We stayed at Steeles Tavern Manor at the end of our week traveling the length of the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was the best B&B of our trip. Ray and Melissa are consummate hosts, very personable and accommodating. The Room was immaculate and very nicely furnished. The private bath was large and well equipped. Wonderful grounds and breakfast, it was a treat. You cannot go wrong when deciding to include Steeles Tavern Manor B&B along the way!

Definitely one of the best B and B's we've stayed at. The rooms were charming and comfortable and the owners warm and gracious. Our only regret was we stayed only one night. Next time it'll be at least two!

We visited Steeles Tavern Manor B&B for a two day weekend stay and were very pleased with our experience. We would highly recommend the location for anyone interested in a relaxing location to spend some quality time together. The location sits on a 50 acre site and is off the beaten track with very little distractions other than a stray cow to bother you. The B&B has 5 rooms and 3 cabins and was built in 1919 and is very spacious. The hosts are terrific and do everything they can to make your experience an enjoyable one. They are a fountain of knowledge about what to do in the area should you wish to get out and enjoy the wonderful mountain scenery in the area. They recommended we drive the Nelson’s Loop and we did so through the George Washington National Forrest and it was full of great views and an interesting driving course for those that want to not know what is around the next corner in the road. The loop takes you an area with a number of wineries and three craft beer breweries. They recommended the Veritas Winery for a visit and we thoroughly enjoyed it. As many of the other reviewers have stated Melissa’s cooking is terrific and I think she produced the best breakfasts I have ever enjoyed. We stayed in the Norton Room and it has a great view and is spacious and really had everything we could ask for. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back. I strongly suggest you give the location a try if you are thinking about enjoying the mountains for a get away from the daily grind.

Tank you!!!

After searching several weeks for the perfect place to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, we found and booked 4 nights at the Steeles Tavern Inn. What a wonderful choice! The Inn is located on a large beautiful piece of property that is quiet and calming. The Inn owners, Melissa and Ray, really made you feel at home. The breakfasts we had each morning, cooked by Melissa, were delicious. And the complimentary wine in the evening was a very nice touch. Our room was both elegant and cozy. The fireplace was inviting, the king bed was extremely comfortable and the linens were luxurious! (So nice we purchased a set) We have stayed in many places all over the world and this is one of the best we have ever stayed in. JUST BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

Traveling from Jacksonville, FL. Wanted to experience something more than just a view of a hotel chain parking lot - especially in the fall. Steeles Tavern B & B was perfect. Property is large and has paths I could use that went into the forest. Inn Keepers were very friendly and down-to-earth. Breakfast's were excellent. Had the best sleep I've had in years.

We could not have been more pleased with our stay. everything about Steele's Tavern Manor was exceptional. The Alexanders are first class owners of a warm and hospitable property. We would definitely return and have already recommended the B&B to friends.

My husband and I stayed here overnight during a road trip we took in early September. We were so impressed - Melissa and Ray went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and they were so friendly and sweet. The food was delicious and Melissa was happy to accommodate my eating restrictions. We would definitely go back to Steeles Tavern if we're traveling through Virginia again in the future, and will recommend the experience to others. Thank you so much for making our stay wonderful!

Thank you Ray and Melissa for a fantastic stay! We enjoyed our weekend get-away so very much - it was just the type of place and weekend we needed to disconnect from the stresses at work and home and reconnect with each other. Melissa is an outstanding cook (amazing chocolate-chip cookies!). Breakfast was filling and delicious. We felt so taken care of and cozy at Steeles Tavern and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a B&B in the area!

Highly recommend this B & B! Super friendly, helpful and hospitable hosts. Warm and inviting home. All comforts looked after - and if something found missing, just ask! Great breakfasts, too. You won't be sorry you went!

Melissa and Ray have done a fantastic job within their two years of operation. They definitely care about the experience you have while you are in either one of the spacious and comfortable rooms or in one of the sister property cabins. Small touches (your name on a chalkboard welcoming you, fresh cookies in the rooms, higher quality toiletries in the bathrooms, plush robes to wear) add to the hospitable nature of the inn. Happy hour with drinks and h'ordeuvres allowed us to converse with other guests, all the while gathering useful information from our hosts about local cuisine and libations. When we woke the next morning coffee and juice were available downstairs, followed by a remarkable breakfast of baked peaches and french toast streusel fritatta with sausage. Delicious! My wife and I were looking for a nice night away, and we certainly found one at Steele's Tavern Manor. Keep up the good work!

Stayed at Steele's Tavern for 2 wonderful nights.. Melissa and Ray are very genuine people and excellent hosts. The grounds and house are beautiful and the rooms are enormously comfortable. The food is outstanding and the "happy hours" each night were a delight. We will definitely stay again!!

My girlfriend and I visited for a long weekend at the end of March. While the rooms, amenities and food were all first rate, what really "made" the weekend is the personal touch of Ray and Melissa on everything. From the nightly happy hours, to the very honest and knowledgeable reviews of local restaurants and places of interest, to the friendly conversations after the outstanding breakfasts, they really make you feel a welcome guest and at home at the same time. And we got to meet their wonderful new puppy at his homecoming! We definitely plan to return, and maybe try out a cabin next time. We look forward to hearing and seeing updates on Bacchus on the blog, and congratulations to Ray and Melissa on the upcoming marriage of their son.

My husband and I spent our 44th wedding anniversary at Steels Tavern. What a wonderful choice. Ray and Melissa immediately made us feel at home. They both are such wonderful host. The Tavern is beautifully decorated and had all the amenities. Melissa's breakfast were so good. We loved getting coffee in the morning and sitting on the side porch. We really enjoyed have breakfast with the other guest. Ray and Melissa would join the guest towards the end of the breakfast to inquire about our days plans. They were always ready with helpful tips and advice on things to do in the area. The 5:30 cocktails in the common room were very relaxing. We enjoyed nibbling on the tasty treats and sharing our day's adventures with Ray and Melissa. We loved their new black lab puppy. He will make a great addition to help welcome quest. Best experience ever.

We had a wonderful stay at the Steeles Tavern Manor. It's a beautiful B&B, warm and inviting with a scenic view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our room was gorgeous; we loved the fireplace and whirlpool tub! Melissa and Ray are the most gracious hosts; they made us feel like we were staying with old friends. We enjoyed tasting wine at a local winery and sampling the beer at a local brewery. Melissa is a wonderful cook and baker (our complimentary bag of cookies was eaten before we got home). The breakfast was fantastic, as was the service. We look forward to staying here again. This was our best B&B experience ever! Laura & Rick

We have just returned from a weekend at Steeles Tavern Manor, and hosts Ray and Melissa. From the happy hour with local wine and cheeses to delicious and filling breakfasts, we were well fed. Our Chardonnay Room in this wine-themed B&B was lovely, espcially the sitting room with fireplace. Comfortable bed with luxurious linens, and lush, plush robe for each of us. This is the nicest B&B we have had the pleasure of experiencing, and Ray and Melissa were great hosts.

My wife and I and had the pleasure of spending the night at Steele's Tavern Manor and we both agree that this was the best B&B experience we have ever had. Every aspect of our stay was top rate. We would highly recommend this B&B!

Ray and Melissa have the most beautiful home that they shared with us. They are both very welcoming and have a lot of information about the area. The room was amazing and the food was scrumptious. I added the Celebration package to our stay and had a birthday cake waiting for my husband when we got there. Everything was perfect on our arrival. We more than enjoyed our stay and can't say enough positive things about this bed and breakfast.

The Steeles Tavern Manor B&B offers the best of creature comforts in an idyllic setting. Ray and Melissa are tremendous hosts with a great set of recommendations for daily activities and dinner options. They prepare a wonderful breakfast daily and have a 'happy hour' with local wines/beers as well as great appetizers in the late afternoon. This is a great way to get to know the hosts as well as other guests. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The grounds are the best we have experienced with a pool, pond and private stream. Will recommend to friends!

Our recent stay at Steeles Tavern Manor was fantastic. Ray and Melissa were gracious hosts and the facility is beautiful. They accommodated specific dietary needs (gluten and dairy) with delicious breakfasts and even had gluten free crackers at the Happy Hour. The Happy Hour was a great time to meet other guests and sample local wines and beers. Ray and Melissa had tips on local sites to see and things to do. Overall our best B&B experience ever. Thanks, Ray and Melissa, for making our stay a memorable experience.

My husband and I were traveling from Florida to Ohio and decided to stay at Steeles Tavern Manor B & B for a couple nights and enjoy the area. We were extremely pleased with the room, the happy hour and especially the extraordinary breakfast! Melissa and Ray are wonderful and their recommendations for dining and sightseeing in the area was invaluable. I would highly recommend Steeles Tavern Manor B & B.

My husband and I just got back from a lovely long weekend at Steeles Tavern Manor. We have stayed at several B & Bs before, but Steeles Tavern Manor is definitely one of the best we've ever experienced. The rooms are all so nicely decorated, the breakfast each morning was delicious (and huge!), and the evening happy hour each night was a real treat. If weather permits, ask to enjoy your breakfast on the screened-in porch....so peaceful! Melissa and Ray are warm and gracious hosts, and they have done a wonderful job with their inn. We highly recommend a stay at Steeles Tavern Manor. We definitely plan to go back!!

I have stayed in many Bed and Breakfasts and this rates among the top. This was the perfect place for our mother/daughter get away. Food was wonderful, pool was refreshing, house was clean, quiet and up-to-date and Ray and Melissa were the best! By the way, the bed linens were amazing - it was like sleeping on a cloud. Trail riding with Appalachian Horse Adventures is also recommended.

My husband and I came down for an anniversary getaway. We stayed 2 nights. From the minute we walked in the door, Ray and Melissa, the owners of the B & B, were incredibly nice. We were supposed to check in by 8p but didn't get there until close to 9p. When we called to let them know of our late arrival, their primary concern was that we get there safe. The accommodations were BEAUTIFUL! We stayed in the Chardonnay room. It's on the first floor which is the only downside. I thought it was the nicest room out of all the ones in the place. Breakfast was amazing! They also do a happy hour in the evening where they serve local wine and appetizers. We went on a hike up Crab Tree Mtn which was really nice, especially since I'm not much of an outdoor person at all. We also visited 2 local vineyards. Ray and Melissa were incredibly helpful w/ directing us on things to do and places to eat in the area. I felt a bit sad leaving on Sunday morning. Ray and Melissa are such a warm couple who really take the time to make sure their guests are comfortable. I would highly recommend this B & B to anyone interested in vacationing in the Shenandoah Valley. This is one place I would like to go again.

Innkeepers Melissa and Ray go out of their way to make your stay relaxing and comfortable. Lots of little touches and gestures that will make you feel like members of their family. The breakfasts are delicious, and the wine, beer, and cheese social is very enjoyable. This B&B is beautiful, and conveniently located midway between Staunton and Lexington, VA, both worthy of full-day visits! The Jacuzzi was nice, and there's free Wi-Fi. Steeles Tavern is a great place to unwind!

bWe spent one night at SteelesTavern Manor, and we couldn't have been more pleased. Melissa and Ray were gracious beyond measure. The room was quite lovely and VERY comfortable with fabulous linens (which I really appreciate!). The wine and cheese hour was so welcome after a long drive, and the recommendation for dinner was spot on. Breakfast was delicious, and it fueled us well to the top of Crabtree Falls. We will definitely be back!

Having enjoyed many years of B&B stays, we found Melissa & Ray's recently/fully restored "Manor" to be excellent in all regards. We could not imagine a more hospitible, comfortable nor enjoyable stay. Celebrated only son's graduation by having both our SO's join in the experience; the day long event was best capped by our being in their care, at such a wonderful establishment. We were completely charmed by the morning after breakfast fare (remarkable too) and setting. We shall recommend to all friends, family and associates. Thank you Ray & Melissa!

This was a wonderful experince. Each year we look for a place to get away for our anniversary. We love the Valley and try to get there annually. This year we had a problem with our reservation at another B&B due to the snow Melissa and Ray came to the rescue and really made our stay warm and relaxing. The house is beautiful, the area is beautiful, and Melissa and Ray are very special people. The breakfasts were delicious, the Happy Hour is fun, and we can't say enough about the chocolate chip cookies!

My partner and I both needed a little vacation time, and Melissa and Ray were the perfect hosts. I found it hard to believe that they had been managing Steeles Tavern for less than a year, because they hit every note perfectly. My partner has dietary restrictions, and Melissa did a fabulous job of preparing meals that were delicious, and safe for him to eat. We enjoyed getting to know Melissa and Ray, and other guests, during the Wine and Cheese hour. The food, the rooms, the hospitality - we could not have asked for better! We will definitely be going back soon.

Steeles Tavern Manor is a great, romantic B & B in a fabulous part of Virginia. The Manor is beautiful and comfortable and our room was prefect. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this inn to anybody.

Steeles Tavern Manor B&B was an absolute treasure-- Melissa and Ray made my husband's and my weekend get away so special and unique. We were most impressed with their attention to detail, down to a welcoming rose for the "ladies" on valentine weekend to homemade cookies and chocolates in our room to special non-alcoholic drinks for the pregnant lady (that would be me). Our room was cozy with big windows and a comfy bed-- My husband and I both slept more soundly than we had in ages. We would recommend this B&B to anyone visiting the Lexington area-- Be prepared to have one of the most memorable stays!!

The Steeles Tavern Manor was such a wonderful place to spend a weekend to refule, recharge, and unwind. A great weekend getaway for those in DC, Richmond, and Charlotte (and all points in between). The rooms had classic decor and wonderful amenities. The Alexanders' are the premier hosts of the region. And PS: The breakfast is phenomenal.

I recently treated my wife and I to a getaway weekend at STM. We looked at plenty of B&Bs when trying to make our decision but chose STM because of its distance from Staunton, VA, the distance from our home and the amenities listed on their site. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and Valentine's Day so I wanted someplace special and Ray and Melissa exceeded our expectations in every sense. From recommending dining choices (and making our reservations) and which vineyards to choose to visit, their knowledge and enthusiasm for being innkeepers really shows. The rooms are spacious and the breakfasts were excellent. We really enjoyed the 5:30 pm Happy Hour that featured local wines and cheeses and gave us a chance to interact with the other guests which is what I think is very key to the whole B&B experience. We are already planning our next visit with friends so we can share the experiences we had during our stay.

We had a wonderful stay at the Steeles Tavern Manor. It's a beautiful B&B, warm and inviting. We enjoyed the social hour with great appetizers and local beverages. The breakfast was even better, with fantastic food and service. Our room was gorgeous, loved the fireplace and whirlpool tub! Beautiful grounds and view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Even though our stay our stay was short, we were able to visit a local winery (delicious free wine sampling) and witnessed a heroic cat rescue! Melissa and Ray are the most gracious hosts, and Melissa is a wonderful cook and baker (our complimentary bag of cookies was eaten before we got home). We look forward to staying here again. Our best B&B experience ever!

In our 15 years of retirement travel experience in scores of B&Bs, this is the finest one we've ever come across. These people "get it", in every way. Relatively new owners, they are completely committed to excellence in food, comfort, convenience, housekeeping, and service. If you wish to experience B&B at its best, we recommend STM without reservation. DRS, York, PA December 2012

My husband and I wanted a nice, relaxing inn where we could enjoy the beauty of fall. This inn did not disappoint! I am so surprised because it was so reasonably priced, and yet offered many of the amenities & extravagances of high-priced B & B's. The innkeepers, Melissa & Ray, are SO laid-back and friendly, they immediately put us at ease. They offer such personal attention to each guest and yet are not intrusive or overbearing. Melissa was super-accommodating to my husband's dietary limitations. She called us ahead of time to make arrangements and prepared a delicious and special breakfast meal just for us! All the food was top-notch: homemade chocolate chip cookies & Godiva chocolates in the rooms, fresh muffins and breads every morning (the pumpkin muffins were amazing), and a tasty 2-course breakfast each morning. Ray was very helpful in recommending restaurants and things to do. The inn is so convenient to Natural Bridge, Lexington, and Crabtree Falls--we were able to visit them all within one weekend. The inn itself is immaculate and very warm and inviting. Melissa does a great job decorating for the seasons! There is a sweet screened porch and a little pond in the back where you can just sit and relax in the benches provided. There were several repeat customers at the inn, we noticed. We highly recommend it and hope we can come back some day.

My husband and I recently statyed 2 nights at the Steeles Tavern Manor Bed & Breakfast to celebrate 24 years of marriage. We had a very relaxing weekend and toured the beautiful town of Lexington, which is very rich in hsitory. The innkeepers Ray and Melissa were wonderful, they made us feel as if we were old friends visiting their home. The breakfast they served was awesome, cant say enough about how great the food was. The house was so beautfully decorated and the grounds were well taken care of. I have already recommended the tavern to a friend who is getting married next march. What a wonoderful place to spend a honeymoon. Thanks for helping us make anniversary memories that we will cherish forever. Dawn and Jimmy Scott

My husband and I recently spent a wonderful weekend at the Steeles Tavern Manor! The innkeepers were warm and friendly hosts. The breakfast was absolutely delicious. The happy hour was a nice way to experience local wines and socialize with Ray and Melissa and other guests. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well decorated. Having recently been married at a vineyard the wine decor was especially appreciated. The innkeepers really go out of their way to meet all of your needs, including being sensitive to special food considerations. Our only regret is that we were on the go during most of our stay due to a college reunion. We would love to return to simply relax, enjoy the scenery, food, and company.

My wife and I tour by motorcycle. Parking and security are always a concern. Parking was secluded and off the road. Ray went out of his way to make us at home and offered any assistance he could from places to eat to cleaning solutions for taking the bugs off the windshield. Happy hour was pleasant and relaxing with good company and local wine. Our room was the Chardonnay Suite. It was wonderful. The Jacuzzi tub was just the ticket after a 6 hour ride. Melissa is a fabulous cook. Breakfast was outstanding. Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer and enjoy more of the well kept grounds and hospitality. We would return.

In all fairness, this was the first B&B experience for my husband and I. So when I say that it wasn't your average B&B, I am comparing it to pictures that I saw of others while searching for our anniversary getaway. If you are looking for a B&B drowning in floral/Victorian decor then this place is not your cup of tea. Everything at Steeles Tavern Manor was top rate. The rooms were fantastic (we stayed in the cabernet franc room), the food delicious (Melissa makes an amazing hot artichoke dip for social hour at night...along with other appetizers), breakfast was anything but average. My husband, a declared hater of "egg pie", loved the vegetable frittata that was served. Ray and Melissa were very helpful when it came to finding activities around the area. We were able to do a few wine tastings in nearby vineyards. Overall, our experience was first class. We plan to return again, but this time with friends.
