Summer is off to a terrific start! Canoe or tube the James River, go HORSEBACK RIDING in a vineyard, visit our local farmers markets - the list of summertime adventures is endless. Hiking, waterfalls, swimming holes...within 45 minutes of High Meadows! Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and a Virginia Historic Landmark - High Meadows is an inviting farmhouse with cozy rooms, modern amenities, and fantastic food. Our Inn is located in the quaint Town of Scottsville, on the banks of the Great Horseshoe Bend of the James River. Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home, is a mere 16 miles away. A beautifully preserved World Heritage Site, the gardens are in full glory through October...take a tour! Wineries, cideries, breweries and distilleries are located all around us (over 30 within 20 miles of High Meadows Vineyard Inn), and the agricultural network of local farmers who connect directly with our local chefs (and us!) is ahead of the national curve - we count ourselves lucky to have such local bounty and to be a part of the farm-to-table movement. Our High Meadows Vineyard Inn breakfast menu reflects that - featuring local, seasonal recipes, that honor Virginia's southern heritage...and it's included in your stay, of course. High Meadows is a country inn-on 13 acres of woodlands and gardens, including a 2-acre Pinot Noir vineyard, planted in 1984 - though having a rough year right now. The meadows and woods are home to deer, fox, and all sorts of other wildlife-we are on the James River Loop of the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail-with birding groups stopping at High Meadows every year for the past 30 years. King size beds, luxurious Anichini linens, great coffee, and space to enjoy yourself - we give a modern twist to traditional B&B hospitality.Stay with us for a perfect homebase to enjoy all that Charlottesville and Central Virginia has to offer!
The entire attic floor of the Federalist house. Peaked ceiling, clawfoot soaking tub and handheld shower, separate marble tile shower, and a charming king round bed add to the peaceful sweetness of this room. Truly private, the Dogwood is accessed by it's own tall staircase and has 4 tiny windows on either end that look out into the dogwood branches. Pretty in any season - the leaves in fall turn a vibrant red.
The Cottage Suite is the right side of our woodland cottage. With a private sitting area and deck overlooking the back woods, the only sounds you are likely to hear are the birds. Painted to envoke a true cottage experience, this room has the space to spread out and enjoy just a night, or several - have dinner in your own room and curl up to relax with a good book.
Bright and sunny yellow, with a beautiful queen bed. An antique clawfoot tub and handheld shower invite a long soak...in front of the fireplace in fall and winter. Views of the side azalea garden and the front VA Pinoit Noir vineyard are a pleasant way to watch the sun go down.
Also on the second floor of the Victorian house, this room has a king bed, a large walk-in shower, and a cozy armchair to settle in with a good book, in front of the fireplace in fall and winter. Pale willow green walls are accented by chartreuse silk curtains and pillows, and luxurious Anichini linens.
Located on the second floor of the Victorian house, this room has an antique king, four-posted bed, a large walk-in shower and is a beautiful pale blue...the color of a robin's egg, as the room name suggests.
This room is on the main level of the Victorian house. With a large bay window, a luxurious king bed, two-person whirlpool tub and fireplace, this is one of our most requested rooms. Many original finishes still exist on doors and trim, including the faux painted slate mantel and window shutters.
Cottage Room...is the left side of our woodland cottage Charlottesville B&B. A king bed, generous stand-up shower and big window looking out into the woods - curl up on the loveseat and watch the birds!

We spent a delightful two nights at High Meadows in July 2014. The main building is comprised of the original section built in the early 1800s and the newer part constructed in the late 1800s. We stayed in a second floor room in the newer section. The weather was torridly hot and we were concerned that our second floor Willow room would be stuffy, but it was actually very, very comfortable thanks to the A/C system. Breakfasts were delicious. Innkeeper Nancy welcomes all the guests and orients them to the local attractions in the grater Charlottesville area. Be sure to visit the little town of Scottsville and, if you are staying over a weekend, try the Hatton Ferry five miles west, which is only remaining pole operated car ferry in the country. This inn is about a 25 minute drive from downtown Charlottesville and all its attractions. We had a delightful time and look forward to revisiting it in the near future.

Delightful b&b near Charlottesville, VA. Breakfasts were absolutely delicious every day. Nancy, our hostess, and her family made us feel so at home that we truly felt like family! Nancy made wonderful suggestions for places to see in the area and gave great directions! The 3 outdoor (only) cats were great to visit with too. This b&b is very close to Monticello and Ash Lawn--easy day trips. Would definitely stay here again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at High Meadows! The shabby chic decor throughout was delightful and inspiring, the gourmet breakfasts were delectable and the location was close to so many opportunities in the Charlottesville area, but far enough away to really relax in the solitude of the countryside.

My husband and I had a great visit to High Meadows last week. We had the Living Social voucher for two weekday nights and a credit towards dinner in the family's restaurant in town. Excellent value. The house is great. We stayed in the Daffodil Room, which is lovely, well-appointed, very comfortable. The in-room tub is charming, though a little impractical. Breakfast both mornings was delicious and beautifully presented. Nancy is a great hostess: approachable and happy to give suggestions and directions around Scottsville and Charlottesville, but never officious. We would love to make another visit in the future.

What a great Living Social deal! The inn is truly lovely...Nancy is not only a gracious hostess, but very knowledgeable about the area. We got to enjoy a dinner at her son's restaurant in Scottsdale as part of the deal and that was fastastic too!. Would do this again in a heart beat!

Great find and good value. Wonderful place to come back to after a day of sightseeing. Location was perfect for touring vineyards and tasting wines. Stayed in cottage room and had view of the surrounding woods. Meeting other guests at the Inn was a delightful experience. Breakfasts were delicious, staff was helpful and courteous, and accommodations were nicely adorned. Hope to return.

Beautiful country inn. Nancy is a very attentive hostess who really knows the area and makes the guests feel at home. We stayed in the small cottage near the main building, which had a very nice wrap-around deck replete with resident cats. I really have no complaints. The Living Social deal, which included a $50 credit to a very nice restaurant in town, was a terrific value.

The drive to and from Towns around Scotsville are scenic, but plan to not be in a rush.

My husband and I decided to stay here for our anniversary/babymoon. This inn was very clean and the innkeepers were friendly, and accommodating. We enjoyed the quietness of the grounds and felt that we paid a great price. This is a wonderful spot if you want to stay near Charlottesville, but not in the city. Thank you for an amazing vacation. We felt ready to get home to our 2 year old and prepared for our new little one to come along.

We have stayed in many Bed and Breakfast Inns; most have been very pleasant experiences...a couple not so much (but that is a different review). High Meadows was an exceptional find! Nancy was a wonderful hostess who made us feel so welcome and at home. We have learned over the years to not be shy about making ourselves comfortable in the common areas. This was certainly the inn for us! We took advantage of the sitting area one evening to enjoy our wine and cheese "dinner" after a long day and just wanting to stay "home" for dinner. The inn itself is very charming and the accommodations are very well done. We stayed in the Robins Nest and found it to be just perfect for our needs. Our breakfasts each morning were beautifully prepared and presented. Knowing that Nancy locally sources her ingredients made the breakfast even more special. All in all, this is an inn we plan to return to with family or friends in tow! Thank you, Nancy for a lovely weekend!
