The Inn at 400 West was a delightful stop on our way home from a visit to NC. We were a family of three which typically makes it difficult to stay at a B and B. This Inn had a room that was perfect for us. In addition, the staff was friendly and helpful, the Innkeeper was extremely knowledgeable and communicated prior to our arrival, and after our departure, and the breakfast cooked by the morning staff person (I forget her name) was wonderful. All the amenities and extra touches were so nice; we even played a couple of board games in our room in the evening that were available at the Inn. I wish we could have stayed longer than one night. I would return without hesitation.
Thank you for your kind words. We always love to hear that the Inn was a relaxing, restful, and fun place to stay while in Charlottesville! Hope you will return soon!

I just read all of the reviews already posted, and couldn't agree more with the 5-star ratings! We were five women in our 50s who travel to a different place every year for a long weekend. This was by far the best place we have stayed in all respects! The location, beautiful decor and garden, cozy rooms, comfortable beds and luxurious sheets, fabulous food, thoughtful "extras," and overall superb hospitality! We loved Amanda and her breakfasts! I would definitely stay here again and again. Tina (Austin, Texas)
We love having girlfriend get-togethers at the Inn. The love and laughter is delightful! There is so much to do in beautiful Charlottesville that you need to come back!

We visited The Inn at 400 West High for our 20th wedding anniversary weekend in C'ville, where we met. We loved it! The rooms are very comfortable; the breakfast room is relaxing and beautiful. Breakfast was exceptional. Since it was our anniversary, I asked for a small fruit/cheese tray which they provided with all local foods. We enjoyed it sitting out in the garden area. The Inn is conveniently located within a short walk of the downtown walking mall in C'ville. We will definitely be back!
It was so nice to have you celebrating at The Inn at 400 West High! We will look forward to your 21st!

Wonderful place to stay. Have been here before, the only negative this stay was the breakfast. Everything else from the beds to the shower to the inn keeper is top notch. Will continue to stay here when I visit Charlottesville.
It's always nice to have you visit and this time was especially nice since I got to meet your other daughter! Thanks for your comment about breakfast...not sure what happened, but we won't let you walk away from the table unhappy again! See you in September, if not before!

Back in Charlottesville for reunions, we wished this most welcoming and cozy refuge had been available when we were students. Gracious hosts, close to sites for shopping and dining, very comfortable beds, and a relaxed atmosphere made this an A-Plus adventure.
Thank you for choosing The Inn at 400 West High on your recent visit for reunion weekend. Congratulations on 40 years in your career and that new book you just published! Hope to see you again in the near future!

This is a delightful B&B. The rooms are attractive, warm, comfortable and quiet - charming! The common areas are perfect for a small group or for a larger family get together. Amanda made terrific breakfasts and Carolyn was a gracious host. Readily available amenities such as coffee, tea and water. Just a 2 minute walk to the downtown pedestrian mall and easy access to the University of Virginia as well as local historical sites. We stayed in the Preston Suite. It could not have been better. Highly recommended.
Thank you so much for your kind words! So glad you had a wonderful stay! Looking forward to your next trip to Charlottesville!

Carolyn was lovely and helpful over the phone. She sent a helpful e-mail the day before our stay, customizing an early check-in time, and making sure we had our plans for C-ville worked out. We arrived even earlier than expected, called Carolyn, and she came right over to check us in. The B&B is beautifully decorated with beautiful colors, fabrics, furnishings, and accent pieces. There is thoughtful attention to detail, such as large umbrellas for use at every exterior door, comfortable bed, lovely bed linens, and huge rainfall showerhead. There are tons of books to read and games to play. One trade-off of the ideal central downtown location is the space. The kitchen, dining room, and common room are all one combined room. The cooking occurs in the same room that breakfast is served. You eat at small metal cafe tables and chairs. The Preston Suite is large overall with a sitting room and a sun room, but the trade-off is that it has a small bedroom and small bathroom. Breakfast is advertised as between 8:00-10:00 a.m. Carolyn asked what time we’d like breakfast and we said 8:00-8:30 a.m. When we came down at 8:15 a.m., three people were in the kitchen/breakfast room/common room in the process of making breakfast. They said that breakfast was not until 9:00 a.m. Breakfast tasted fine, but it was the smallest breakfast we've ever had at a B&B, very atypical. Breakfast on the second day was a huge improvement. A lovely young couple had replaced the previous day's threesome for cooking and serving breakfast. They had breakfast ready and the kitchen cleaned up by the time we came down at 8:30 a.m. Breakfast was again tasty, but very tiny and unfilling. A few concerns. The Preston Suite was extremely cold at all times, especially at night. The first morning, I had hot water for the first 30 seconds or so of my shower, and the remainder was ice cold. Carolyn e-mailed us that very same day to apologize and inform us that she'd have them looked into.
Thank you for your review. We always appreciate when our guests take the time to give us insight into how we are doing. As I said in my earlier email to you, I wish that we had known of the temperature concerns in your room as we could have easily made it toasty for you! I'm glad that your husband didn't have the same problem with the shower that you did and that your second morning was so much better. We looked into why that could have happened and will continue to monitor it. In my email response to you the day that you checked out I did apologize for the miscommunication in breakfast times and I will take this chance to apologize again. I do hope you will return to our lovely city and if you choose not to stay with us, please know that we have some other beautiful Bed and Breakfasts in the area.

Quaint and clean, The Inn at 400 West High stands at the top of all places I have ever stayed. Caroline, the owner, is charming and her establishment is sophisticated in every aspect. Located just a block away from the downtown mall area, this bed and breakfast offers absolutely everything you want in a place to stay! In fact, my husband and I have stayed here on two separate occasions because we enjoy it so much! This is by far the best, most hospitable place I have ever stayed!
