The Black Lantern Inn has been lovingly restored and decorated over the years to become Roanoke's most charming Inn. Ron and Claire, the owners, were recipients of the City of Roanoke's Architectural Review Board's Preservation Excellence Award. The Inn was featured in Bella magazine as "truly first class" for hospitality, gourmet breakfasts, well appointed rooms, attention to detail, and outstanding "green" practices. We are perfectly located for guests eager to enjoy a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, a bicycle ride on the Roanoke River Greenway, hiking trails, a round of golf, or a night on the town. If you simply want to relax with a glass of wine on the porch, listen to music in our comfy living room, or indulge in a spa bath, you've come to the right place.

I just returned home from the Black Lantern Inn. Where to start? The house itself is amazing. I loved looking at the before and after photos. As stated in some other reviews, the renovation was detailed and every space within the Inn is both beautiful and comfortable. Then on top of the space is Ron. He claims to have just started cooking when he opened the Black Lantern. Can that really be believed?? The breakfasts were delicious - I've never had better pancakes and french toast. Everything was prepared fresh and at whatever time I desired. There is more than one space to eat breakfast, but I enjoyed the dining room facing into the kitchen. I felt right at home chatting with Ron as he was preparing the food. Definitely will be back to the Black Lantern if I return to Roanoke.

The Black Lantern Inn is beautifully restored and decorated. The room was very comfortable and the bathroom had the amenities and finishes I would expect of a much more expensive place. Truly a gorgeous house. The location is convenient, too (especially to the Blue Ridge Parkway) and breakfast was delicious. Ron was great to talk with at breakfast and it was interesting to hear about the house restoration. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Roanoke!

We stayed at the Black Lantern in October 2011, for my wife's and mine and everything about BL was 1st class. We WILL be returning this year again. Ron/Claire were superb hosts. I even suggested to my wife to try another B&B and she would not have it. If you can impress her, then you have a winner. Bottom line... An 11 out of 10!!!

Last year we came here for our 35th wedding anniversary, now here we are a year later once again. This place is great! The rooms are modern, immaculate, well appointed bathrooms with Turkish towels that I wish we had. Ron has been here both times but we just met Clarie this visit as she was out of town last year and both are pleasant people and were great to be around. I was up early one morning while my wife was still asleep and Ron and I share stories and coffee. One of the nicest places we have ever stayed and we obviously recommend it greatly for a few nights get away in a nice part of Virginia!
