The Aycock Crews House is named for the original owner and the last descendant of the family before it came into our possession in December of 2010. East Columbia is located between West Columbia and Angleton, Texas in Braoria County. It is South of Houston and North of Freeport. East Columbia on the Brazos River was the largest river port in Texas prior to the Civil War and is still navigable year round. Captain Richard Aycock was the last riverboat captain and pilot to work a stern wheel paddleboat on the Brazos River. Captain Aycock had the home built for his wife Susanah. Their first child was born there in 1881. The three bedroom Victorian house is nestled in the National Historic District of East Columbia, Texas. There are more historic markers in this small community than there are streets. It is furnished with antique and modern furnishings to insure that your stay is comfortable and relaxing. Each room has a coffee bar and private bath. There is a flat screen TV in each room with a DVD player. The enclosed sun porch is perfect for lounging and reading or writing a post card home. The front and back porches are lovely and have seating areas to enjoy sun rises as well as sun sets. While quests are not allowed to cook in the kitchen, the refrigerator is available. It is stocked with water, sodas & fruit you are welcome to snack on.
