Anne Hathaway's Cottage B&B

950 West Beverley Street , Staunton, 24401 USA (Show map)

Experience an unforgettable getaway in a charming small town. You will find us in a perfect location close to downtown but quieter than the places in the center of town. Comfortable inn an easy walk to downtown shops and dining. Most popular amenities are the sherry and port available, the fire in the Great room (in winter), the patio overlooking the garden in warmer months and the supply of so many different teas on hand! Great value with many extras. Peruse our restaurant book with maps of town showing the restaurants, as well as menus. Get antiquing advice, winery locations nearby or hiking options. Juliette also offers an escorted wine tour of 3 local wineries and a friend takes people on Battlefield tours. Juliette offers Wine Tours and Battlefield Tours with a little advance notice. The greatest Shakespeare-themed vacation this side of the Atlantic!

5 on July 12, 2015

We had planned to stop off in Staunton as the halfway point of a longer journey and were delighted to discover (being Shakespeare fanatics and general anglophiles) that in addition to the Blackfriars Playhouse -- a reproduction of the theater where Shakespeare's company, the King's Men, performed -- Staunton has a reproduction of Anne Hathaway's cottage! The cottage is enchanting, every bit as lovely as the photos, with an exquisite garden to stroll through and get lost in. We stayed in Romeo's room, appropriate for we two Romeos, and it was quiet, comfortable, and elegant. The proprietor, Juliette (yes, Juliette), has lots of great books around about England and Shakespeare, and made a terrific breakfast. She has tea, sherry, and port always available, and the cats, Lear and Portia, are sweet and mannerly. Everything was tidy, comfortable, and welcoming. The cottage is easy walking distance to charming downtown Staunton and the Blackfriars Theater (ten minutes at most), and right next door to a very good lunch/coffee house. We were sad to leave, but happy to have had the opportunity to stay in such a magical spot!

Delightful Sojourn in an amazinf structure

The cottage is so well designed and carefully appointed. We relished your marvelous food, relaxed in the spacious garden and loved visiting with you, Juliette

Looks like a British Cottage!!

4.4 on June 09, 2015

The hostess and the home were lovely. It truly had the feel of a British cottage. The garden was disappointedly not in beautiful manicured condition. (weeds and over-grown) The main livingroom had a musty smell....a bit like a nursing home. (I would suggest a plug-in or other type of room freshener.) The regular breakfast served was a delicious, same for all meal. On-line it sounded like special diets would be catered to. However, I avoid meat and dairy. I asked if oatmeal was available. Yes, it was. I was disappointed that the oatmeal was an instant packet. It was a nice, one time visit experience. We are not likely to stay here again.

Awesome place to stay!!

A little taste of England

I felt like I was visiting England upon entering Anne Hathaway's Cottage. A great location for shopping and exploring. Combine all this with a great hostess and you can't go wrong.

Maple Festival Getaway

5 on March 12, 2014

We had a lovely stay in Romeo's room - which I like because of the calming green tones. Nice, oversized bathroom, and a comfortable bed with lots of good reading at hand made for a great sleep. Tea and sherry and port available at all hours, which was nice to come back to after a dinner out. We walked to Zynodoa, which is a fantastic restaurant in Staunton's downtown area. The following morning we walked across the street for some time in the old cemetery Thornrose. It was beautiful! Breakfast was fabulous, and Juliette did a lovely job accommodating our dietary restrictions. Thanks again!

Unique b&b

4.2 on December 13, 2013

We stayed at this b&b and enjoyed it very much. It is quite a unique place. We felt like we were in a cottage in the middle of England. Our host was very welcoming and she cooked a good hearty breakfast. This b&b was clean and we'll maintained. We stayed in December so the garden wasn't in bloom. It would be worth going back in the spring for another stay and to check out the garden.

About the innkeepers

I grew up in a hotel in Bath, England. I have owner and operated several B&Bs but this is the only one I had built! We have a Shakespearean theatre here - hence the connection as Anne was Shakespeare's wife. I went to university in Colorado and moved East 20 years ago. I love gardening, painting watercolours and entertaining guests.
