About

Vineyards in late summer and early fall are lovely...what a great time to stay with us, take a stroll in a vineyard - mornings are cool, days are getting shorter - the light is great for outdoor dining in the evening! High Meadows is the perfect spot for all your central Virginia activities...orchards, vineyards, breweries - let us plan a great 2 or 3 day itinerary. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and a Virginia Historic Landmark,High Meadows is an inviting farmhouse with cozy rooms, modern amenities, and fantastic food. Our Inn is located in the quaint Town of Scottsville, on the banks of the Great Horseshoe Bend of the James River. Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home, is a mere 16 miles away. A beautifully preserved World Heritage Site, the gardens are in full glory through October...take a tour! Wineries, cideries, breweries and distilleries are located all around us (over 30 within 20 miles of High Meadows Vineyard Inn), and the agricultural network of local farmers who connect directly with our local chefs (and us!) is ahead of the national curve - we count ourselves lucky to have such local bounty and to be a part of the farm-to-table movement. Our High Meadows Vineyard Inn breakfast menu reflects that - featuring local, seasonal recipes, that honor Virginia's southern heritage...and it's included in your stay, of course. High Meadows is a country inn-on 13 acres of woodlands and gardens, including a 2-acre Pinot Noir vineyard, planted in 1984 - though having a rough year right now. The meadows and woods are home to deer, fox, and all sorts of other wildlife-we are on the James River Loop of the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail-with birding groups stopping at High Meadows every year for the past 30 years. King size beds, luxurious Anichini linens, great coffee, and space to enjoy yourself - we give a modern twist to traditional B&B hospitality.Stay with us for a perfect homebase to enjoy all that Charlottesville and Central Virginia has

High times at High Meadows

5 on September 29, 2014

A nice, large, immaculately clean room awaited our arrival at High Meadow's. Large windows overlooked a dear deer trail. On the second day we noted that Bambi AND her mother were alive and well. We took a real three day vacation this time. No t v in the room , but a nice Bose radio allowed for some softer moments. The huge king size bed was extremely comfortable. It was cool enough with the windows open to need the two quilt for the evening. Lots of comfortable sitting space and a clean , nice bathroom. Breakfast was great and the coffee delicious. We hit the winery route early - kinda early. The scenery is incredibly beautiful with enough shops and wineries to keep us busy all day. We had a gourmet lunch at the Pippin Hill winery- the magnificent view of the Blue Ridge was really worth the trip. Thanks Nancy for your great tour ideas! The little town of Scottsboro is just minutes away. We had a wonderful meal at Amichi's (?) and another at the Smoke House ( wow, thanks chef ). We will be back! Next time we go to High Meadows we will have to cover the breweries, Charlottesville and many other great mountain stops. I can't imagine the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains during full fall leaf season. Thanks to Nancy and the staff for your wonderful treatment during our stay. It was over and above . Our best wishes. Bruce and Emily Annapolis, Md.

Wonderful Restful Stay!

4.6 on September 29, 2014

High Meadows provided us with a great peaceful place to stay while we explored local wineries, cideries & Charlottesville. The place is really LOVELY! Our hosts (Nancy & her daughter) were very helpful providing us with great tips on where to go. We loved our room and enjoyed walking around the pretty grounds. Another plus was how easy it was to get into Charlottesville from High Meadows....just take the road (Route 20) that the B&B is on all the way into the historic district of Charlottesville. We loved High Meadows & are very much looking forward to a return visit soon!

First Timers Experience

3.2 on September 27, 2014

This was my husband's and my first time staying in a B&B so we were not sure what to expect. We were warmly greeted by Nancy, who we assume was the owner. We stayed in the cottage which was charming, but also in need of some repairs as the casement windows were opened a bit, but with broken cranks we were unable to close them. Although we had to be in Charlottesville the next morning at 9, breakfast was served at 8:30 and we were assured we would be able to make it. After rising and showering (indeed the shower was roomy with great warmth and water pressure) we made coffee using the warming pot provided in the room. I realize the cottage next to a wooded area, but finding a bug floating in the newly made cup of coffee did not entice us into the main house for breakfast. Instead we drove into Charlottesville and paid for breakfast. We would NOT have made it to our destination by 9:00 even if we would have dined and dashed, much less be able to listen to the history of the house and any information about the surrounding area or nearby wineries. (I was under the impression that most B&B's try to make reasonable accommodations in situations such as this, but no offer was made to serve us a bit earlier.). We did have dinner at Nancy's son's restaurant and found the food and service to be excellent, hence the dining rating. We especially found the manager and the wait staff to be warm and friendly and told us a bit about the surrounding area. We hesitated about writing a review, but felt not saying anything isn't helpful to those involved either. So many of the reviews read indicate a much different experience so I am assuming we may have just hit the inn at a bad time and had a difficult time with the star ratings. We will certainly try another B&B experience, but were hoping for more from this first experience.

High marks for High Meadows

4.4 on September 26, 2014

This historic home has beautiful rooms and laid back, restful vibe. The grounds are a highlight, with gardens that are clearly well cared for but also a little bit wild and rural. Nancy's a great host and her son's restaurant, about five minutes' drive away, serves awesome food if you're looking for a nice dinner.

Wonderful Facility, Wonderful Hosts

5 on September 22, 2014

This is the nicest B&B we've stayed in Virginia. Nancy and the staff enjoy the opportunity to makes the guests stay a memorable one. We couldn't have asked for a better time both there and in the surrounding area. We'll be back!

A Hidden Charm

3.6 on August 29, 2014

What a lovely place to visit and feel as though you have come "home" the moment you arrive. The staff is wonderful and could not be more helpful and accommodating to us the entire time. A wonderful breakfast is fresh and hearty with just the right touches. There is no TV but there is internet so you can stay in touch if you choose to but a much better option is to explore the grounds and surrounding area to really shut down and enjoy your visit. I'll certainly go back and enjoy more Southern Hospitality

Great Place!

Everything was lovely about High Meadows. We enjoyed the room, the grounds, the area, and most of all the breakfast! Everything was delicious and everyone was so helpful with getting us around the area and where to go.

Cozy comfy inn

4.4 on August 25, 2014

Cozy and welcoming, this inn occupies a lovely country setting a few minutes from the small town of Scottsville. The innkeeper was a fountain of information and a charming hostess. We will go again if we get a chance!
