Inn Details
Looking for a unique place to hang your hat in Fredericksburg over the weekend? Look no further - stay in our rustic yet plush railroad car - just like Teddy Rooselvelt did in April of 1905 when he was the personal guest of the original owner of this business car.
This car was once the pride of Samuel Burke Burnett, a famous Texas cattleman and owner of the Quanah, Acme & Pacific Railway. The car was named for Burnett's famous Four Sixes Ranch, one of the largest cattle ranches in Texas sweeping everything west of Fort Worth to Lubbock and into southern Oklahoma, which was then still just a Territory. It was built by Pullman in 1894 and bought soon after by Burnett, who branded it the "6666". Rumor had it that Burnett won a big poker pot with a hand of four sixes, and that he adopted that brand to celebrate the win. The truth is that Burnett bought a herd of some 100 cattle from a Frank Crowley in 1871 and kept the "6666" brand which was already on the stock.
here is small living room with cable TV, radio and limited library books. The car has two bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a clawfoot tub. It has a galley with refrigerator, sink, coffee maker, and prep work area (not a cook-in kitchen). A small dining area converts into two sleeping bunks. The bedroom features a queensized high bed tastefully coordinated with the turn of the 20th century.
Guests will have use of the galley to store and prep a continental style breakfast of their choosing. We will have coffee available for you. In lieu of a provided breakfast, there will be a $25 certificate for each reservation that may be redeemed within a year at our retail store, Das Peach Haus, located at 1406 S. Highway 87, or at the Fischer & Wieser Specialty Foods, Inc. company showroom located at 411 S. Lincoln Street. This certificate can be found in the Railcar upon your arrival.
