclined to stay there again, but might try another B&B for comparison.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Fife and Drum Inn and were more than pleased. We are already looking at our calendar to plan another visit. We were able to step out the front door and walk to Colonial Williamsburg. The breakfast was amazing both mornings. The rooms were beautiful and the staff was very welcoming and helpful. I would highly recommend the Fife and Drum! -Amy

My wife and I spent two nights there for Valentine's Day weekend. We are repeat customers and the Fife and Drum is our favorite. The rooms are quaint, the common area is cozy and breakfast is great. What sets F&D apart from other Williamsburg B&B is the location. Adjacent to Merchant Sq, everything is within walking distance. Highly recommended.

My wife and I visit Williamsburg several times a year and always stay at the Fife and Drum Inn. The location is unbeatable, just off Merchant's Square, convenient to the historic area and close to a number of Williamsburg's best restaurants. The owners, Billy and Sharon, are friendly and very knowledgeable about activities throughout the Historic Triangle. Rhonda is the sort of staff member every B and B needs; unfailingly cheerful and helpful. The rooms are charming and comfortable, each with a unique European-style bath. Breakfasts are generous and tasty, and cookies and lemonade are available later in the day in the common area. Free off-street parking is available, and we usually leave the car in place for the duration of our stay because everything is so close.

The room was very comfortable and cozy. The owners (Billy) were willing to do anything to make your stay comfortable and also were very informative on Williamsburg and the local areas. On my next stay in Williamsburg I wouldn't definately choose the The Fife & Drum.

Fourth Christmas visit to Fife and Drum. An annual gift my husband and I give ourselves. Love the location - just couple of blocks from historic Williamsburg and our favorite restaurant Chef's Kitchen is next door. Staying here is like being at home only a lot more romantic.

Everything was cheerful ... the rooms, the owners, the staff, and the location. Right in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg, easy walking distance to fantastic restaurants!. We were there two weeks before Christmas and encountered strolling carolers and lots of friendly holiday spirit from everyone on the street and everyone at The Fife and Drum Inn. All the rooms were immaculate and decorated in keeping with the history of the area. We loved our room and would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Will definitely recommend Fife and Drum to others.

The Fife & Drum is the perfect touch to the Williamsburg experience.

My husband and I were able to arrange babysitting and slip away for the weekend. Our time away is few and far between so where we stay and what we do is very important. We were extremely happy with the Fife and Drum Inn. When we arrived we were greeted happily and given a tour of the inn. We were also given information about the happenings in Williamsburg for that particular weekend. The reason we chose the Fife and Drum Inn was based on the website for the Inn. The website was a very fair representation of the actual inn. We also planned our dinning experience based on recommendations on the website which exceeded our expectations. The Inn is located downtown. We parked our car Friday when we arrived and did not have to get back in car until Sunday when we left. It was great!

My wife and I stayed at the Fife & Drum during our honeymoon to Williamsburg and had a great time. The suite was spacious and comfortable and the staff was friendly and courteous. The owner, Billy Scruggs, especially made an effort to make our stay special by recommending sites and restaraunts for us. We have already talked of returning in the future.

My husband and I loved this Inn -- it combines the best of an Inn and B&B. The rooms are quiet, with good space and very firm mattress. Breakfast was very good and the staff excellent -- helpful and answered all questions. The location is superb -- the other B&Bs or Inns were at least a mile away. Plus, free parking was great. We would and definitely plan to return and would absolutely stay at this Inn.
4.2 on September 20, 2009
The Fife & Drum Inn is truly one of a kind.. just blocks from Colonial Williamsburg! The B&B is most comfortable (we stayed in the George Washington room).. with an incredible breakfast.. and true to the period. Rhonda is FABulous. And Billy (the owner) can tell you about EVERYthing in the area. It's a bit pricier than hotels in the area. But the ambiance is well worth the extra cost!

Wonderful B&B. The room (The Conservancy) was very charming and relaxing. Location is outstanding and the staff is very warm and welcoming. A spectacular experience!

It is by far the best location in colonial Williamsburg! Loved the breakfast...actually requested the recipe for the bread pudding...Billy had one printed up & ready for me. The bathroom & shower were awesome as well. Would definitely stay again!

We had a great time. We love colonial history so the location was great. We were right in the middle of everything. Our breakfast was very good, simple but we did not go away hungry. We went on a ghost tour and learned alot that we did not know about the history. We went on a tour of the Williamsburg Winery and had lunch there and that was very enjoyable. We also went on a carriage ride. The inkeepers were very and nice and helpful whenever we had a question. We will certainly come back.

My husband, our 10 year old son and myself stayed at the Inn on our way to SC. We found an inn that was clean with some great "touches", in a great location, easy to walk to everything, and a friendly staff and owners. I would stay here again as well as suggest the Inn to others.

We have stayed at The Fife & Drum in for several years, and love so many things about it! Billy & Sharon, the innkeepers are so friendly and knowledgeable about Williamsburg and will help you plan your day or make a reserveration for dinner. The location can not be beat- in the heart of Merchant's Square and a few steps from Colonial Williamsburg. The rooms are wonderful, with robes to relax in after a day of sightseeing or shopping. Breakfast, (in front of the fire if it's a cool morning) is always a great time to talk with the innkeepers and your fellow guests. We make The Fife and Drum our only choice in Williamsburg-and you should too!

We enjoyed our time at the Inn and loved our hosts. The Inn was cozy and inviting. My daughters and I had a wonderful stay and will visit again!
4.6 on March 05, 2009
Our stay was as pleasant as it could get. It's the "off season", so, we had the Inn all to ourselves. Our room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was outstanding. We had bacon, eggs, biscuits, ham biscuits, a fruit bowl, blueberry preserves, orange juice and fresh hot coffee. I hated the fact that I couldn't eat it all. The fireplace in the dining room adds both a romantism and coziness to the room.
4.4 on February 26, 2009
The hall of rooms looks like a Williamsburg street and is very well done. The rooms are very comfortable and well furnished, the breakfast is good (fruit, casserole, ham bisquits), and the owners friendly and full of good information. The location - at one end of the historic area and one block from the College of William and Mary - can't be beat. There are several good places to eat right on that block. The only issue is that it is all on the second floor and you must get your luggage up the stairs, so it is not handicap friendly.

We love visiting the Fife and Drum Inn and have been doing so at least once a year for several years. The Inn is extremely clean, and we look forward to burying our noses in the sheets and towels every time we go. I wish I could get mine to smell that good at home! You feel right at home from the moment you step into the door. The rooms are all very cozy and well decorated. It's a special place to visit and I have recommended the Inn to several of my friends, and have helped to give a gift certificate to someone as well. You can't go wrong at the Fife and Drum, because as soon as you step out of the front door, you are in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg. It's a nice and relaxing place to stay, and you're pampered from the moment you arrive. The breakfast is simple and always good, with individual dining tables lining the breakfast area. We love it there, and plan on continuing to visit at least once a year as time permits.

Discovering the Fife and Drum Inn made our stay in Williamsburg outstanding! We were out the door and in historic Williamsburg enjoying the many historic sites, sounds and activities within minutes but always close enough to return for relaxing and refreshing in the common area at the Fife and Drum Inn until we were ready to return to the hustle and bustle.

We are return guests and the experience is always fantastic. The breakfasts are wonderful, especially in front of the fire on a winter morning. With the car tucked away off the street, there is almost no need to resort to car, except to take a wine tasting at the Williamsburg Winery.

We were looking for a bed and breakfast that would have the Colonial Williamsburg ambiance combined with functionality and location. We found the perfect blend of these elements at The Fife and Drum Inn. The Cedars Suite was quite comfortable, the bathroom delightfully modern and convenient, and the inn is located on the doorstep of Merchants Square. Breakfast was delicious, with a variety of French Toast casseroles, fresh fruits, bacon, juice and coffee. The staff was attentive and willing to answer our questions. The common room was always available for relaxing and watching TV or perhaps for snacking on a chocolate chip cookie. Our stay at The Fife and Drum was a delightful departure from the norm. We look forward to returning soon.

The Fife and Drum is loaded with Nostalgia and Class. The beds are very comfortable and cleanliness is impeccable. The location is convenient in the heart of downtown Colonial Williamsburg. Not suitable for handicapped you must climb stairs to get to any room. Breakfast quality was excellent but variety and hours are limited. I would prefer a two hour span 7:30AM to 9:30AM instead of the one hour provided from 8AM to 9AM. Also the breakfast was identical each day for the 4 days of our stay with no eggs served at all.
