I came east to spend a mother-daughter week in DC where my daughter works. She is in a high stress job and I wanted to cap off our week together with a perfect weekend get-away! After some research I settled on the Inn at 400 West High, and did I bat 1,000!! After a fun and scenic drive from DC we approached the lovely Mediterranean Inn that was a picture postcard! Greeted by the lovely and gracious Carolyn, we were gently shown around and to our room, the McIntire, which could have popped right out of the pages of Beautiful Homes & Gardens magazine! We spent a wonderful two days and nights at the Inn. Slept on beds like clouds, ate perfect food, not too heavy, just right to start our days, and spent time taking in the fantastic historic downtown mall which was just a few blocks away! We couldn't have asked for a better end to our mother-daughter vacation and it will be a beautiful memory for us, one we hope to repeat on my future visits to this beautiful side of our country (made especially beautiful because my daughter resides here)! We had a wonderful anniversary weekend at the Inn. The McIntyre was perfect. We enjoyed the balcony at sunrise and sunset. Food was wonderful and our hosts were fun and very accomodating. Perfect location for walking to dining and shopping and getting out into the beautiful Virginia countryside. We will be back. Thank you Carolyn!!!
Can't wait for you all to come back! I was so impressed with the planning you put into your trip! You all made the most of your few days! Congrats....see you on your 21st?

My husband and I stayed at the Inn for his birthday August 17 and 18, 2015. Totally random selection for the Inn and couldn't have been more pleased. Not only was the Inn within walking distance of downtown, Carolyn and the staff were charming and very hospitable. Our room, The Altamant, was beautiful with an amazing shower. We had the most delicious breakfast each day prepared by a lovely and talented young chef named Ann. She was a delight. Enjoyed our stay immensely-- highly recommend this Inn and we'll definitely be back!
We love special occasions! Glad you all celebrated with us! Looking forward to a return visit!

My daughter and I had a wonderful 2 nights stay at The Inn at 400 West High in July, 2015. We felt taken care of. Key points and highlights: The People - Independent or Chatty, Up to You Carolyn and 2 lovely young women who served us breakfast (our "Hosts") were all friendly, helpful, & kind. They were helpful with information (what to see, where to eat, Carolyn especially helped with finding a doctor for us to see during our visit - thank you!), chatted if you wanted to chat, but also gave their guests their independence if they didn't want to talk or visit. Felt free to enjoy the community room, grab a cookie, sit and read in your room or outside or in the kitchen. Felt free to come and go. Beautiful, Clean Rooms and Inn The McIntire Room was comfortable, clean, and beautiful with its fireplace, comfortable bed, own private balcony bathed in sunshine and comfy chairs & tables, and the spacious, clean bathroom. Quiet nights. Free wifi and TV. The entire inn was decorated beautifully. Plenty of space, and you felt free to come and go. Lots of nooks and cushions (a window seat) to tuck away into. Great Location Short walk to the old town area with lovely shops and restaurants. Short drive from Monticello. Close to the University. Tasty Breakfast - Prepared and served with smiles. We were asked if we had allergies, and breakfast was served in an open and sunny room. When we had to rise and leave early for a balloon ride, they prepared a breakfast snack for us & left it in the refrigerator so we would see it in the morning. When we arrived back from the sunrise balloon trip, we made it in time to have a full breakfast. Handy and Helpful We bought an umbrella when it rained, were given as a gift a book that my daughter had started to read but didn't finish, and were guided to a doctor when we needed to make a visit. There was always something to snack on, something to drink. We felt very welcomed and at home. All in all, a wonderful stay!
You all were a delight to have as guests. So sorry you had a tour of our local emergency room.....Now I think you need to come back to tour some other local attractions instead! Be well and hope to see you for a return visit some day!

Such a beautifully designed and arranged inn! The service is impeccable, and the inn was so comfortable in every way, inside and out. Close to some of the country's finest restaurants as well as incredible history and a great university....those from in town (as my wife and I are) and from miles away will enjoy this gem!
We love having locals take a "staycation" at The Inn. Hope your anniversary was all you hoped it to be and may you have many more!

We loved both Charlottesville and The Inn at 400 West High. It was a nice walk into the market area. The room was fantastic and breakfast was excellent (gluten free for me was not a problem). Carolyn and the staff were very nice and helpful. We stayed on our way to Atlanta and more to the point we didn't hesitate to stay there again on our way back home. Can't wait to visit again next year !
We were thrilled to have you visit on your return trip through Charlottesville. I hope we are in your path frequently in the future!

We enjoyed a comfortable, relaxing, and elegant weekend at the Inn at 400 West High. Despite the rain on Steeple Chase day, our weekend was delightful. The breakfasts were delicious, the ambience very friendly, and the Inn's walking proximity to the historic mall and great dining made this visit worth repeating.
So sorry about the rain! We believe that Charlottesville on a rainy day is better than a lot of places on a sunny day! It was so nice to visit with you and we hope to see you again soon!

A wonderful stay and breakfast in Charlottesville. The McIntire room was beautiful with a private entrance, sun drenched porch, and fireplace. With its central location, historic charm, and warm atmosphere I can't imagine staying anywhere else.
Thank you for your kind words! It was wonderful having you visit! We do reside in a beautiful area and we are always happy to share it. Hope you will plan a return visit soon!

We (at UVA) arranged for a visiting Ambassador to stay at the Inn; he loved it so much he hopes to bring his family there to stay on a future visit to DC.
We so appreciate working with The University of Virginia and loved having the Ambassador visit. We do hope he can return with his family!
With a stunning rooftop terrace garden overlooking McIntire Road, this room features an exquisitely appointed king bed and a private bathroom with a lovely tiled shower. Including a private entrance leading out onto a peaceful rooftop terrace and a wrought-iron spiral staircase entering an enclosed courtyard, the McIntire Room combines southern charm with the fantasy of staying in a castle turret. Enchantingly light and airy in spring and summer, this room has a working fireplace to keep you warm and toasty when the weather cools.
With its beautiful brick floor, luxurious king bed, and working fireplace, this room is as comfortable as it is chic. Its private terrace includes a sitting area to make it easy to spend time outside listening to the chirping of the birds and enjoying the residential beauty of Altamont Street. Located on the ground floor, the room can be accessed from its private entrance or from the Inn?s central Gathering Room. The private bathroom includes a pedestal sink and a beautiful, large, tiled shower with steam jets, a large rainhead, and a seat.
Named after Preston Street, one of the highways that brings travelers right to the Inn, this collection of elegant rooms includes a luxurious bedroom with a queen size bed and a study with a daybed and trundle. And just off of the study is a bright, cheery sunroom just right for curling up with your favorite book. The comfortable bathroom includes an Italian tiled shower with a large rainhead. With its own private entrance, the Preston Suite makes it easy to come and go as you please, but with a room like this, who wouldn?t want to stay a while?
An executive suite for those who want to stay a while, this apartment is the crowning glory of The Inn at 400 West High and the perfect home away from home for business travelers. Equipped with a full kitchen, including stove and full-sized oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, Cuisinart coffeemaker and coffee press, as well as cooking and dining utensils, this apartment is designed to accommodate those who want to entertain guests with their culinary capabilities or cook homemade meals for their nearest and dearest. A small dining table and chairs make the perfect place for families to come together after a long day at a Shenandoah National Park, a UVA football game, Monticello or a lovely evening out on the downtown mall. Decorated with tasteful hints of aviary flight and fancy, this apartment?s bedroom features a cozy queen-sized bed, wireless Internet, a flat-screen cable television, and a DVD player. Nearby, a combination study-and-sunroom includes a small desk for working, reading, or postcard writing and a full-sized platform bed with coiled mattress that folds out to create extra sleeping space. With French doors opening onto your rooftop garden terrace where a table and chairs await your guests and a good bottle of wine, this room gives visitors a chance to contemplate the picturesque views of southern small city life. But such vistas are, quite frankly, dwarfed by the radiance of a 1921 stained glass window, brought over all the way from Florence, Italy, that elevates this apartment into a work of art. Located in, of all places, the bathroom, this awe-inspiring window is complemented by an arched ceiling with exposed wooden beams and a large, bright luxury shower. This could be your only chance to not only bask but bathe in the presence of such glorious glasswork!
This room is located at the front of the house, just off of the front entrance. Featuring an elegantly appointed queen bed and a large private bathroom with a tiled shower, this room epitomizes old Virginia charm, giving guests a sense of southern elegance and southern comfort.
