This was my first time staying at a bed and breakfast and wow they really raised the bar high!!!! It was a beautiful house and we loved our room. It's conveniently located to downtown Harrisonburg and just a short trip to skyline drive. The bed in our room (which was the 1790 suite in the main house) was THE MOST COMFORTABLE bed I have ever slept in. It was so soft and cozy. They deliver breakfast to your door each morning. And the meals were DELICIOUS!!!! I can't say enough how wonderful our experience was. Super sweet folks and super clean and comfy rooms. We look so forward to going again.

My husband and I come up to the Virginia Mountains at least 4 times a year, and stay in different areas. This was the first time in Harrisonburg and I must say, the Water Lilly Suite was perfect! Every little detail was amazing and the experience was first class. Having breakfast delivered to our door was such a wonderful treat. The suite was very cozy and elegant, and the shower was so nice that my husband and I want to build one just like it when we add on to our house!

2nd stay for my wife and I at The Side of the Road, both times in the 1790 Suite. They have taken out the day bed, which makes sitting room now quite comfortable for breakfast, reading and TV/video viewing. Breakfasts were very delicious and beautifully presented. As building is quite old, the heavy rain storm did expose a few minor leaks and gaps in windows and porch door, but otherwise the stay was very comfortable. Please note that older guests may find traditional tub difficult to access.

My husband and I spent two nights in the Mountain Laurel and we couldn't have been more impressed! It was absolutely lovely - from the view overlooking a pond and the main house beyond that, to the inviting, comforting bed, to an amazing shower, that had a shower and jet stream, to a gourmet breakfast, that was delivered directly to your room, and a gas fireplace below a flat screen television. We felt completely pampered in this beautifully decorated and clean cottage! This is a place that must be experienced!

My husband and I visited for our 25th anniversary and everything was just perfect! We had a wonderful, relaxing stay plus visited attractions in the local area while we were there. The cottage was private and exceeded our expectations in every way! Thank you Janice, Dennis and Anna!
You are most welcome! We hope you'll return for another celebration in the future!

We arrived early to a very warm welcome under the shade of the two magnificent Black Walnut Trees that flank the front porch! This was our second visit in the past year and we delighted to be introduced to the 24/7 coffee service located in the Main house Foyer! This was also our second stay in the 1790 suite where we LOVE to sit on the balcony Under the Canopies of the Black Walnuts and enjoy our coffee & Shenandoah Valley sunrises in our PJs ! Breakfast at the door (and the gentle knock, knock) is always delightful and was a great start for our daily morning adventure at the Edith Carrier Arboretum! We enjoyed our strolls & dining in downtown Harrisonburg as well as our trips to the town of Dayton and its Farmers Market. A trip to the White Oak Lavender Farm was a must and we were quite thrilled with the tour, the animals and learning about the production of Lavender products. And it was always so nice to come Home to"By the Side of the Road" and sit on our Balcony in the comfort of the Walnut Trees and enjoy another Beautiful Shenandoah Valley Evening!
We love your detailed review that will be so helpful to those unfamiliar with our City/region. We can't wait for your return. A winter visit is a whole different experience with the cozy fireplaces welcoming you back to your suite each evening. Best regards!

Great honeymoon spot. Breakfast was delicious and loved the door delivery every morning. I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to get away from it all and enjoy peace and quiet.
We sincerely hope you'll celebrate every anniversary By the Side of the Road and that there will be many, many of them! Thanks so much! Janice
