About

One of Newport’s most original and elegant accommodations the Simeon Potter House, circa 1723, is an Award Winning historic renovation; the home was a featured recipient of the 2004 Newport Preservation Award. Located on the water in the oldest section of Newport “the Point” this lovely home enjoys premium views of the Bay and the evening sunsets; one can relax with the wafting of the gentle, summer breeze in the color and song of the garden. The Captain Simeon Potter House provides pictures and historic commentary on the spacious rooms, original art and period furnishings that blend seamlessly into this lovingly restored 18th century sea captain’s home. This is your retreat, your sanctuary; linen always white, always crisp, inviting you to partake in the art of restorative sleep…think sleep. Heated towel bars, individual Heat/AC, phone & internet ports, TV and robes. The replication of the exact, profile and detail of the original trim and the soft, bayberry, palette; with the wide 290 year old honey colored, pine floors reflect luxury, quiet and calm.

NW chamber

Your Room is decorated with period furnishings organized on balance and symmetry; as visual metaphors for reasoned order; they are eminently desirable symbols of authority and simplicity in the Georgian composition of your room. The bed, its headboard a single, thick slab of Honduran mahogany, may have arrived on a returning vessel on Newport's Triangle Trade, which plied the waters between Africa, the Caribbean, and then back to Newport carrying molasses and the highly prized Honduran mahogany.

Beautiful Stay

5 on February 23, 2014

Treated my wife to an anniversary weekend in Newport, so the accommodations were important. I would say I found a gem of an inn. The owner, Joanna, is a wonderful woman: gracious, kind, respectful, and warm. She went out of her way to make us feel at home, and we did. Her breakfast was home-cooked and amazing. The entire inn is spotless, and Joanna is meticulous with the decor (true to colonial times) and the pays attention to your every need. The room was beautifully appointed, bed was very comfortable, and bathroom was European in style, even with heated towel racks. We awoke to an amazing moonrise over Narragansett bay, with deep blue waters and the Pell bridge in the background. I highly recommend this inn.

Perfect weekend getaway

4.6 on October 30, 2013

We recently stayed at the Simeon Potter House to celebrate my moms birthday with our immediate and extended family (we're a large and loud group) All of the concerns we had about fitting in the house comfortably disappeared as soon as we got there. The house is big, with charming nooks and cranny's everywhere that made more than enough room for everyone to spread out and was fun for the kids. The house is beautifully done and impeccably restored allowing guests to truly appreciate the house and it's history. The location was perfect being steps from town and with beautiful views of the water. We couldn't have dreamt up a better spot to celebrate my mothers birthday and look forward to visiting the Simeon Potter House again.

Weekend away

I recently stayed at the Captain Simeon Potter House for a weekend getaway and it was a pleasure. The house was immaculate, the room was simple and elegant and the location was perfect, walking distance to the wharfs and many restaurants. The breakfast every morning was AMAZING!!! Joanna was the perfect host and was extremely accommodating when we had a last minute reschedule. I would recommend this B&B to everyone and look forward to visiting again.
